  1. well crafting will be implemented in standalone, maybe not in the foundation release, but at least it is part of the long term plan. it will be awesome :)

    You're certainly right but I still remember when rocket was on the forums/reddit almost everyday and the mod was updated weekly, it was good times he would come by a random suggestion topic and discuss specific mechanics, was great for a dev to do that. Well I thought it would stay that way at least til beta, but now we have standalone and his attitude towards community seems to have changed for the worst. It's not the end of the world, but it's kinda sad you know. Hopefully the team will be more open and share more information with us after foundation release. Yep the PZ devteam is so open with community, but they still have angry people who are like "wtf where is RC3??" so I guess there will always be this kind of forum guys, and yet being open and sharing even the most random uninteresting fact about dev is really pleasing and make the wait less frustrating. It gives a sense of progress.

    Discussion of the standalone defecation\poo feature

    I really don't like the idea of defecating as part of the game. I find it ridiculous and laughable. I don't think I'm going to play this game if it happens. I'm all for the spread of diseases though, and why not have a vomit feature if you eat bad food or whatever, but I've got the feeling defecation will totally break the immersion (atmosphere being the #1 reason I love DayZ in the first place) EDIT : The number of poo-related posts supposedly written by 6 year old boys who find this idea amazing "omg I can shit on bandits now rofl" just confirm my feelings about all this shit.

EDIT 09/06 - New design fits in a bar that let you see a lot more your surroundings - New Loot window. - 2 new pockets that unlocks depending on your clothing (maybe bad idea) - Journal and pen - Remember tools will open new windows for interactions (working on that) EDIT 09/03 - Bloody graphics !!! - Basic toolbelt added - Contextual menu added for interaction with lootpiles/tentsvehicles/deadbodies...... *Click and drag or double click for fast looting *Interaction hotkey will allow fast pickup of item, or pressing G to bring the inventory (a la DayZ classic) - Most tools will have a submenu : * Flashlight : an interface where you can replace batteries * Toolbox : a simple crafting window * Radio : Something similare to ACRE where you can modify radio options * And more to come - Simple crafting (everything that doesn't require tools) by clicking and dragging items together anywhere in main inventory! Matches are not considered a tool anymore Next will be added pen, paper, and journal First I'd like to say that it is nothing near complete. Just a rough design with basic items placed, not many changes compared to ArmA 2 inventory because I think arma2 inventory is not that bad. - backpack and pouch panels must be open by clicking the backpack or pouch icon. - I'm not sure where to place toolbelt or if we need any at all. - Each item will have weight and take 1 or many slots, or can be stacked for things like bandages. Clothing will take 4 slots, primary weapon 8 slots, and can be dragged easily to either section. - not sure for item pickup and if we need a item list at all. It is convenient for fast looting, but maybe not the most intuitive system. - the main inventory section (think the sum of all your pockets) will depend on your vest and pants (more pockets = bigger main inventory) Tell me what you think.   5. I don't see what's the point in having more players per server. 30-50 is fine for chernarus. IMO any more than that will turn the game in a big deathmatch and make surviving impossible. The encounters with players have to be something rare because you're supposed to be a survivor of apocalypse. I hope standalone won't be like warz.
  6. Awesome man, but now you do that for every interior in the game, and the game will be unplayable on any computer. It's an open world, the machine won't only render this corridor, it has to render all the terrain and surroundings buildings, even with a very smart use of LOD I just can't see these graphical details without a huge drop in performance. (Nevertheless I still hope rocket team is going for something like that, but I doubt it will occur in the first phases of alpha. First gameplay, then cool-looking content)

    AMF3, regarding your loot loss : You haven't done anything bad on disconnect (you never lose loot if you don't die) what happened is maybe you were'nt playing on an official server first time. There are 2 types of server : Official and private. Official uses a global database that is shared between all oficial servers. Basically you"ll have only one character across all these servers. No matter how you disconnect, alt-F4 or even throw your pc through the window, your loot and position will be saved automatically. Then you"ve got multiple private hive server. If you join one of those servers, they will pick one of your last character in the official database, but everything you do there will only be saved on this unique server. It doesn't affect what happens on official or other hive servers, so just check in the server browser for an official server, or stick to one non-official hive server. Hope it's clear. Edit : If you're using DayZ commander, just tick "hide unofficial"

    suggestion for chernarus.

    1) yeah why not 2) I think it should be player made 3) I think it should be player made 4) check out the destroyed forest in shadows of namalsk, at night, with fog... man this atmosphere :) 5) too hard to code, will certainly look crappy 6) I agree add one major nuclear site with a new hazard radioactivity you would need special equipment and such (stalker fan here) 7) Yep Even if it has been proposed several times, I think those ideas are great. Adding more environmental threats is the way to go.

    DayZ Combat/Firefight guide(?)

    I've played the game for several months now and I rarely get into firefights when there's a chance to miss. Avoiding people, staying hidden in a bush while a big team of well equipped people are passing by, is sometimes even more rewarding than firing at everyone you see. So the first advice is stay invisible. Always scan your surroundings for possible enemies, know the topography of the map. Think a lot and play slow and carefully. Dieing from another player will soon become quite unlikely, and then you can start having fun killing all those ghillie bandits at airfield and such, because they will not see you til you're just behind their back :)

    The goal in Dayz should be survive, not pvp

    I don't really like the idea of skills, because I don't see how it would work in DayZ. What I'd rather see is adding more depth to the gameplay so that real life skills can be transfered in the DayZ world. For instance repairing cars could require some real life mechanic skills (Identify the broken parts by examining the vehicle). Surgery could require real medical skills to avoid an infection, or else you might do more damage to the patient. Using a weapon could require to learn how to clean it properly so it doesn't jam, etc.... All of those feature will require time to master properly, but it would be logical and obvious for people that are mechanic, surgeon, or have experience with weapons IRL. Maybe it's going a little too far on the simulation side of the game, but hey DayZ is supposed to be hardcore isn't it ?

    Agree. Having a sound processing system with realistic reverb would be really cool for immersion. Imagine hearing a gunshot in the distance and then echoing all around so you can't really tell the direction. Or your footsteps being amplified on the metal floor of a factory and becoming extremely loud... Even the zed shouting would sound much more terryfing!

    Wolves don't attack human beings IRL. In fact they are very shy animals, and they can smell human presence from 1 km away. (There are wolves in the woods next to where I live).

    Just an idea : climbing and jumping through windows. Would be amazing to escape a house full of zed by diving through a window, at the risk of breaking your leg.

    I agree. I'm not from a soviet country but the general architecture in France looks a lot like that (in small village I come from) so I understand what you mean.

    It would be cool but how much cooler if those little details were player-made? I think the work on interiors shouldn't go farther than dirtying up the textures and add some cleverly placed decals (think old magasines, random unidentified trash... etc).

    For people who wants more gore/blood IG... Why not make players body stay a lot longer in the world and slowly start to rot and decay ? Also after a gunfight or someone is hurt the blood splashes (decals) could stay a while.

    It's not about putting bloodstains everywhere but I think the textures could be made a little bit more dirty. The cloth on tables for instance, there could be some coffee stains on it, and everything could be a little bit more greyed out from not being cleaned for a while. Anyway, good job to everyone at BIS who helped creating that, DayZ is one step closer to being my ultimate dream game EDIT : no lighting looks good sorry, only problem is the TV that doesn't cast shadows like other objects, so it looks like it is floating in front of the screen ahah :)

    I say make them slightly slowler, but they shoud still be a bit faster than you, otherwise all challenge would be gone IMO.
  22. - Wild plants to "craft" medicines/poisons, in an authentic way. Having to test and recognize the different plants, some of them being deadly poison.

    DayZ map set in USA?

    I'd like to see a map of where I live in the northeast of France, some nice natural landscapes, but there are also lots of abandonned factories and some fairly big cities that look dull and grey sooo post apocalyptic lol :)

    Improved, more realistic player movement

    Impossible to achieve in dayz. We have 50 players on a single map. You should realise that. In a single player game, maybe it would be achievable, but it would be so fucking frustrating to fall everytime you hit an object I don't see any sane developer including that in their game ahah
