Nasty Little Trend, Watch Your Back..
KC607 replied to Chimaera's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's unfortunately an all too common trait among many players that play this game. I've been playing mostly solo recently and would love to bump into someone and actually help each other out. More often times than not though, people will just try to kill you As sad as it is, I've had to make my first rule of DayZ "Trust nobody" I'm not saying I'll shoot someone on-sight if I come across them, I've flanked a fair few players that I've spotted and circled around them or simply left alone, who won't have even known I was there. I just don't trust people enough to interact with them, especially not with the gear I currently have. On the other hand if someone spots me, then I'll proceed with extreme caution, tell them to keep a distance away to make entering your backpack impossible. If they get too close after I've said not to, then they die. I'd definitely say either play solo, or find a player or even a group, of people that you trust. Happy hunting. -
I've found Bizon SD, M107, M14 AIM, M4A1 CCO SD and FN FAL. That's about it. I also found 3 mags of NATO rounds, which I have zero use for, as I have never found an AS50 lol.

I've seen players with 20+ days survived...HOW?
KC607 replied to Aypoc's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Pretty much echoing the sentiments of the majority here. I have survived for quite a long time now, and have done in previous lives. I play on less populated servers (Not empty ones). Once you have a few basic supplies such as; Hatchet, Matches, Hunting Knife, Compass and a Water Bottle or two, then you can pretty much avoid towns and highly populated areas altogether. Sticking to the wooded areas and avoiding towns will keep you alive. You can fill your water bottle at lakes, and you can kill animals for food. You can also hit the numerous Deer Stands for other decent items, as I have yet to run into another player while looting a Deer Stand. -
Hi guys. This is just a quick update! Operation: DMR is finally a success lol. I hit Stary Military Tents and found nothing useful, so I carried on my way. I approached the place as tactically as I could, running from tree to tree and scanning every possible tree-line and Sniper vantage point with my Binoculars lol. A few hours later after work, I logged back in on a different server as I didn't fancy playing at night, ran all the way to Stary, searched them all again and walked away with an M9SD. Cursing my luck, I decided to hit the 3 Deer Stands North of Stary. On my way to them, I heard a strange rumbling sound and saw a player speeding towards me on a Quad Bike, with my heart in my mouth I dove into the bushes and the player drove right past me and headed South towards Stary, good thing I didn't hang about. The 1st Deer Stand was empty, so I decided to check the next one and call it a day - and low and behold, the 2nd Deer Stand had a shiny DMR laying there. There was no ammo with it, so it is just as well that I had picked up a DMR mag earlier in the week, just on the off-chance! Now all that is left is for me to be killed and someone to take it and make all my work count for nothing :D lol.

Obvious Troll is obvious.

Thanks for the helpful replies chaps! I think I'm going to try to take a little venture up to Stary as much as I'd like to avoid it. Well that is providing the artifacting doesn't screw me over as it has been doing lately lol. I think during my first day of playing this game, I ran into a very helpful player who took me to several crashed Helicopters. He found a map on a player he killed, with all 3 Heli spawns marked on it, such luck lol. I remember I found a Sniper Rifle at one of the sights. Thinking back now, I'm pretty sure it must have been the DMR. It was a while ago, but I think that's what I found. Obviously with it being my first day, I was swiftly parted from it lol. I've hit several Deer Stands over the last few days and have found a few M16's and a fair few AK's. The percentage for those dropping is considerably higher than the DMR though - Typical. I've ran into several CZ's in barns and things, maybe 3 or 4 times. I'd take one if I were to find another one until I got a better rifle, but I really didn't enjoy the chevron scope so I don't go out of my way to search for one. I'm pretty much a "keep away from the populated areas" kind of player. I don't go into towns unless it's essential as I have everything I need to survive in the wilderness, so places with high traffic like Firestations, Military Tents, NWAF etc. are really places I'd like to avoid. Especially cause I have a good few items that I'd like to keep ahold of, including Ghillie suit etc. But it looks like I might be forced to venture into these places! I'll definitely keep my eyes peeled for some downed choppers also, as I'd rather have one of the better Sniper Rifles than the DMR, but I'm just aiming for one of those as they are easier to find than say an AS50 of SVD Camo. Last chopper I looted contained a Bizon SD and an FN FAL so not too bad, but not what I was after! Lol. Also if there are any good samaritans bored, looking for something to do and willing to team up to make hitting some of the more dangerous areas a bit safer, then feel free to PM me. Safety in numbers and all that malarkey! Lol. You're welcome to any other loot we find, I'm only after a Sniper Rifle at this moment in time :) Oh I'm sorry, I thought I had it all correct! Which part did I mess up, it's bound to be something very simple that I've missed - After all it was 4:00am when I posted it ;) lol. Regards.

Thanks for the quick replies guys! All of my ventures into the NWAF have ended bandly, so I'm fairly reluctant to go there. Even more so with the amount of ALT+F4's, meaning there wouldn't be many bodies to loot lol. I agree about the Firestations, bit of a death-trap lol. I generally like to keep away from Stary for the same reason - as it's usually a bit of a hot-spot for banditry lol. But if the spawns are as many as you say, it might be worth the risk! I think I'll make that my task for the next time I'm on. Thank you, good Sir :D

Hi everyone. I'm looking to find myself a DMR to complete my basic gear setup, as I really don't like the Scope on the CZ550, and the other Sniper Rifles are going to be much harder to come by. Using the DayZDB, it states that Deer Stands have a 0.19% chance of spawning the DMR, as well as all other Low-value Military Spawns. I'm trying to weigh-up whether or not it's worth continuing to hit these Deer Stands up and down the map, cause I've tried for a few days now and not found one. Looking at a few other possible spawns, like the Firestations, I can see that they have a much better chance of having one. It's the same 0.19% chance, but there are 10 loot spawns inside as opposed to the 2 loot spawns inside a Deer Stand. So that would be 10 x 0.19% = 1.9% which is clearly better. Then factor in that there is only a 30% chance of loot spawning so 30% of 1.9% = 0.57% 0.19% vs. 0.57% So what I'm asking basically is, do you think the slightly higher chance of finding the weapon in a Firestation or NWAF makes it worth while, or should I continue to search the far less popular, and infinitely safer Deer Stands? Cause generally Firestations and NWAF = Death from a Ghillie'd Sniper! (Getting killed with the very weapon I'm searching for would be such irony) lol. Or if anyone else can suggest a better place to search for this weapon, that would be appreciated. I don't like to kill unless I fear for my own safety, so that might not be an option. Also I'd like to point out that if I have mis-read any information, or my math / understanding of the % values is not entirely correct, then go easy ;) Thanks everyone.

Care to elaborate?

I agree with this too. Definitely one of the worst - if not the worst - communities I've ever been a part of. In all the time I've been playing this game, the number of friendly people I've run into, is a lowly 2 players. Between the script-kiddies / hackers, the 'shoot-on-sight whether you're armed or not' players, the geared-up Snipers who sit and camp Elektro and Cherno to snipe new players AND the Alt+F4'ers, this community really is terrible. In the last session of about 3 hours, I killed one guy who shot at me, who then Alt+F4'd. I got sniped at the NWAF while trying to find some half-decent loot, then I spawned in again, ran to Cherno to grab food and drink from the Supermarket so I could head North again and was sniped by a guy sitting on the hill. Freshly spawned and unarmed. The only shining light for this community is the very few players who will actually help you and maybe team-up for an hour or two. It's hard enough finding someone that won't shoot you on sight, let alone someone who will actually be friendly lol. Come on people, there must be more of you out there...

I've heard people talk about Bandits / players "shoot-on-sight" mentality ruining this mod. But it's this kind of thing that is really ruining it for me and probably everyone else. Can't wait until something is done to make this a less frequent occurance. Sorry about your stuff, that had to hurt
-
I tend to agree with this gentleman. In the last 2 nights I have had 3 instances with hackers; 1 insta-death for the whole server, 1 finally arriving at NWAF just to be teleported back to Cherno along with every other play on the server, and another where one of our party members was randomly teleported away from our group, into a cirle of barbed wire to prevent escape and then sniped lol. This kind of thing really makes it hard to justify spending the time it takes to gear-up and make it to the north of the map. All that effort just for any of the above to happen again? I can see why people are reluctant.

Personally I like the AKM.
