  1. This ISN'T cod, but it IS arma, which... you know is also a shooter game. So it being a mod based on arma in alpha, yes there may be crap that drives you insane. stuff that isn't meant to be a certain way. So stop playing if you want, but you'll be missing out, and I think you know you will be.
  2. When you've player 117 hours of Dayz in a week and a half...
  3. I like how you were non offensive and smart about the way you laid out your opinion. Let me give my two cents on each of these though because I will have to respectfully disagree with your opinion. "However, as much as we want to just shoot people, we must admit that the penalty for death for a player who has worked carefully at establishing gear or attempting a goal such as repairing a vehicle or setting up a nice camp is much higher than that for a spawn-and-sprint bandit, whose entertainment comes for free, whose attack is generally unexpected, and whose lifespan is quite often extremely short." And bandits don't have these goals either? I am a bandit, and yes I will sometimes hunt players down for joy, even ones without gear.. need to instill fear and makesure my name and the name of my comrades on our server are known. BUT, we still do non bandit things, if we heist someone on a road and they actually listen to us and go prone look at the sky and let us rob him... we usually only take some food and water and maybe ammo. If he has a good gun, sometimes he might keep it if hes not being threatening. The point I am getting at is us "bandit skinned" players do things to survive... we just do it differently. I find shooting those that look like threats, and mercilessly killing on occasion actually provides me better chance of survival then not. This game is about survival. Who can survive the longest. CO-OP was always an option, and a risky one. Beware, there are bandits whose lifespan is long and who hunt, not with maks, but with CZ's, M14's, and hand grenades. "So, what if we just leave it the way that it is? You can only build a sandcastle to have it pointlessly kicked apart so many times before you tire of building sandcastles. Read the forums. People are tired of the "Call of Duty" factor." I am at 107 hours. I have had my "sand castle" kicked many times... It's something you get used to. It is in fact the point of the game for everything to be dangerous and NOT for the average player to be able to last for days on one character. Rocket has even said in an interview he enjoys games that frustrate him so much he wants to throw things. He is basically making the game that HE has always wanted to play and it was by awesome chance that many people also enjoy the same things as him. The threat of bandits is one of the best, because bandits don't have AI's like zombies... they are intelligent free thinkers.. making them the most dangerous thing.. at the same time, a survivor is the most dangerous thing to a bandit. You forget the bandits side of the story. "1) Bandits spawn farther away from Elektro/Cherno, so that they must travel a longer time to return and put their free Makarov against other players again." NO NO NO. Elektro and Cherno are larger cities, and as in a real apocalypse where cities would be more dangerous it should make sense more so in this game. I do not like the "realism" idea of survivors easily running around Elektro and Cherno getting gear whist bandits our punished just for favoring a different gameplay style. If you want to avoid the free mak bandits, LEAVE THE COAST. go in land away from civilization. "2) Rewarding long term, healthy, active survival (you ate a lot of food, killed a lot of zombies, started some fires, bandaged some players) by giving random starting gear bonuses (extra beans, magazines, box of matches?) This could also be judged with an achievement system." Uh, lol, only if you reward good bandits with a free m4 for the same reasons. Achievements are cool, i kinda want them since this game is about "who can _____ the most/longest" but rewards. NO. this game is meant to throw everyone into a dangerous world with little advantages and see where they go from there. 3) Give people a couple of free murders per day, but afterwards start spawning them farther and farther away. "the same response for 1) goes for this "4) Reward group-play by allowing survivors to keep a non-weapon item or two on respawn, to represent that this person has formed connections with people and through cooperation has gained for himself. Working to be able to spawn with a survival knife and compass, for instance, could be a good way to show that the player relies on self sufficiency rather than stealing, and is thus rewarded." Then you would also have to reward non-group play. this is the anti-game about an apocalypse which is anarchy. No rules. The sweat of your own brow gets you stuff. and the bullet of someone steals it. "5) Zombies could have a slight taste preference for bandits, so that in a situation where two people are in LOS for an angry zombie, it chooses the more murderous of the two more often." Zombies don't think this hard. "Now, if you think these are all care-bear ideas, I'd like to remind you to actually consider the results of what some of these would accomplish. Like-minded players spawning closer together... and also keeping more people in the game and avoiding some player-induced rage-quit... ultimately secures the violence-minded bandit more targets." This would attempt to destroy what bandits are about... being a bandit isn't just about the pvp and enjoying guns.. we'd play normal arma 2 for that. The idea of a bandit is to BE a bandit. If anything I would like to take away the punishments for being a bandit aka what rocket is doing, taking away bandit and survivor skins.

    Low FPS since patch.

In the process of upgrading my computer to a top of the line machine.. i chose to get the video card first and as such I am stuck with a core 2 duo E8400. I understand this game is CPU heavy but i usually get at least 35-45 FPS in the woods with around 20-25 in chern sometimes dipping to 18...... this was pre patch. Now I am getting like 15-20 in the woods and 8 in chern, i turned my graphics even lower than they were to the lowest setting possible on everything and it may help my fps by like 1 maybe 2. Also I am not sure if it is the sunrise, but playing on the sunrise today, every 5 minutes id get a 20 second spike of 1 FPS. 1! Anyways whining done tears are spent. Just curious if this is only me or if this is patch related, talked to some guys in a server that say it is patch related.
  6. "I can imagine this would be the same for anyone in the game, regardless of affiliation. Survivors are not able to go out and look for supplies, food and water, bandits are not able to lie in ambush or go prowling for targets. we were literally hit by a huge upraised hand that said 'STOP PLAYING' and simply sat around and talked as we waited by the campfire." This best explains how I feel about temp. Temperature sounds cool, but when in it's current implementation it takes away from the rest of the game. The great thing about the other threats before such as zeds, food, thirst, bandits, having enough supplies.... was that they kept you on the move. They nurtured the exploration part of gameplay.... with the new temperature all I want to do is sit inside a building all day and if I do wish to travel I am forced to spend an incredible amount of time stopping in buildings on the way to my destination or grabbing firewood. If it's raining, I just don't travel at all because fires don't help. I think most people can agree with me when I say I want to play Dayz the post infection zombie apocalypse game. This Game just went from The Hunger Games with zombies to The Day after tomorrow hide inside for warmth. You said yourself that Arma 2 was great because of the map of Chernarus. Why are you spitting on this crown jewel of a map by not going against all your talk about how in the normal arma missions people don't really get to take in the beauty of it by now doing the exact same thing as the arma missions and limiting us in certain areas because we will die outside.... Last night i literally saw 30 bodies before the first other survivor... 30 bodies all died because of the side effects of temp. This patch is akin to going to a paintball match and saying "ok, while all you guys fight each other, i'll be in this tall tower just sniping you all randomly unless you stay inside buildings and btw you cant stop me.
  7. My input is this. The idea sounds cool, but in its current implementation I think it takes away from current gameplay. Game right now causes me to spend half my time worrying about staying warm rather than the other features in the game. I understand this is a survival game, but right now it seems more like the day after tomorrow everytime I go outside and this kind of takes away from much of the other things in the game. By worrying about a cough, you now are more annoyed than you are stressed. Also the difficulty of finding antibiotics and items for fires really keeps people indoors which stops travel... Travel is one of the best parts of this game. Being able to explore Chernarus and the many locations I feel is the more intriguing part of depth in this game. The fact that Arma has given us a grand scale and high detail map is a blessing. With the risk of cold in the game, I now server hop to avoid rain like I do the night. (i still love playing night, but not for hours on end as I get on at nights mostly) I understand this is an experiment and an alpha and we are the testers. Well as a tester this is my feedback. - The current implementation of temp. as I said before is not working. - This is a thread about temp but I think i'll throw in the night cycle too.... night as it was before was alright since servers offered choice and night was still fun... but now with night, lighting fires every 10 minutes is not feasible....... If time is a 1:1 ratio shouldn't infection be also to combat the fires and cold at night? How would this maybe work?? I would say this, maybe there is a certain body temperature, and this temperature drops at night and in rain ect like it does now, BUTTT. Maybe you can increase it by eating food! (who cares about plausibility since food restores blood rather than water). Either that or the lower your temperature you just shake, but not really infection... or infection causes cought that makes you shake, but not bleed... ALSO, maybe running makes you stop losing temp(maybe not heat but at least stop temp drop). This would allow travel to still be ok, but staying immobile in the cold to scope things out, or wait on things would be bad in the cold thus stops take place in towns (forcing some fun confrontations) Of course sunshine is fine so no problem during sunshine. What are your two cents. My ideas for temp might be odd and I even don't like them, but just thought i'd throw in some ideas if I am to bag on rockets temp idea. Honestly I LOVE your mod, your vision is amazing, I started exactly 1 week ago and have played with 7 friends for 97 hours.... we all love it... we stopped because of temp. Really tempted to role back to 1.5.7 but still stay 1.5.8.2 just because i understand where your coming from and maybe you need more data or w/e.

    Long term survival is pointless

I have to respectfully disagree with your assumption that long term survival is pointless. I play with a group of 9 friends, usually only about 3-4 are on at a time. But I must say that being lone does NOT make it harder to survive. It is just different. Let me outline some differences. Group Pros - More bullets downrange - More threatening to would be survivors - Able to carry more items and of a larger variety - Travel is safer - Spotting is easier - Someone can shoot while you run Group Cons - Friendly fire if unorganized (it happens even to us organized) - If your dead, your out of the group till you meet up again, this can skew your travel paths as usually you try and make a B-Line back to allies. - Easier to spot when traveling. - Looting and travel is slower Lone Pros - Travel is more subtle - Travel is faster - Looting is faster - No friendly fire, everyone can safely be assumed dangerous - Travel where you want. Lone Cons - No one is gona keep people and zeds off while you bandage/no one shoots while you run - Less items and smaller variety. - Less bullets downrange - Less of a threat to grouped survivors or bandits In the end they both of have pros and cons, BUT the BIG pro of the Lone survivor is the "travel where you want" and "more subtle" These 2 things will keep you alive much longer than groups. One of our guys is going on 20 hours right now with just a winchester (keep trying to convince him to use at least a different shotgun, but he loves that thing). The two things keeping him alive are those 2 main pros. I actually don't think hes killed a survivor on his current life. The rest of us however may get high end rifles and guns within an hour and be grouped up then proceed to hunt in the north usually only last 4-5 hours. Our main downfall is actually other equal sized groups as well as ambushers who hit us when we aggro zeds. See, with a bigger group, its harder to keep track of who is who, so the guy with the same gun as your pal who you think is shooting a zed on you, really is an ambusher taking advantage of the situation. This is a simple reason why I would not at all doubt a single survivor... hell I sniped 2 groups of 3 survivors myself today (had allies with me, but they didn't fire). So if I can, you can to. Tips for lone survivor. - Silenced weapon.... but most likely this is 5 hours out so. - CZ and mak, and be smart. I am hitting 100 hours on Dayz here pretty soon and will be writing an in depth post of my stories, guides, tactics, and tips for what I have learned in 100 hours, look out for it. It's sure to be a best seller =_)
