  1. I've played alot sooo... alot. 250 hours has found me. (well 1/3 of that is on Taji life but anywho) 3x M24 3x M4 SD 10xish M4 CCO MK48 2x Bizon SD M249 3x DMR FN FAL AN/PVS FN FAL normal 30-40+ CZs 3x NVGs Pretty much a Cyote Pack or Alice each life hundreds and hundreds or AK's and M's of all types. 3x Mp5 SD 8 or 9 M14 aims i believe Much of the good stuff is recent though as I am finding the servers with working vehicle and helo spawns. the 3 DMR's have all been since the Monday I believe and so has the Mk48 249 and FN FAL's bizons ect all the helo spawns. BTW if anyone has a 249 or 240, I am willing to trade my DMR or FN FAL PVS for it. I am normally a bandit, but for the sake of this trade I am completely trustworthy. I promise. We can be in same skype, you can bring friends ect ect. We will trade in a way I have devised that protects both you and I.

  3. - Preface - A lot of these ideas come from other forum posts but have my little flavor in them. Some come from other games or even other mods of THIS game. Some are out of my head. I take no credit for any ideas that may have originated from others. I just want to provide great ideas that I might be able to one day enjoy. Sorry for my bad typing. I just want to get the ideas out as they are in my head now rather than spend forever as a grammar nazi. - Trading Posts - //The Posts The ability for players to create a "trading post". What this would entail would be players having to gather a supplies and find the right "survival tools ei. toolbox ect." to be able to build prefrab buildings such as you can in the normal Arma 2 missions. Once specific groups of buildings are build AIs would flock to these buildings (like in terarria). These AIs would all have different options. AI ideas - General Tradesman - sells beans and food stuffs and flares ect. - Scraper - sells stuff to fix cars and most tools - Arms - guns and ammo - Doctor - medical supplies. maybe he can also blood transfuse you (if you got a blood bag in your inv) - Villager (can be given "jobs") These NPCS would once every hour cycle some items sellable to keep things fresh. Also they could sell things that have been sold to them. SELL YOU SAY? is this currency or trading. Well lets cover this later. For now just concept. Let's talk the villager. Maybe the villager would be able to be given certain "jobs". For example you might be able to give a villager guard duty. After he is turned guard maybe he can then be scroll wheeled and given your main slot weapon. This way you can arm guards vs bandit snipers. The key here is that guards only fire when fires upon first by players but shoot zeds on sight. Bandit snipers are still my biggest worry for AI type settlements but that may be able to be adjusted with type of buildings made (make walls?) how many real players are near there and how many guards (ie. 5 cz guards, one dies, other 4 engage). Also we must remember we DO have to allow trading posts to be killable, we don't want them 100% bandit proof or else you would eventually have TONS of these everywhere. Another thing we might be able to turn a villager into is a farmer or cattle herder. Maybe the same way the game tells if your in a "forest area" we can set Locations on the farmland (i'm not sure how editing works but if its like the SC2 engine where you set locations for triggers) so that the farmland can be used. Farmers would be able to tend the crops and bring back produce to a location where it can be grabbed. Cattle herders would wander around a fully fenced off area and cattle would spawn every few minutes or so as long as there was food available for them in the storage area. Players themselves could go grab the corn or whatever and eat it or take it with them but that would only heal the 200, waiting a longer time for cattle to eat those corns and grow allow them to be killed for the precious 800 blood steaks. Now what about the persistence difficulty of the post other than guards? Would the npcs just stay there and everything keeps growing or maybe do they have to EAT? maybe there is a main warehouse that they will go to grab food from and eat and if they get to "starving" they just walk off and despawn. This means that players (or other npcs) have to keep the warehouse building stocked. This also means that players have to kinda work together and set rules on how much you can take ect. so someone doesn't rob the thing blind. Also maybe the NPCS and amount of NPCS will vary based on how big the town is? Maybe you have to gather certain ammounts of supplies to "UPGRADE" the townhall to the next level which gets more npcs PLUS upgrades the item cycling and type of items of current NPCS. Mind you this is a shanty town, not full fledged city. As for more ideas on npcs and buildings in this prefrab town, there are many, I just wanted the basic concept for town down. what are some of YOUR ideas for this?? //The bandits and the Sheriffs SO BANDITS. The big elephant in the corner. I'll get straight to the point. Say someone starts killing a ton of people and you want them dead right? Maybe the game will have the ability to have a "BOUNTY" boards in prefrab towns (or normal, i'll enter about this in a sec) that show the names of certain players (are these players selected by the game itself where players with 5 plus life kills are thrown? is it humanity based? you decide? or my suggestion?) are selected by players so have a bounty on their head. The player setting the bounty would deposit some items in an untouchable storage slot which then sit until the player with the bounty is killed. Maybe these boards sync with main server so you can be on a board on any server and it would just cross reference the global bounties with those on your server to only show those on your server. This way that player can't escape justice anywhere. To post a bounty you can't have negative humanity ALSO to TAKE a bounty you can't have negative humanity either. This would start pushing some players who want rewards (set by other players and not the game mind you) to try and be good decent players and hunt down the bads. I always thought that people wanting to "PUNISH" bandits was dumb. You punish people they get angry. You reward people they get happy. Reward those who do right and just leave those who do wrong alone. I myself will probably keep being a bandit because the joy of ending lives is fun enough. Anddddd I will be hunted. Oh and add tracking options and dogs =). soooo //Tracking I personally thing that lately on even full servers there have not been enough player interactions. Everyone is now exploring the north the north east the west the south the east, everywhere. People are leaving the coast, BUT people avoid each other like the plague. If we add the 2 suggestions above maybe we will have people work together again, BUTTT, what about finding others for the purpose of killing.. whether its hunting bandits or hunting survivors? TRACKING. first off, add dogs. and do it how you want rocket. Other than that here is an idea. Maybe say each time you eat food drink a soda ect you character will actually leave (i hope this doesnt hurt the servers or players client side on data and lagging people) small little pieces of their meal on the ground or a used soda can. When someone comes by, they might be able to (for 20minutes or so until the stuff disapears) scroll click it to see how long ago the meal was consumed. Also when you study bodies maybe it shows how LONG ago they were killed. Another idea is maybe every 500 meters of walking you guys leaves a footprint which can be scroll wheeled. you can then see how long ago someone was there through scroll wheel. to stop server from getting bogged, maybe prints last 1 hour max and also if you pay attention maybe you can scroll wheel cover your foot prints. would make traveling more annoying so you wouldnt ALWAYS do it, but while being traveled maybe you would. HERE IS what dogs would do. They would have the ability to be scroll wheeled and show options of all the "trackable" spots within 100m or whatever distance. As you "TRAIN" you dog more maybe they can eventually actually TAKE you to those points. and once you get max dog training maybe they can actually "TRACK" specific players. To track specific players maybe your dog first has to find 10 track spots created by that player through foot prints or food. Maybe every 15th bullet drops a trackable casing too? //Current Towns and Taking them over Using this guys power grid ideas http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=6791&highlight=power+grid be able to power towns using this would rock. Once towns are "powered" maybe the lights turn on and the next step would be clearing all the zeds out. Once all the zeds are cleared they would stop spawning in that town as long as the power grid was up. Loot would of course stop spawning BUT you would now enter a scenario similar to prefrab towns. NPCS would move in. The difference between these towns and shanty towns are one main things. A) for example if you take over chern a HUGE town, chern would immedietly start offering benefits of a shanty town that size... which pretty much would NEVER happen. so chern would be an ultimate prize for coop players. Also they would provide lights too. Also maybe NPCS only available in certain towns and (heres the awesome) maybe certain towns offer town specific benefits. For example maybe chern will offer a hospital that will offer better benefits than a doctor in other towns... say maybe free medical help or blood transfusions without you having a blood bag (maybe you get a limit per time on how many). ect ect. Maybe if two towns are taken over along a railroad you can scroll wheel at a rail station and teleport to the next town? Also maybe alot of these coastal towns can have villagers become FISHERMen since they are not near food sources. This way they can fish to keep the town alive. Anywho just some fun ideas. //So now more ways to persist, what about stuff to do? -Wandering zombie hordes. I know zeds are client side when your near things, but maybe if it doesnt lag server too much? or a client side way to do this? but wandering hordes of like 50 zeds. Maybe they usually have 1 or 2 REALLY good loot items so sometimes people might actually want to engage them. -Bears. Sounds dumb but rlly... BEARS. and maybe wolf packs. -Wandering bandit gang NPCS -Slightly rare bandit gangs that hold areas in towns and spawn in the place of zeds? set script so if a bandit gang spawns all zed wont spawn within 200 so that way it isnt a 3 way fight. -C130 crashes? the same way helo crashes have uber gun loot c130 crashes have uber vehicle loot? not MBT's persay but maybe Hummers with mounted guns that can be fixed? Also SOME mil spawn weapons (id say keep the ubers to helos though). -at spawn on server have a "TREASURE STASH" of loot spawn that will only respawn on server restart or a few hours after its looted. This treasure stash is hidden in one of 100 random spawn areas for it and with it will spawn maybe only 5 maps findable in cities that will mark on a map(oif you own one) the APROXX 500m location of the stash //Radios. If you find a radio you can side chat. if not you can only direct. you turn your radio off and it mutes side chat. //Currency Ok I am not sure how I feel about this myself. But maybe some currency. YOu can ONLY get this currency by selling items to a specific trader in towns. This trader only regenerates currency over over time so he can only buy so many items until he runs out of currency. To make sure that PLAYERS set item values, maybe each gun is worth the same in HIS eyes. Once you get this currency, you are able to buy services and products from other NPCS. IF you dont have currency to buy a product you have to "put up for trade" certain items that have a value to that NPCS (all guns same) and trade him twice the value of the service to get the service or item. To make sure that this REALLY is a post apocalyptic world, make sure the value of services is high enough that you without currency you really DO have to give up a bundle get a service or product. Also maybe spawning off zeds (so you'll want to kill zeds) everyonce in a while are VOUCHER coins that can be traded for a free service (heal, train ride or free item) Anywho what are YOUR ideas to build upon these? please add.

    Melee Weapon Petition

    After playing other Arma 2 Mods and seeing how easily they have applied melee, i don't see why Dayz doesnt have it. Hell you can even just throw in melee weapon models give them animations like the zeds, then just for the coding make it a weapon script with 2m range or something.
  5. Same, I had just been scouring around the north for helos. Got an MK48, and M4 SD with 10 mags, and then I throw on this camo suit i find, go to switch to my "home" server to run to my tent base for depositing and woot im in ocean >.< I'll just go get my stuff again, but how hard is it for me to be reset back a little to when i had that stuff and WASNT in ocean?

    wow you guys are being dicks to him. He has a point. it IS annoying to drop so little and die... I myself have only ever had this happen to me once and it was climbing a ladder with a mak, but that is fixed now. stop trying to justify something stupid by calling him a whiner. Yes you can avoid it, but it is more annoying than "adds to the game". Point in case is when we get our group of 7 together every couple hours one of us will get mauled by a game glitch. Kinda sucks cuz he has to run all the way back to us.

    My Rant: Why I am Done with the Game.

    lol.. another person wanting a dev to put rules in a sandbox game. Dev's that police how you play the game are shit. Dev's are suppose to police exploiting and glitches and hacking ect. HOW you play is left to the server. WHy don't you find a roleplay server... or make one?

    I have always been a follower of the school of thought that the developer creates the world and games, but the players choose their rules. What I mean by this for example is the developer will create a game and maybe there are many different ways to play it. Maybe some players dislike playing with players that play a different way. What happens all to often though is that the developer will start enforcing rules rather than leaving rules to be enforced by the players. The genre that has always decently handled this with many titles are FPS's. Due to their nature of connecting to dedicated servers where you can have an admin police those who do not play by the agreed upon rules of the server. Some examples are pistol and grenades only in BC2. Or zombies in CSS. Or for non FPS titles RP games in SC or WC. I understand that because of the persistence that does not exist in many of these games, Rocket must police somethings such as not allowing admins to abuse their power for an ingame advantage... BUT what I wouldn't mind seeing is players who do not enjoy pvp should find someone willing to run a non pvp server. OR on another viewpoint, those who enjoy pvp, but dislike the rampant murdering and "run straight for chern with a mak" gameplay can join a server that maybe has "rules of engagement" Maybe a server which forces those who wish to shoot on sight to announce it when entering the server... or maybe you must announce it to your victim..... I know these rules sound silly... but i'm just trying to give ideas... if it was up to me, PURE PVP kill anything that moves and stop crying. Eitherway, I do know, Rocket, you will probably have some plan, but please do not take away this great freedom by slowly adding small rules here and there until they stack up... If you want a good example of what happens.. think American law now... Rules slowly stacked up because of complainers until we have a huge burden of rules that condemn you for almost anything. Give me Liberty or give me another game!

  15. Why is there no point? Just because there is persistence doesn't make this an MMO. It is a sandbox game.. Why does it need end game? The idea is just to live as long a possible or find fun stuff to do. He keeps adding more stuff and plans to for a long time. Once arma 3 comes out, you will have most all enterable buildings and more goodies. Give rocket some time. He made a mod.. showed some guys.. and a few weeks later everyone in the world is playing it and expecting him to give everyone what THEY want. He made the mod cuz it sounded fun... and it has been fun. I have always hated the stupid progress through a series of stages getting slightly more difficult style of games. I enjoy the sandbox which lets me decide what to do. Who cares about end game. Go play a real MMO. FPS's don't need end game.
  16. The mod is in alpha... Alpha - Adding and removing features... basically designing the features to be implemented for the game. Beta - Fix the bugs. There is no end game because this mod is only a couple months old... a MOD, and let alone one that does not have a full development team behind it. So it will take a while. Rocket did not expect that thousands of players would start playing and immedietly expect results from him. As far as I can see though this is a sandbox game. This basically entails not really have an early mid or end game. It is just an open world with stuff in it... you make your own story. The main goal of this game seems to be survive as long as possible.. Luckily there are things that keep you moving so try that first. Also where are you? I want to shoot you for your NVG's. For cooperating, find RL friends, frequent servers and make friends that others can vouch for, or join a clan.
  17. Whats wrong with shoot on sight? i have 8 friends that play this game. I don't need to team with people I am not sure I can trust.
  18. Loot already deletes in a small radius of spawn point... people just run 300 meters out of balota to hop.
  19. What I have found, and this is not only in games but in real life also, is that anytime you force a person to do something it stops becoming fun. There are many games that have done this and I really don't play them anymore. What we have here is a real sandbox game. As such you allow the players to create their own community and story and their own rules. All the dev provides us is the world we are in. Let's think about some things logically before we approach this "compromise" situation. - Dayz without PVP would not be a full experience. (think about it, would it be? you would just climb a roof shoot a lee and pop all the zeds in the head as they come. I love the zombie system in this game but it is not built like L4D for pure Player vs Zombie co-op only. There is survival, but really with only zeds threatening you even on expert servers with the amount of zeds in the 1.5.7 patch it was still super easy to be a zed killing machine) - Dayz the with the bandit survivor skins = bandits shot on sight by survivors and other bandits (self explanatory. people know you've killed not only bandits but pure innocents) - Dayz with the new patch where people can no longer turn bandits still has survivors shooting survivors (no one is to be trusted. no matter how much you like someone, if they have an allice or an AKM, your head shotting them the first chance you get because you want it.) What can be concluded from the above are 2 things. 1) dayz NEEDS players killing other players. It adds that extra tension and paranoia that can't be provided by strolling brainzed AI's. 2) Players don't trust anything they are not currently on skype/TS with. So what do we do? Here is how my father raised me for 21 to deal with situations like this (make fun of me if you want... i'll just kill your dad). You do not punish people who do wrong, rather you reward those who do right and provide a lack of a reward to those who don't. There is one grand example of this in the game so far though it is far from being able to provide this building block for cooperative play right now... Blood Bags. A blood bag forces one to use his social skills (which believe it or not are an important skill in an anarchaic zombie apocalypse.) to communicate with another player to use it properly. The problem is there is no reward for the other player. I do not believe even when humanity was part of the game was there a humanity boost. I do not want to talk about how to change the blood bag system, I just wanted to bring to attention it's impact on the game currently as we explore other ways to facilitate coop survival. What I think would work partially is the new skins coupled with bringing humanity back. Maybe you find skins in the world BUT they have limitations to be worn that must be met. Also bonus's of wearing them might be cool Some examples are.. - Must have X amount positive humanity. (x amount overall to unlock and x amount in life to use) This way you KNOW these players are trust worthy because to shoot an innocent would mean they have a chance to lose the right to wear their "sherrif" skin. This would provide the inherent ability of trust. Maybe also if you scroll over a player you can see if they recently murdered someone or shot bandits ECT. - Must have X amount negative humanity. (same as above to unlock and use) YOU KNOW TO SHOOT ON SITE OR EVEN HUNT NO MATTER WHAT. Maybe the advantage is just social? your a badass among your friends or bandits. OR another idea is better camo. (though on servers with nametags this would be hard..) something that does not give an outrageous advantage but keeps baddies wearing them. Maybe you can tell who the Sherrifs on the server are and what their names are(not locations though) - Must have X amount of blood transfusions to others (x amount overall to unlock) (maybe in a single life or over within a certain amount of recent time let's not look at HOW now, rather lets look at the idea) You would be able to tell those who are Medics or provide care to others (DR. MD Wasteland for example... very good guy, look him up) Maybe provides you with faster use of medical supplies so that using bandages, morphine, and bloodbags are instant like painkillers. - Must have survived X amount of time on life(i would say rather than X amount overall, you have to have a single character that has survived past 15 hours or something big to unlock) (maybe provides you with an increased resistance to hunger thirst and temp) - Must have looted X amount of items (loot x amount on one character to unlock) (maybe makes you less seen by zeds lowering the eyeball by 1 bar so that you can keep up your looting spree) - Must have hunted X amount of animals on one char to unlock. After this maybe you have to ability to track animals. Maybe you can scroll wheel and choose track then it shows how many within 300m (or whatever is fair) distance from you. - Must have traveled X amount in one life to unlock. Either a 10% speed increase or something that won't give unfair advantage in combat, but save travel time slightly. - X amount of time at night survived on one char.... yes we know people server hop to day, so reward those who play the HARDCORE dayz. Maybe the advantage is you are able to travel more quitely at night lowering sound by 1 at night. (maybe 2 or 1 on sound and sight since this is a night only thing) - X amount of zed kills on one life. cool ass zed killing skin, that maybe once every 60 (or whatever is fair time) minutes can negate the first bad effect a zed does by hitting you.. IE broken legs, bleeding, unconcious ect... -X amount of bandits killed in one life. Cool ass bounty hunter skin that provides you with greatly increased humanity when killing bandits. - X amount survivors killed in one life. Cool ass murderer skin that negates humanity increase while worn. Also maybe some skins that must be "found" as rare spawns such as. - Ghilli skin. You move faster while prone. - Camo paint skin. 1 less sight - Radiation skin (or something cooler sounding) you slowly (and i mean slowly) regen health over time. - Jacket skin. You have GREAT resistence to temp - Mechanic skin. You do not need toolbox to do things that require one. - Woodsman. You do not need compass to tell direction. - Cartographer. You can instantly tell the location you are at (like the words that appear at the bottom right when you spawn) Also you do not need GPS to tell where you are on map. - Swat Uniform. Slower movement by 10% but you take 10% less damage (or whatever amounts are fair... does not need to be proportional amounts. - Scout uniform. Faster movement (faster than the one for distance traveled) but you take increased damage. - Swimmers suit. You don't lose stuff when swimming, you also swim with greatly increased speed. - Hiker. You can somehow open another bag with 6 (or whatever is fair) extra slots. - Wildman. You can leave a mark on the ground (pile of stones?) or a mark on a tree and anyone who scroll wheels next to it has an option to set it as a waypoint in 3d spot.. like in arma 2 where you have a waypoint and it shows distance away from it. This stays for you and all others players through respawns as long as you are on that server and you have not died. These are just some ideas. What do you guys think? I believe that some of these skins would provide incentive for people to play as a team. For example those who wanted to survive together would wear certain skins. Maybe even also instead of unlocking the skin for your account, you must ALSO have a requirement to wear it on your current life. So for example say you unlock the bandits killed skin at 30 bandits on one life. To wear it on any other life, you still need 5 bandits killed. Or say on the Positive humanity, you need to reach 25,000 humanity on one life, but to wear it on any other life you need to still be above 10,000 humanity. These skins would also add some extra fun persitence that isn't game breaking (since you have to reach a certain point in your certain life to equip.. also with the exception of the speed boost ones, none help in combat too much. and even the speed boost ones are minor or even with deficits). Also you would be able to tell fresh spawns or apart from longer living characters and thus be able to sort of determine what risks the person is willing to take when you start to interact with them. Also the advantages provided by "evil" skins keeps people wearing them while still protecting the innocents. To stop people from skin switching on the fly, maybe put a cooldown of a few hours on skin switches.
  20. Military. I would go this order for pvp. From my experience of 130+ hours in 10 days. I personally prefer the M14 (if i can find it) then the M4 CCO/CZ depending on my mood. But ignore what i prefer and read the chart for what actually works. Long Range 300+ meters -Snipers -m14 -AKM -M's -AK's -LEE -Slugged Mil Shotguns -Winny -MP's -HANDGUNS -pellet mil shotguns -mak Medium Range 100-300 meters -SNIPERS -M14 -AKM -M's -AK's -Lee -Slugged Mil Shotguns -MP -Winny slugs -Hanguns -pellet mil shotguns -mak Short 50-100 Meters -M14 -AKM -M's -AK's -MP -Slug Mil Shotguns -LEE (CZ here if it is a server with reticle) -Winny -Pellet Mil shotguns -handguns -mak CQB - 0-50 meters -Hand grenade (let's say multikills on peeps in balota is not uncommon) -AKM -M's -AK's -Mil shotguns of any kind -MP's -winny -Handguns -LEE(CZ if reticle server) -Mak -CZ Also best thing to do to get guns is join a night server(you may not be able to see well, but pick one with the moon) then go to balota and check the deer stands by tents and the tower and hangers. Run 300 meters out of town then server hop (make sure not to cheat by server hopping if your getting attacked... its gay. dont do it). Once you get good guns go to north Chern you will see a hospital by 5 apartment buildings. Grab food and packs here and bloodbags ect. At this point you can either group with your friends or make some for fun, or you can pvp on the coast (i would suggest attacking from hills) or you can explore the lands ect. If you want better gear, hit up stary sabor and NW airfield, ORRR for a slightly safer but longer travel hit berizino mil tents and NE airfield. Less loot and longer travel, but slightly player safer. Keep in mind you don't always have to shoot players. Throwing smokes near them (white and blank smokes don't work) or throwing grenades also are good plans.

    Just replay your dude, you can have max gear in 1-2 hours dependent upon the server you join and what bugs and spawns you encounter.
