Do bandits really exist on DayZ Standalone?

Killed a few highway bandits the other day. Genuine bandits, though they weren't too smart.

Overall opinions on the SA so far?

They can make the models and textures though. There's no reason they can't push those items to their repo and let em sit until the other teams need em. So's everything else in DayZ.

Except for any of the other rifles. Like more guns!

    solution for server-hopping !

What we're going to get with respawning loot is probably going to be the same as the mod, or even more simplistic. Instead of server hoppers, it'll be loot cyclers.

Overall opinions on the SA so far?

Opinion is low. Rocket is a weak figurehead for development and always has been. Claiming a new product is a flawed concept and then announcing his upcoming departure is no way to build a sense of trust with his community or a sense of confidence in the development. Imagine buying a Tesla only to hear Elon Musk call the Tesla a flawed vehicle and that he's going to be leaving Tesla Motors to someone else.Development is slow like the mod and, what's worse, infrequent. 0.42 took over a month to release. Sure they might have had problems, but you can release small content patches independent of mechanics patches unless they're passing around the files on a USB.Player CCU spiked with the new update, but it's almost back down to where it was (28k CCU). We'll see how the weekend goes, but it probably won't break past 35k. The pattern that's emerging is that there's an update, a spike, and then it returns very quickly to pre-patch levels and then continues to drop.Development seems to focus on the wrong things in the wrong order. Rocket is currently working on hunting, apparently. Hunting serves no purpose in DayZ at the moment, especially if you can just get energized from a can of beans. Their priorities should be respawning loot, respawning zombies, and base building before adding in fringe content like hunting. Hunting it the kind of mechanic that complements having a base or living on a particular server/region. Hunting by itself adds nothing to the gameplay. People will still KoS in Elektro; they'll just have to go into town and deal with zombies less. The zombies going through buildings is apparently an issue with the building models not having a roadway applied for pathfinding, but new buildings are added still without the pathway. We should be seeing a few dozen buildings updated each week, and the new ones should have the roadway included as part of their production cycle. If they know the issue, they ought to be fixing it ASAP, especially if it's just painting in a path for zombies to follow. The art team is working on more guns instead of that or items for base building. Crossbows? Who is gonna use a crossbow except to try it?Whoever is doing the map is doing a nice job, but there are a ton of police stations with high value loot all over the coast. There's one on the way into Elektro, ffs. It's just another reason to run south and participate in the deathmatch.Etc.
  6. I'd like to be able to hide a handgun in the Crunchin' Crisps cereal box once it's empty, or 4 slots of anything else.

    Why shoot.

Nope, which is why I do it in video games. Humans tend to drift in and out of a bloodsport phase. The US is currently starting to come out of the lower end of that (MMA, less "think of the children").

    Battlefield 3 vs DayZ dispersion

In ACE's M4 pack (link in post above), the dispersion for the M4 is 0.00225, with a dispersion of 0.00275 for the SBR, 0.0035 for the M249, 0.003 for the Mk48, and 0.002 for the M16. It should also be noted that in this modpack at least, the dispersion for all of the M4s is the same, regardless of attachments. Edit: PsychicGamers reports the M4A1 in DayZ has a base dispersion of 0.1. Edit 2: Numbers from DayZDB match Psychic Gamers. The dispersion changes from the Magpul parts are -0.0489964 for the buttstock and -0.0489964 for the foregrip, bringing the end dispersion to 0.0020072, or slightly more accurate than the ACE version and essentially the accuracy of an M16. Adding a deployed bipod apparently takes off an additional 0.05 dispersion, so I dunno how that's actually applied.

    Why shoot.

Because people have always killed other people. One could ask the same question about the Roman Colosseum.

    Battlefield 3 vs DayZ dispersion

Downloading ACE's M4 pack, will let you know in a second. Edit: This may not be actual ACE values, but it's an addon. I don't have the patience to download all of ACE right now ;P
  11. I play on the regular hive for shits n giggles and found a little secret to landing headshots with your fists. When you're in 3rd person, your fists will hit a spot roughly where your head sits, not where the crosshair is. You can fine tune this by hitting a tree at various distances. Happy punching

How to: Land punches in 3PP

I get the feeling most people use 1PP when punching or just use their crosshair and expect it to land, which is why I posted this in New Player Discussion.

    Battlefield 3 vs DayZ dispersion

Oh, a quarter's 2.5cm? Just under an inch.

    Battlefield 3 vs DayZ dispersion

Hey, I report what I hear. He said that this was prone, and it was the grouping (not hitting an actual quarter). Standing or kneeling it was a human sized target, where his best was 9/10 shots. Edit: Does "quarter" mean something different to military types? Coin, quarter inch, quarter foot? Ah, fuckit, ignore that. Didn't ask enough to be sure what he meant.

How often do you sever hop?

I start hopping as soon as the experience gets stale, which is every hour or two. There's nothing to stop me from doing so, and an hour is plenty of time to do the NWAF/Vybor/Military Depot circuit and avoid the log in timer. Gotta get those gucci M4 parts. I'll keep hopping until the loot stops respawning on restart or DayZ provides me something other to do than the Elektro death march.

    Blast from the past

Spent my first night hiding in the tech building on Cherno's docks. It was raining and I was laying there hiding from the zombies.

    Spawning of guns

Wasn't he saying "as functional as CoD"? Love it or hate it, CoD does arcade shooter very well and the games are very smooth. As for the guns, did anyone notice the pre-Elektro-gear-up-station in Kamyshovo? There's another one in Staroye that no one probably uses. Your best bet for spawns is to get the 3 valleys one, loot the farm house and the yellow house and fill up at the pump, then jog to Staroye and gear at the police building there, head down to Kamyshovo and maybe get an easy kill at douche-bag rock and the police there, then jog into Elektro a changed man.

    Battlefield 3 vs DayZ dispersion

Crystallization on what? I and others here feel that the weapons in DayZ are too inaccurate and are not conducive to a skill-based game. This is because at the moment dispersion is the primary factor in deciding if a bullet hits a target, not the player's actual skill at lining up a shot or managing their weapon sway. Additionally, attachments to weapons apply arbitrary bonuses to unrelated stats, like how Magpul additions increase the accuracy of the M4 or the compensator on the Mosin. Weapons in DayZ should behave reasonably compared to their real life counterparts. Lastly, balance for the sake of balance is not an idea DayZ should be built upon, it surely wasn't that way in the mod. What else is there to crystallize? More to the point: I had to take a drive downtown to expedite a paper with the business people (40 work days to file an LLC? wtf? Another $35 for the state to make it 8...) with my buddy John. John is a fellow programmer and a student at my alma mater. He's ex-marine and I asked him what his grouping was at 300m. I'm told that it's the size of a quarter at 300m prone, 7-9/10 hits on a human sized target if standing or crouched. Granted, this is with an M16, but it's essentially the same gun.

    Battlefield 3 vs DayZ dispersion

For those that aren't always freshly spawned on the coast. Still off-topic When did I say I hated the game? I love the idea of DayZ, I just think Rocket's weak and not worthy of my respect or trust. That's an opinion, just like your opinion that everything's fine an dandy. I and others here have provided solutions. I encourage you to reread them and consider their impact on the game.

    Battlefield 3 vs DayZ dispersion

Here's 10km while in a jet on Arma 2. That number might seem high if you're comparing to arcade style games like CoD or BF.
  22. Publik

    Battlefield 3 vs DayZ dispersion

That 1km is variable. Arma can push that out to whatever you want. I'm not sure what ShackTac uses but I'd be willing to bet it's around a 2-3km draw distance. The reason DayZ chugs right now is that it's not optimized. I'd also be willing to bet they don't have object occlusion on right now, so when you look into Elektro the engine renders every single building, not just the ones that are visible. Nowhere did I say hit a target at 1.2km with an M4. Maybe an M24 from the mod. The point still stands. If a weapon can hit at 1.2km in real life, I don't see why not in a survival sim, based on a military sim. If an M4 is reliable to 300m stock, why not let it be in the game? For arbitrary "balance"? The Good Lord Rocket Dean Hall said that DayZ was supposed to be an anti-game and ignore concepts like "balance" that other games make their core. Edit: Also, you can't etch your name into a tree not because it's a game, but because some poor programmer wasn't ordered to make it happen.
