Got sauce for that info or is it just hearsay? Not going to add a new post, it's somewhat off topic: Then don't quote it as the truth if you can't be bothered to back it up?

Up to Rocket on that one, though I want to be able to inspect items to get more info about them. "Steve is bleeding from a laceration on his arm", so I've got to stop the bleeding and maybe stitch it up, clean the wound, etc. "The shotgun barrel is bent slightly to the left", so I should manually aim left, or maybe "The shotgun barrel is clogged" so I need to clear it before firing. For weapons themselves, I'd really like to be able to interact with them in hand like you can with the choppers in TOH. If your M4 jams, look at the charging handle and you'll get a context option to cycle the weapon. If you look at the flashlight or laser, you get the option to turn it on/off. If you look at the dials on your scope, you get the option to adjust the windage or yardage, etc. Weapons themselves are pretty simple to use, and there aren't usually a lot of switches and knobs to deal with. It would also be cool to be able to disassemble or field strip a weapon, clean each part, check each part for damage and replace it if need be. As for weapon accuracy, I think it should mirror its real life counterpart as best as possible; same muzzle velocity, bullet mass, rate of fire. Your player then can have weapon sway based on your current state of health; if you're malnourished it's hard to keep the weapon steady just like if you're in pain or exhausted. Even then, you'd still be able to somewhat compensate for the sway, and weapons are skill based for it. If you know that the gun jumps up and to the left when you shoot, you should be able to compensate.

To a degree. If none of it matters you probably wouldn't have a deep helicopter system like TOH. It'd be more like the mod where it just flies if it has an engine, turning it on is done for you, morphine always cures broken legs, etc. With player knowledge, you'd need to know how to turn it on first, etc :P
-
Please no XP... I don't want this turned into a stat grind fest. "Hold up guys, gotta turn my wrench another 50 times to level up". Was talking with our CEO the other night about helicopters, and he linked me to a video of TOH. If you don't flip the switches in the cockpit in the right order, helicopter doesn't work. If everything was like that the barrier for your character being trained or untrained is if you actually know how to turn on a helicopter and read the gauges and controls. With these weapons, the barrier is whether or not you get lucky on your roll. It has nothing to do with player knowledge or skill. As Gews said, these numbers are hard to screw up. There's intent behind their current numbers, and that intent sucks. Edit: Also, people are so adamant about changing this because it doesn't make any damned sense. This isn't hardcore piss-on-your-face-trololol-you-died gunplay, this is CoD or Battlefield.

I can use my feet! Edit: Other light civilian planes would be good too (a Cessna or news helicopter, etc).
-
Only if I can shoot down with my AS50 or M249
-
And it's not like gun sway is hard to add, it's already there if you run a bit.

What do the dots/stars under your name mean?

Number of posts/rank, I think. At 6 you can change the text over your picture. -
Has anyone else noticed that this question keeps being posted to new threads by new members? I swear, I've seen this asked by people with 1-4 posts a half dozen times.

At some point we're going to get large, heavy items. For example, engine blocks or tires in the mod. I'd like to suggest a few ways of moving these items around that make sense (no putting engine blocks in your backpack). 1. Large Items Some items will be too large to reasonably fit in a backpack, but still light enough that a person could reasonably pick up and move the item around. For these items, say a gas tank or tire, you could put the item on your back in place of a backpack and carry it around. If you pick the object up on your back, your character can only move slowly and leans forward with their hands behind their back to carry the item. While carrying an item like this, you cannot have an item in hand, carry a pack, or have anything on your back. Alternatively, you can take rope in hand before you pick up the item and create a makeshift item backpack, which frees your hands for other things and lets you carry a weapon on your back as well. You could also pick up such an item in your hands and carry it that way. When carrying one of these items in hand, your character can only walk and tires quickly. If you get too tired, you drop the item and have to rest. If you carry items on your back with a large item in hand, you tire faster. 2. Large, heavy items Some items will be large and also very heavy, for example an engine block. For these items, you probably can't pick it up and put it on your back. When such an item is on the ground, you can interact with it and push it, which moves it in the direction you're pushing by 1m or so. Pushing an item tires out your character. 3. Using a Sled You could also build a sled to put items on to drag them around, using some wood and a rope. Drop wood on ground, take rope in hands, interact with wood to Build Sled, move the sled near the item you want to move, and if it's within 1m you can Load Onto Sled. This places the large item onto the sled. The sled acts as a vehicle with a small amount of inventory space. You can "drive" the sled around, which tires your character depending on how full the sled is. You could also stack other items onto the sled, say weapons or packs. 4. Using Vehicles If you've got a vehicle, say a pickup truck or 2-tonne, you can move the vehicle near the item (within 1m or so) and get the option to Load Into Vehicle, just like loading the sled. You can also take the item out of the vehicle, which places it on the ground directly behind the vehicle. Scenario: You're in the industrial part of Cherno with a buddy and find an engine block sitting on some cinderblocks. Your clan has a vehicle nearby you're trying to fix up. Luckily, you've got some rope, but nothing to make a sled out of. You scrounge around and find some scrap wood and return to your engine. You drop the planks, attach some rope to it, and presto, sled. You "drive" the sled near the engine block, and load the engine on top. To make it somewhat easier for you, you also drop your pack and weapons onto the sled. You pick up the rope and start pulling the sled, with your buddy walking along as an escort. You're driving through Berezino and get into a firefight. The bastards shoot out your tire but you manage to kill them. You head down to the Lumber Mill and Docks area to find a new tire, and you're in luck. Your car is nearby, so you pick up the item in your hands and begin slowly walking it back to your car. Some guy shoots you when you get back, fixes up your car, and drives off into the sunset. TL;DR Large item like tirePick up on back, only walk, no backpack or weapons on backPick up on back with rope, can run, no backpackPick up in hands, only walk, get tired quicklyLarge item like enginePush 1mSledWood or other material + rope = sledActs like vehicleCan move stuff like engines - "Load Onto Sled"Can carry other stuff too (bodies, people, packs, weapons)

Not really. We've already got the ability to carry things in hand, this would just be a different animation with some other restrictions, like how some hats take up a head slot but still allow a headlamp. Carrying an item on your back just treats it like a backpack without any items that takes up the 2 shoulder slots as well. Moving stuff around on the ground is a simple script, and a sled would act like a bicycle that has a lot of friction and doesn't move very fast. It's actually pretty reasonable for Arma to handle.

Can't PvE if there isn't any E.
-
Wouldn't help, I always double-tap. Edit: But it would be cool. I'd also like different sitting animations depending on stance. IE if you're prone you roll over and put your arms behind your head.

Because mirrors are lovingly grafted into each and every survivor's eyes, right? I know Arma3 has picture-in-picture for scopes/mirrors and so on, dunno if DayZ is built with enough of those features to make it possible (Arma3 watered down or Arma2 buffed up).

No they don't. They just have to fling shit on the forums. Forever. Edit: I'm up to 9 10 -

Is it those blasted CQF traitors again? -
Get to cover, listen to where the shots are coming from. If you see shots hitting a wall near you, you can figure out what direction they're in based on where they aren't shooting you from. Never go prone, you'll just get shot. I think shot audio is kind of bugged right now, I can never tell what direction the shots are in.

Did anyone else log in after this latest patch to have inventory missing from their backpacks? I'm missing everything but my water bottles and my bible from my backpack. Edit: Looks like I lost everything but the top row of items.

I don't understand the forum community anymore, but I'm slowly finding pleasure in watching people being shat on by the vocal masses. AJ, take your beans back, this post is about you. -
That there's a bug that deletes all (but maybe the top row) from your backpack?

I lost my can opener... HOW AM I GOING TO OPEN ALL OF THESE CANS???

It builds some atmosphere, a thing this game desperately needs. I'd like it as a prop for people that can do that. Also, I may need to borrow you during trade ops.
