Why this mod is the best thing to happen to PC gaming
GreGorYck replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I can see a goldmine of potential micro transactions within this game, but it needs to move away from arma if it is ever going to get off the ground as a stand alone. It needs its own engine, tailor made to incorporate all of the atmospheric factors which effect ones ability to survive. It needs great artwork to truly capture the sense of an apocalypse and make the game world worth exploring. It needs more zombie variations (give me a reason to use my 300 .50 rounds)...I could drone on all day about this. I hope they go the money making route because that is how great games get made. -
It is an automated system, with a timer...perhaps it is not the length of time in question, but perhaps your perception of it?

I am currently renting a server which is based in america, and I am become seriously frustrated with an issue which may cause me to cancel my payments to the provider and give up trying with this game. This is not another ranting post, I am just looking for opinions here. My team and I are playing quite a lot at the moment and we recover vehicles regularly. For the first 3 weeks of having our server we were able to go about our business...killing...looting and having fun. Eventually we had enough equipment to justify having our own camp...so we built one. It turned into a tent city and finally someone found it! We had a massive fight for it which lasted hours and we a lot of fun ! Eventually there was a low point in the fighting and we decided to evacuate our remaining vehicles. A group of Russians appeared on the server while our massive fight was going on but they were not involved in the hostilities. We moved our vehicles when the server was quiet and set up shop in a good spot about 13km from the old camp. We logged out for the night. One of our members logged on early the next morning (less than 6 hours later) and discovered that all of our vehicles were missing again and our few tents had been looted. Acceptable. It happens :) So we went looking in the hills and recovered 3 of our lost vehicles that looked as if they had been abandoned, and one at a big camp. We moved our vehicles and made another camp, again, well hidden miles from the old one. We logged out for the night. I personally checked in the morning (about 7 hours later) and all of our vehicles were gone again. So, we went up into the hills again and found the URAL. We moved it into a group of trees while we were the only ones on the server, very late at night. I logged in the next morning (less than 4 hours later) to find that only this Russian clan were on the server and once again, the vehicle was missing. I am getting sick of this, I know there is something fishy going on, but I cant do anything about it. We are also finding a lot of people with hacked weapons, such as PDW SD's (screenshots available with names if necessary). Perhaps the only way to stop this from happening is to shut down our server for good?

there was just another independent post about this very same thing on my server, we believe we have contained the problem without issuing bans. Thank you septuscap for your suggestion
-
you are not the only person to have had an like this on atlanta 33. I wrote a thread yesterday called, 'to all server admins.' We have been suspicious about a group of people for a while but we have no way to stop them doing what they are doing :)
-
We have been looking into a way to deliver a warning message before we restart, since none of us are very familiar with the server controls this has taken some time and our server provider was not very helpful. However, yesterday we got RCON up and running and we will now be issuing warnings before we restart.

after careful consideration we have decided to stop paying for our server, we are powerless to do anything against these people without a backlash from the community. Trying to win against hackers is like playing tick tack toe, the only way to win is not to play :)

this is not about entitlement, this is about weeding out cheaters, but thank you for your intelligent contribution Ballistixz

I have an L85 AWS, it has thermals

for clearing zombies, yes. it kills them with a few shots and can barely be heard by players. If you try killing players with it you might have to use the whole mag to land a kill though

To all the "THIS IS TOO HARD" people

was this necessary? -
I want a world boss of sorts, a huge lumbering abomination that goes around smacking people who get lost in the woods at night

What is your logic, Bandits/PKers in general?
GreGorYck replied to avalontreman's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
A bandits equipment will generally be better than that of a survivor, to protect my investment in terms of time...I shoot on sight It is also fun -
I don't like the idea of a game telling me I can't play it...seems counter intuitive, right? I can see your point but if you are dying more frequently than the average survival time I would suggest that the preservation of your own life is not your priority. This game really opens up when you move away from populated areas like Cherno and Electro. Sometimes the key to survival is knowledge, not just weapons and beans. How can you get enough playtime in to acquire the necessary knowledge to improve the replay value of this game when every death kicks you out of the game for 8 hours?

My feelings on the negativity toward Rocket and other devs.
GreGorYck replied to billyangstadt's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Those who are the least satisfied are also the most vocal. There are a quarter of a million players and not many of them feel the need to say anything on the forums because they are happy... It is a shame that those posting any constructive criticism also get shot down in flames though. It is quite clear that the dev team are taking the communities ideas on board, so if somebody makes a credible suggestion I would like there to be less trolls telling that person that they should just stop playing. The more suggestions and feedback, the better the polished game will be. Do not discount the masses, that is who you are making the game for. Insert a smarmy comment about this being an, 'anti-game.' Given the level of cooperation this mod has had with the creators of ARMA 2, I would say this will be a major selling point for ARMA 3. Which means it will be a balanced, well rounded finished product, not a deathmatch with zombies. If it ends up going the MMO direction there will be persistent measures to compliment a players play time or, 'humanity,' however that ends up playing out. Personally I would like to see players unlocking the survival items such as a map, compass and hunting knife dependent upon the players play style and play time. By unlocking, I mean permanently available (they could still be looted in the conventional way but would not persist through death). If you are a survivor who likes teaming up with people to get better equipment, the system will compliment you with early unlocks for hunting knives, matches and other equipment which is vital for surviving as long as possible. However, if you are a ruthless bandit that always shoots on sight, the system will unlock other items such as maps and compasses to allow you a greater sense of navigation and allow you to travel between hotspots at a faster rate. I'm not saying it is a perfect idea, but it is at least a suggestion. Great games are built upon tweaking in the early alpha stage, the more testers the better (see the Blizzard doctrine). As a community we should take advantage of this situation as let our voices be heard. Don't flame each other for no reason other than to belittle someones opinion. -

furball any ballpark guess of when my server will be online? -
I don't believe the idea of a zombie apocalypse game that forces players to scavenge is new either, in fact I expected there to be a successful MMO of this style up and running years ago

still cant loot crashed choppers

Creation of "private" RPG server(S?)?
GreGorYck replied to Rivler's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I would take the time to explain methods of development for this game which would attract more people and increase the replay value of the project for the average player, which would lead to a reasonable revenue stream to support development of future expansions and maybe even its own engine...but I won't...because every time anyone posts anything here they are hit with a torrent of abuse about how they are so wrong. -
Creation of "private" RPG server(S?)?
GreGorYck replied to Rivler's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
played this game for 2 weeks straight and loved it but im getting sick of the lack of persistence, so I will revisit it when it is past the beta stage and decide if I like it at that point. With no persistence, this game has no replay value for me. -
Hey hey, I can refuel our car once before it becomes impossible to find the 'Refuel UAZ,' message in the scroll bar. If I disconnect and rejoin, I can then refuel ONCE more before i have to disconnect again. Anyone else having this problem?

A-Team theme song...given the amount of time i spend fixing up vehicles (still no word on how to fix leaky choppers)
