So I was out late tonight and got a nasty cough. Great! I kept running around, but my temperature was already too low to get back up. I managed to find a heat pack, but my cough persisted. Went rummaging through several hospitals and medical tents, no joy finding antibiotics to cure it. I was about to give up, so I nom'd on some steaks to regain my strength and said, "One more hospital..." No luck finding antibiotics in there either. I even moved all the tins cans to get to those precious medical boxes. But then I noticed something, my blood wasn't dropping and my cough had gone away. So I have two questions... Am I still infected? (I'm thinking not.) How does DayZ know when you need an item? Troll algorithms?

Not entirely true... When I logged out earlier I was infected, came back online and was still infected. It was the same server, and even after the 2nd server I still had a cough, but then it magically disappeared.

Must've only been constipated. That can make one feel really bad too. Of course I logged back in and found antibiotics in the first pile of bandages I ran across. So it sounds like the infection might go away on its own? Not losing blood, not coughing... but also no longer cold (really miss the temperature in the debug monitor, hard to tell with the current meter) I'm worried I'll give it to my buddies without realizing it. Having the temperature in Celsius may be unrealistic, but maybe three states "Warm", "Cold", "Freezing" would be realistic enough, I can tell the difference between those to know when I need to lay down on a fire for a few minutes.

I'll be sure to have a funeral pyre already made up when my buddies put me down.... ... must... find... antibiotics....
