I didn't say it shouldn't happen, I said it should only happen when you hit the pocket or pouch on that particular piece of clothing, not if you hit the shirt for example everything gets destroyed in that shirt

I know I'm going to get A LOT of flak for this, but the SA is too damn easy to find loot. Part of that is because people are learning where to find the loot now, which is a separate issue because we should always be kept guessing as to where the loot is. If we can say that building has shit spawns and pass to a better one then there is an issue. But the other part is that if DayZ is supposed to be set months after the apocalypse started, then loot, especially guns and ammo, should be HARD to find. Food You should have to almost completely live off of food that you hunt and kill or scavenge in the wild. Now I know that hunting hasn't really even been implemented yet, and so food and drink spawns have to be raised so people can actually live, but once hunting is a viable option, I think food and loot spawns should decrease to almost zero. There should be next to nothing in any places since people would have grabbed all the food they can carry when the outbreak occurred. Supplies Supplies that are of little value should still be at least common because most people would have filled their backpacks with more important items during the first days of the outbreak. But supplies like med kits and melee weapons like hammers or axes should be nearly non existent. People would have taken theirs with them, or even if they left them scavengers coming through a couple weeks after the outbreak would have picked clean any of the last supplies. If you find a med kit you should be rich in medical supplies. It is way to easy to find medical if you leave med kits because you already have three. Weapons Weapons, especially primary weapons, should be EXTREMELY RARE. There should only be a handful on the entire map. Any rifle would have been grabbed days after the apocalypse, and you think there should be rifles aplenty months after? Fat chance. The chances of finding a military weapon should be .00000000000001%. There should be less than 20 or 30 military weapons throughout ALL THE SERVERS. The only weapons left should be a simple hunting rifle, probably a small .22 or .223. The weapons that do spawn should 99.9% of the time be close to not working at all and should jam quite often. All the good working guns should been picked clean, leaving only the rusting piles of garbage left for you and me. I will get to cleaning those guns in a bit, but I first want to talk about secondaries. Secondaries should be slightly more common, but should be found in hard to reach places or under beds and such. They are much smaller, and could be hidden in a house better than a rifle, raising their chances of staying hidden from scavengers. Most should be in bad condition, but the well hidden ones should be in better condition, and if you are reallyyyy lucky, perfect condition. Gun cleaning To clean the guns, gun cleaning kits should help keep them from jamming, but those should be very rare too. It would be nice to see a makeshift gun cleaning kit implemented that uses a rag and a stick to clean the barrel, but doesn't do as good of a job as an actual kit. I would LOVE to see an actual mechanism for the player having to disassemble the gun and have a UI with the gun parts that they have to clean and reassemble, and the better they do the better condition the gun is in, but I seriously doubt that will happen. I think it would be absolutely AWESOME, and would teach people that guns do need care to keep working properly and people who are smart and take care of their gun should have an advantage against people who just pick up a gun and shoot. I can see the people freaking out in the comments already, so I think including books that spawn that have illustrations on how to clean a specific gun would be a good idea if that was implemented. Ammo Ammo should be REALLYYYYY hard to find, and if you do it should be in very low quantities. The only ammo left should be a couple bullets here, and a couple of bullets there. It should take you a couple hours to find enough bullets to fill a 30 round mag. All this bullshit of finding 60 round mags full and being able to fill an ammo box just by checking the buildings at balota once is shit. If the spawns aren't lowered, I can see the SA becoming what the mod was, where you can get all the gear you will ever need by checking only the good buildings in Elektro once. You should have to spend DAYS collecting loot, then maybe people would care more about their loot and would be more cautious about firing away when they see someone, which gets me to my last point. Loot destruction I agree 100% with the idea that if you shoot someone in the chest, any items in pockets in their shirt should be broken, but ONLY if the bullets actually hit the area with the pockets! Every single person I kill has EVERY PIECE OF LOOT DESTROYED. I don't know if this mechanic is broken right now or what, but no matter WHERE I hit them, ALL their loot is broken. And fixing it to the point where if you hit their shirt, all the loot in that shirt is destroyed doesn't cut it either. This mechanic, while broken or not, doesn't remove the shoot on sight mentality. It may lower it a bit for someone who is desperate for supplies to hold someone up rather than shoot them, but 90% of the time people will blow you away just to get rid of you and to neutralize the threat. What we need is for the clothing that you wear to have some kind of invisible marker on them that marks the pockets, so that when a bullet hits that area only the items IN THAT POCKET are destroyed. I get that if you fill their backpack full of lead that there won't be anything worth salvaging from their backpack, but come on. When I hit their arm and they have a long sleeve shirt it destroys everything in their WHOLE ENTIRE SHIRT. This can't and shouldn't happen, and I really really really hope that they fix this issue. I can hear the comments freaking out already, and they are saying OMG YOU CAN'T MAKE IT THIS REALISTIC, ITS A GAME ITS MEANT TO BE FUN. And I say to that, if you want a game with a realistic combat system but a bountiful supply of weapons play Arma 2. DayZ is meant to be a SURVIVAL SIMULATOR, it is not supposed to be any old GAME. It is meant to mimic what would happen in real life, it isn't meant to be fun. There will be times when you loose four days worth of loot to some idiot with a revolver, but that is life, shit happens. The people who play the game tactically and take a great deal of caution should be rewarded, and the people who run in guns blazing should be killed left and right. Life months after an apocalypse should be FUCKING HARD. You should have to hunt for food more than eat left over food found in buildings. You should be considered rich if you have a full 30 round mag for your M4. It should be common to only get a revolver with 6 bullets. When people have that much ammo, they will probably think twice about attacking someone they see right away. They don't know how many people are with you, and they don't know if they have enough bullets to kill all of you either. If you REALLY do want the kill on sight mentality to stop, don't make loot be destroyed when you are shot, make the attackers life worth enough to them where they may reconsider the idea in the first place. If someone spent 3 days collecting a revolver and 3 bullets, they probably won't kill you on sight unless they are REALLY stupid. Their gun probably is in bad condition and could jam on them, there could be more than one person, and who knows what else could happen. They spent so many hours collecting what they have, they would have to be suicidal to attempt attacking you unless they absolutely had to.

How to reload 45 Pistol and what the heck is the defib for?

Are there even mags in the game? I've never seen one, unless they're really small or rare -

My friend and I have been playing on a server and we found some AWESOME loot so far. We have the 45 pistol and 80 rounds, but we can't figure out how to load them into the gun. Do you need a mag? We haven't seen any mags, and im pretty sure we've seen nearly every item so far other than books of course. We have also found a defibrillator, but have NO idea what the heck is it for. can you seriously revive people within a certain time? -
That would be the best case scenario for DayZ in my opinion, I love a challenge that makes me think outside the box. Will DayZ ever be like that? Probably not, there are too many people whining about how it is too hard. If we're lucky we will get someone who mods the game and sets up his own servers with the intent of making the game as you described.

The main thing that sucks right now: The FPS
Keudn replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Idk about all you guys, but my 770 and i5-2500k gets 50fps in the forest, unfortunently it drops down to 20 in cities still :( wish the SA would use more than 50% of my gpu though, ive never seen it go above that 50% usage mark :/ -
I like the idea of stuff respawning as it is looted in random locations throughout the map, although I really hope it doesn't end up like the mod where it is EXTREMELY easy to find loot. Keep the loot hard to find but yet always there, you just need to know where to look, and people will be happy. You cant say its not there because it is always kept at the same amount, but yet you can't go raid cherno and find everything you need because the big cities will still be emptied while the loot moves to less popular locations so people who actually know how to loot will find it :)

EXACTLY. My friend and I jumped on a random server that had been up for a few hours and still managed to find 2 pistols, a couple m4s, and food and drink. I even looted the elektro firestation RIGHT after someone else, they literally walked out and I walked in, and i found a pistol under a box that you could barely see. People are blind, people miss things, the coastal cities where you can spawn may be looted already, but there WILL be things, and there will only be more things as you go farther inland. Find food and drink, and run north. And to the people passing out after 10 minutes, 10 minutes is a a LONG time to SPRINT. Let go of that double tapped W and walk or jog for a while, and let your character take breaks. This isn't arma, where you can run for hours at a time, your character is only going to be able to sprint for a few minutes.

After watching JackFrags interview Rocket he said he doesn't know yet how you are going to be able to spawn into the game and if you will be able to choose where you spawn. A suggestion I have is to have a menu before the player spawns where they can choose from some major cities on the map and important locations to spawn at, but the catch is that there is a small chance of spawning outside the city and the farther away from the original spawn point the lower the chance is. Say for example I wanted to spawn in Elektro. I have a fairly good chance of spawning in or near to Elektro, but there is a smaller chance of spawning away from it, and the farther away from Elektro the smaller the chance is to spawn there. In real life you get to choose (usually) the area you want to live in, but where you are exactly when the zombie outbreak happens is pretty much random. You could be picking your kids up from school and zombies show up, you could be visiting a friend in another city, possibly on the other side of the map. The majority of the time, however, most people spend around their home and don't travel much, but everyone goes to another city or town or just out into the wilderness to camp or do whatever it is that people like to do, and that could be where you end up when the zombie outbreak happens. This spawning mechanic closely mimics how people move about in real life and allows people to choose roughly where they spawn when they die but still allows for randomness to make them end up not exactly where they want to be.

how would it be having two primarys equipped? this isnt mw2, its dayz. even if you had a gun and a full size axe the axe wont do any good unless the player is right in front of you, and you still have to pull it out which takes time, its not like having two snipers you can switch between in half a second

i think this is a good idea actually but would have to be limited. for example you could only blindfold and handcuff a person if you had a friend who had snuck up behind the player without him knowing and got him in a choke hold as so he couldnt escape. then you could run up and slap handcuffs or tie him up with a rope and blindfold him. you could then load him into a car and take him were ever you pleased. the downside to this is that as the player who gets captured once you are tied up you have a option to try to escape. as the captured player once you were in a choke hold you could start fighting to escape and if you were gave enough time you could break free. another option for the player is instead of handcuffing him disarming him by ripping his gun from his hand or off his back. after bound, there could be a window where the player himself had to work his way out of the bindings such as skyrim and picking locks. obviously this would take some time, but it could be made where ropes were easier to get and could be stored in your toolbelt to be used for other functions as well and handcuffs were rare to find and also went on your toolbelt but had no other function. as ropes were simpler to get and had other functions the downside is that it is easier to untie the knot and escape once bound. handcuffs on the other hand would require a pick to pick their lock and would be harder to escape from, balancing them out. once free, you could opt to roll out of the car as it was driving, taking some blood loss and having a low chance of breaking your bones depending on the speed of the car, or you could wait for them to remove you from the car and free yourself and maybe punch them or run away.

1. who has a sword anymore? no one, so how would you find one? 2. bow and arrows dont shoot faster than crossbows, but i like the idea 3. you cant remove wirefence with a crowbar... 4. i agree with more melee weapons, a melee weapon would be VERY vital in a apocalypse since its quiet and doesn't take ammo 5. other melee weapons should be a baseball bat, steel pipe, etc 6. generators would be useless as why would you want to light a place up at night? it would make you VERY vulnerable as well as make it easier for zombies to see you. Generators could however be used to secure a location and provide power to run water or power a stove to cook on and create a base 7. uniforms would be a good idea however you would need to collect materials to dye the clothes or paint to paint them

One thing that really bugs me about DayZ right now is the fact that a hatchet is considered a primary weapon. Unless the hatchet is a full on axe with 3 feet or more of handle then it should be considered a secondary as it is not hard at all to hang a small hatchet from your belt. it would make it much easier to clear out zombies as you could put your gun on your back and pull your hatchet out from your belt to kill zombies with quietly. A hatchet as a secondary wouldn't even be a good advantage because it would mean you cannot keep a pistol with you too meaning you would still have a choice between a handgun or a hatchet.

if the engine is not clunky anymore and it is easy to navigate close quarters in first person and the FOV is fixed so it isnt tunnel vision get rid of 3rd person. it gives people too good of an advantage. the only reason im for it is because as it stands first person is almost impossible to play
