European mature squad looking for server
jakeb replied to Vest's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I'll second Need4Beans as well. The guy who owns the server is very active. Hackers get banned in usually less than 10 minutes, and the database is backed up every 10 minutes too so that no damage is done. He has also implemented many network optimisations and several bug fixes to the DayZ code - these eliminate duping and other such things. The teamspeak is usually pretty full: ts.need4beans.com You can find the forums here: www.need4beans.com And some statistics here: www.need4beans.com/stats.php If you can't find it in the server browser, the IP is: 192.207.14.220 port 2302. - Jake -
Suggestions for the DayZ standalone - thinking outside of the limitations of an Arma 2 mod.
jakeb replied to ruarz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
* Training system. The more you run, the fitter you are so the longer you can sprint for and the less you run out of stamina. Perhaps also the type of food you eat matters a lot, and has differing nutrition levels. No just surviving on beans! * Definitely a shopping trolley/wheel barrow. * More types of bike. Arma 2 already has a mountain bike dammit... * The Ka-60 and Little Bird (unarmed) helis are perfect for DayZ. The Ka-60 is more of a private heli and is unarmed, so would take the residential area spawns. The little bird would be interesting; smaller and easier to hide, but slower and easier to shoot down/shoot people out of. Ka-60 is pretty similar to the Huey. * More weapon slots in helicopters...seriously...a Huey can only take 3 weps? U srs? * Fabric paint for customisation/marking your team/leaving messages * Camo nets * Vehicle paint (military camo would be rare) * Car keys/locks * Safes (also maybe some safes in banks, and the key has a low chance of spawning on zombies created by that building). * Pointless, rare, 'for show' guns, like the golden revolver. * Campervan * Dartgun (causes zombies to 'sleep' for 5 minutes, and are crawlers thereafter. Egg timer for players.) * More boats (some rowing) * Biplane, because lol. * .22 caliber weps * PKP and RPD, because they're sexy * Helicopters can lift other vehicles * ATVs, bikes, motorcycles can fit in the back of the Ural/V3S (take up some player slots) * Ability to flip vehicles, requiring a certain number of people depending on weight value. * Helicopters that don't shit a brick when you land them faster than 5 'units' (what is the speed measured as in Arma 2, anyway?) * Being able to shoot from the side of a heli (or any vehicle, really) * Quiver for the crossbow, or just stackable arrows. * Different types of bow * As everyone else has said, many different lower tier civilian weapons. * Up the winchester spawn rate and decrease the double barrel. Seriously. * Notepad and pen. * Radios, can tune into different frequency. Police/military radios offer encryption. * Generators for electricity. This could power a town's lights etc. Would be fueled like a vehicle, pretty low consumption rate. If shot at it would never be completely destroyed; just take scrap metal to fix. * Helicopters don't need windscreen glass to not leak. * More clothes, spawn depending on building. * Different levels of tent (already included in Arma) * Siphoning hose for redistributing fuel or filling quicker. * Matches aren't infinite. * Some houses have working cookers, if you have fuel. * Lighters. * Bubble gun, because pew pew pew. * Megaphone/stereo - can place and then play your voice over a much larger radius than standard direct comms. Could play gunshot noises through it. * Laser pointers. * Digital cameras. -
Ollie has a reputation of being a very fair admin who is quick to act and will take the time out of his day to solve others' problems. So his word is far more trustworthy than yours, the accused. 09.09.2012 03:26:32: Holygoalie10 (IP) GUID - #0 "BAF_ied_v1" 347:28 347:9 [9161,9643,297] [0,0,0] 09.09.2012 03:29:02: Holygoalie10 (IP) GUID - #0 "BAF_ied_v1" 347:31 347:9 [6664,2341,10] [0,0,0] 09.09.2012 03:31:12: Holygoalie10 (IP) GUID - #0 "DZ_Backpack_EP1" 347:37 [6585,2405,5] 09.09.2012 03:32:47: Holygoalie10 (IP) GUID - #0 "BAF_ied_v1" 347:42 347:9 [11807,4050,66] [0,0,0] > 03:26:32 - 9161,9643 > 03:29:02 - 6664,2341 > 03:32:47 - 11807,4050 Tell me, how do you change position so fast? I've just written a short script to take care of this. Basically the problem is because your current Arma 2 OA CD-key is written into the header files of the DLC. Thus when you switch to your second character, it fails. I've written a simple batch script that swaps out your registry keys and your BAF/PMC files with the correct ones. To use requires some set up: have your first character in the registry and BAF/PMC installed for him. Rename the BAF and PMC folders to BAF_alt and PMC_alt, and export the "Arma 2 OA" subkey of the registry to "BIS.reg" in your Arma 2 OA install directory (the same one the DLCs are in). Now simply add your second character's key to the registry, as you would normally, and install BAF and PMC again. All you have to do now is edit the .bat (right click > edit) and type in your install path in the appropriately marked place (it's commented with lots of caps!). You should also always open up a bat to look through it before ever running one on your system in case someone sneaks anything into it. edit: on the line above that I have written "G:". The G should be changed to whichever drive letter your game is installed on (if in doubt, it's C). Now that this is done, all it takes is a quick double click to switch between characters, as it was before. download: http://www.mediafire...0nt46idwxf8cksf code (if you want to view it first): http://pastebin.com/3qEzcDKM The first part checks you're running as admin (registry keys cannot be swapped in otherwise). The second part checks DayZ or Arma aren't running (folders cannot be swapped otherwise). The third part swaps the folders over. It's pretty nice, but still a work in progress. I need to find out how to return an install path from the registry to use in a command, as currently the batch file requires editing for use, which is never good.

Fly CSS: Chernarus Shuttle Service
jakeb replied to GodOfGrain's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Firstly a heli can hover several feet above and you can get in it, so that makes it easier. Secondly, if you jump off of a really high building onto something else (say rubble in the road, a zombie, or another player) you won't die (true story! even from the tallest buildings in Cherno). This might be useful as our squad is looking to build another heli and I'm right in the NW with every part we need. Can pay with a high end weapon/ammo if we stop off at my tent location on route. I'll let you guys know, added you on steam for now (BlankedyBlank). -
Could it run DayZ Mostly Maxed w/o shadows?
jakeb replied to TheSneakySpy's topic in New Player Discussion
Yes, that will run DayZ fine. I also have a gaming laptop - the Asus G73 series to be precise, and I can run it on very high (shadows medium) with no AA/AF/PP and get 30-60 frames depending on location. Does drop to ~19 in cities though if the server is shit. Specs: i7 720QM, ATI mHD 5870, 16GB 1600MHz Kingston HyperX, running it off of a 7200RPM HDD, no SSD. The desktop you posted shouldn't have any trouble. To the guy posting about his laptop, and cost etc, gaming laptops are a lot more expensive than an equivalent desktop, so yes yours costs more but that doesn't mean squat. Also a desktop gfx card will be a lot more powerful than the same numbered laptop card. Combine a lot less room for overclocking, the impossibility of adding in a second card CF/SLI etc. -
It should have been emailed to you, so check there. It will also be on the account you created on the website you purchased it from. Keep at it - it's a great game.

Found G36C SD (CAMO) on another Survivor - is that weapon a hack?
jakeb replied to kingkrabbe.#bof's topic in New Player Discussion
If you make your way up north then I will more than replace your Lee Enfield for you. I have lots of kit, and the game needs more people who are friendly and averse to hacked stuff. Good job on the kill by the way. Clearly that guy had to hack because he sucked. You should have taken screenshots/a video of killing him (his name popped up) and then the G36C on his body, would have earnt him a nice ban. Or you could have pressed "study body" on him, whilst looking at him holding his G36C - that would have made a nice screenshot.
