I suspect this Joker is just trolling, but in case not, may I suggest simply typing "dayz" into google or youtube. It's true, there isn't a ton of formal direction for new players, but there's plenty of help available through other means. If an old-timer like myself can figure it out, someone obviously (hopefully?) younger should be able to. Am I using "trolling" right?

Not a terribly exciting story, but more for the record, and my recollection... My first encounter with other survivors wasn't typical of most I've had since. It was a pretty exciting session, relatively speaking. I had finally gotten my hands on a weapon, even if it was just a hatchet. Still, I was trying to be careful. In spite of crawling around outside some buildings, I managed to attract the attention of a couple of zeds. I knew enough to head inside to slow their roll and give myself a good swinging chance. No dice, and learning to fight with a hatchet was a skill I'd have to work out later. After taking some hits, I bolted outside kiting zombies like a true noob. As I'm running through town in circles, I hear voices. At this point I had no idea you were able to speak to other players, so it was a bit startling. There were two of them, and they were asking me if I'd like to be put down so I didn't have to wait to bleed out. I said yes but not so they could hear me. They had started killing some of the zeds that were following me, but when I didn't respond, they took off and left me to my death. So two dudes, thanks, sorry I didn't know how to take you up on your offer. It was the most decent treatment I've ever gotten from any survivors.

To those who look down on bandits/pvp...

I don't look down on bandits or pvp, I just wish the game was more about zombies. Once you've figured out how to deal with them, the only real thrill left is other players. -
Greetings, Glad to see I'm not the only old-timer around here. Let's just say my daughter is starting her last year of high school. I've been playing mostly pve in WoW and such for years. Just finished an especially brutal stint in SWToR (everything you've read is true). Been having a blast turning off all the lights, putting on my headphones, and playing with one of my gazillion zombie dvd's running in the background. About the time I learned how to deal with zeds, I started running into other players. Between the two, it keeps my heart pounding and gives me that visceral jolt 9-5 grown-up life is missing. So to the a-hole snipers and bandits, thanks, I guess. To the hackers... I hope it helps fill that hole in your unhappy soul...losers! Just trying to survive, haven't killed anyone yet. I don't alt-f4 like a pussy, but I do run like one!

To play? Nope. If that doesn't bother you, I highly recommend buying it. If you love zombies and your expectations are in-line, you will be a happy camper!

End of my first week playing. Day 0, take twentysomething. My short-term goal is to just live to see Day 1. Last night I found a ghillie suit. I only had time to run to the woods and try it on before having to log off. Of course, as a relative noob, it was the most exciting thing to happen to me so far. But the more I think about it, not sure how useful it will be with my play-style. I don’t plan on doing any sniping any time soon. I don’t shoot on sight. The only time I’m in the woods is running from town to town. Should I change into it when I’m in the woods, and then back to normal when I’m in a town? It seems like having one on just makes me a more tempting target. And does it really make me that much harder to spot in the woods, enough to offset how much more of an attractive target I am?

The other day I spawned on the beach and hadn't ran 100 yards when someone rode over on their ATV and killed me. For what, my band-aid? Who would think that's fun? An asshole. I'm a 40 year-old dude with an hour a day to play if I'm lucky. I fell in love with DayZ right away; then I started running into other players. But after I accepted assholes as part of the experience, I started having fun again. And after seven months of SWTOR, it's nice to have fun again. Plus, having lots of assholes helps make it seem all the more realistic.

New Players Important Information on Cheating

Considering all of the hacking and admin abuse, are combat logging or server hopping really that big of a deal?
