Hi all, Disclaimer: I know there are other threads like this, but each rig is unique (like a snowflake) and I'm simply hoping to get some pointers specific to my setup, or hear the experience of other people with the same/similar rig. I also understand that this is Early Access, that optimisation is nowhere near done, and I could simply just be out of favour with the DayZ Performance God unlike people of similar, or even worse rigs. Disclaimers out of the way - The nuts and bolts are that I get about 40-60 FPS in the wilderness, which is playable, but 15-30 FPS in cities and it's unplayable. I'm hoping to improve that. My rig is: CPU: i5-3570k @ 3.4GHz (not overclocked) RAM: 8GB DDR3 Corsair Vengeance (2x 4GB) GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 4GB (Gigabyte Windforce 3, Gaming G1 model) (not overclocked) I have dual-screen 1920x1080 (x2); one plays the game, the other has a website-based map open. I've noticed no improvement in performance by disabling the second monitor. I use Nvidia's "GeForce Experience" program which optimises the graphic settings of games so that they perform at their best based on my drivers (latest) and PC specs. I've noticed no noticeable increase in frame rate when playing 'all low' to the Nvidia 'optimised' settings. I've also heard that any settings 'Normal' and below then fall onto the CPU causing additional strain. The settings played at are: Resolution: 1920x1080 Texture Detail: Very High Texture Filtering: Very High Object Quality: High Terrain Quality: Very High Clouds: Normal Shadows Quality: Low Antialiasing: Disabled Alpha To Coverage: Disabled Edge Smoothing: FXX Very High HDR Quality: Low Post-process Quality: Disabled Bloom: 0 I have also followed all the advice given on the various reddit threads about gaining FPS. This particular article brings together every suggestion I've seen to date. I have not done Core Unparking, RAMdisk, Priority or Overclocking as I value my system stability over getting an unoptimised game to run better. So, my DayZ.profile is: sceneComplexity=750000; (auto-set by one of the graphic options) shadowZDistance=50; viewDistance=1800; preferredObjectViewDistance=1800; And my Launch Properties string is: -nosplash -noPause -noborder -cpuCount=4 -exThreads=4 -maxMex=8192 -maxvram=4096 I have every other program closed when playing except for Fraps which I use purely for screenshots and checking my FPS - I don't record videos or stream. I'm not sure what else I can do. Am I just unlucky? I see people with worse rigs having recorded YouTube videos at great FPS, or streaming on Twitch. My rig isn't poor - I got the GTX 970 before buying Shadows of Mordor, which I play on Ultra settings WITH the HD Texture Pack enabled at a smooth 60-70+ FPS and it murders the game. I don't notice any increase in FPS from the game using this card over the one it replaced, which was an ATI Radeon HD 5850 (Sapphire brand, 2GB). Can anyone offer any tried and tested solutions over what I've done to try and get more FPS out of my DayZ? I love the game and I'd love the play it more than I currently have, but the fact of the matter is it currently runs very poorly on my PC, and doesn't look good in the process either. Any and all help would be very much appreciated - I'll keep an eye on this thread. Thank you!

Hi Fluxley, I was using -exthreads=7 for the majority of the year until I found out my i5 actually only has 4 threads (http://ark.intel.com/products/65520) - also confirmed just now by CPU-Z. Not noticed any difference in performance between having set it as 7 or 4. What does -noLogs and -malloc=system do? I've not seen that in any of the guides.

Thanks for the replies so far guys - Fluxley I'll try your suggestion and beans you if it helps. It seems strange to me that popular YouTubers/Twitchers all have systems that allow them to play when everyone else is in the mire. When Rome 2 Total War was released, a chap called LionHeart had been doing videos about its development and when it released, he was streaming and YouTubing the game perfectly whilst everyone else was running it like dogpoo. I've yet to come across someone who's been passionate about DayZ Standalone, saying how they're going to stream videos, and then found they couldn't because it wouldn't work for them. Just very lucky, I guess? EDIT: Fluxley, I've tried your suggestion and here are my findings. I was using Xsplit Gamecaster rather than FRAPS to measure my FPS. Day time, on a server with 2/40 people, I went to the main strip of Cherno and ran run and down a length of the road, looking left and right, and ran back to my starting point. Then I repeated this with a different Object quality setting. High Object Quality (Nvidia Optimised): 16-24 FPS (impossible to play in a firefight) Low Object Quality (Fluxley Suggestion): 22-30 FPS (playable at points) I have however noticed that Object quality relates to the distance at which open doors on buildings replace the closed door texture - compared to 'High', 'Very Low' seriously reduces the range at which these textures are drawn, meaning that someone could be stood in the hallway of an open building with a clear shot at me, and I wouldn't be able to see them simply because having 'low' Object quality means they appear to be behind a closed door, to me. That said, I'll use low object quality for now given the slight bump in FPS, and just exercise caution with distant doors - I'd rather be able to play better 50% of the time with a slightly increased chance of death, than have it play poorly all the time; in which case I'm likely to die anyway. FIXED: Remove -skipIntro and -world=Empty from the launch options. Hi all, I've used some of the Set Launch Options suggested online for optimum performance, and one of them I think has removed the background on the main screen (I think it's '-world=Empty'). I'd like this back, and have tried removing this command but it doesn't seem to have triggered a change. Which command has done this so I can reverse it please?

Looks like it's -skipIntro that does it. Removing it means I don't have the BI logo but do have the DayZ logo, then it loads in the correct backgrounds; cheers.

Agreed. Unfortunately after removing the string it still doesn't load the main menu correctly. Any ideas?

Hi all, Friend and I are unable to figure out how to update this? We're playing through Steam of course, and have 'opt-in betas' selected. Our version on the main screen is 0.34.115182 and we can't find any 'force update' buttons anywhere; restarting Steam hasn't triggered and update either? FIXED: Go into beta options, turn off opt-in, and turn it back on again - this will force an update.

This confused me for a few days; thought it was an alt-tab bug that kept appearing. For anyone who finds themselves unable to jog; you probably Right-Clicked with your fists - though this doesn't change your animation, it will stop you jogging. Just right-click again!

Hi all, I just have a few questions to ask, as a returning player who last played in November last year. Is there any point trying to roleplay in DayZ these days, or is everyone so scared of one another that it's just shoot on sight, big PvP frenzy, and no trust? Wanted to see if I could be a Police type, try and reinstate law and order in this apocalyptic world! What exactly is DayZ epoch, and what makes it so popular? From what I've seen it's "we'll let people do and make wtf they want" and seems like it's lost the essence of DayZ? Why isn't DayZ 2017 more popular? I was pretty excited when I first heard about it; DayZ back to basics... Yet there's no official servers, only 3 working, and only 2 players in 1 of those 3 servers. Biiiig bummer. Has there been any massive changes since I left? I noticed some servers have a new UI; is that just for Vanilla DayZ, or just on some servers? Is DayZ vanilla worth returning to? I notice there's dozens of mods now, most of which don't seem popular. I worry that all these tid-bit mods will divide the community.Lastly, I live in the UK, and work terrible shifts; 2 earlies, 2 lates, 2 nights, then 4 days off - in the evenings, I have a girlfriend to appease. Is there anyone out there who plays UK daytime that wants to team up and maybe re-show me the ropes?

Hi all, I'm wanting to get started recording DayZ videos so I can look at starting my own small YouTube series, and other Let's Play videos, but I don't know what software to use. Whichever I use, it's important that it can capture multiple audio streams, i.e: The game (inc. in-game voices) 3rd party voices like TeamSpeak/Skype My own voice for commentary I've used FRAPS previously, but the FPS drop is devilish and so is the raw output file size. I have a secondary HDD to record onto with 750gb to spare, but 6 minutes of full-size 1920x1080 gameplay recording at 60fps took up 46gb. Also, the actual video file it has output seems to play at around 20fps (very noticeable) even though in-game whilst recording the counter was 45fps and running smoothly. I've given bandicam a quick try, but couldn't figure out for the life of me how to get it to record by 'clicking the target window'. I've given DxTory a quick try, but the settings are so complex? I took a quick video and it was very smooth whilst recording, but it only captured in-game sound and von, not my own microphone. Which program would you recommend, that would do what I need it to do, and why would you choose it over any other program? Just replying with your preferred program's name isn't too helpful. I need to rush off to work now so I'm hoping this thread can get some replies through the day and give me something to work with tomorrow morning. My next question would be compression/editing software, but until I can get some decent footage recorded that's not my main concern. I've recorded two sessions with FRAPS now and the output quality is superb but I'm really not happy with how it seems to limit my in-game framerate to 30fps when I play normally at 80+fps. It's kind of making me not enjoy the prospect of filming, because I have to play a really choppy game (with poor accuracy etc) in order to get good footage. And who wants to see high quality footage of someone who can't aim because of how laggy their game is that they're constantly getting killed? I've tried some of these alternatives and not got them to work properly. With so many people suggesting so many different programs each, I'm really struggling to find a high quality non-performance-hitting multi-audio channel enabled video recorder... Please help! =[

You've not read my post. MSI Afterburner can't record multiple sound channels.

As far as I'm aware, MSI is only really good for music videos due to problems recording audio. In any case, it's my understanding that it will only record one audio stream, i.e. either in-game sound, or your microphone only. Not fit for my requirements at least.

Thanks for your replies so far guys. 4L4N, I didn't render it no so this is probably the issue, in which case Fraps is very easy to use and does what I want it to do. When I get home Ill try recording at 30fps. I don't know about rendering up or down, all I know is I want 1080p option for my videos available when viewed on YouTube. Can halfsize accomodate that? Will this significantly reduce the size of raw recordings? Lastly, what editing software would you recommend? Thanks very much. ------- UPDATE: I've done some fiddling around, increased my DayZ settings and seem to be recording fine in FRAPS set to record at 30fps Full-size. In-game I'm 72fps pre-record, and anywhere between 30fps (sometimes judders) but mostly 60fps whilst recording. The 4 min raw output file is 10gb and plays flawlessly. What program(s) should I use for rendering/coding/editing? And do you render THEN edit, or edit raw and then render the whole thing? I see a lot of people mentioning Sony Vegas..

Hey guys, I'm a 23yo UK gamer with a headset and TS3 server looking for some English speaking mature buddies to play DayZ (pref Namelsk) with. I'm by no means new to the game, but have always played solo so it's been difficult for me to try and build vehicles etc. I'm wanting to experience collaborative teamplaying. Exactly my thoughts, but having read up on both weapons, a lot of people seem to prefer the better ironsights of the m1014 than the light of the 870

I've been having this issue too, but the only server hopping I've been doing is when I connect to a server and I'm stuck on waiting for host, or receiving, or 'character setup, please wait' and it's waiting for over a minute (loading off an SSD and it loads lightning quick when it actually works). I've tried dying to reset it twice but that's still not helped. My player ID is: 649985.

Getting the same thing. Every server, every time. Dying hasn't solved it.

Hi all, my name is James and I'm 23 from England, but in-game I go by Heskey. I have about a weeks experience playing DayZ but whilst waiting for friends to get the game I'm looking to team up with some other people. I'm no bandit, but I'm wary of others, having been shot in the back a couple of times by "friendlies". I have my own 20-man TeamSpeak 3 server that I'm more than willing to let people frequent if they want to team up together and do something a bit more exciting that looting the coast. I have a fair amount of firepower behind me now, and want to move onto raiding military/medical complexes for better loot and possibly put together a vehicle. I've been doing some solo, but it's a bit too risky for little reward without backup. Send me a PM if you speak English, aren't annoying, and want to game.
