    mod: close thread ty

Note that you can do the same trick using vegetation. You hide behind, let's say a bush, and then you use third person view to look around it. You only popup when you think the enemy is looking away or is in a bad position. In other words, third person view is cheating like hell. Since this is PvP, I use third person view whenever it's available to get an edge over the opponent. But I don't mind it at all when the server has it turned off. I actually prefer playing on servers where it's turned off, so that I don't have to worry about people cheating.

    [Legion] Sorting this all out

So much trouble to deal with this issue. So much drama. A PR person... countless of topics... and next, a whole forum section dedicated to this issue... I kid on that last one, of course... Unless... Anyway, you could've dealt with this issue ages ago by abolishing the kicking to make room for your own members. But you insist on kicking people... Why? Why not deal with the drama directly? Remove what is causing the issue. Get rid of the kicking. Start punishing members who get out of line, get rid of them if you have to. And do not attract any attention for a little while so that people forget... Problem solved, no more drama. Alternatively, get rid of the servers. In time, other people will fill up the empty hole, anyway.

    The TLDR survivor guide.

Ugh... This survival guide basically comes down to: Kill everyone you see. Warning shots are pointless. They have the same effect as aimed lethal shots, the other party will try to kill you for it. You are better off actually hitting the other guy with the first shot, but aim low, so not to kill him. That way you have a much higher chance of him trying to flee. Also, "stop only with your back to something solid" will most likely get you killed, since it's inevitable you'll run into a bad situation while trying to reach that something solid. Rushing is a bad idea. If you've truly played for a month and you really are only on your second character, then you've been using strategies that are not described in the original post...

Dedicated button for "Don`t shoot" sign

Sounds good! Adds to the atmosphere of the mod. Promotes teamwork. And generally it makes the whole teamwork thing a bit easier to do... Signed!
  5. What a coincidence, I am real too!

IF this was an actual game...

Preferably, game purchase. Definately not free to play, unless there's also an option to just buy the damn game and get it over with. Micro transactions are annoying as hell.
  7. Are you sure? I know that your thirst and hunger can increase up to the point of flashing red. But you are saying that you will pretty much instantly die after loggin in? I can't try it out myself because not playing this mod for more than a day is simply impossible for me...
  8. Sounds reasonable and fair. Good choice! ;)
  9. So... if I pay you money, do I get those kicking privileges as well? But seriously now, just because you pay money does not mean it is alright for you to kick people randomly. Sure, you guys spent real money, so you expect something in return. But the thing is that you chose to donate that money to the community. This is not your own private server. Rocket sort of dictates the rules, since he made this whole thing. He said himself that all servers should provide a similar experience to people. But if people get kicked randomly and without warning on the Legion server, then that means people get a different experience on the Legion server, a very negative experience even. This thread confirms that, as it tells us how the Legion guys make people feel and what sort of experience people get. Maybe you guys do not fully understand what impact you have on people when you kick them? Anyway, you should play with the community on the same level, as that is what Rocket wants. You should treat everybody the same, because that is only fair. However, if Rocket decides that people can get their own private servers, then you can do what the hell you want. Then, you do not have to hold back any longer. But until that day comes, you should hold back. And in my humble opinion, if you host an open, public server, it's wrong to discriminate people simply because they didn't pay you their money.

Ladders: The true scourge of DayZ

Never EVER climb a ladder while holding a pistol or you will most likely fall off. Equip a primary weapon and your chances of falling off the laddder will be reduced dramatically, but never elimated completely. It also depends on the ladder. Some ladders are more bugged than others. Note that the deadliest enemy in ArmA is a ladder, due to the inability to defend yourself against one. Whenever you go up a ladder, you are gambling with your life. If I had to choose between going UP a ladder leading to lots of loot, or going DOWN a ladder leading into a zombie horde, I'd choose the latter.

Food and water being used offline

@OP: Agreed. Personally, I think it's a bug and they will fix it. I mean... it has to be a bug, right?
  12. Well, here are my findings on the whole PvP thing. Being a bandit is less frustrating, more fun, and much easier to do. Unless something changes, I suspect more and more people will choose to go for the bandit's path. First of all, I have to point out that shooting zombies is not what the mod is about. Shooting zombies is even pointless most of the time because they respawn very quickly and you have very limited ammo (that is not to say that zombies are completely useless in this mod). So the focus of your activities lays elsewhere: Staying alive, looting and killing players. That's where the satisfaction of playing really comes from, that's why people keep playing. To have fun, it's pointless not to kill players because you will get frustrated by playing the good guy. At some point you will come across someone who will instantly kill you, which means that the time you spent on that character has gone to waste. You will need to start all over again with sneaking for hours on end through buildings in search for better gear. It is sort of frustrating and it happens a lot. If you do not want to get frustrated and if you want to have more fun, then you are better off killing players and grabbing their loot. That way, you drastically reduce the time you have to spend on finding loot. Then later on, you will get killed again because there are many bandits, so getting killed is inevitable. But because you didn't spend as much time in search for loot, it's not so bad to die because you can easily start over. You'll simply kill the next guy you come across and grab his loot. This results in a lot less frustration and more fun. What this means is that there's no reward for not killing players and it's ultimately less fun overal. But there is a huge reward for killing players. You get to kill someone and you get nice loot. Since there isn't really anything else to do in this mod, being a bandit is the most fun you can ever have. Yes, when playing the nice guy you can choose to work together with other players. But you can still do that even when you are a bandit. You can work together every now and then, but you can also do all the other stuff, like killing players. Also, note that teamwork is a pain due to lack of tools that facilitate effortless and effective teamwork, so it's much easier to go lone wolf or teamup with some buddies on TeamSpeak and alienate everybody else ingame. In the long run, being a bandit is more fun. Being a good guy will simply piss you off at some point, while being a bandit will allow you to experience everything this mod has to offer, which is basically killing people and getting better loot. And we play games for fun, so it's sort of obvious what most of us will be doing in the long run... Unless, we get an incentive to be a good guy. There are already many suggestions what this incentive could be, so I won't go into that.

    A question about infected speeds

I don't mind the speed, the zigzagging is the annoying part. But if we are going all realism here. I don't think a normal human being could run that fast without messing up the body somehow. A normal human body is not made for such speed. It's probably physically impossible to run that fast. But from a scifi perspective. The zombies have been mutated, which is why they move so fast. In other words, scifi is the answer to everything.
  15. Let's agree on some common, yet simple guidelines, so that we, the civilized survivors, do not end up shooting each other needlessly. Some of these rules come from our old everyday lives because they make sense even in this new apocalyptic world. The point of these guidelines is to make it better known to other survivors what your INITIAL intention is: i.e. shoot or not to shoot, for that is the question we all have when meeting other survivors. These rules will help us to make that decision with little effort. The rules are minimized and grouped in a cohesive manner, so that we can memorize and look them up easily. Note that these rules only help with the initial contact, they do NOT protect you from getting stabbed in the back later on. To avoid betrayal, rules won't help, you must trust your instincts and your gut. If you have any suggestions, please post them below! But note that we must keep things simple because not all of us are lawyers who can memorize whole text books! If you agree with these rules, say so below! The survivor code of conduct 1. Do not aim your weapon at another survivor, unless you intend to kill him. If another survivor sees you aiming your weapon at him, he may shoot you in self defense. 2. In response to rule number 1: Always lower your weapon. In the case of pistols (which cannot be lowered), aim away from the other persons, don't look at them directly or you will be aiming at them. 3. Do not run towards somebody you do not know while you are wielding a weapon. If the other person sees you running towards him, and if you can see him, and if you are wielding a weapon, he may shoot you in self defense. 4. In response to rule number 3: Approach people with caution (stick with solid cover). Keep your distance until they can see you. Then perform a greeting which will let them know that you do not intend hostilities, e.g. lower your weapon, salute them when they lower their weapon (you may apply any other forms of greetings). After the greeting, you may leave your cover and approach each other, but keep in mind the previous rules, mainly the "do not aim your weapon at someone" rule. 5. In response to rule number 4: Distrust anyone you do not know, for they may stab you in the back, even after having greeted you. 6. Always apply the above guidelines, so that to decrease the possibility of accidental murder when two civilized survivors meet each other, and also to increase the chances of finding murderers amongst our midst.

    Survivor code of conduct

Which is pointless, because if the other guy shoots, you won't be able to react, anyway, because you will be dead! Therefore, stay behind cover, slowly move from behind the cover with your weapon lowered, to let it known you do not intend to shoot them. If you see their weapon raised, you stay behind cover. Raised weapon = Pow Pow time!

    My thoughts on the mod

I agree that the PvE is not engaging enough. But I guess this is because the mod is still in Alpha. I don't know what the roadmap is for this mod but I assume they will add more content to the PvE side of the mod. I also agree that it's too hard to play in a team. I wish local voice would work, it would make things much easier.
