How do you Pronounce the name?

Day Zed. But most people I speak to prefer to call it Days, with a Z sound at the end, like Daze. It's easier to pronounce, I guess.

    Player count per server plans

Well... 100 players means there will be a player in every square kilometer. A kilomer can be traversed on foot in about 3 minutes. So, wherever you go, you'll find other players. Personally, I wouldn't enjoy that very much. I don't want to see servers with more than 50 players, and I think 50 players is already too much, too crowded.

Flashlights and why you should start with them

The flashlight is pointless because you have to sacrifice the pistol for it. For an experienced player, it's simply not worth carrying one. It's even worse for somebody who has just spawned because they have to remove their only weapon to be able to equip the flashlight, leaving them literally defenseless.
  4. I checked the files. The VSS is not in the looting tables. Neither is the VSS ammo. The VSS is definately not a DayZ weapon, since there's no reference to it in any of the files. So it's definately a weapon that entered the game through nefarious means. Know that people have been banned for carrying "unauthorized" weapons that have been spawned by cheaters. So use the VSS at your own risk. You have been warned!

The Official Unofficial Bandit Removal Petition

I don't think you got my point. I think that if you remove the bandit system without putting anything else in its place, the game will turn into a full out deathmatch. See above for my reply to Goose: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=2089&pid=21906#pid21906 And see this reply by Zero477: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=2089&pid=21936#pid21936

The Official Unofficial Bandit Removal Petition

I get your point. But the reason why you call it broken is the reason I say the bandit system should stay until something better comes along. I say the bandit system is half working. I kill bandits very often because the worst bandits are wearing the bandit skin. And if you check the stats, most people are not wearing the bandit skin. These two things are facts. So what this means is that when you see a lone guy wearing a bandit skin, there's a high chance he's an actual bandit, who's after your beans. Knowing that, I can treat people with the regular skin normally. Normally, as in not shooting them on sight. This is because the risk of running into a bandit, who's wearing a regular skin, is much, MUCH smaller. Now, I know this isn't perfect. But it's better to shoot all bandits on sight than being forced to shoot ALL players on sight due to high risk of getting murdered at any point you meet another player. So, like I said before, I think you need to come up with an alternative before getting rid of the current bandit system.

The Official Unofficial Bandit Removal Petition

The bandit system isn't perfect, it has faults. But it does allow us to see who we need to be extra careful with. I think we need something like that in a game where you can kill without any serious penalty. At least the bandit skin is some sort of penalty. If you want to keep this mod realistic, there has to be some kind of repercussion for banditry. Removing the bandit system altogether, without putting an alternative in place, will simply make the mod worse because it will give free reign to bandits. And then Chernarus will turn into a warzone, with zombies thrown into the mix just for the hell of it. Then we might as well go back to regular ArmA. So I think you shouldn't remove the bandit system without coming up with an alternative. We need SOMETHING to keep the bandits in line, so that they don't screw up what this mod is all about.

    DayZ Update 1.5.6

I think the loot and zombies respawn too fast. It only takes a couple of minutes. So by the time you are done looting the place, you go back and there's new loot and zombies. I don't want like half an hour delay before things respawn, but right now it seems to be like 5 minutes, which is too fast in my opinion.

    Map is too big?

Very detailed post... and yet it can be debunked with a single sentence: Go to known travel routes or popular towns, in the north or south, and you'll find an abundance of people. Conclusion: It's currently easy to find people. So what you said is not true. As an additional counter argument. If you make the map any smaller, you'll turn the map into what is happening right now at Cherno/Electro. The game will be ruined, as it will become a regular PvP game. Also, putting this mod on Takistan will turn the game into a sniper nightmare. It will completely ruin the atmosphere of this mod. It's a very bad idea!

    [GUIDE] Gear/Inventory

If there's an item close to the backpack, you might not get the option to pick up the backpack. You'll need to pick up the items first (basically, reposition the items) and then you'll get the action to pick up the backpack.

    Unofficial wiki: www.dayzwiki.com

A suggestion. Don't quote Wikipedia, because it's useless! Only write down info that is relevant to the game. The Wiki is supposed to help players with the ingame elements.
  12. You failed to include the reason why it's not an exploit or a cheat. You didn't explain why it's not cheating when you use 3rd person view to look around obstacles and corners, while staying hidden behind the obstacle or corner.

    Quick question

    1. Get ArmA 2 for cheap and play the mod now. 2. Wait a couple of months and buy ArmA 3 for full retail price. Wait some more until the DayZ mod is ported over to the new game. And then play the mod, many months from now. 3. All of the above. Those are your options.

Are people more hostile, or friendly?

Maybe it's not as bad as we think. I mean, people do form groups, communities even. I see it happening more and more often. Three up to six guys, roaming the area. And the groups are slowly getting bigger and bigger. So it's not like it's a total deathmatch. The thing is that you have to join a permanent group of people and stick with them. Going solo is suicide. You go solo and you die quickly. You team up and you survive. It's quite similar to real life. And it makes sense, right? So, join a community/clan if you want to survive.

Low/mid tier loot in military spawns?

I once only found tin cans on the NW airfield. It's all random... very, very random.
  16. Hardly. This mod is the only one that does PvP on a large scale properly. Actually, this mod is probably the only zombie mod that has such a heavy focus on PvP, adding a whole new gameplay layer to a survival game that no one has experienced before. Then there are the survival aspects, which are unique to this mod. Persistency of the player characters and ingame objects means the players can transform the ingame world. This mod has turned the game pretty much into a MMO, utilizing all the advantages of a MMO. I haven't seen any other mod do all, if any, of the above.
  17. But if I'm in a group with 6 guys who I can always trust, why should I risk my life and not shoot some random guy? A random guy who has nothing to offer me while he's alive. Plus, he might shoot me if I don't shoot first.

A perfect example of anti fun banditry

Next time you meet someone at gunpoint, you shoot or you run like hell. Ask them from a safe distance if they are friendly or not.
  19. BlackAlpha

    Is this a bug?

Yes, it's a bug. To fix it, wait for the hour glass to finish. If you immediately go unconscious afterwards but don't see the hour glass, leave the server, rejoin, and try again.

Seeing myself on my own map (with GPS)

Like Trauma said, it's a difficulty setting. Basically, a server setting.
  21. Yesterday, on EU8, I ran through 5 towns. There were no zombies whatsoever. I only found backpacks and body bags with no loot inside. Then I joined UK1. I entered Stary Sobor. A couple of zombies spawned and there was a little bit more loot, but most looting spawns at the tents were completely empty. Clearly, something was wrong.
  22. The game practically wants us to kill other people. Why? There's a high chance of getting shot by people you come across. When you are in a group, you do not "need" other random people. Shooting other people gives the most rewards, no penalties, and it's the most fun. If you are alone, I can understand why you'd want to wait it out, in the hopes that the other guy is friendly and wants to team up. But if you are in a group already, especially in a group on Team Speak, the risk is too high not to shoot other people that you do not know. If you are in a group with people you know, there's no reason to team up with other random people, who could potentially shoot you. Like I said before, there's a very high risk of getting shot. So it's better to kill everyone you come across, because they will most likely try to kill you. If you are in a group, killing other people isn't really a problem, anyway. Also, the game only seems to reward the bandits, not the innocent survivors. There's no penalty for killing other players, only rewards. On the other hand, there are many penalties for not shooting players, and little to no reward. Besides, shooting players is fun and there's little else to do in this mod. For some people, that's reason enough to turn this mod into a deathmatch. So really, there's little reason not to shoot other players. Maybe if the game gave us a reason not to kill everyone we come across... But until then, the game is setup in such a way that it promotes banditry, so expect others to kill you on sight.
