  1. Also, the ArmA2 AI is one of the few AI's that does not rely on a series of preconfigured scripts to do basic things. You can place a squad anywhere and the AI will do all the work when the fighting starts. And with mods, the AI is probably the most complex of any video game. But we don't really need a good AI in this mod. So this AI talk is pointless... Still, all the other parts of the game are very complex as well. The ballistics of the weapons, all the weapons handle very realistically. There's an actual bullet rise and drop, like in real life. You can zero in weapons, you can properly use mill dots to calculate the distance, to aim properly and one hit kill from hundreds of meters. The player movement is realistic, yet it feels very natural and is easy to get used to. You can lower your weapon and move your head around to lower your signature or look around while on the run. The map is GIGANTIC and very detailed, and is not very taxing performance wise. The engine handles such scenarios, as we have now, very well (hundreds of AI, 50 players, on a huge map). Some games would consider that to be MMO like. The game is very moddable, just look at this mod and everything it does. I could go on and on. So tell us, you people who want a more "robust" engine. What other engine is more robust and more suitable for a zombie mod like this one? It sounds to me that when BIS made this engine, they secretly were hoping someone would make a zombie mod for it... BIS Mission Statement 1998: "OK people, we are going to make a realistic FPS game, at such a scale that the world has never seen before. There will need to be realistic weapon balistics. Realistic player movement. The engine must be able to seamlessly support a huge, realistic looking map with hundreds of AI. And it must be moddable like hell... We will lay out the groundworks for the most realistic zombie game ever! But let no one know of that, because the world is not ready yet, so for now we will say it's about America fighting Russia and all of that... But in time... Muhahahahahahahaha!"

    The Running Man

It's actually done through VOIP, not scripts.

    I found a Radio

Still, it's a nice proof of concept of what the devs could add into the game. I think Rocket has a similar idea, he wants to add small pieces of information for players to find. A number station transmission like this one would be pretty cool. Maybe make a complex puzzle out of it that leads somewhere.

    The Running Man

It's probably just people playing sounds over the ingame VOIP. I used to hear similar sounds a lot, but not anymore since I've turned off the VON volume.

    I found a Radio

That is WAAAAAAAAAAAY too distorted to make out what it says. Our imagination will go wild with it and people will come up with all sorts of theories of what it could be saying behind all that white noise. All these theories will most likely be wrong because they aren't based on anything solid, they will be based on a distorted sound that can never be repaired by computers, let alone by a human being's imagination. By the way, apart from the OP, why has no one else heard the so called number station transmission ingame? ;)

    How to join friends easy

Rocket said that spamming respawn causes a lot of strain on the servers, so it's best to avoid doing that.

    Average Life Expectancy

    The hours don't show.
  8. You could very easily make something that if you spawn in and you are inside a zone (let's say inside a town), you will be teleported to the closest position outside of this zone, to the edges of the town. This means that if you aren't careful when loggin off, you can spawn in open ground. However, you could simply run inside the nearest forest before logging off to avoid that problem.

    Rocket launcher is underpowered

No. It's also a HEAT round' date=' specialised for penetrating armoured vehicles. [/quote'] There are also HE rounds which are more grenade like. That is the round I was thinking of. Pretty much the only rocket launcher like round that is used for anti personnel that I know of, but I don't know that much. The RPG mostly uses AT warheads. Just like the AT4, it's not really meant to be fired against infantry. But the RPG7 (and more modern versions of that type) does have a special fragmentation warhead, which is used to kill infantry. There are actually many rocket launchers that have anti personnel warheads (HE/Fragmentation). But the RPG7 would fit the setting (ex soviet country) the best. I'm just not sure if vanilla ArmA2 has the anti personnel warhead for the RPG7.

    M1911 vs. Revolver

Keep in mind that the revolver cannot use M1911 ammo due to the mag size. A colt mag is 7 bullets. A revolver should not carry more than 6 for realism reasons. So a revolver cannot use the colt mag. It can work the other way around. The colt pistol can use a revolver mag.

    M1911 vs. Revolver

They could make the colt pistol fire the revolver mags, though. This would, however, result in balancing issues, because the colt pistol ammo would be very abundant, while that pistol is the most powerful pistol in this game. The .45 ammo spawn chance would have to be reduced to compensate for the balancing issue.

    Changes to the crossbow?

I guess they made it the way it is now so that you can pick up the bolt after you've fired it. If the "magazine" would consist out of multiple "bolts", you'd gain a full magazine (multiple bolts) when you'd pick up a single bolt that you've fired.

    Dev may stop?

Damn, that sucks! Maybe if we send him some Pepsi he'll continue the development. Does anyone know his address?

Am I the luckiest newbie player?

There used to be one, but currently, there's no moon. Assuming all the servers follow real life dates, the moon will be back in about 10 days. Then you'll be able to see again during night. As for the "evolution". Maybe we simply haven't gotten to that point yet. So far we've had: 1. Everyone works together to fight off the zombie apocalypse. 2. People start to attack each other. No one trusts each other. People go lone wolf. 3. People start forming small groups. They only trust people inside their group. Outsiders are greeted with hostility. Now we have to wait and see what the next step brings. But I doubt the next step will bring us a trading infrastructure. Right now, pretty much no one practices trading. So we will first need to "invent" trading, and maybe after that we'll figure out how to create a trading infrastructure. But that might not happen until the tents/vehicles stop disappearing with every new patch and server restart. Once that has been solved, we'll be able to properly store items. That means trading will become a feasible option, as you'll be able to store the things you buy/sell. Then the fortifications must stop disappearing, so that we'll be able to create proper bases/camps. Then we'll be able to setup safe areas, and possibly trading areas as well.

Am I the luckiest newbie player?

If you are near the coast, you have not yet survived the zombie apocalypse. If you stay near the coastline, you will soon get shot by another player because there are many bandits there that are hunting naive players like yourself, who think it's safe near the coastline. Your chances of survival near the coast are quite slim. So, if you want to survive, get away from the coastline, go inland. Your next step would be to find better loot and join a group of people. I recommend joining a community, so that you don't have to worry about getting stabbed in the back. Some people don't seem to realize the truth, so here it is. This is what is actually going on when you start at the coast:

Arma2's big rise to the top.

Yes and no. Steam can force games to go on sale. They do this for strategic reasons, like during the christmas sales, to boost the reputation of Steam. But the game devs may also decide themselves to go on a sale during other periods of the year.
  17. Interdiction alone doesn't work. You need prevention as well. You have to balance the two... But, what the hell does this have to do with this game? Is it an exuse to shoot everyone on sight like in real life?
  18. I think it takes away from the atmosphere of the mod. Fighting other groups is fun due to the dynamic and unknown nature of the game. The thing that makes the game so interesting is that it feels like you are playing in a living breathing world and you never know what you will come across. When you turn the game into a team deathmatch, it won't be as exciting to fight other groups or raid their camps, because the game will become a lot more static and less mysterious. But that's just my opinion.

    Rocket launcher is underpowered

AT4 rockets do hardly any area of effect damage. So they are basically worthless against personnel. Shooting them at infantry only serves as a means to suppress them.

    bounty hunters

Plenty of people and communities shoot bandits on sight. I'm not sure what a "bounty hunter" would do differently??
