Hell yeah, neighbour! -
Who cares about all the fighting, blood spilling and killing. What this game really needs is an in-game portable television. Found exclusively in select supermarkets, this handy-to-carry portable television is a mans (and womans!) dream come true. Select from a wide variety of channels, providing it's channel 0, and watch in excitement as DayZ's reality channel shows men, woman and zeds around Chernarus carrying out day-to-day tasks. Watch as people scrap over the infamous Huey, only to bollocks up the take-off and career off into the nearby treeline! Brace yourself as a distant sniper misses a shot, and screams as he flails off into the forest; a bazillion hungry, bloodthirsty undead ensue in chase! Laugh your socks off, as the local dirt-bike race featuring a team of two and a hakcer ensues through Vybor! A dramatic ending; as the team of two collide with a misplaced washing machine in the middle of the road, and career off into a nearby bus stop! Awch! Bore yourself to death, as you endulge yourself in day-time-TV; featuring Homes Under The Fireaxe, where local Zeds visit auctions in a bid to find cheap homes to renovate and make a killing from renting! Burst out with emotions, as two lovers do the sloppy thing, only to get teleported to the centre of Chernarus and killed with a falling Nuke... Oh the tragedy! New and exclusive offer! Pick up your CCTV kit today (allowing you to keep a close eye on the kids at home, and make sure they aint nabbin' your beans!), and receive exclusive footage of two Zeds fighting over an old shoe! So all you haters, ragers, whiners and killers-- Stop by your local deserted supermarket today and pick up your handy-to-carry portable TV! You can have any colour you want! As long as it's luminous orange!

EVE concepts in DayZ (solution to horizontal load balancing)
Nasias replied to ShaddnArakh's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Not necessarily. If there are certain areas with a high density of high quality loot, then there will constantly be players there fighting over it. It was the same for technetium moons on EVE Online, only Alliances that set up heavy footholds and had a base of thounsands of players dominated them. -
Ladies and gentlemen, we have a biter.

If you don't like getting killed by players, then I'd suggest that you move to a low population server. This game is about survival of the fittest. It's only natural that people who are in a better position than you are going to take advantage of you, just because they can. In modern society, people hold back from crime because of the fear of punishment by the law. Not everyone is like that, though, and people have moral standings, but not everyone does. In early society, people held back from crime and immoral desicions by the introduction of religion which acted as both a way of faith and a way to instill fear into those who disobeyed the "laws" of that religion, by punishment in the afterlife of either going to heaven or hell. What is there in the DayZ society to prevent this? What would make sense, in a realistic perspective, to prevent people from doing the "wrong" things? Nice guys get trampled on.

EVE concepts in DayZ (solution to horizontal load balancing)

It would probably make sense to refer to EVE's "single server" as a Realm. The Realm is powered by a vast number of high-end servers, and to get where EVE is right now-- CCP engineers have done years of research and tinkering with their set up, with vast numbers of usage figures and a lot of technical data, obtained from people playing the game. The technical aspects of having one big, huge realm for DayZ would not only be extreamly expensive and would take years to even get near to perfection, but do you honestly think that having hundreds of thousands of people running around together in the same Realm feels post-apocalyptic? Not really. You currently play amongst a relatively small number of players, which adds to the atmosphere of the fact that there could or could not be someone watching you right now. If everyone is mashed into one realm, you'll see people running around constantly, and more than likely there will be gun-fights everywhere. EVE works, because it's technically not post-apocalyptic, it's a thriving galaxy decorated with immortal capsuleers. DayZ is, from what I understand, meant to be post zombie apocalypse, not pre apocalypse or mid apocalypse. -
Hello, you can't host a DayZ LAN server. Have a look at these two threads for more information: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/55657-start-here-a-beginners-guide-to-dayz-servers-and-administration/ http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/62195-server-hosting-rules/

Hacked weapons and players : A public service
Nasias replied to tandwan's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
That's incorrect. I manage the banking for where I work, and every so often there's a counterfeit bank note in with the notes that are to be banked. If a note is found to be fake, then it's confiscated. If you try to spend a fake note somewhere and they detect that it's fake, it's confiscated also. -

As much as this would probably never make it into the game, that's actually pretty funny to think about xD

Choose between restart with nothing or with our stuff

I'm sure the whole fact that you start on a beach is because you were washed up on the shoreline, for some reason or another-- Starting with the gear you previously had; not only makes no sense-- because of the fact that you're technically playing as a different person, but just completely negates the fear you have of getting killed. There's a reason you get a rush out of engaging someone in a gunfight, or kill someone in DayZ, and a reason why PVP in World of Warcraft makes you want to tear your eyes out because of sheer boredom. -
And this is a typical example of something the community managers could take care of; The Developers of DayZ would inform the community managers of what to expect in the coming few days, information on patches they are working on and what sort of features or fixes they should expect, and the current storm of anger that people are expressing because of lack of communications would simply go away.
-
People getting pissed at changes is unavoidable, but perhapps a few forum members can apply to become community managers and charge themselves with providing information to and from the developers. Obviously these members will need to have thick skin, but I think it's a very good step in the right direction. Community managers can do the developers a favour of highlighting key improvements from suggestions and pass them on perhapps weekly or twice a week to the development team, and the development team can pass on information to the community managers once or twice a week, regarding things they are working on and have completed, and when things are expected to be released. After all, people like to think that their ideas are heared, and not just getting buried in the soot. And people like to know what's happening, not just have a suprise when things are released.

I'm sure there are plenty of mature people out there who are willing to establish a connection between the DayZ team and the community, and report back to everyone in regards to what's currently in the making and what they can expect. The worst thing you can do when developing something that becomes very popular, is to lack the required communication between developer and player base. Why not have someone, or a handful of people represent the developers and be the ones answering the questions that the community throwes at them? It's better to have some questions answered regularly than everyones questions appear as if they're falling on deaf ears.
