I was going to reply with this to the other DMR thread that's on the first page at the time of writing this, but isntead I decided to make a fresh thread for it as I'm hoping it will be of more help and more easily found this way. I would first like to say I didn't intend to spread these numbers online only for the reason that I'm not anyway trained nor have any real experience nor have I the know-how related to zeroing weapons. These figures are purely tested out case by case, moving 25 meters back and forth on the North Western Airport using the ArmA 2 In-game editor. I tested each range, moving back and forth until I found a spot where I could lay a headshot precisely and repeatedly using the mil-dots aimed at the head. Be mindful the mil-dot ranges and the range-finding figures are both approximates and not factual. Having said that tho, they are completely recreatable and are reliable. I've been playing with these figures glued on the sides of my screen with post-its for a long time and they've served me well. My team even asks me for these figures on VOIP when they're scoping out people themselves and have yet to complain about a miss. There will be a youtube video of my testing, yes I frapsed the whole thing to prove these numbers. So first off I'd like to get this out of the way; the DMR is zeroed at 300 flat when fully zoomed. Trust me. Yes the wiki is wrong. Here are the mil-dot ranges. They obviously vary with your level of zoom so here are both unzoomed and fully zoomed (but nothing in between). unzoomed: 0. mil-dot 175 meters 1. mil-dot 400 meters 2. mil-dot 600 meters 3. mil-dot 800 meters 4. mil-dot about 935 (bit inaccurate due to target size at this range) fully zoomed: 0. mil-dot 300 meters 1. mil-dot 425 meters 2. mil-dot 500 meters 3. mil-dot 575 meters 4. mil-dot 650 meters Range finding lists I tested with hand-eye coordinated measuring using the scope: Mil-dot height by leveling the crosshair horizontal line just under targets feet: Standing / Crouched / Prone Fully zoomed: 7.0 / 5.3 / 2.2 = 250 meters 8.0 / 4.5 / 1.7 = 300 meters 5.5 / 4.0 / 1.5 = 350 meters 4.8 / 3.5 / 1.4 = 400 meters 4.2 / 3.1 / 1.3 = 450 meters 4.0 / 2.9 / 1.2 = 500 meters 3.6 / 2.6 / 1.1 = 550 meters 3.4 / 2.2 / 1.0 = 600 meters 3.0 / 2.1 / 0.9 = 650 meters 2.8 / 2.0 / 0.8 = 700 meters 2.5 / 1.9 / 0.7 = 750 meters 2.2 / 1.7 / 0.6 = 800 meters Unzoomed: 4.6 / 3.2 / 1.2 = 150 meters 3.5 / 2.4 / 1.0 = 200 meters 2.9 / 2.0 / 0.9 = 250 meters 2.1 / 1.6 / 0.7 = 300 meters 1.9 / 1.2 / 0.5 = 350 meters 1.7 / 1.1 / 0.4 = 400 meters 1.5 / 1.0 / 0.3 = 450 meters 1.2 / 0.9 / 0.2 = 500 meters Hope they're of use to you. Happy hunting!

So I've been playing for a bit over a month and my old 5 man crew have all lost interest to the mod. I however think I have more to give. Us 5 have seen it all done it all and those times are now behind and long gone. What is left is extensive knowledge of mechanics, bugs, tactics, "do"s and "don't"s, locations of interest etc etc. I have a one man camp set up at a good hunting location and I run 2 characters simultaneously for my own comfort and tactics. As such I have some gear piled up I'd prefer to give out to buds instead of having people steal em from my tent sooner or later. I already offed one bastard eating from my tent today. Lucky I was 5 meters away in a bush looking the other way, and he didn't have the table manners to eat quietly. Well anyway, ideally you are a person from the UK with a friend or two (or otherwise a team with good spoken english) and you're just starting the game or have been playing for a few days. I'm 24 myself so I'd expect you to at least not be a total 14 year old cunt screaming "LOL OMFG WAAH!" I would like to have you as mates running around the map and doing stuff. I can and will mentor you about anything you want to know and advice you on tactics and the dos and donts of the game. I'll even supply you with gear to get you started if you so prefer. I'm from Finland myself (btw finnish people need not apply, I hate you guys :sleepy:) and that's gmt +1/2. I play quite a lot during the day and evening and even night so I'm usually always there for grouping up. My steam nick is Robopon, you are free to add me as you please, but for some strange reason invites sent to me don't always come through so I would prefer you PM me your steam nick and I'll get you added. Just works better that way. Wouldn't hurt if you told something about yourself in the PM. Oh and having a mic is necessary. I wont be bothered to team up with people who I need to stop and write to when real time tactics are needed. I prefer using Steam VOIP myself but if your group has Skype it should be no problem. I hope to hear from you! EDIT: Anyone for the states or that side of the puddle need not apply. I have the utmost respect for american players but there is way too much of a time zone difference between you guys and me. It wouldn't be efficient team play, sorry! So EU folks only.

Looking for a couple to few padawans
Daddy'o replied to Daddy'o's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Bumbity. Thanks for all the replies from the American players but sadly I've had to reject you all because of TZ differences. EU folks you will find your posts replied to. Also, still looking. -
So now we finally got that ridiculous out-of-bounds stashing out of the way. Now vehicles will finally be around the map. However as we all know, no matter which server and which corner or forest you hide stuff, people will walk close to there on a pretty much daily basis. A parked white off-road truck, or a red civilian car and the like stand out screaming in the forest, people can see these from 2 miles away even when tucked behind trees. I propose now addition of camo-nets that are used in real life situations as well. Something that blends with the surrounding forest and does much to hide the original color of the vehicle. Thoughts?

1. You can enter some buildings, not all. 2. You can open some doors, not all. 3. You use hatchet as a weapon by opening your inventory and right clicking the hatchet icon and clicking "remove from toolbelt" 4. you bandage yourself the same way by clicking bandage in your inventory and clicking bandage yourself from the box. 5. The game is blurry because your 3d resolution is set to different than your normal resolution. Put them to the same resolution and the blurryness will disappear. 6. There is no point to this game. It's a sandbox. Make your own fun.

Huey spawns are disabled. However, if you have a chopper before the spawns were disabled, they're still there and usable. OP found a very old chopper.

Playing with friends = good for the community?
Daddy'o replied to bad_mojo (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I fully understand what you're saying and I would agree that it would be a healthy thing for the community of DayZ as a whole if there were no option to use external communication or have mates play as mates. You would have to band together and form ties from people you encounter. Make do with what you have. Positive side is pvp would be lessened, and a more realistic scenario would emerge. However the negative impact would outweigh the positive side, which is the pain obvious thing. People prefer to play with their mates. Have fun playing an enjoyable game with your buds and have a good laugh you can talk about later in real life. Without being able to do this, peoples interest to the game overall would degrade much faster. I'm personally at one month mark now I think and my interest is waning pretty fast. All my mates have already stopped playing, irl ones as well as the ones I met in-game. I would only assume that would happen even faster if we couldn't play together reliably. -
Well that's true. I agree that making the game harder and guns and ammo especially way rarer would promote team play and reduce the pvp element of the game. However it would also diminish the game itself. Having weapons and ammo as rare as hell would then make the game pretty dull since what is there to do then? Run around weaponless, meeting other people who you don't really have to be afraid of because they can't hurt you because they don't either want to waste ammo or don't have weapons or that said ammo. Sure you would need to team up with people in order to survive, but then, surviving from zombies and the very rare occasion of a person wanting to kill you isn't really that much fun is it? I'm not saying it wouldn't be for some people, but I'm sure you can understand that I'm not completely full of shit when I say most people like this game BECAUSE they have weapons and ammo. I like this game for that reason as well. It's just that shooting zombies is boring as hell. Out smarting and outgunning people is fun :D

How big is your group and what loot have you got?
Daddy'o replied to miragexl's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Oh no man you get me wrong. We were never off the map and out of bounds. None of us supported that style of play. If you look at the map, find the NE airport. See the radio mast marked on the north east hill? Directly 1.5km or abouts north of that, in a straight line, there is a round hole in the forest. That was our camp site. It was completely untouched for 3 weeks. Then at the same day about 2 weeks ago, our camp was found and vehicles blown up. The vehicles were hidden even better than the camp itself but not out of bounds either. -
Whoa man, high horse and all that. Chill and calm down a bit. You talk a lot about human nature and what people would do in real life and you seem to talk for the entire mass of normal and intelligent people. Well fine. But if you're of so high intelligence it shouldn't be too hard to understand that while Rocket prefers to call this an anti-game, it's still is a game for most people. Games are played for fun. Now I ask you this, why do people play games? I would answer, for fun and entertainment. How long will you be entertained by crawling around and shooting mindless badly AI controlled uninteresting zombies? I would answer not very long. What do you do when you have the rarest weapons, ammo and all the food and medical supplies you can carry? What's there left to strive for? When zombies won't give you adrenaline and fun anymore? Answer is the same as most people who have played longer than a week have already found out. It's meeting people. Player versus player. Surviving an encounter with someone you don't know, someone whose motives or intentions you don't know. Your heart starts racing. Your palms start to sweat. Does he have better stuff than I do? Would he give me some if I asked? Hell no. Why would he? Should I just take em?Can I kill him with one shot? What are my chances? Does he have mates? Will I aggro zombies if I shoot him... fuck it he's leaving! FIRE! Now THAT is why this game is so fun and popular. Not because "oh hi! Wanna team up? there's some zombies we could go and crawl around!".

Better to play in the Dark than the Light!
Daddy'o replied to joe.gaming890@hotmail.co.uk's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'll agree night time is way better when they change it to be a bit less dark (so that you can see to move around) AND when they lessen the L85A2 drop rate from heli crashes. Their amounts have exploded in to ridiculous numbers in the past 2 weeks. Everyone and their dog has a thermal weapon now. I have 3 myself. -
How big is your group and what loot have you got?
Daddy'o replied to miragexl's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Anyone who stumbles upon your vehicles will be a happy camper... Or should I say would have been. We always kept our tents and vehicles at seperate locations so that if they found our camp they wouldn't have an easy way to take everything, or if they found our vehicles they wound find our stuff. You're kind enough to already have everything in the vehicle for anyone who finds it :D -
I understand you, the guy above me, but you know why it doesn't work like that? Why don't people work together to survive? Because they don't need to. You can get everything you need to in order to survive way easier and safer by killing a player you see. Chances are he has tools you don't, he has food collected, he has a better weapon than you do, more ammo than you, bigger bag. Why should you team up with him, and possibly risk that he wants to see what you're carrying with you? Many people make the easier choice to just shoot the person and make his stuff their own. It's just easier. You don't need anyone to help you survive. You can do it fine by yourself. Don't ever even need to go and loot a town. Hell my other character has been surviving off dead players for a week now, haven't even been within 700 meters to a town. IF surviving was harder, if you ACTUALLY needed other peoples help to survive, IF towns had SOMETHING that you couldn't get by shooting other players, THEN it might be like you describe. Currently though, there's no point working together with no one in order to survive.

Daddy'o replied to miragexl's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Cuz nowdays I seem to be the only one left of my squad who still likes spending time with DayZ, I'll roll back 2 weeks. 5 man team. 10+ tents 1.5km north of NEA. +20 automatic weapons, +20 blood bags and other medical supplies, NVGs, some rarer snipers like M107 and AS50 and a couple of machine guns. Food and water to last for weeks. 3 ATVs, 2 off-road pickup trucks, UAZ, Bus and a red civilian car. Nowdays? Just me, no vehicles, couple blood bags, 1 tent at an overlook position well hidden, a cold camp fire where no stories are shared. Just a lonely man in a ghillie, sitting in a bush close to his tent with an AS50 leaning on his shoulder and 2x .50 cals in the tent with a couple thermal guns to keep em company. It's cold, lonely and miserable. What happened to the good old day(s/z). Any possible company and feeling of social belonging is ended by a single bullet from my rifle, beckoned by the ever darkening icons of thirst and hunger. Who will save me from my fate? -
How the hell do you fail an observational experiment? :D The point was to experiment what people would do with the scenario given. This is what people would do with this scenario. It's isn't a failure. It's human nature (in-game).

Yeah I can relate to this. At peak point we had 5 active people, 7 on a very few occasions (whole team online) and now it's just me with the occasional mate I started with popping in once a week. It's just that we've seen it all done it all. Learned how to survive - check Looted towns and cities - check Found military grade gear - check Traversed the map all around - check Looted the NWA a few times - check Messed around Stary a few times - check Died a few times and re-established ourselves -check Had a huge camp with 10+ tents and shitloads of gear - check Had 8 vehicles stored - check Were in fire fights, both from our initiation and others - check Got all our vehicles stolen or blown up -check Got our campsite raided -check Learned of the bitter taste of getting everything taken away - check Finally wound up to the point nothing mattered except trying to get giggles out of the game driving a bus at the coast and shooting people -check What's there left to do? Nothing. Now a few of those groupies are trying to get me DL some god awful RP mod for arma called citylife or something...

How to farm loot. A guide to collecting what you want. (Outdated)
Daddy'o replied to U.B.C.S. Ravin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm not going to go in to the moral of this topic, but I will go in to the fact that it's full of wrong statements and misinformation. Loot works in cycles. Actually, don't take my word for it. Take Rockets: "When your character is near a building, your game (I shall refer to as client) checks the building to see when loot was last spawned. If it was spawned, and is old, it will delete that equipment (cleanup) and then let the building sit empty for a while. If you or another client comes along after that time has passed, it will then generate loot." This is why you don't find loot in all buildings, because it deleted old loot when you approached. And the loot certainly does not stick until next server reboot. I suggest you fix it if you plan on spreading this as a guide. source: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=686&pid=6313#pid6313 All you really need to do in order to farm loot is, go in, solo or in a group, pick the loot piles empty, drop em elsewhere, even next to the original piles works, then just run out about 100-200 meters, come back in 5 minutes, rince and repeat. Nothing else to it. Approaching an emptied out loot location always causes new spawns. And I should know, done it like that a good lot. -
The best, and worst of luck in 2 minutes
Daddy'o replied to Patient Zero's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Actually, I dont think it was the sound effect that aggroed em. I've encountered it the same way you have, but never had any issues even though zombs have passed right by me and it. It has even suddenly kicked in like that for me as well and still nothing. Don't think zombs have any reaction to it. -
Ewarwoowar and Richard / Mando, karma is a bitch :(
Daddy'o posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Ewarwoowar and Richard / Mando on eu 39 at 8th of july, let this be a lesson to you not to shoot people blindly on sight. My friend was at the deer stand west of Stary Sobor with little to his name except a few very basic supplies, no tools, only a double barrel with a couple of shots and no ill intentions. Completely new to the game. He got seperated from me, I've been playing for a month so you could say I'm his mentor now, and as I was instructing how to find me, that poor little wayward son, you introduced him to the cruelty of DayZ. Prejudice from the barrel. Well. As they say, karma is a bitch. It only took me 2 minutes to find you based on the shots you fired at the aggravated zombies after you had reached their ears by shooting my friend. Surely I showed you the same mercy you showed my friend, and by that mercy both of you now lie dead covered with flies and blood. By the time Ewarwoowar had hit the ground and the echo of my FN Fal shot ringed around his friend, the second bullet already found it's mark. Thank you for the supplies though. My second character has been starving and seeing grey for days at his location. May your new life and the waves of the shore wash away the prejudice that blights you. Vid to come later... -
I have yet to see a post from Wuflear that doesn't include bashing, name calling or other profanity. The guy has little constructive to post so it makes his posts more valid when he calls people morons and tells them to shove their theories up their ass. Truth is, I've found 3 in the time span of 5 days. 3 out of 5 chopper spawns. So yeah. You can do all the math you want with 0.43 percent drop. It just goes to show ya it's not an accurate %.

Yeah it's hack. It's been going around for weeks. Guy on my serv was yelling "FLY LIKE AN EAGLE" and dropped everyone from like 300 meters high from the sky to their deaths. Several times. Lost my first pair of NVGs like that.

2 DayZ characters 2 steam accounts, same computer?
Daddy'o replied to skits360's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It has to do with registry keys stored in the registry on your computer. It stores only one key in the registry per computer, no matter how many different copies or users you have. One option is to change the registry key every time you want to switch. You can find your registry key by doing this: Press windows start button type in the search regedit. When you have regedit open, navigate to the following: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> WOW36NODE (if you use win7) -> Bohemia Interactive Studio -> ArmA 2 OA You will see a file there that says KEY.You can right click it and press modify. you will see some figures. There are 15 double designations, something looking like C6 30 B6 26 B4.... etc these 15 pairs is your key. Every time your uncle plays he's playing with your key. You will have to find out his key, but you will have to install the game to a different computer with his steam account to find out what it is. Mind you the game doesn't have to work. You will only need to get it installed to see the key, so any laptop or similar will do just fine. When you know what his code is, you can modify the key file and change it to his key. Then he can play his character. Here are instructions how to make the changing process easier when you have both keys: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=12236&page=2 The post by McTittles. His instructions are missing one part though. You have to have REGEDIT4 typed in the beginning of the .reg file he's instructing to make.
