  1. If your building it yourself and not dropping big $ on specialty peripherals you can easily meet most games required specs at that price range (and often exceed them). my point being that if i drop my settings the damn game should run reasonably at specs on the box/on the store page. period. Should you be able to run Ultra? super high-resolution on multi-monitor or HDMI output to a widescreen with min specs? of course not. but you should be able to get good performance at modest to low settings on a single monitor. if thats not the case they either need to adjust the specs upwards or do more optimization. people also need to stop going to bestbuy/walmart or ordering prebuilt 'gaming' machines online and paying a premium for hardware they could have shopped around for and gotten much cheaper.
  2. i have a 1500$ (actually more) rig and it still has been known to tank FPS. DayZ is not a mod anymore and if they can't make this run at a reasonable (50-60FPS) on the average gaming machine (lets say 750-1k range) they should get utterly slammed for it. just has hard ans any AAA release that does that shit and trys to excuse it away. i know were far from optimization stage but when they do go to final release this thing best be humming. perhaps not at max settings on a budge build, but it should still run at 50FPS on system reqs. machine with min settings

Is PvP & Atmosphere Dying in DayZ SA?

I partly blame the all too common "pre-order for beta" culture and those 'betas' are often no more then nearly feature complete tech demos (stripped down to a small segments, or a single Map/mode in the case of online multiplayer) to get the fan boys hyped about the title. IMHO early access as a concept is really bad in many ways. a While ago someone did a video on it that really hit the nail on the head. 1. There is no pre-established/enforced criteria for what constitutes early access or how long something can remain in an 'early access' state. (customer confidence issue) 2. There is no hard and fast legal penaltys for developers/publishers who use Early access to sell products that they can choose to later cancel or release in an incomplete state. 3. As i said before many people coming to Early Access don't realy understand what alpha and beta stage are and are accustomed to 'betas' that are at best server stress tests and a sly way to boost pre-orders. 4. When a game goes thru a long time on Early Access without very active community involvement/communication or just flat out takes too long; you run the risk of a considerable amount of your playerbase simply growing tired of of your game and the update trickle before its even in a 'complete' state. which leads to..... 5. This sharp divide between newcomers to the game and the remaining 'bitter vets' who want to use the new-bros as scape goats for any design change/update they don't like. On top of all this, dayZ evolved from a MOD that already had a large and strongly rooted community who had their own vision of what makes dayZ what it is. that in and of it's self makes any departure or shift in game play a big bad can of worms just waiting to be sprung open. Bottom line I like the DayZ concept. I played the mod all the way back to the days of spawning with beans, bandage, and pistol in official public hive (before there even were any private hives). that Said, i don't really know if or believe that the SA can ever truly re-capture the enjoyment I got from the mod back then. maybe less was more. i don't know but i feel like were getting further away from the mod in a bad way with every change.
  4. i just want a hand cranked Gatling gun. preferably in brass or copper finish for cool factor...

    Why snipers aren't going away

In red. it's what killed the game play in the MOD, its whats driving it down the toilet in the SA. 'end-game' goals that are extemely tedious/diffacult to attempt solo or even downright impossible and give an enormous advantage to those who choose interaction/cooperation. some things i think would go a long ways Realistic inventory volume. if it shouldn't fit in your bag/clothes IRL you should have to carry it in hands or drag it leaving you completely unable yo have a weapon in hands without first dropping the item your carrying. (this especially applies to LARGE items for base building or car repair like tires, lumber, etc.)Realistic Stamina system and movement system that takes total weight on your character into account *Along with realistic weight values for every single item in-gameextremely Deep base-construction system as good or better then Epoch's (i know a lot of you hate epoch and i do too, but you have to admit the base building mechanics we a quantum leap over vanilla. it's a shame that was ruined with AI traders, and the number of servers that added in safe zones and completely indestructible bases)Realistic fuel consumption values for vehicles, and realistic weight of fuel and fuel containers (no more carrying 8+ 20L fuel cans around all day). again this should push players into cooperating to get a vehicle running. There needs to be content that makes cooperative survival rewarding in a realistic/authentic way- and the best way imho is to simply take a lesson from real life. combine this with harsh random weather, full day/night cycle with temps that vary throughout the day and based on weather + date/season would go a long way. add in a deep medical system with many different afflictions that require specific treatments and now i'ts infinitely more beneficial to work in a group.

    Why snipers aren't going away

agreed. I don't want a balanced dayZ i want a realistic one. hard things should be hard. that said, if your oblivious to your surroundings and let some numpty come up behind you with a sledge or pipewrench, well then you get insta KO'd . (im sorry either of those to the dome full-force with no headgear should be a death-sentence. the most OP thin in dayZ is and should always be situational awareness :)
  7. +1 mate. i can definitely respect that. tis a shame that theres always those few bad seeds who have to try to ruin a good thing. I can even understand actual bandits hitting the trade post to try to steal goods thats just part of the game, but blatant griefing and drama starting is where i just shake my head in disgust. from what i can see these look quite well organized tho... definately will consider checking out the next one :)

    Swords, Maces, rarity vs function

yup. Mele weapons... especially heavy ones should be reliably devastating.. especially to a soft fleshy human with little protection (not wearing body armor of some description). the very realistic balance to this is that if your even remotely aware of your surroundings someone should never get the chance to use them on you.

    Swords, Maces, rarity vs function

slashes, sure- stabs and blunt-force trauma of something like a mace, pipe wrenc, or hammer would still cause significant injury. you would either need considerably more padding to absorb the blow or some form of plate to spead the force over a larger area. (in reference to the 'few layers of burlap' statement)
  10. i would think you guys would have a lot of problems with trolls trying to crash your party.. not even including legitimate attempts on the loot my actual bandits.. or have i just become way more cynical of the playerbase then is warrented?
  11. nice to see you guys back online and in the SA game. our crew had a great time on your DayZero servers back when that was the hottest mod going.
  12. its an airconditioner. alot of motels and apartments around here have similar looking units.

    Swords, Maces, rarity vs function

they should do reasonable damage, especially to the vital areas. infact, i would argue that the damage model for mele weapons in general needs an overhaul to more 'realistic' levels. EG a sledge/mace/pipewrench to an un-protected head should all stand a good chance of being a kill, with the draw back being you have to actually ninja your way to within arms reach of your victim.

Simulating verbal communication with mic chat

So true. and yeah i pay more attention to the behavior of other players before making contact and especially those first few seconds after they realize someone else is there and knows where they are. If you do choose to attempt to actually interact (such as exchanging items) behavior really speaks volumes about thier intentions.

Character reset after visiting dubious server.

As much as i would like to see dupers banned, char whipeing/kicking of innocent players who encounter and item dropped by or on the body of a duper should not be penalized.

    Why snipers aren't going away

Pretty much my point tho. People need to stop looking at other players as being inherently 'good' or 'bad'. While there are certainly trolls who deliberately hunt fresh-spawns someone truly 'surviving' in this sort of scenario would be looking to get what they need at MINIMAL RISK to themselves. Good Survivors are inherently Good snipers because its all the same skill set. Observation, and if you have chosen a player as a 'mark' likely for their gear; stalking them, and carefully choosing your moment to strike from the most advantageous position possible. I don't play as KoS, bandit (anymore), or hero. I play as a survivor. My goal - stay alive. this means choosing my contact with other players carefully, avoiding putting myself at risk when possible- and if i choose combat at a means to get supplies or gear stalking my prey for that one moment when i can strike them down clean with a minimal of fuss and noise and trying do as little damage to the gear i hope to capture as possible. My philosophy for dayZ- Play smart, Take the safe route, and when in doubt- wait it out.

    Why snipers aren't going away

no, only The Good Sniper. The player who has mastered not only the shooting mechanics but has a solid concept of lines of sight and how obvious he or she is in thier surroundings. Being a sniper isn't just being a good shot (tho that's important.) It's being able to judge your surroundings, being observant and noticing what (and who) else might be in the area and where. and most importantly, having the patience to WAIT. i see this all to often- "sniper" players who see a target and start firing away the first time they get a shot without taking any time to observe and choose their moment.

why are there so many novodmitrovsk area spawns?

they should remove all inland spawns and go back to beach spawn only like the mod. with that said the 'best' gear should be located furthest from the coast aside from having low spawn rates.
  19. xalienax

    Automatics>Snipers soon?

The thing about the AKM is it has all the right traits (while not being really the best at any single situation, its a solid choice for almost any situation.) Enough knock-down power for all your zed and player killing needsSufficient rate of fire for suppressing fire in combat'accurate enough' to get the job done in almost any scenario save perhaps camping in a hillside.all in all if i were going to just take a single weapon as i found it (not going out of my way to hunt down parts to add to it)it would have to be the AKM.

When will the Sway be fixed?

This. and with that said, Worn and lightly damaged weapons should we way more common then 'pristine' (which i would assume to be basically "never-used" condition)
  21. I would certainly say that alpha is NOT the time for mods; however i hope the end product is every bit as mod-able as arma 2. infact if it isn't i would consider it a stain on BIS's record. i dont want another AAA re-hash 'play it our way and buy dlc after paying for the the game'. mods are a great thing. you don't have to like a given mod but it still should exist. if its popular it's obviously provided something that neither the base-game nor other less popular mods could- and this goes for BOTH mods that are more casual and mods that make the game much harder.
  22. This. a thousand times this. im sorry but as long as those servers aren't hive-connected more power to them! spawn with AS50 and 50,000 helis per server if you wana play that way. i think dayZ CS:GO editions is stupid personally, but if you can build a working mod and it's successful what evers have fun.

    Making real friends in Dayz

I met my wife thru a battlefield 1942 clan some time ago lol. (mind you we were both still in highschool at the time.. actually the same highschool and just hadn't realized it till talking about a local news story one night on TS) as for dayZ I've found a few friends mostly during the mod; sadly only 1 still plays dayZ with any regularity.
