Zombies need to be a real threat.

1000000% NO! until the teleporting, clipping thru walls/floors, etc are all fixed to AAA release standards. "its a flaw you know about adapt" was passible in a FREE MOD. in a RETAIL game it is 100% unacceptable in ANY FORM WHAT SO EVER. PERIOD. no zombie buffs at all until pathing and ai are 100% sorted.
  2. Id rather a few admins abuse admin then have their hands tied by silly hosting agreements that prevent them acting on suspicions. Yes it's annoying to get kicked/banned unfarily, but simply vote with your (virtual) feet and don't play that server. One of the top reasons for the "official" hive servers on the mod dieing out was that admins couldn't admin to their standards and instead had to meet this stupid list of criteria for banning/kicking. its this simple 1. we pay for server 2. We don't like your conduct, we think you hack, we don't like your face 3. Kicked 4. Problem solved go play another server and nomad bro.

    Why I don't like DayZ

couldn't agree more. I often hear arguments that the devs should limit/restrict what private servers are able to do and I think that is really the LEAST productive possible avenue for all involved. trying to ram your vision down people's throats simply wont work and you'll either have to over-complicate every tiney thing thus driving away 75% of the players. or just let people playing for the servers provide what their players WANT to play. For those of you who want a more cooperative or less "griefy" experience there will be servers, and for those who want to PvP there will be servers. and for those who want to run in huge clans things that work similar to epoch will be appealing (economy, fortification, ability to aquire MANY vehicles, etc. all pander to large group play). does it divide the community? absolutely- and that's fine. let people play their own way instead of forcing people who hate playing with each other to exits in one narrow vision of what the game can be.

    Riddeled with cheaters

First off to the OP; Perhaps you should take time to clam down before posting. one of the first things I learned in me EvE online career. nothing makes you look worse, less credible (and more of a liability to your own) then going on record like a loose cannon every time you get mad about something. with that out of the way; I have yet to see a single game out that doesn't have some form of exploiters in it. Rather that's simply clipping exploits, using a buddy to bounce you "out of the map" CoD style, "turbo" controllers seen on console, or down right hacking (code modification or server hijacking), its in EVERY GAME to some extent. Second to whoever made the comment about not criticizing it because its "alpha" that's not an catch all excuse. okay, the disclaimer I suppose legally makes it an excuse, but from a quality and principle standpoint it does not. anyone and everyone who plays has more then the right to openly and harshly criticize things they believe to be at fault in this. not only do they have a right to complain but they SHOULD complain. Developers (all developers) need to be held to a quality standard and pushed to address key issues/shortcomings of their work in a reasonable manner. Maybe if people were less eager as a hole to pony up their cash for pre-order and "early access" and only buy quality then devs world be economically FORCED to produce quality or be out of work.

    hunting and executing medics LOL

DRB did this plenty of times in our hayday on vanilla, Epoch and dayZero mods. its nothing original- and I think you'll often find that the "medic crews" come better prepared then you'd expect. We learned early on that "baiting" rp'ers into pvp Especially medic clans should only be seriously considered if you have considerable numbers on your side, or a fortification (our favorite was devils castle). At least our side chat baiting was hilarious and entertaining for 90% of the server :P next time you come here looking to start a war try being a little original, or at least entertaining.

Accuracy comparison: DayZ vs ARMA 2

This is why i like the amra 2 and specifically ACE way of doing things. Those willing to take the time to learn how it works IRL will have an advantage- those with better "aim" will hit more often- They should NOT be introducing random gamey mechanics like random dispersion. imho this is simply rockets pathetic and disgusting attempt to add value to this crappy attachments. Mcgyverd' weapons make nice fiction pieces, but i came here for a hardcore simulation environment not arcadey collect all the attachments BS.

Is the DayZ Mod better than Standalone?

I'd say over all the mods are 100x ahead of dayZ SA *IN ITS CURRENT STATE* A few simple thing that really make it better imho; the mod has many Sub-Mods made by the community to cater to different desires. Overwatch for pure PvP, Epoch for group play/bases, and origin/DayZero for a more refined version of the original.Vehicles. Vary heavily by which mod you play. there is everything from some private hives with a bijillion everything including jets and tanks, to the "official" mod with just a few civie rides, and everything inbetween.Storage. again varies by mod and server. in official we have tents. some others like epoch offer safes, lock boxes, caches, etc many of which survive character death allowing you to keep a permanent "stash"I do hope for the SA to get up to snuff but in its current state there is zero reason to do anything but KOS on the spawn areas as there's no lasting storage methods, No vehicles, no bases, nothing that would encourage or require a team effort to achieve.
  8. I would settle for them to stop magically moving and strikeing thru objects that I cant....

    Berezino new Elektro?

I kinda miss the old days in the mod when Berenzino was a little known treasure (days of spawning with mackerovs)

    What a Ducking fickhead

Lol come play eve online bro. you'll never have anything but rage. That new player in the freebie rookie ship? Hes out to get you. That trusted corp member you brought to the game from your old clan? hes out to get you. That veteran FC who led you to victory last night? hes out to get you. You learn really on that ever other player is both a potential asset and your greatest threat. you can never trust ANYONE. give then time investment gives REAL VALUE to expensive items and ships even that longtime friends you've played other games with for years may be tempted to back stab you given a shiney enough temptation. Add to this that the developers (much like those of DayZ) have gone on to openly say that espionage, Meta-Gaming and mind games are all part of the experience.
  11. I think that what were going to see with this new game is that it gives people something "more" on day one. many (myself included) are aggravated, frustrated, and tired of waiting for a trickle of minor additions. Many will rush to a new game that offers some sort of faction system, Bases, and vehicles on day one. *IF* dayZ sa does come full circle and give all that was hoped for and more, then I can see many of the more "hardcore" players returning. as it is right now tho, SA offers disgustingly little as a game- and more and more I feel that "Its just alpha" is used as a generic excuse by devs to drag a** indefinitely when selling games as early releases.

Stand alone attachment system = COD

I agree with OP. Infact I would go so far as to say we should basely have full ACE mechanics in DayZ. Sprint to long with to much weight in your pack > Slow down, then get dizzy/blurry, and finally pass out. Long range "sniping" would require at least "guess-timation" of wind speed and range, and firing between gusts. completely replace the "slot" system in inventory for Weight/volume system like ace. Total gear weight effects endurance, speed, etc. I could see a ton of cool stuff coming if they play this to BIS's simulator expertise. this could even become a matter of group tactics. EG. imagine that group A has just raided a city and is laiden with their gear and loot. a bandit clan spots them. rather then wasting precious ammo KOSing unarmed guys, you could easily out-run them and tackle them in hand to hand combat by packing lighter and having speed/endurance on your side.
  13. Notice to forum whiners and fanboys alike: This is a review based on my experiences and perspective only- Of DayZ SA as it CURRENTLY EXISTS. Please take it as such. Feel free to share your experiences/feedback. also, WALL-O-Text warning First, All the good things- Well lets see. It looks nice. The newer build of the engine has much nicer lighting then Arma II did, that's for sure. I actually do like that once you leave the coast just finding ample food and drinks can at time be a challenge. hit a few towns that have been cleaned out and you may be in a bad way. The equipment disparity in SA makes it much more stressful just to survive then in the mod where you can basicly live until death by hacker simply by hunting in the woods. What else? Well the gear UI (similar to that of A3) is rather nice. I like the easy drag n drop combining of things and less fidgety right click options. The Zombies I have mixed feelings about in their current iteration. At times they seem godly due to their ability to warp thru walls and now even floors (a pathing AI desynch Issue STILL not addressed from the mod) but when they actually work correctly they can be a significant threat. I would like to see them "fixed" to be have properly in a more consistent manner and *Only then* seriously buffed to make fighting them a real challenge. I do genuinely like the move towards making mere survival for one more day harder. I look forward to even more environmental hazards. I really see the SA as a new beginning for dayZ with a TON of potential provided the developers can push it forward quickly enough to take advantage of the fanbase. however, left to linger in its current state more and more will look to other options for entertainment and established dayZ communities will continue to disperse. The Bad and ugly things- Zombies still need fixing. Pathing and desynch is horrible, Damage is all over the place and at times they repeatedly swing thru you wile you're standing still doing zero damage. other times they ninja punch you out in one hit. The fact they can now mysteriously go under floors as well and into the ground and hit you when you cant see them is a nearly game-breaking flaw in cities. Mele weapons are dodgy at best, and sometime outright useless. One can only see the point of using an axe over a gun to quietly dispatch the zombies without drawing unneeded attention, However their effect on the zed is almost entirely random. I can repeat the same scenario 10 times and mayer 4 or 5 of those will result in a dead zombie. sometimes they will ignore it as if nothing happened. other times they agro you and take no damage. sometimes you get lucky and a swing to the back of the head is an instant kill. Consistency is needed here. Despite SA being delayed multiple times since original projections and being out for some months, We still are lacking core functionality; without which there is no reason to play beyond the first few days. get a few guns, kill a few people, get killed, repeat. without vehicles, storage, and some kind of construction system there is no end-game content. and lacking that, more and more people (myself included) are suffering dayZ burnout and simply giving up on this reaching its "vision" in a reasonable timeframe. I really feel that if we aren't surpassing the functionality by the time summer break rolls around the opportunity may be lost- sadly. TL;DR (and final thoughts) All in all its a stripped down version of the mod; that looks slightly nicer. zombie pathing is worse then ever, and I feel more and more so like content development is nowhere near the timetable it should be. sprinkling a few carbon copied betty vans from A2 on the map as they are right now with no new features imho, would be more beneficial then anything else right now. With so many of the models and assets already in existence, I really believe that simply "porting them" Now and re-inventing the wheel later would be the best approach. ride the "summer break" activity increase with new content and more things to do other then spawn/die on the coast and re-invigorate the community. Suggestions/Feedback: Get *any* working vehicle in the game ASAP. even a direct port from the mod. Same for crappy tent system. give us *something* and reinvent the wheel later with core functionality in place, even if flawed.Fix the zombie pathing and AI once and for all. if I can't hit thru it with an Axe I better not get zombie punched thru it either. No excuses, no exceptions. this is standalone, not mod. shoddy pathing can NO LONGER be written off as "technical limitation" bs. fix it. yesterday.Continued focus on PVE, but give us storage. we need storage. lack of hoarding/build up leaves little more entertainment value besides costal deathmatching.Leave it a completely un-restricted sandbox. Take a lesson out of EvE online's playbook. Provide the sandbox and implements and let the players do as they will with them. for good or evil as they see fit.Any beginnings of construction system (perhaps even something similar to Epoch's base building) would be nice as soon as possible.

    Review/Feedback/Suggestions

thing is the "assets" Ie. the betty vans from Amra II, already exist. the games is being produced by BIS. there should be no issues simply porting them. doing this wouldn't derail or degrade the game in anyway and would only serve to give groups of players something to leave the coast for, and offer a distinct advantage to those who willing to go to the trouble of repairing and maintaining them. Same with tents. carbon copying some core functionality from the mod *in the mean time* would be much more beneficial then just leavin' us with costal DM w/ zombies that are a minor nuisance.

Can I Run DayZ Retail (POST HERE)

Dansco you'll be able to run for sure, That's a dual core right? don't expect anything amazing. then engine weighs hard on your CPU. I have a 2.5Ghz dual and get around 30-35FPS MAX with a better GPU for comparison. If you an arma player use to occasional stutters and can live with playing below 50 fps you'll be fine. if you accustoms to glassy smooth typical FPS that runs at 60+ you may be unhappy with performance.

Can I Run DayZ Retail (POST HERE)

If your okay with long load times and menu lags you can reasonably play minimum specs. I've been playing on a slightly upgraded office machine. desktop Athlon II x2 215 @ 2.4Ghz EVGA GTX 650Ti 4gb DDR3 ram (stock, unknown brand) 1600x900 resolution up to 35~FPS in wilderness low 20s in cities. any recording/streaming software drops me below 10 >.< miss my nice I7 920. Its very workable and you can still win gunfights just don't expect to max your settings or play on a huge resolution. Arma engine is a resource hog and FPS fluctuations are all over the place even on some very nice builds. if you have min specs expect stutters/lags/etc from time to time even on low.

    Dean Hall On PvE

just my 2 cents- coming from someone who has played both the Official Mod, community mods, and SA a considerable amount (Many all night benders logging off only after realizing that was sunlight coming thru my window IRL) First, Saying that people who play in groups, clans, or teams are carebears or implying that they are playing the game wrong is just silly. This is a game- actually more a Simulator of a zombie apocalypse in which all law and order beyond that which small groups of people can impose on others has long since vanished. Teaming up and/or clanning up should be by defacto be the single most OP thing in the game. Infact, I think that as more and more environmental factors become an issue for mere survival Large and larger groups will become the norm. The more "ants in the colony" the more chances you have to find that vital medical item, or rare weapon to give your crew an edge of the others competing for the same resources. Secondly, at its core dayZ is pvp- but not in the costal dethatching people think of as PvP. PvP simply means that you are Competing with other PLAYERS. it does not Inherently mean KILLING them. Once engame content and vehicles come into play I can see situations where entire servers are dominated by 2 or 3 groups in completion for good base locations, medical supplies, and things to repair and improve vehicles with. this is not a bad thing tho in my opinion. is very much what one might expect in real life in an apocalyptic scenario. The remnants of society dividing into localized pockets, often coming to blows over what few resources remain in a decaying world. to me this is an exciting and engaging scenario, not a bad thing. I really think that dayZ should follow EvE online's lead in the respect of going "Here's the sandbox and the implements- good luck" and leaving the players to do as they will, for better or worse. You can expect both stories of cooperation- and horrendous losses of hours, weeks, even months of work invested in fortifying towns and cities (akin to building up sov and supers in eve)

    every server is dark

I have no problem with night and am one of the few who refuse to play in grayscale. I like trying to find my way around confusing new building layout with only my flashlight in the dark it adds to the experience for me. That said, they need to put servers back to the time zone the box is in (synch game time to system clock). Otherwise people will never have an opportunity to experience both day and night. some of us DO have schedules outside of dayZ and cant live around what ever time zone every single server in the world seems to be synched to.
  19. im still "cautiously optimistic" about standalone. I want dayZ to be harsh, brutal world where dieing SUCKS and getting back to your previous situation with all that nice gear takes days or even weeks. But with all of that said, I do fear arbitrary "features" and "mechanics" put in to make it harder purely for the sake of making it harder. I like the simulation style feel of dayZ and have no problem with over-coming realistic challenges that add to the immersion and fear of death- Just don't want to see annoying limitations/restrictions imposed on things that would work IRL for the sake of balance or increasing difficulty. @OP agree 100% after months of overwatch and dayZero ive grown sick of the spawn, kill, die, repeat playstyle and actually enjoy valuing my life now.

Admins wanted for brand new server

Just a little suggestion to OP; You might want to specify what Mod you plan to run (eg. Vanilla, overwatch, etc.) You'd probably have a better chance of finding people who know more about specifically what your trying to do.

What weapons do Hero's normally carry?

I don't think their really is any rhyme or reason to it. Like all other players a hero will probably pick weapons from - What's readily available - Ease of re stocking ammo (Eg. if you roll with a clan you may do well to use the same type of guns so you can bum ammo from each other in a pinch) and of course, how you play. Also keep in mind that having the skin doesn't make them a true hero. its actually quite easy to KOS everything and still get hero skin if your in a clan and frequently BB your buddies.

    Dean says...

Not that long ago I would have been all idealistic and argued with everyone about when its coming, if its ever coming, and how dirty I think it is to "sell" an alpha. Now I just don't care either way on all account. When and only when its out, and adequate amount of reviews are in (from players not "professional" reviewers) i'll consider buying if it meets My standards. I guess ive gotten to old to be sucked into the frenzies and hype anymore :P
