Dayz players evolving together with the game
xalienax replied to ld-airgrafix's topic in General Discussion
Yeah my first clan did that when doing the hero thing, normally the guy giving the blood bag or morphine would just get lit up afrer poriving the required assistance. I suppose bitter experiences have turned me inot a bitter player. lol. Another common misconception in the forums for some time now is that everyone who kills players or carrys PvP gear must be a costal deathmatcher. I am a full-time PVP player in dayZ. soon as i have a viable wepon i stalk people and actively seek PVP. with that said just going full-retard in cherno and aggroing 50 glitching super-zed to kill a gear-less fresh spawn is plain stupid. Real PvPers and bandits know to pick and choose fights/victims in areas where they can engage with optimal effect on target for minimal risk to them selves. -

i think that ratio is a bit off unless thats based on expiremental or something? in SA ive had head blow'd off way more then firendly encounters. holds true in the mod too. on average maybe 1 in 10 guys actually dont try to kill you imediately. thats been my experience. the first clan i was in were playing "hero". i grew sick of spending 45 minutes to heal a guy who shoot my face off for no reason. Been full time PvPer ever since. if its not in TS with me, it needd a bullet. no exceptions granted. yeah, it gets pretty silly at times. I dont go out of my way to chase fresh spawns on the coast who have nothing, to take a swing with my fists at a guy wielding a mosin. its just stupid. That said if im geared and see you, you get a mosing round to the head if i think i can drop you. location/gear/cloting irrelevant. thats how we play. If you have really nice kit i may stalk you for a while so i can engage in a more convient location away from zombies allowing for easier looting. -

Trader makes it stupid. That one feature makes it all pointless. the ability to sell almost any crap loot to get gold and just buy all the supplies removes any "value" to anything. If you had to work with a group of 20+ for weeks farming and crafting the resources to build those bases (or the means to breach them) it'd be more interesting. I've tried epoch and LOVE the construction system, but thats all it has going for it. -

I guess thats what happens when a game evolves from a mod. Many of the early players just want a refined version of what they loved not a whole new animal. -

Private servers must be 100% at paying owners discretion. This includes everything from clan only, spawn with Mosin, 10x normal vehicles, etc. Also if modding becomes a thing that means altered game files (uincluding additional units/weapons/gear. there is no viable way to have Modded servers share a commong DB when they have varied content. again, not to be rude i have been on both sides of this. IF YOU JOIN A PRIVATE SERVER AND DONT LIKE THIER POLICIES DONT FREAKING PLAY THERE! -

Ive also seen more of the ranty KoS thready getting closed. perhaps that has something to do with it? Im a PvPer. I always will be. Not the least bit ashamed of that. Im all for cooperative play- I host a teamspeak for that. If you not in it, I hope you see me before i see you. Especially once i get my beloved AKM back. -
Any decent servers which done KOS

Untill legit private hives are allowed admins have limited abilities and cant kick/ban to enforce "friendly play" on official servers. As such anyone can choose to be a troll and shoot you in the face 5 mins after you spawn. only recourse: get a gun before anything else. -

Never said they would evaporate mate- I just think if they'd let the comunity run with the project we'd all have more content and more fun. frequent excuses tossed about: -"The engine'd been gutted and many of the content in Mod wont work" *Illegeal modded servers prove this wrong. -"Its not ready and modders wont be able to work with it in its state" *Really aggervating considering dean himself started as a modder should know better. no ones asking for a hand-holdey editor with doccumentation on constantly evolving features, but the veteran arma engine modders and coders CAN and WILL work with it. Apparently at a faster pace then the paid developers... -"Mods Divide the community" *Yes they do. But how many random Deathmatchers went to that super hardcore Namalsk mod where just survivng your first day was doubtful? not many. Overwatchs gave them a nice Free-for-all DM with bonus zombies to play in. Mods mean you can choose. -"private servers lead to admin abuse" *Some do, Some dont. If you dont linke how a server is run play a different one, or rent your own. better to have the option then being stuck with hackers and exploiters (that, lets be honest, can never be 100% stomped out) Like i said i dont endorse piracy at all. I Have literally deleted people from my FL for having pirated games. i despise them. Its because of thier kind im forced to put up with shiddy DRM in some of my favorite titles. That said im equally angry that Dean and his team refuses to acknowledge that the modding comunity is just as capable as he is (how did he get started on this again? ohh right, by modding A2!). -

Its the truth. Ive gone largely back to the mod. mostly private hives. Not because i want 20 bajillaion helos in cherno, but because quite frankly the games greatest strength was being built on arma. An avid modding comunity kept it thriving. "official" mod died out because people didnt like the direction it took. Comunity mods were better for the people playing them. Private hives saved DayZ when the hacker flood started. as an admin on official you had minimal recourses to ban on your own servers with out solid logs- on private you could spectate and even ban on suspicion alone. did some admins abuse it? sure. were there good servers with mature admins? yes. and those are the ones that became enormously popular. Mods DID split the community. And for the better to be honest. Yes there were few purists dissapointed at the dwindling participation in official. dont blame the mods blame the devs for not producing something that was as good as or better then high popular mods (See: dayZero, Epoch, Origins) these split offs all had thier flaws but offered way more to thier player base then official did. I seriously would have ponied up 59.99$ (the release day going rate of AAA titles in the US) on day one for polished version of an early dayZ mod with comunity mods/private hives allowed. Why? look where this alpha made my professional devs is right now? Search youtube for SA private hive and you'll see they already have tents and vheicles working. its basicly a dayZ vanilla mod redux. Funny isnt it? those of us who bought legitimate copies are locke dout of playign on servers with modded files- but the pirates get to enjoy a game worked on by modders thats already further ahead then this will be in the next 6 months. Edit: Not by any means endorsing piracy. i blame those filthy scumbags for all the DRM headaches i have to deal with on modern releases. it just GRIND MY FREAKING GEARS that they're the only ones with working vehicles in SA, while we get excuses. -

All i want is a polished version of the mod. They didnt need to do a total re-invention. How to make dayZ good: 1. Take very early version of mod 2. Add crafting and base building similar to epoch (but no stupid AI trader that will let you get everything with ease) 3. Optimize performance and security 4. Release on steam for 40-50$ 5. Allow private servers/modded servers from day 1 everyone plays the servers/mods they like and no one is left QQing about game direction. -
DayZ adds the unique aspect of having to manage beign rushed by zombies and only havving what youve managed to scavenge along the way all the while being engages in this shoot out. Thats what dayZ is for me. I really loved the early days of the mod. the more complex they tried to make it the less free and fun it felt imho.
-
If felt so much more fun then :( I know why the changes were made n all but meh. i liked primitive dayZ best. the more junk they added they less i enjoyed it.

Agree. Snipers carry a bad stigma in almost every game from CoD, to BF, to ArmA to DayZ amoung the vast majority. TBH i think its the "instantly destroyed without a sign" factor that really tweaks peoples nerves and adds to this stigma. Having played alot of the mod i am way more fearful of a M240B or AKM then a sniper in 90% of situations. yes you know where they are soon as they fire but they have way more versatility in engagement ranges and position. ive seen a single guy with LMG kill 14 person squad on dayZ

DayZ - Just a Game? Or also a pretty cool Social Experiment?
xalienax replied to TheDoctorInDayz's topic in General Discussion
One of the best games of all times imho. its sheer complexity and snails pace progression can put of alot of would be newcomers but if you can slog though your first year it's an incredibly deep and rewarding experience if you put some effort into it. there is no other game that has kept me loggin' on for over 10 years. sure ive played other things on and off but EvE you can play for 10 Years and still have new things to get into and room to grow! -

thats the beauty of entertainment mediums. Thier entirely subjective. Person A gets thier enjoyment from winnning fair fights in 1v1 or squad v squad PvP Person B Gets enjoyment from having all the best stuff Person C Enjoys the social aspect and unpredictable, unscripted player encounters. None of them are wrong for enjoying one specific element. imho the only time its wrong is when you stop wanting to play BECAUSE of your playstyle. Some people geninuely enjoy the push for the best. thats all there is for them. I feel tho that for many they get tunnel vision for it and forget that when it becomes boring that there is other stuff to explore... -

i think Power-gaming is more appropiate then min-maxing. Min-maxing more applies to the practice of choosing to level only a few attributes/abilities (common in MMOs/RPGs) that suit a cherry-picked play-style at the expense of any diversity or flexibility. Power gaming on the other hand, is generally defined as focusing on progression over imersion, comraderie, or the expereicne in general. These are the sort of people who take any reules/terms to the game as a To-the letter contract and bear no mind for the "spirit of the rules". Generally have no interest in sportsmanship or the preception of it- only to "get ahead" This manifest it's self in DayZ in the sense of how we always see a focus on how to get the best loot fastest. A constant push for more "end game content" and a desire to rush ever on towards the end game. to some extent this value of porgress over experience also effects KoSing in the aspect that people who are playing only to progress thier character's gear would rather "Play it safe" and kill first then risk a meeting on even terms. -

heh interesting parallel- A few weeks ago a mate of mine in EvE online had just listen to on of his corps "younger members" have a hissy fit about loofing a ship and go on for nearly 2 hours straight about it. at the end of which he simply responded "Have you ever thought it interesting, if not sad, that we get so upset by explodiong pixels on our screens, yet flip the channel with indifference when the evening news tells us of some bombing or disaster killing hundreds indiscriminately." -
why the rush? drift from place to place, amking use of what you can. let your game evovle on its own accord instead of trying to min-max your way up the precieved ladder (which doesnt exist btw. A freshie who stubmeled upon a Blaze or SKS will cut you down as quick as some elite military gun junky if he gets the drop on you!

Agree. I get 25+ fps on a ~800-900$ PC with last-years budget parts. everything left at default except filtering and AA i belive i changed to bump FPS up a tad. There is a mis-conception that you have to exclude a bunch of people to have a cutoff on optimisation, but its really bad in MP games where all the "pros" even those with beast machines are forced to set everything to minimum to remain competitive because you have no glare or ground clutter that way. If you want it to Look pretty AND play smoothly you have to spend more. simple. other wise accept crappy textures or reduced view distance.
-
IIRC if you have the A2/OA seperate in steam you had to do something to make it run as combined operations or something like that. Also many private hives will auto DC you if you dont have additional mods installed. Finally, make certain both your arma and dayz are fully patched to the latest version. DayZ commander is a nice user friendly utility to automate this for you. alternatively, you can get the latest build of A2OA from the A2 website.

you must refuel the jerry can. it will take 50+ jerry cans to fill that chopper iirc. the jerry can can be refuled at the large rusty fuel tanks often found behind gas stations and some barns.

Alright, I am finally concerned about the standalone

key word you didn't highlight there is ENDS. That means we'd expect it to be feature complete whe its read to move OUT of alpha INTO beta. -
Can anyone game share their Dayz SA with me?
xalienax replied to TheKdJMan's topic in General Discussion
i know it goes on but i'm pretty sure this is against the TOS. Plus being that its only being released thru steam atm youd have to share account information which is not only against steams' TOS but also incredibly risky.
