  1. Wile it being in alpha is a valid reaons for it being buggy even unstable at times, many "fanboys" use it as a blanket shutdown to any topic that might call into question anything that is other then blindly going along with rocket's ideas. THAT'S why this is even a topic. we all agree it was a buggy alpha before buying it. Most of us bought it tho, because we were FANS of the DAYZ MOD.
  2. I didnt expect it to function as smoothly as a mod on day 1, However i did expect a continuation of the gameplay experiences i had in the mod. i do of course, accept responsibility for buying the moment it went live rather then waiting to see what path it took first. thats a risk you take with early access of course, but i dont share in rockets' direction at all. I was looking for an improved version of the mod basicly....
  3. I have to say i havent. but then, ive been generally put off by it and am pretty much hinging its worth on the modding comunity at this point. I bought on day one as a veteran of the mod. I bought it because of my experiences with the mod, expecting an extension of that. the more recent interviews and roadmap indicate that rocket prefers a TOTAL re-invention and departure from the mods gameplay and mechanics. As such im hoping that ones it goes final relese the modders will release something that plays more like vanilla mod, at that point i will enjoy it. Also for a MP-only 100 hours is fairly low lol. most MP only titles one would expect replay value into the thousands of hours. I still play BF2 9 years later. I still play EVE online 11 years after the creation of my first account. these are the metrics and standards i expect of online MP-only games. Im sorry but im a bitter vet who grew up in the era of PC games that were built to last more then 5 years with on-going support and content rather then 1 year wonders before turning out a new installment we see common place now.

    What do now?

First off, that m4 you have is garbage compare to the one in the mod. Untill thy fix it i would strongly consider carrying the Blaze or the Mosin. 1hit KO with those if need be. the games currrent disperson cone for the M4 turns it inot a total crap shoot as to rather it will work for ya or not when you need it to. Second, even at 20FPS you can play effectively. ive done it for a long time! only recenly investing in a nice rig more for multi-boxing on eve but i digress. experience some PvP and get some practice. if you havent played it yet, the mod is definately worth playign simply to get used to observing, stalking, etc. you'll get way more opportunities there- just know that the gun handling is not the same. And finally- dont let long winded people on the forums (myself included) tell you how to play! dayZ doesnt have to be a camping simulator any more then it does a Military simulator. Play the style you enjoy. I love stalking and hunting players. its a rush and a bit of a power trip at times having the guys head in my scope and knowing i could just kill em or not on a whim. like wise maybe you actually enjoy the struggle with the environment more? or want to keep helping people? and never get into a rut either. theres no law says you can't switch up your playstyle from time to time! These are just general suggestions to get more from it, Play how you want and enjoy YOUR game.
  5. you know. All of us (myself included) are in a way at fault for paying for an alpha. When it initially when up on steam, there was limited information about what rockets end vision would be, there was no reall time table provided, yet like "drones" everyone one of us here with play time in the SA went and paid on day 1 for a protuct with that nice incomplete warning on it, No roadmap, feature list, or time table provided.

    Grass Graphics

its a real possibility. one would have to know more about how the engine actually handles preloaded assets tho. tis somewhat beyond the scope my my knowledge :P
  7. xalienax

    Grass Graphics

I dont have a nuts n bolts understanding of how the engine handles this, but wouldnt most of the "assets" ie textures be pre loaded to video memory anyways? this ould just add a few sudden render calls unless im missing something. The main issue i would think would be a matter of it creating "stutter" as it suddenly pops-in all the new stuff as your draw distance changes. Much like the intital stutter you get on loading in or changing video settings.

    fps for me

Up untill this past weekend i was playing on what amounts to an upgraded min-Spec office machine with a HD 5770. total cost with upgradeas around 8-900 USD and would avreage 15 FPS in the SA, maybe 20-25 min the Mod. you can definately play at low FPS if your accustomed to it, However the minute you get used to playing glassy smooth at 60+ on a current gen quad and high end GPU you'll wonder how the heck you managed to do anything without it. That said, the game still gets random pop-in and stutter even on a ~4k USD build

    Videos claiming people are bandit's

yeah.. then i got tired of being the anvil and started being the hammer. way more enjoyable being on the trigger then on the spawn screen xD
  10. lol. +1 to OP tho. I really like the idea as long as it's well-done and in a semi-relistic way, not som b-grade action movie rip off xD. Ive seen many games and mods try to do varying forms of "shock" and knock back from hits of different kinds. Most fail miserably and either give you an animation thats WAY to long or takes total control away from the player compleetely. Notice that even the soldier hit near the humvee was able to scramble inot the vehicile almost imeditley after being hit? if they can make ti where it just knocks you down or make makes you roll a bit as you get knocked down depending on WHAT hit you, that would be awesome. if ti becomes an anoying "locked" animation where im forced to watch my caracter flounder like a fish because a bullter landed near me and the came decided to register it.. that will become more anoying then it's worth.

    Videos claiming people are bandit's

Hero skin was fundamentally broken. when playing with a large clan i almost laways had hero skin despite killing players randomly. Why? when your rolling around in gangs of 15+ your always boostin up your humanity with transfusions. its an inevitable side effect of someone always getting wounded dragging around a 3 ring circus with you on every raid.

    Videos claiming people are bandit's

If it walks on 2 legs and doesnt make growling noises it's a threat. period. There is no humanity system. there is no Bandit skin. there are only players who kill and player who *get* killed.

Dayz players evolving together with the game

adding more zombies wont stop it. it'll go from lone-wolf Pvpers to squad Pvpers. all making the zed a bigger problem will do is force them to bring enough back up to hold the buildgin after the sniper fires his mosin. I have no doubt that the survivor will remain my favorite game in the new hunting scene well into final release.

    Server bullshit

I think you got the enclave part right, But i really think these would be highly factional and hostile towards "outsiders". If you look as almost anoy histrocial societal collapse where food, medicine, etc can no longer be readily obtained due to a break down of the society you see that those who remain are often devided along lines such as race, heritage, religion, etc. and local warloards use these things as a way to justify violence against any individual or group they view as an "outsider". Im sorry but this idea of everyone bonding together and singing kumbaya around the camp fire doesnt seem likely to me. if histroy teaches us anything a situation like this generally sees people revert to forming social enclaves based on long standing divides in thier society that were mitigated by abundance prior to the collapse.
  15. Even mods that get alot of atention are subject to this. As a dev you get flack either way. Its only made worse by the devise nature of trying to make a game thats being sold as a progression from an existing experience.
  16. I have to agree. The mod team here is actually more unterstanding to most. I myself as one of the more outspoken cirtics of general direction they have chosen to move in with the SA. Many other game's froums would see a thread like this one locked and OP warned to not go down that road. I have no loyaltry to rocket and if you look at many of my posts im all about being critical, but I've yet to see anyone's threads gueniunely unfairly deleted that didnt cross some general guidelines or had devolved into a flame war.
  17. First +1 for diving into this can of worms. im sure you'll get flamed to hell before long and i fully expect this to get closed knowing how devided people are thses days. any ways, Having worked on Mod/comunity projects myself i can attest to the fact that you CAN NOT WIN when you have an enthusiastic/dedicated fanbase. -If you have no early release, then release in beta or final with "fixed" gameplay more or less- everyone whose not 100% satisfied will accuse you of deliberately not letting them have input. -If you do do early access, well dayZ SA is pretty much what happens. community becomes strongly divided about direction and time table. when devs dont live up to neither sides expectation they generally turn on eachother. Another can of worms that dean and the team have to contend with is that the mod was played by a devoted fanbase for over 2 years straight! This unfortunately means that many people here have a very clear vision for what they believe dayZ to be, Dean/rockett obviously wants to push the tech and be more ambitious with features, but considerable contingenet of us (including myself) just want the minimilist feel of the early mod with some polish! The design decisions made pretty much mean the SA and mod will be night and day, apples to oranges different in mechanics and gameplay. again, this is a HIGHLY devisive topic for members of the comunity. At the end of the day tho, All we can ask and demand is a solid working product for our money. When you bought it so early you perpetuated the Early access craze, and gave your money to rocket/BIS without having any set-in-stone time table or roadmap. (many of deans' roadmap interviews and discussions came to be AFTER SA went live on steam). I sympathize with the devs because its an impossible position to be in really. there is no way to ahandle it woithout recieveing flack from one side or another. At the same time, i do feel that a considerable contingent of people who bought the SA based on thier experiences in the MOD will gro from "its alpha" then the excuse will becme "its beta" then when it's rleased many will be standing there going "WTF THATS WHAT WE WAITED FOR!? THIS IS NOTHING LIKE THE ORIGINAL!"

    Morailty in gaming poll

perfectly valid, but i think even you have to admit the extent of the screaming about KOS on these forums, and this desire to punish/restrict any PvP playstyles is kind of over the top. If i had never played and only read these forums, id expect to be literally spawn camped and dead within 10 seconds of spawning based on the level of hatred over KOSing.

    Fireplaces by end of april?

I do agree that its total B/S that social media and things like reddit get info first rather then them being posted to a news page or anouncement section of that developers' OFFICIAL SITE first. The news page on officcial site should be first and difinitave source for all information from screenshots, Maitenances announcements, devblogs, etc.

+1 mate. Mr. Mosin does not like the friendly kind! Welcome to dayZ where it's nothing but tears!

    Morailty in gaming poll

funny right? I wont deny there is a lot of KOS. i do my part to perpetuate it daily both mod and SA. However, i think the whiners are juts a ver loud minority that blow the "issue" drasticly out of preportion. Killing is a part of the game, so is theft, banditry, etc.
  22. The mod zombies dont out run you and you can use terrain/buildings to break aggro. this does not work in SA, if thier are taking you to the ground with 80% frequency they will be stupidly OP. if it comes to that i'll just play the mod. Im all for makeing the game a challenge, but alienating/eliminating entire playtyles is bad.

    Fireplaces by end of april?

quite frankly when modders and comunity managers of non-profit projects toil away and produce faster releases that work better then a paid team.. i can sympathize with the angry hateful people. Like i said before, this is always an issue when developers take a more or less working "free" project like a mod or comunity made game mode or such and try to go full release with it. Many original fans just want a polished version of what the original fell in love with, not a whole new animal. Dean and the team have been ver ambitious with features and pushing the tech, and this is resulting in people becomes somewhat annoyed- especially when many dont even like the design direction to begin with.
  24. This zombies grabbing and knocking down people is going to be horrible if they still outrun us everywhere including indoors, on hills, and on normal ground- combined with the lunging attack it will make getting nearly any aggro without 2 or 3 gunmen covering you a death sentance. im all for a challenging experience but i can see this after the first 30 minutes becoming pure aggervation.
  25. while your system is probably in part to blame, I recently got a really nice sysetm and it still stutters in cities. its the current build man.
