What mod did you play? I played the mod from the beginning and still play it. Both official and various private hives. only dedicated RP servers/PVE servers where you are threatened with being kicked for being a "Dick" did you see people cooperate with randoms. i didnt say there was no cooperation. I cooperate with my clan every time i play. i cooperate with the guys i have in Teamspeak for sure. but mr. johnny random is nothing more then a pack mule to follow into the wilderness, kill and loot for us. imho from a development perspecteive Private hives and community mods will make this game (or break it if thier steered/regulated/prevented). More simplistic mod-like servers will see the sort of people i play with be happy. then there can be servers that cater to both extreemes- from "beg and plead with other survivors for a soda or die of thirst" all the way up to over-watch like servers that are spawn and be rocking an AS 50 with full ghilley and a freaking black hawk within 45 minutes. The main issue with the current mod is it does not allow any private servers that force thier own rules or run thier own mods- as such people from all of these comunitiy mods as well as new people from the FPS genre are pouring into the SA and being forced to play together. your playstyle and mine will always be at odds. neither of us are wrong for playing a game our own way (im sorry that's what it is. other wise lets make it 100% authentic where you only need to eat or drink once or twice in a 24hr period of real time passed to survive). Im not trying to adovcate that the SA should cater to anyone 100%. they need to find a balance. chances are you dont play for 24 hours periods of time. as such, being forced to play a 24 hr day/night cycle or have food&fluid consumption and other effects happen in real-life time scale wouldnt work every well from a gameplay perspective. you cant however, use realism as a justification for one thing (see rare resources, or very complex medical systems) then on the other hand say well "its okay that we have dispersion cones and make weapons handel in a way thats blanced" if its a true simulator we have to completely forgo balance in every single aspect. not just ones that favor a certain group of players.

Funny thing. arma can be considered mor realistic in many ways then the SA is. EG weapon handling, attachment system directly effecting weapon stats, and dispersion cones. Not trying to be a "douchebag" just pointing out how easy it is to cherry-pick which elements are more or less realistic. -
the mod was not like that. a few private hives that forced certain rules of conduct did play like that. I played the mod from the very early days and i will tell you Killing anyone who moves is a playstyle that has been around basicly from the beginning, and xcontrary to popular belief i personally think that the harder they make it to gear up will make more and more people play this way. it is a game. At the end of the day why put my self at risk of having to go thru the annoyance of re-gearing when i can just kill and take what i please? IMHO dayZ SA is a prime example of what happens when devs try to steer gameplay in a pre-existing community. I played a certain way in the mod. I will not change for the SA. the harder yo make gear to come bay the more and more i will only work with established clan members and kill all others. why share? less bodies = more gear for those of us left living. i DO NOT CARE 1 TINEY BIT about randoms. if you are not in my clan i will shoot on site. no expceptions. if you see me in your server i suggest you KOS me because i will KOS you. bar none.

+1 mate. I think people so easily overlokk the idea that people who work with groups are interacting. Just because we choose not to be all merry and cheritable in a freakin' apocalypse doesnt mean were not interacting. we are interacting with by working together with our own, your either one of us or your a threat to us. -

The big problem people have (or atleast that i have) with strong zombies is that they dont play by the rules of a physical world, instead they way in which they are coded means they dont recogize the actual Models as being there. this is why you see the AI walking in floors and striking thru walls. Untill this is 100% fixed making zomibes faster then players, knock players out frequently, high rate of infections, etc all make them OP. Players need consistent behavior from the game. Im all for a challenge, but it needs to be a matter of skill and experience not just rather the AI decides it wants to go wonky and KO you with a lunge attack from 10ft away thru a concrete wall. -
Any kind of fortification/base system will inherently give a defensive advantage. But, for the sake of this thread- Modified game files arent part of the consideration. were talking about server owners.. erm.. renters.. being able to fully configure all server relates options to thier taste. we already know the day night cycle is in the server config simply based on the statements made in rockets roadmap about the possibility of giving controll of that to the server renters. The example you give is more akin to say.. playing Epoch Vs. Vanilla Vs Overwatch, etc. And even here i think anyone with half a brain kind of knows that there means for recourse ends with the server renters when playing modded servers/private servers. Many things like prefab clan bases, starter loadouts, etc offered for donations have recieved mixed reviews in the community. some like them some hate them but the simple fact is once were dealing with modified files i would assume that wouldn't be synched to "official" hive for the very reasons you stated, let alone to ability to alter loot and farm up on thier home server. AT some point it becomes a matter of let the community sort its self out. Private Hives will not carry gear or characters to official hives, meanaing anything someone is allowed to do there is completely irrelevant to those who play official. Changing server options tho- Like 24/7 Day, accelerated day/night, Reconnect Delay, etc. will not do anything to cause harm beyond realm of that serever. it does however, mean those who dont like how this game plays at night arent Forced to play something they despise, while at the same time it does not prevent those who enjoy creeping around in the pitch black from doing so on another server.

Fair enough. Suppose different experiences have colored our viewpoints differently :) For me coming into gaming at a time when Server operatiors were generally the end of the line in authority for what goes on in that server. thats just how it was. Half the experiences was interacting with these clans/guilds/communities and seeing how they interact with eachother. Some were ver welcoming, some competitive, some elitists, some catering to certain nice playstyles, etc. but for me it was this meta content that really drove the expereinces. This is what i loved about the arma series even Pre-dayZ. all bugs aside it was a framework that comunties built thier own thing around. this is what the mod became soon as private hives started to proliferate. And I loved it. Every bit of it. Sure, there are people who abuse it when given total controll of thier servers- but theres always people who abuse things- that's not a reason to ruin a golden opportunity for thousands of players and dozens of communities to create a plethora of unique experiences. as it was in the 80 and 90's as it should be now- if you feel mistreated by the host - LEAVE THE SERVER and stop playing there. for some reason in the last 10 years everyone wants PC games to become like console games where ever server and match is identical in every way to the last and the player base has no options or control to expand on it or grow.
-
Those communities are among the best parts of what made the mod great imho. I seriously dont see why its bad for people to be able to provide more user content for people to enjoy. More options, which in turns attracts a variety of different players, explands the variety and everyone benefits.

If they can't cater to the people who play on thier server, If they cant give pirority access to those who fund that server, there is no reason to rent one. at all. ever. This isnt a mod. this is a retail title! No one should be paying for the "priviledge" of providing servers to pubbers. if they cant customize server settings then just do away with them entirely and make rocket pay for them out of his freaking profits.

Sorry to hear it might get banned for you :( first i've heard about this, tho in all fairness i dont keep up with the news to much these days. Have a link to post/article/interview? im sure a few of my aussie friends would be interested.

I wish we were forced to interact with others to survive...

I would like more things to increase the meta. Things that increase the Incentive to work together in a meaningful way: More then baracading, full construction ala Epoch- but minus the permanent indestructable safe and AI trader which sort of break the gameplay balances. Bases that if you can devote hundreds of man hours to crafting and construction become veritable fortresses to both player and zed alike!Farming/Primitive agriculture. Perhaps the only sustainable way to "cut ties to big cities". will require such effort and time investement to maintain that it basicly mandates large clan/squad play.Increased zombie population, But only once they "play by the rules" anything solid for me must be solid for them. a leap must alway be a leap. players need to be able to anticipate and dodge leaps and escape aggro. this will not work with the current proximit zed respawn mechanic at all.Higher value assets Like urals and even a heli or APC style transport (without guns) that require an enormous team effort to repair and operate! With all of that said- i am 100% AGAINST anything that EVER FORCES YOU TO PLAY A CERTAIN WAY or kills-off a certain play-style. -
Okay. Make it so i dont get caught in fences that cant be seen at night because lighting in the engine blows. easily solution is to just not make the NVGs work with scopes like in most weapon in the mod. but if the NVGs to help me avoid getting stuck on objects in the dark when running from zed or spotting people as i move theres no value for me to go to NWAF or so other hi risk area looking for them. they become 100% dispensible to me if i can onyl use it to scan the fields before moving. edit: numbers are just a rough guestimate, but it is very clear when you see almost all servers at night with extremely low player counts and 24/7 daytime servers stay full. THE PLAYERS PREFER DAY. simple as. It's not about realism, it's not about learning to play. when more then HALF ealily more then freaking HALF of players will go out of thier way to avoid playing at night it must stay that server owners can opt to not have day/night cycle. if you want to be a uber hardcore RPer go play a 24hr cycle server with your mates. the majority of players should not be forced into playing at night so the small minority who like irt get more entertainment at those people's expense.

Like the idea in general, but a few things- on point #1, I want them to be a threat too- But right now they're just off and that must be fixed before they are made any stronger. Leap attacks must always work the same. hit detection must be consistent. No phantom hits when zombie is not in physical strike range! also i think you need to be able to loose them by killing them off or leaving. Right now the constant proximity respawn makes it game breaking! they should respawn around certain areas not the player- this results in immediate re aggro of the zombie you just killed. TL;DR make them hard but also make them "play by the rules" reliably and legitimate "outs" to survive aggro that can be used with some reliability. On point #2, Agree 100%. this helps all Play-styles and results in more emergent game play. One problem with the mod was the ability to gear up once and live for ever in the woods with no interaction or risk. Im all about thing that generate more interaction of all kinds and doesnt expressley penalize any one playstyle over another. On Point #3, Like it accept for the infection, Unless means of testing is common enough that it's not an absolute pain to exist for one more hour. One of the problems i had with infection mechanic in the vanilla mod was they never managed to keep a good balance of Risk of infection Vs. Availability of cure. I cant name the number of times you would get infected, then in the process of loot farming anti-bios get 3 firends infected. If its better of time-wise to just die then deal with infection thats what people will do. and on #4 Like i said, nice idea as long as its readily avilable so that one can expect to get the pure "vitals" still within an hour or so at most. setting up everyone for a constant chan of failure as a result of necessities being rare as gold will only result in resentment.
-
part trolling but also pointing out that you can have nice things that can be ballanced. this idea that we have to make everything suck or nerf all weapons, tools, gear to hell is silly. the only reason it didnt work in mod was because of duping. if you fix the storage this time so rarity is a viable balance mechanism as can be difficulty of access/time invested.
-
That would totally devalue NVGs. seriously? do some people just want to be constantly miserable in the SA? i have an idea. let them play 27/7 night with only food and mele in the loot table. I know i've made a few troll-y suggestions like Hinds and tanks, but seriously. NIGHT TIME IS CRAP IN THE SA. the sheer fact that 90% of people would rather change servers 5 times to find a daytime one then play night is testiment to that. I dont care how realisitic or unrealistic night time is, if 80% of players would rather re organize on another server then play at night you need to consider that maybe, just maybe, it's not an enjoyable element to a majority of your players.

I really wan't THIS. 1 Per serverRequires a TON of fuelHas avanaced optics if avionics repared fully but require specialty tools and electronics compnents salvages from chopper wrecksShells for nose gun spawn Loose (single rounds) HE he shells only in NWAF and chopper wrecks EXTREMELY RARE. takes 6 gears slots per round to carry.Missile takes 12 slots to carry (or in hands replacing primary). so you can only ever carry 1. maybe a 2% chance to spawn a single one in any given chopper crash.

if they add GPS i want a Jaevlin with thermal mode and top-down attack options :) no more roof top saftey for campers. ever. again.

@ OP the vast majority of people who are accused of "hacking" are not hacking. There is a big difference between abusing a game flaw (exploit) and hacking (Using code/scripts/macros/etc) to make the game behave in unintended ways. In the case of exploits the fault lays squarely with the fact that this is an alpha and many many things have not been sorted or finalized yet. EG a error in model that you can "glitch" thru the wall from a certain position to shoot out from a normally un reachable location. this is an exploit. Hackers have actually porven ver very rare compared to the mod, and for that im thankful. i hope that as bugs are adddressed there will be less and less abusable exploits.

Dirty Rotten Bandits [DayZ Mod, EPOCH, *PVP FOCUS*] [TS3]

Come kill everything! supporting both mod and SA! -
The server hopping is a by-product of thier attemp to force people to "experience" thier broken night-time gameplay. people dont like it. People are paying for the servers should be able to opt to not force that on thier players. Im okay with preventing ser-hoping this is obviously exploiting a fundemental nature of an online game with multiple servers. restriciting servers from doing 24/7 day, 24/7 night, accelerated or slowed down cycles, etc. is all a bad thing tho.
-
I cant think of any Large MMO thats run for 8+ years let alone over a decade that hasnt had some form of scandal or miscunduct by an employee at some point. To this day tho reimbursements are rare, very little and in most cases nothing is done to prevent player orginizations manipulating the economy or other aspects to thier advantage. Meta play is best play in any persistent worl IMHO. the moment the devs start trying to make you adjust yojur playstyle to suit thier vision the watter becomes muddied, atleast that's my POV.
-
+1 also keep in ind that most can actually acheive this by jacking it up on the monitor it's self, rendering any attempt to restrict valid video adjustment options pointless.
-
my feelings pretty much. They really should take CCP's lead here and try to stay Hands' off as much as possible- not steering game play. "heres the tool and the mechanics have a blast" philosophy. considering that theres multiple servers to choose from leaving Day/night cycle and speed of them if present a server option would be cool with me. Im sorry but if only 1 in 100 players want to play at night maybe you just need to finde a niche server or accept that the way night is in this game isnt an enjoyable aspect. the majority shouldn't be forced to play a certain way for the enterttainment of a miniscule minority.

DayZ is a paradox game - Random thoughts
xalienax replied to cuddly_rabbit's topic in General Discussion
When cars get in and presistent storage clan = death irrelevant. thats who it should be tho, imho. your reawrd for working together is that your mates can gome get you and your insta re-geard at base. its called teamwork. -
What I predict DayZ will achieve by the end of the year.

well. its funny. my previous build was based on a dula-core office machine off the shelf with a ATI HD5770 + AMD Athlon II X2 215. stock clocks, and it got 15-20 fps occasionaly drops to 10 in cities. "Playable" but meh. I now have I7 3770, 2x nvidia GTX 780 SLI, 12GB corsair DDR3 ram. i still Get stutters.i average a stable 80-90FPS in the SA with most settings cranked up. but the texture pop and frame hangs in cities still happen. using hardware mointoring tools i never come close to peaking my CPU, GPUs, or VRAM. its just poor optimization with the current build. If your rig does what you want right now, i would suggest you wait a bit and see. if SA is pretty much your only reason for needing an upgrade it will likely get better once thier done bug fixing and can focus more on performance optimizations.
