    Yesterday I played the Mod after 200 hours of Standalone.

    It would be okay if they werent intent on witteling down and taking away from the mod. every gun, every car, ever bit of functionality and option avilable in the mod should be in the SA. (DMR, NVGs, MK38 MOD-0, M249SAW) ALL in the MOD. and the work. HELIS in the MOD and they work. WITH GUNS, and thst fine. i shot down 2 in a VANILLA server TONIGHT. with the LMG looted from NWAF. The mod seems to embrace the idea that it took place in a formerly war-torn country where weapons are everywhere. SA seems to want us to think they all evaporated and go full on bare bones forest survival bear grylls edition. i can appreciate that perhaps some people like that, but i think the mod has more flavor as a result of it all being there bot no one aspect is pushed harder then the others down your throat.
  2. which is just stupid imho. if everyone had thier way 99% of people would stop playing. As a developer you have to find a balance between realism and fun game play that both imersive and challengeging without being unduly frustrating/aggervating. Games that try to give everyone what they want for the sake of selling more copies end up making no one happy because it ends up into a disjointed "theme park" that has no rhyme or reason and no unique flavor of its own.

    this anti-mod sentiment is really annoying. The mod had it's shortfalls. zombies hit thru walls at times. hackers were an issue. KoS was always a thing. But you know what? this thing evenyone heeps thumbing thier nose to "Arma With zombies" WENT VIRAL. People Loved it. and when SA was announced we hopped for a refined version with more of the same! Why cant we have LMGs? they worked fine in the MOD. Why cant we have realisitc weapon handling instead of crappy diserpsion and atachments? did fine in the MOD. More and more the SA seems to want to strip all the FUN out of what we played, and instead give us Dean's forest survival sim 2014. taking away everything and making people hate to risk anything wont stop KoSing. if anything it makes trolling others by ruining thier day more rewarding for those who view it that way. At the rate thier going they migh as well delete the entire map except for skalitsy island and make it L4D: Mele only addition. DayZ is ARMA II WITH ZOMBIES. THAT'S HOW IT SHOULD STAY. THATS WHAT MOD VETS FELL IN LOVE IWTH.

    Thus my suggestion that hommade pipe bomb-type IEDs could be used to disable the tracks. it may be slightly bending reality on the efectiveness of what an amature chemist can come up with from household supplies but still. obviously other liberties are taken with the handling of weapons for example, or the effects of eating that arent 100% simulating real life effects.

    I was refering more to the modern renditions. i know many military vehciles have been upgraded over the years. im not sure what the warri had when first put into service. Apparently the modern upgraded ones are similar to the US's stryker and Bradley in terms of tech and capabilities now (which are both much newer designs)

    Great post mate, beans to you. Always welcome diferent opinions and legitimate arguments with some kind of information or examples behind them. Simply stating opinions as facts or using one liners like "because alpha" or "LOL go play CoD" is simply childish and anoying.

    And this is exactly why i chose examples that were in circulation in the 60-70s. the T55 and BMP-2. more modern things like the Warrior, bradley, M1A2, and T90-D have very advanced targeting systems, reactive or compound armors, current electronics, and electronicly controlled engines.

    Myth. I still play the VANILLA mod heavily. same mechanics apply. if you allow squadding/clanning to be OP thats what people do. EVERY server as a few clans on it. the inability to log out with your vehicle also means that the onyl way to maintain any security is ENSURE no one else has air vehicles. of course, this means any other large group will be scowering the map for your air vehicles. you cant ver well sit there 24/7 gurading them, and once one is stolen they easily find your other stuff. It's actually a very nice self-balancing system in the meta aspect. by playing as a clan you hoarde everything, which in turns causes small squads to band together to counter your being the OP force on the server. you seed the means of your own destruction. also the argument that this makes it impossible to make camps is moot because you dont need them. you dont even need good gear something to murder a guy and enough food drink for a long hike and you fan out doing a grid search for enemy base in suspected area. Infact, most of the clan/squad players from the MOD do want squad fights up north again. its the influx of new bloood coming from other non-Arma titles that want easy kills.

Love that Pic. as an EVE player thats why i still play it. the celling is extremely hig and those with a decade infvested are not forced to meet on equal terms with newcomers (See: Sov, Super caps, Coalition politics, etc) The idea that i am some how ahead for all the time spent skilling and learning different aspect of the games and satying informed on player driven politics. At times it can me more over bearing then having a 2nd full-time job but so rewarding. #Bitter Vet gamers Rule

    end game cap is too low imho. personally? id like to see people group up into 10-15 man groups and making compounds the side of devils castle, weeks and weeks of work invested in that. i think there should be hig end mil gear. there should be some things that give an unfair advantage, and they should be an obscene pain to get hold of, let alone maintain or employ. this makes group play the ultimate OP thing. this promotes interaction and cooperation. the lone wolf would never be able to carry the means to build a massive compund able to stand up to a ural being rammed into it.

    Vehicles and thier states persist thru restart (inluding cargo/fuel/etc) no reason your make shift work shop cant stay as well. Also unless you completely remove any means to kill other players you will not defeat KoSing. ever. the dayZ experience is all about the idea that each player is dropped into this world can can choose to do as he or she pleases, no matter rather thats for good or evil. That said raising the value and time invetment of end game vehicles and content shifts the motivation away from coastal deathmatch up north in the hunt for clan bases and vehicles. You will not stop KoSing by making vehicles crap. you will not stop KoSing by making weapons weaker. you can however make extremely "valuable" things that will keep clans/squads occupied and fighting eachother instead of camping on the coast. this is what choppers, chopper crashes, and mil loot did in the mod.

    Agree with op to some extent. While i would love to see plenty of diversity and everything from rafts to tanks, there is something to be said for small scale simplicity. Having played the vanilla mod with a ver large clan and being force to take a ural convoy everywhere which offeres no element of stealth or suprise. The more dependant you become on increaingly large and difficult vehicles the more time and effort is diverted from your gooal into maintaining the means to get there.

    These are exactly the sort of mechanics i mean. simply to budge the massive hulk onto the reparied treds using 12-15 guys with a pully system and (very) heavy rope, and after all this it has space for 3, maybe 4 guys inside it. Also in an apocalypse where there is no military rescue unit on standby to come save your bacon if your "dead in the water" something as simple as pipe-bomb based IEDs could theoreticly diasble the tracks forcing it's crew with extremeley limited, precious few rounds to try and secure the area and rescue thier tank. this makes "home made" IEDs and incendaries that could be thrown onto it a viable counter. you dont need to necessarily exploidify the entire tank just take it out of the fight.

PVP will always be part of the game. the whole point of DayZ is that its Open world/Sand box. no rules no playstyle funneling thru development. every player is given an apocalyptic world in which to do what ever he or she chooses, be that for good or evil. Adding more conetent, especially enormously time consuming end-game stuff like full base building or hig end vehicles will simply shift the PvP from death match on the coast to squad/clan fight sup north for military and vehicle assets. The only way to ever cut it down would be to masively change the development philosophy towards trying to make players play a certain way- at wich point you might as well take the dayZ name of of it and call it something else because its just a zombie MMORPG then.

    If everyone were a good guy this wouldn't be dayZ. it would be an pure RPG. im sorry but if they put any effort into the audio you should have more then amble time to hide in a house from a tank before it even know your there. (you should hear it long before it can see you). with that said the extremely rare ammo means PvPers wont want to waste it blasting random houses in hoes that "maybe hes in that one" but rather use it for killing other groups' vehicles in squad fights.

    this is a Zombie apocalypse, so "typical" goes out the window :) and yes it does help. it means you and your mates can roll around chernarus immune to gunfire and zeds, and while you may almost never have ammo to spare for the dang thing, the fact that you can drive a freaking bullet proff barricade around DOES help your buddy safely loot more food

    Did you even read where i explain that it can be disabeled with improvised explosives, and would take a squad weeks to come up with only a few single shots for it? They are there to serve as zombie-immune rolling fortresses to protect it's occupants. youd really not want to fire a round you spend 3 days loot farming for on a fresh spawn.

    to TL;DR for you I made one of the concepts regarding the tank's offense extreme rarity. This of course relise some what on duping getting fixed completely. when you have to bound betwen the mil bases dozens of times to find ONE SHELL then walk to the building pick it up and carry it in hands (no abailit to defend self while doing this) and load it into your tank or storage, there wont be tanks roaving the country side lighting everyone up.

    I think thier viable, and tbh are much more interesting of a mechanic. I know some would like just bare bones but i like diversity. I think the idea of someone cutting metal from old buildings or vehicles and welding makeshift armor to a flatbed truck much more likely then the average civilian mainting say.. a huey with its turbojet engine
