1. If it's not dead, kill it. 2. if it's moving shoot it. 3. If it screams "friendly" shoot it again. 4. Do something really offensive right before it dies. 5. If you cant kill it, hop on teamspeak and call out for backup in killing of said target.

this a million times over. Many of the topics/complaints that get "ALPHA" responses are not about missing/incomplete features but DESIGN DECISIONS that the poster (and often many others) would not want to see make it to final release.

Hit detection is still absolutely abysmal.
xalienax replied to FrostDMG's topic in General Discussion
Accurate balistics, sway, stamina, etc. the skill should be YOU. the person at the mouse. yolur 'survivor' has no story but the one you create for him/her. maybe he was SWAT? maybe he was a force recon sniper? or maybe he WAS just joe the plumber. the game makes no assumptions one way or the other. we should not be modeling the ineptness of the character, as it's simply an extension of YOU. combat should not be left to luck, but to your percision and management of stamina. -

basicly. i guess a gimped cash grab is the "rocket's vision" everyone seems to think is some sort of divine edict. rofl. I have already uninstalled the SA from my drive and give it 10-15% or less hopes of ever being worthy of a re-install in my eyes. i'll continue enjoying the mod tho which thanks to 3rd party modders is doing as well as ever. -

sadly this is what dayz has become. thier stupid exagerated dispersion cones and attachment stats combined with dodgy hit detection. way to go rocket and BIS. you spent so much time trying to take arma's gunplay out of dayZ that you've completely broken an element that was 100% functional as is and needed no further work. -
Is there an ACTUAL friendly server? Or does anyone...
xalienax replied to UltimateGentleman's topic in General Discussion
untill private hives are intorduced, server owners can do nothing to enforce any standards of gameplay. as such- any server with "noob friendly", "No PvP", "Friendly community", etc or the like will only attract more d-bags then usual looking for easy "bambis' to kill. -
basicly this. Griefing and meta play has been in dayZ from the beginning. rather you do it or hate it its there. be mindful that it is a thing. if you choose to do something that singles you out as a target you certainly arent entitled to special treatment

to all the people saying "log off" your a huge part of whats wrong with this game. its that very kind of "take the easy way out" mentality that leads to almost no one doing hold ups, ransoms, etc like we seen in the mod (dont get me wrong mod had TONS of KOS too and its just a part of the game). I've long since given up trying to have any kind of fun with victims because they all just combat log or go suicidal rambo. no reward for taking the effort/risk so anyone who has somethign i want gets killed. anyone who gets in my way gets killed. anyone who might be a threat later gets killed. with that little rant done, Props to both OP for sticking it out and his attackers for doing something other then blasting him in the face while camping in a city.

Ghosting is an exploit of the global hive system which saves your character and position across all servers. Basicly if soemone is in a superior psoition (say 2nd floor of a house covering the only way inot the building) you can log out, go to another server and move into that house on the 3rd floor. you then switch back to the first server and shoot your target from behind as he/she is assuming no on could have gotten past thier camping position.

Dont forget in the newer generation many (not all, but a fair few) girl gamers have been more then happy to exploit that sympathy. to some extent i think many pretty much expect anyone in a video game with a female voice to screw them over based on that. (this is much more prevalent in persistent MMOs like everquest, WOW, EvE, etc but i can see the same sentiments being carried over to dayZ)
-
First off, Dont let it get to you. Many use "atention whore" or any of those other accusations you mention as a means to justify what they were going to do anyways. Second, altho you may have not done anything wrong there are plenty of female players who DO exploit any sympathy thier shown based on thier gender, and this isn't a problem explusive to dayZ. it's an unfortunate side effect of human nature but it comes almost naturally to many of us to make sweeping generalizations after some bad expereinces. it's kind of that old addage about a few bad apples ruining the bunch. your almost labeled (unfair as it may be) based on the expereiinces and stories about what others have done. Third, There are more female players then most realize. A fair few choose not to interact/communicate wit randoms for the very reasons the op brings up. My wife also plays but only talks over TS or skype within our group never in the In-game chat for pretty much this exact reason. to be compleetly honest; i dont balme her (or you) one bit for not wanthing to be subject to a bunch of immature pre teen kids acting like jerks (more then usual) because they heard your voice. TL;dr - Don't let a few asshat kids ruin your fun. move on and try to enjoy the game. perhaps try looking for a regular group to play with (doesnt have to be a formal clan or antyhing, just a few friends or something) and chat that way. sad fact is this sort of behavior is all over the internet and internet tough guys love finding an easy excuse for thier actions.

Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
xalienax replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
i dont like the behavioir in general tho. the idea that the juke n jive dance is the preferred meathod to deal with them. Stealth/Sneaking and silently eliminating ones that get to close should be much, much more effective. (id like to see crawling towards towns with a crossbow favored over dancing for example) -
Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
xalienax replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
thats one of my biggest gripes about the SA zombies (aside from pathing thru buildings) is that there is no longer ANY sort of smar or strategic gameplay involved in beating or avoiding them. it's just run in backwards circles flailing at them like an idiot till they die because even if you brone the have the same dang detection range. I liked in the early days of the mod coming to a dead stop prone in a field and letting the zombies pass before contining on. -
It's getting lonely and barren in NWAF
xalienax replied to TheWizard14's topic in General Discussion
again, increased availablitity does not = good reason to complicate regoruping with your clan/squad. go to a short reset server with less then 15 players and you can easily gear up at NEAF. Add high-end mill spawns to NWAF (see: FNFAL, AR's with M203, LMGs, DMR, M24, etc) and people will go there in droves. simply having a few more millitary loot buildings does not justify the hike right now. especially since theres no persistent way to stockpile like in the mod. -

xalienax replied to TheWizard14's topic in General Discussion
there more there, not better items. NEAF is just better picked over. you can find anything avilable at those places at NEAF (especially on low-pop servers that arent picked over) NWAF and balota should have completely different loot tables with items that DO NOT SPAWN anywhere near the player spawn areas, ever. that will push people inland right now the only benefit of ging inland is some novelty attachments and if i die along the way that much harder to meet back up with the crew. most clans are staying centeralized nears spawns because they CAN get everything there, especially considering most loot farm for what they need anyways. -
It's getting lonely and barren in NWAF
xalienax replied to TheWizard14's topic in General Discussion
the problem isnt respawns, it's that the actual items at NWAF arent better then those at NEAF. Mill spawn is mill spawn. why go far for something i can get close? Theres no Perisistent storage Theres no Vehicles The items in the near-coast mil bases are the same as inland. so to sumarize, going inland means when you die it's that much further to find your buddies again. no reasont o go inland. nothign special there. sorry. -
It's getting lonely and barren in NWAF
xalienax replied to TheWizard14's topic in General Discussion
basicly this. aslo for anyone who plays with a clan going deep inland just means longer to regroup after death. all the action is at the costal cities and so is all the gear. there is nothing at NWAF i cant get at balota or NEAF in half the time and have pvp action rigth at my fingertips. -
So there are well known issues with server hoping and loot-farming. there has been since the dawn of the mod, and i (personally) think that there needs to be more clever use of the "random" loot locations the mod used (choper crash). Now i know rocket said they didn't want to do random events for what ever silly reason, but i dont care about rocket- I care about gameplay quality, and i think this is a mechanism worth revisiting. It allows us to start considering rarity as a real balance mechanism again (especially for weapons). Now first, let me explain how i think weapons should relate to accessibility and avilability; By moving everything in the "red" section (and the ammo + Mags) for them into randomly generated events such as heli crash/wrecked army truck, etc. we solve several key issues -> High power weapons are an option, but intensive to get ammo for them -> We reward people who traverse the map with not just MORE loot, but BETTER loot. -> We prevent the ability to FARM top-end gear by server hoping in one location. Aditionally the stuff in the Yellow section should be oposite the spawn areas on the map. -> basic pistols (dark green) should be somehwat avilable near spawns as a form of self defense. -> Hunting/Sporting gear and weapons (light blue) should be in outlying towns/villages. this makes sense geographicly and encourages an inland progression. -> Police/Military-police/Low-end mil (yellowish green) beocmes increasingly dispersed througout the interior of the map (perhaps checkpoints, smaller encampments setup during the spread of the virus) *edit: I didnt include the wide variety of mele weapons as most of them are common implements and should neither be rare sor time consuming to find. most are widley available household items that would be EVERYWHERE in any town or city. Bows would fall into the nearby "hunter/sporting" category.

Also having no-shared ammunition helps with this. if say the as50 only take AS50 magazine and .50BMG rounds guess what. make .50BMG very low spawn rate. suddenly it doesnt matter if thiers 500,000,000 AS50's in circulation when hitttiing 200+ spawn spots may yeild 10 rounds of ammo. you target the consumable end of the sepctrum (ammo) not just the weapon.
-
Im not saying they shouldnt be contextual. military in military compunds for sure. what i AM suggesting is that the further that compound is from the spawn area the better stuff it will have. EG; NEAF and balota barracks having basic assault rifles where as NWAF would have high end stuff like military snipers and LMGs
-
Thats the reward for dedication. if you wish to spend 10hrs a day combing the maps and maintintg helis on 3 different servers to do it with so you can heli crash hunt ever server restart your rewarded with access to better stuff, ath the price of having to maintain a motorpool to circulate the map in a timely manner and put an inordinate amount of time into keeping an ammo supply for your weapons. and all of this doesnt stop some lucky freshie with an M4 caping you and taking that AS 50

The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)
xalienax replied to alexeistukov's topic in Suggestions
yes and i think they should be in. so should LMGs for that matter, but the ammo must be rare and precious so those choosing to use them have to pick thier fights carefully. -
Added poll on the matter of expanding on "randomly generated lootsites". also edited to acknowledge mele and crafted weapons.

Im talking about Weapons much better then anything in-game at the moment. Im sory but something that can 1hk you from 800+ reliably with a bodyshot should be extremely rare. this is the thing you pull out to take out a camper from across town or from a hillside. eg; Cheytac M200 M107 AS50 KSVK any sort of "heavy weapons" really. -
The Community's List of Suggested Weapons for Dayz Standalone (Version: 1.29)
xalienax replied to alexeistukov's topic in Suggestions
We need correct caliberes and magazines, not just for realism but also to to control balance. More unique ammunition types mean mor possibility to control the usage of certain weapons that are extremely powerful. EG. you can have extremely accurate 1HK weapons that are suddenly not so popular because one may have to hunt thru dozens of chopper crashes to find a round or two for it (let alone a magazine). by seperating the spawns of gun, mag, and ammo you can also promote people traveling between locations and make server hoping a single location less viable (without excessively penalizing leaving a server for a valid reason, like to join a firends game, or because of a hacker, or bad performance) Also, this brings into questions "random" proceedually spawned vehicle wrecks like army trucks and helis crashes and putting the extremely top end stuff there rather then fixed buildings. it makes server hoping pointless, as they aren't always going to be in the same place but randomly generated on server restarts. Im kind of going on a tangent here but this ties back in with the idea of less shared ammo as it make the player have to actively WORK for the ammo if they want to use this high-end military gear. combing the map for these wrecks, only to get to one and its the wrong ammo type! those 3 bullets in your pocket are suddenly as valuable as gold in this scenario.
