Have you ever given guns and ammo to freshspawns?
xalienax replied to HeroAtDay BanditAtNight's topic in General Discussion
or just shoot them in the face with said gun... thats always an option. -
Inequity is the driving force in dayZ. It's the very reason to cooperate or compete. if everyone just had all they want of everything it would be COD with a really big map. better things should be rarer making those who have them a target, threat, or potential asset if thier part of your group. dayZ is NOT and arena shooter, and it never should be.

In mod we used to stock tents fulla ammo and guns near spawnpoints for lulz. bambi wars ftw. -
still my #1 hatelist item for SA. Optics effecting the actual ballistics is 100% un-acceptable. you should not be penalised with reduced mechanical accuracy when using irons over an optic for ANY REASON EVER.

EXP - Map now shows the players exact position
xalienax replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
I hope it stays as another differentiation between normal and hardcore. many mod servers had map waypoints and position on map sown. i have no problem with it at all. realism nuts go play hardcore. -
I really dont get the point of bambi killing.
xalienax replied to Acher0n's topic in General Discussion
find some regs to play with. the public community is pure rubbish. shoot anyone you see because they'll shoot you first chance they get. i suggest you harden up and get cold fast. -
I guess im a killer. (big surprise) I always seek out PvP and combat anywhere i can, but more important then just a body count, i like the clan meta-game and executing the perfectly laid trap or ambush. its about besting and out-Smarting the opposition. one of the big things i miss from the mods was the coming and going fo clans from servers to compete for total dominion (normally in the forms of helicopters, the best mil gear, and then destroyign other teams and driving them from the server, untill this very fate befalls them and so it goes.

Ze bandits shall be out in exceptional force this weekend....

Indeed. When almost every other married guy i know is getting griped by thier wives at to get off the PC, im quite happy that the worst i have to worry about is mine shooting me for a gun lol.

Everyone is out for them selves (See funny story at the endif you have time*) People care more about your gear then you. your character him/herself means nothing to no-one. Be prepared to die be proficient with anything. don't be dependant on finding that one weapon or needing certain gear just to get by. Be bold, but smart. Play too cautious you'll miss out, go full retard and you'll never make it out of your starting city. When in doubt opt to play it safe. In all most all cases it will take longer to find your way back and meet up with your buddies then if you had just taken a pass on that uncertain encounter. *Funny storry for those with too much time; So I had just gotten my hands on some ammo for my LRS mosin; Meanwhile my wife who was playing with me at the time was apparently having a zombie problem over at the old 2 story (back when the NEAF was military) so I head over there and and fire axe a few zombies all the time yellin at her to stop firing that dam SKS. with the zombies gone i mention that i now have ammo and we can camp this place out. she looks at me and says "thats good im almost out". quick to reply, im like "no way you gettin my mosin".... "You are dead" to the sound of heather laughing her ass off in the next room.... guys, when I say EVERYONE is out for them selves in this game, I mean EVERYONE.

Please add slow (Romero-style) zombies as a server option.
xalienax replied to rudiger650's topic in Suggestions
basicly this. tho its not likely possible with this engine (performance wise) i would really like slow methodical zeds that given time will grapple up ladders, stairs, anywhere you can go. and lots of them. so many that you could have an inventory full of ammo and run out before killing half of them! Altho you could easily run away in the open, cities would become extremely dangerous. Make too much noise looting and look up to find every entrance blocked by 30+ zombies and 500 more slowly staggering towards the building. -
How active is the vanilla DayZ mod community?
xalienax replied to SixZoSeven's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
to the OP; Very few true vanilla servers left, and even less populated. last time i checked US3480 was still up and running but it's been a while. In all fairness i have to defend Epoch just a little; The concept is solid. While its surely a divergence from the more "bare bones" of vanilla i do like the appeal of a more "factionalized" road-warrior style dayZ with epic clan bases and military style weapons and vehicles. its more of a 48hrs after **** hit the fan sort of scenario. Unfortunately, as you stated, so many servers are subject to admin abuse or P2W donor packs (one Epoch server offers spawn at NWAF with an apache helicopter for 35$ a month) and THIS is what gives mods like epoch a bad name. In fact, the same can be said for the mod in general. very few GOOD servers vanilla or otherwise that don't offer redicuolous donator perks. the biggest killer for me when my old clan did run official mod (public hive) was that the hosting agreement provented us from being allowed to use any 3rd party anti-cheats, detection, or admin tool (Eg. Gotcha, BEC, etc). I realize there are badmins who abuse, but BE's "wave banning" is NOT nor ever will be an acceptable for a game like this. active admins needs tools to spot and detcect and then BAN based on thier own observations and discretions. not in a week or a month. right here, right now in real time. right before rolling back and un-dooing all that the hacker/cheater accomplished. -
Deer Stands - What Do You Want To Spawn There?
xalienax replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
THIS IS A PANZERSCHRECK, IT SCHRECKS PANZERS!!!11! no reason other then i want to carry one of these around and aim at zombie/players feet and watch them fly thru the air after teh explosion as i yell "TROLOLOLOLOL" in direct -
I endorse this message. T-90 or BUST xD

the number of people you saved doesn't matter to us either. All is well. rivaly breeds content and takes the boredom out of what is the standalone right now, with its general lack of content to progress towards. I'd much rather hoarde the helicopters and build a massive fortification ala epoch bases; but failing high end loot, vheicles, or proper construction system ritght now im happy to keep entertained shooting you xD

Those of you who have been here for any amount of time probably will recognize me as being one of the more outspoken bitter cynics when it comes to dayZ Standalone, often posting wall-o-Text topics about all thats wrong and horrible in the world of game development. Well today for the first time in a few months i let the wife persuade me to get back on the SA for a bit and i have to say, I found a few things pleasently surprising. 1. FPS generally more steady. Despite having a "high end" machine, when i left i would get Freeze-Frame stutters as zombies spawn in in large cities. Altho FPS is still massivley lower in large city then wilderness, it does feel over-All less choppy and jittery. I can deal will consistently low FPS in an area, but the old "stuttering" and massive changes up and down were very aggervating, especially if trying to use a mele weapon against a zombie. This now seems a non-issue (on my machine anyways) 2. Zombie pathing considerably better they may not be fixed completely yet, but i was happy to see them using the door just like me rather then running full-tilt thru solid concrete. they have a long way to go before i can say im 'Happy' with them, but this is a massive improvement for gameplay quality already. 3. Weapon handling does feel more consistent. This may be in part due to the better performance, cant really say for 100% sure, but it does feel as tho my rifle is going where im trying to point it more now. (it's quite possible that some of my issues previously were due to FPS drops not having my screen in "synch" with where my gun was actually aimed at time of firing.) further testing will be needed to confirm. 4. Effects toned down a bit? again theres a huge array of factors that play inot a user's visual expereince (in-game settings, PC hardware, Monitor and its settings, etc) but i do feel as tho the excessive "bloom" in daytime has been tonned down just a hair, which is much less anoying on the eyes. TL;DR I remain skeptical of many gampleay decisions being made, but am delighted to see a few core issues have had significant improvement in a few short months.

Save The Trees Man! Marginalized Wilderness
xalienax replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
I really dont like the increasing urbanization of the map. i really could care less about how faithful it remain to the real-world area portrayed, but i do have serious gameplay concerns about forcing more and more players into a close urban environment. -
this is another little Irk. even i was beginning to wonder wtf was going on lol ( i dont live on SA and therfore dont have a running memory of dates and times :P) you know that "early access alpha" in red on your main menu, should be followed by SERVER MAITENANCE EVERY TUESDAY whatever-whatever GMT Little things like that would go a long ways. just like having a serchable blog-style news page on dayzgame.com rather then posts here n there with links to off-site sources such as tweets and reddit. stop gving people so much credit for being smart and expecting them to seek out information before ragepost. i learned this early on in EvE. you want people to show up make sure they get spammed with info and form-up times/dates. Channel MOTDs, Headers in voice servers, etc this stuff isnt rocket sicence. (Lol pun) its community management 101. the more non-effort you make it be to stay informed, the more informed your community is, and the less redundant/raging posts over and over.
-
No offense taken mate. My issue, with "early access" and "alpha" sales as that there is no hard and fast legal precedents for consumer recourse. Even within steam's own Early access program, as far as im aware there is no TOS or rules in place that specificly state how long a project can remain in "early access" state nor any established mandate for reimbursement in the event that the project gets canceled or released "as is" at a later date with still game-breaking issues. in short, my gripe with the early access concept is it gives developers and publishers a free pass to charge for an un-finished project, then release it when ever they wish- in any state they wish (even if its still broken) and you as a consumer are basicly shafted. im not accusing dayZ secificly here, but there entire concept is easily abused by greedy publishers- im sure anyone with half a brain can see that.

with all due respect, the OP was a declaration of war against a clan- not a request for a Fair 'n square arena-style face off. Long has been the tradition of clan combat in DayZ much like how it is in EVE. Use every avilable means to make your oponent rather quit/go elsewhere then deal with you day after day. that is the goal. Advance the position of your own at the expense of all outsiders.
-
sweet cold vengance. I have always loved the clan meta-game and fight for server domination. Raiding bases, infiltrating the enemy, using every available means to make them rather go elsewhere then tangle with you and your crew.
-
Firstly, I've been in closed alpha's before. you know- back when you had to sign up for them and the point was to get a wide cross section of testers with different background and systems for bug and performance testing. After this and serveral other bad expereinces I will NEVER buy early-access again as I now hold an opinion that its a horrible concept. I would go so far as to say alpha testers are efectively voluenteers at best, and selling an unfinished product should be downright unlawful. with that little tangent out of the way, most of the gripes that come up time and time again are largely design decisions Not simply features missing due to this game being in an alpha state. While we did all agree to the little pop up the people who come on every complaint thread and imediately accuse you of "whining" or just scream ALPHA!!!11!1 are downright idiotic. The purpose of an alpha SHOULD be for testing and development, and to recieve feedback from your testers. That includes negative feedback about perfofmance, bugs, and even gameplay elements that the tester sees as undesireable. Ultimately with any game like this the audience consists of many people with many different viewpoints, and it is important to take them all into account to produce a quality- while at the same time maintain enough vision to avoid becoming one of those crappy watered down titles that tried and failed to please everyone and anyone. I tend to be a very cynical person, and have well-established views on what makes the core gameplay of dayZ from my time in the MOD. altho the SA may improve in little ways here and there, most of us (and certainly me personally) are not willing to see a MAJOR shift in gamplay styels from how it was in the mod. but even with my nature, i felt the need to atleast acknowledge that there has been improvements made. SA is a long way from anything that will be able to keep me logging on night after night for 5+hours sessions like the mod does tho.
-
Yeah. even tho im still highly critical of some choices they have made/continue to make, its nice to see at least a few of the major game-breakers have gotten much needed atention.
-
i dont think we need anymore then the good ol' 60 and only once performance is fixed properly. You SHOULD be able to wonder for a few hours between encounters imho. it makes the environement in my eyes. the last thing i want is having 20 fire fights break oout between every single town, city, and village. 100P server would need a map 2x or more the size of current chernarus imho
