Death in Dayz, how do you meet it?

Mostly glitches, or a situation that was made worse by a glitch. about once every 15 or so days sounds about right- tho to be honest i dont log nearly the sort of hours that some do.
  2. I like it OP :) It would have to be reasonable tho... for example an AKM (made entirely of wood and metal) would likely not be harmed by being run over. Throwing a flare in admidst assorted loot should not harm anything thats not inherently flamable/meltable

1st person only for copters and cars

poll is biased. I think Hardcore/ 1PP only servers that should apply vehicles and people on foot equally. if a guy on foot can used 3pp on a 3rd person enabeled server to peek a wall and see my car's exact position, i too should be able to use 3pp to look around and see anyone potentially trying to ambush me.

    Cannibals Recognition Suggestion

I think a some blood spatter would be good- but it should be related to ALL gutting and mele combat- not just humans. Realisticly bashing a deer/pig/possibly a zombie's face in with blunt-force trauma would make a bloody mess. it would be a clue the someone all bloodied was likely in recent combat- but not imediately tell you the nature of that combat

World War II era gun emplacements

flack tower? ive never actually seen one...

The struggle when you look too sexy.

Unfortunately in the current iteration of the game there is no real 'late-game' or 'end-game' content. while the mechanics are improving the timescale and scope are still kinda limited and i dont feel like loosing gear is a huge deal right now. I do still genuienly hope for an extremely hard and brutal dayz with content/mechanics designed around the idea of characters surviving months at a time. then when you die and loose a month or more of work/progress it will feel like a real loss. the extreme weight of risk imho would also cut down on the rambo TDM style gameplay as well.

Cannibalism - Lets make it USEFUL

Pretty much i agree 100% Staying fed should either >Require Some form of interaction (Perhaps trading, perhaps hostile) to obtain resources from others >Require Extreme amount of travel and scavenging to find barely enough resources to make it to the next find (if your lucky) >Perhaps small scale agriculture, but again would require tons of work and hours of effort, likely over multiple play sessions to establish and get it up and working.

The People of DayZ (What Makes You Special?)

the Name's Sovetsky PvP player/Opportunist/Bandit Been making the rounds in chernarus even before the mod was a thing. These days, i have become somewhat bitter towards 'randoms' and anyone with any means of offense is considered a valid threat. forunately; i have taken to exploiting these individuals for my own gains. let these poor fools do the scavenging and looting then, when the opportunity presents it's self, ambush and take anything i please from a corpse. Together with my wife and a few misfits we have known from other games for several years, we roam the countryside benefiting from other's misfortunes ;)

Cannibalism - Lets make it USEFUL

I would like the rate of thirst and hunger slowed significantly, but on the flip side of that everything (including food) to be a SUPER scarce comodity. Id like to see it to where finding a non-spoiled piece of food once an hour is an achievement and actively scvenging/raiding for supplies is a necessity of basic sustinance. every piece of good food should be as valuable as high-end military loot. Lets go balls deep and push that risk/reward factor thru the ceilling! "i can carry this can of food or a magazine for my m4"... you should have to put serious thought into this as actual starvation and death if you leav behind a ohh-so-scarce food item is a real possibility.

Pffft i remember why im a Bandit.

cry more? It's infinately easier to just ambush someone and take what u need from a corpse then it is to negotiate with unknowns
  11. xalienax

    Is It Possible?

    yesplz

Pffft i remember why im a Bandit.

no Impartial Studies that im aware of, Involving mentally healthy individuals have shown significant evidence of exposure to games or other media directly translating to them acting it out IRL. This does however, come with a big red warning label (that imho should be common sese) that feeding a steady diet of media that contains graphic violence, Bigotry, or other such content to those with pre-existing disorders (and possibly young children who have yet to have a well established world-view and morality) may lead to it spilling into the real world. Thier are a ton of various disorders/conditions (and these are only the ones that we can currently diagnose- mental health is still a rapidly evolving field) that can alter an individual's world view, sense of morality, and how things they expereince in various forms of media. Many possible combinations of theses may lead to an individual who can become heavily influenced by media.
  13. If it has gear shoot it. if it doesn't appear to be geared up, avoid making contact and alerting anyone to our presence.

lol. I wont lie, everyone i play with (and myself) are PvP Players. I dont mean Electro deathmatch PvP, but more like why loot and scavenge when other players can unwittingly 'bring' us the loot? Need stuff set up along one of the busy routes and ambush/kill anyone that looks remotely geared and take what you want from corpse. I've never been really into the whole betrayl thing. the very worst i'll do is play along untill were in a more remote area where im likely to not attract any zombies or other players in the process of killing you. That said from our little group of 6, my wife is absolutely evil when it comes to the whole cloak and dagger bit. she just genuinely just enjoys knowing she ruined someones day xD I'll nenver forget during one outing we found this kid who imediately started the 'firendly' bit. after a bit of negotiations he willingly come out of the police station. Fast forward about 2 hours, Heather has been playing this kid like a fiddle. (sounds like he's maybe 10-15 and desperately sucking up to her, offering almost every other thing he finds) at which point heather finds the much loved mosin. the kid eagerly offers her a few rounds for it.. and moments later i hear a single loud pop... followed by her giggling coming from the next room like a giddy school girl... and THIS is why you never trust anyone. As a general rule of thumb tho as a group, we'd rather make a clean kill, never giving our target opportunity to react or even know we're there. less chance of a messy shoot-out and tons of ruined gear.
  15. xalienax

Why are social interactions so scarce?

They do happen. far and few between tho. most quickly become bitter with getting cap'd and just trust in thier gun. welcome to the apocalypse where your can of food or your ammo is 10x more valuable then you are.

    Sandbox, "innovative" or "Undeveloped"

Old doesn't mean bad mate. EvE's formula works for EvE's players. It's a game about spending months and years building something up and progressing, cooperations, conflict, and betrayls. Eve still routinely hits 35-40k online. the fact that those who DO stick with ti often do so for many years is testiment to the fact that it does what ti does very, very well. it's definately NOT 'everyones game' and that's a good thing. The recent incidents of B-R5RB and -6VDT (and the fact that THOUSANDS of PLAYERS were involved) in the biggest battles of online gaming anywhere speaks volumes to that. As i said, it's NOT perfect. the "new player" expereince could use a TON of work- but to enjoy eve you need enormously long-term goals as a driving motivation. You start to think of EVE the way you do a career or such IRL. eg "One day i want to..." or "If i try real hard maybe in several years..." The real lessons to take from it, IMHO anyways, is that time and time again EPIC conflicts and stories have arisen from 100% un-scripted, un-planned events (as a result of emergent player interactions- not AI or scripted/planned events/storyline). and that's a direct result of the Hands-Off management philosophy and putting nearly everythign in the hands of the playerbase. Newer games looking to the 'sandbox' design could do a lot to learn from EVE. it's deep, with intricate mechanics that take literally YEARS to learn and put to practical use. A sandbox game isn't just the playable "physical space" but also the depth and investement into the mechanics.

    Sandbox, "innovative" or "Undeveloped"

First, EVE: Online is an amazing game. its what every 'sandbox' game should aspire to. all aspects of of the game from production, to economics, to politics, etc ALL 100% in the hands of the players. Yes, like every game it has flaws, and for better or worse it allows YOU to choose your OWN path. completely unscripted, un-regulated. you can lie, steal, greif, infiltrate, Meta-Game, Manipulate markets by attacking suppliers of a certain resource. it is by NO MEANS Underdeveloped. That said, Sand-box isn't the right choice for every game. and some employ it better then others. I think as players tho, we need to get away from the force-fed narritive expereinces that AAA titles have been shoving in our faces and start seeing (well made) sandbox games as an opportunity- for those with teh time, comitment, and intelligence to thrive and find ways to play the game world to THIER advantage. I don't think we can really say how well dayZ fit's into this scheme tho untill we see the finished product.

Well I've officially teamed up with a weed smoker.

heh bring back some.. interesting memories from my late teen years xD sadly i think id get banned from teh forums if i went into detail lol. on topic, i know a ton of ppl who play games drunk, high, or both on various substances. some you would never know if you didn't know them out of game. this guys probably just the most obvious encounter you've had.
  20. Unfortunately, as far as the A2 mod is concerned rocket only owned his original code and assets as far as most legal system are concerned. (Im not a lawyer, may vary significantly in some places). Several things killed the public hive mod imho; 1. the shared "hive" didnt really bring anything original to the table (outside of proof of concept), and was easy to exploit thru server hoping. 2. the lack of server owners to do ANYTHING (I was one for the record) coupeled with BEs horrible ban waves rather then instant banning, saw the infux of hackers. and exploiters. 3. It's a mod. People like different things, as long as thier not selling for profit I say good on em' for creating more options for players to choose from.
  21. pretty much my feelings. keep the weapons and weapons stats from A2. they made it better for being that way. i swear tho if they integrate console the way Warthunder did (console and PC players on same hive/servers) i'll flip ish. i seriously don't want a bunch more whiney pre-pubesecent self-entitled brats then we already have.
  22. xalienax

    I think it's time.

a few things i would like to see happen to push the game in a more hard-core direction; reduce the rate at which your character gets hungry/thristy BUT; -Massive reduction in food spawn rates. -Massive reduction in drink spawn rates. -Reduced medical supply spawns -More disease/infection types that require specific treatment for weapons ; -Give us proper, realistic ballistics already, dammit. -physical weapon sway that scales with degree of character exhaustion/stamina -More "loose rounds" and less "boxes" even in mil spawns. having 5 bullets should make you one of the lucky 1%ers even if you've been to NWAF on 10 servers. -Weapons spawning in worn and damaged states, prone to jamming reduced accuracy, other failures. (a "pristine" assault rifle should be worth its weight in gold and about a rare as a polka-dotted unicorn) and continued expansion of; -Hunting and hunting implements, traps, etc. -Harvestable/consumable vegetation -Improvised solutions for implements/gear and weapons alike. -Perhaps some form of *primitive* agriculture (theres no good reason that one couldn't take seeds from fruits/vegetables and cultivate them given time) this would again encourage more and more group play to establish some form of "base" with a renewable food source.

    Why...........(movement and avatar control)

i think alot of the lack of persepctive comes from the so called "alphas" that come with the pre-order scam these days. in terms of development stage, most of these alpha/betas you get keys to with pre order are infact release candidate builds or very near to. They are not still working on the engine and core framework. you are a guinnea pig being used for stress testing in most cases. the engine functions are finalized and stable, the netcode is in place, and its more or less "feature complete". DayZ on the other hand is in a true alpha state. core code on which everything else is reliant is still being modified and adjusted. key mechanics and features aren't even out of concept stage yet. I by no means like the current state of the game, and even hate some of the design decisions made by the devs, but some perspective is really needed.

    I'm angry at myself

truest words ever spoken in gaming. SO many times I see people rage quit a title because of a change, Or blame thier opponenet for 'dirty' tactics. The best players tho, can take the changes, adapt to them, and find new ways to use the mechanics at hand to thier own advantage. I'll often get fed up with patches, nerfs, etc and abandon something for a while but normally once a cooler head prevails I try to come back to it and learn again new ways to adapt. That perspective of blaming yourself does wonders for improving your level of skill.

    My response to dupers.

Actually i'll back the OP on that statement regardless. The world would actually be a better place if the wilfully ignorant, arrogant, and downright stupid DID infact just off themselves. Thses cheating kiddies just grow up to be the self entitled teens demanding what they want when they want, who later become the arrogant SOB's were all forced to put up with IRL every day. Extreme? maybe, but id like a little more quality and a little less quantity in all that is humanity.
