this snip. a million times this. Also yeah the tells were so obvious lol. i wouldn't be surprised if she were playing 'bait' for them the whole time. out of our little group we almost always have one of the ladies go initiate contact especially with groups. they do get consistently get treated differently based on nothing other then having a 'female voice'. might as well use that to advantage right? the number of times my wife has gone up to to random groups of kitted-out players yelling on the mic only to be offered all kinds of goodies and frequently guns with ammo included. the funniest encounter we've ever had with this was 2 kids.. sounded like maybe 10-15yrs old tops. heather was immediately invited to their skype chat and asked to tag along with them. it was hilarious when they started looting and kept trying to one-up each other offering her better gear >.< one of them ended up giving her the AKM she killed them with about 2 hrs down the line.

Public dedicated server that possible?
xalienax replied to adncriminel's topic in General Discussion
This doesn't even take into account that once that's done the community would be further fractured by communities that choose to run specific versions for one reason or another making it even harder to get reliable feedback based on the latest version; certainly not healthy for the alpha/beta development phase. I'd certainly like full control/modability/version control/etc once game is full release but now is definitely not the time. -
they need to strike a balance imho. I'f you've ever been outside (away from city; such as camping trip) even on a overcast or moonless night you can make out vague things once your eyes are adjusted. in early builds i remember at times it was so bad i could not tell i was running in place face pressed to a tree or that there was a fence in front of me. more recent lighting is too much, but as others have said gamma was so heavily abused it's not even funny.

+1 mate I hope more good communities fill the void left in the wake of the migration and server swap-over. far too many treat their servers as a business trying to market their 'doner packs' instead of focusing on providing great core content. when i rented my own box with 2 private hives on it i absolutely refused to ever introduce 'doner perks' beyond a tag on teamspeak and a mention on our web page as a supporter (if they wished). as a player i wouldn't WANT perks. it takes away from what dayZ is to me; you start a fresh life awaking somewhat disoriented to a scary and dangerous world with only the things you come across on your way to make do.

I think the A2 mod is in it's twilight days tbh. the one-two punch of the mass migration to dayZ SA alpha which failed to be the "mod 2.0" that many hoped for early on, then the shaky shift over to steam servers that broke up many established communities has done a lot of damage. add to this the getting all the right mods and finding a decent server for someone new is extremely hard and conusing- as more and more of the 'old' players burn out and move on. will SA be what we all want? probably not... i just hope it stays focused enough to deliver fully for some portion of the dayZ community rather then trying to appeal as widely as possible. MAKE ZERO CONCESSIONS IN DESIGN!

Can a moderator...or anyone give me some advice?
xalienax replied to Survivor05's topic in General Discussion
it happens to everyone mate. theirs no such thing as safety and the veteran predator can become the prey in an instant just because some noob with weapon got the drop on him while he was doing something or was distracted. Also you mention frankie- i assume your mean the well-known youtuber? it's important to note that most of the videos posted by 'tubers are cut from thousands of hours of gameplay. im not saying thier all staged or anything, but the don't accurately portray real-time game-play and the amount of unfavorable experiences along the way -
Most mele weapons need a good buff. Large heavy objects like the pipe-wrench should KO zed and people fairly reliably.
-
Rather infected or not, look at one. im not saying they are 'undead' in the traditional sense, but they are clearly, visibly ditry, covered in varying amounts of blood, and their flesh appears to be in a questionable state. at any rate they are prime candidates for being disease carriers- not just the 'zombie virus' but various others as well from being filthy and coming into contact with other human's blood.
-
It's not just the number, its the challenge they add (or in this case dont add) to the game play. let's be honest zombies are laggy, glitchy, and annoying- Not Challenging. the only real threat is them lag-punching you where you "used to be". I hope zombies become harder, and more dangerous both by weight of numbers and more damage/diseases from them (they are made of rotten flesh and all). Before this tho , the AI and path-finding needs to be sorted. zombies should be something you try your best to stealth-past rather then dance around in circle like a retard. being hit by one should do a lot more damage and carry the risk of various infections, and yes there should be more. that said aggro range when thier facing away from you need, your prone, or moving slowly crouched should be reduced mele weapons should do more realistic damage ( a crow bar/steel pipe-wrench smashing into your head should do severe/deadly damage reliably)

dayz runs better at higher render resolution dafuq
xalienax replied to JarheadLeeds's topic in General Discussion
I remember a long discussion about this on the (bis forums was it?) apparently if you have a powerful CPU and set your graphics settings to shit, it shifts more of the rending to the already loaded down cpu or some shenanigans like that. i forget the specifics now, but someone linked doezens of screenshots with different settings and system performance logging showing that in some areas reducing settings beyond a certain point reduced FPS and increased CPU load. given the number of changes to the engine since A2 im not sure how much of that still applies tho... -
DayZ Standalone Or Arma 2 DayZ mod?
xalienax replied to PinoyRiceShop's topic in New Player Discussion
Both are good (and bad), both for different reasons. The Mod (good things); > Zombies can be more dangerous, but you can also just 'run them off' fairly easily if your not tied up with a PvP engagement > More variety of weapons and vehicles. > Based on a finished game, a good bit less fumbly/clunky if your familiar with arma II > Lots of private servers with established communties. The Mod (Bad things); > Zombies are still glitchy- especially in High-pop servers when desynch comes into play. the number of times ive been screwed over by a zombie lag hitting me thru a wall or a floor is insane. > Many sub mods and community-made launchers which only pick up a certain servers and mods make getting all the files and versions a monumental task for a new player. > Many communities now offer 'easy mode' in exchange for 'donations'. > Many of the sub-mods drifted far from the core gameplay of the original dayZ Mod. The SA (Good) > More diversity and enterable buildings. > Customization > One game, one version. although mechanics are always evolving (ALPHA!) the core gameplay is the same > Improved Lighting and visuals. The SA (BAD) > As an Alpha it has horrendously poor optimization, and some systems that are below specs run better then those above recommended. (Higher performance per core rather then more cores seems to do better CPU-wise) > Zombies are annoying but not challenging. 'stealth' is not a thing and Mele is silly and unreliable. desynch only makes it worse in full and nearly-full servers. > Less features, and less polished features then some of the sub-mods made by the community. > Limited options for communities to customize their servers. -
Who still uses Mosin (+LRS) for range kills?!
xalienax replied to MarchmelloMan's topic in General Discussion
IMO i big part of the problem is that the current 'accuracy' mechanics in-game are way to 'arcadey' and tied to this rubbish attachment system. We need a proper stamina/fatigue system, Wind effects, and real-time ballistics with accurate values for the mechanical accuracy of the firearms. the person as the keyboard should be the deciding factor; knowing how and properly compensating for all the factors involved in a long range shot (or failing at it). -
Can a moderator...or anyone give me some advice?
xalienax replied to Survivor05's topic in General Discussion
Like every game that's ever gotten popular or 'gone viral' dayZ has it's share if immature asshats. My group and I play as 'opportunistic survivors'. That is, we are neither purely player killers nor are we inherently 'friendly'. every player we encounter is taken on a case-by-case basis; but at the end of the day success is measured my surviving for one more day. We frequently rob players as a means of getting what we want with less travel. some keys to 'successful interaction' (IE; Surviving the encounter) as learned thru many hours of experience- 1. Be firm, in control and direct when initiating contact. 2. Make it clear immediately that you mean business and won't hesitate to defend yourself (and follow thru if needed) 3. Be aware and choose your moment. i can't emphasize this enough. don't let the other player dictate your movements, if you know of their presence first, keep a low profile and try to catch them looting or indoors where any potential friends or clan-mates can't cover them easily. 4. DON'T HESITATE TO KILL if you feel something is wrong/off. a common tactic for us group players when we get caught out is to stall long enough for our mates to adjust positions as needed or move in. 5. ENJOY THE GAME. don't let a few bad encounters color your view of the entire player base or the game it's self. rather PvPer, KoS, Hero, Bandit, or something in between- enjoy the game YOUR WAY. find a like minded group- or if your really determined start your own! what ever your fancy, remember that it's a GAME and enjoy yourself. -
Does anyone actually enjoy killing zombies in DayZ?
xalienax replied to Awruk's topic in General Discussion
you know, it would be interesting if they could make mele work right, not be so damn clunky, and im sorry some things need a real buff in effectiveness. they (zombies) shouldn't be able to 'face tank' multiple hits to the head with crowbars, pipe wrench, etc. I wan't zombies to be a real threat, but i also want playing smart and player skill to be rewarded not just strafing in a circle like a retard while janky zombies lundge past in insanely predictable fixed animations. bottom line; buff the zeds, and make big heavy objects that would split skulls IRL relaible 1-hitters to the head. avoiding aggro should be the first choice, but dealing with the odd zombie quick n quite via mele should be an option. the circle dance needs to go away. -
Cities were supposed to be riddles with diseases?
xalienax replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
not only should they add disease to cities, we also need contagious diseases. while were at it, i hope they go full hardcore tears mode like the 2017 mod. cut food spawns by 70% or more. Deadly cold temps at night. forced real-time day-night cycle. basically forced to scavenge or hunt for food because nothings left. surviving your first day should be an achievement. so should having 5 bullets for your gun. -
How do you manage your real life and DayZ at the same time?
xalienax replied to john5220's topic in General Discussion
EVE Online is the same way. full player driven economy (literally everything from the biggest ship to the smallest single unit of ammunition is sold by players) On top of that, you level skills in real time rather then an XP system tied to activities. some ships take half a year to be able to simply SIT in, and not even be able to do anything useful with it. they are so expensive that it would take a player even boxing with multiple accounts MONTHS of playing the markets or hardcore PVE to make back the (in-Game) money to replace them. I don't know. it's both the best and worst part of the game. Knowing that the ship im flying into a massive battle has real value. that its a HUGE (time) investment on the line raises the intensity to a level no other game has ever been able to offer me. Months of hard work could die right here and now.. or if we win, months of the other side's hard work could be destroyed instead. There's nothing more exiting to me then being On-Field in a super-capital during a fleet fight. The very nature of all of this also drives a sizable contingent who take the game extremely seriously. it IS our second job. Im on field in a 70-billion + Ship, i expect ****ing perfection from the people who are expected to keep me alive. -
How do you manage your real life and DayZ at the same time?
xalienax replied to john5220's topic in General Discussion
truest words ever spoken. If you know anyone who has gotten anywhere in Eve Online that game basically lays it out from the start: Surrender your life or be a pleb forever. I made the mistake of getting into that game long ago, and to this day it eats 5 hrs or more of my life daily. more then once i have skipped an entire nights sleep and been late to work because of alliance ops >.< -
Why is Bohema so bad when it comes to AMD?
xalienax replied to john5220's topic in General Discussion
This is definitely a game optimization issue, not a 'Beating up on AMD users' situation. i have a fairly high-end Intel CPU (I7 4770k - Stock) and 2 EVGA GTX 780's in SLI. in High-Pop servers in the new big cities, i still get frequent 'stutters' and FPS drops down to around 25-50 and fluctuates rampantly as i rotate the view. Blanket statements like 'buy intel for better performance' only feeds fanboyism and doesn't address the real issues at hand; 1. Is the engine modern and being optimized for multithreading and multi-core CPUs? 2. Is the game it's self being optimized to avoid drawing, rendering, and processing unnecessary content that has no bearing for that user's gameplay. 3. How heavily does the game rest on the CPU? Bottom line with this, were dealing with what amounts to a heavily modified version of arma's engine. on top of that, that game it's self is still in ALPHA and has yet to have, major work on final optimization done. I think we can all expect better performance in beta and final, but with that said i think it will always be that higher performance Per-core will outweigh having More cores in the case of this title. -
you do realize were talking about HUMANS right?
-
I'd much rather see the streams implemented then "CITY! CITY! CITY!"
-
i hate the obsession with spewing city after city after city out. theres enough arena.. err.. i mean cities already. at this rate the map is going to be entirely ubran. plz mod tools plz so i can throw this disgusting new chernarus away! I liked the challenge and paranoia of navegating vast wilderness - especially in low light or bad weather. so easy to get lost in dense woods at night. pretty soon it'll be just walk in one direction untill you find city. shame. absolute shame. yet one more step in a direction i utterly puke on. if anything they. change for no reason other then to change something isn't good.

HARDCORE | FINALdayZ | Epoch Survival | The TOUGHEST Server in DayZ
xalienax replied to Cartoonrboy's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Pretty much exactly my thoughts. I don't much care for camping near the spawn area as killing freshies is just gamey griefing- but a well planned ambush on players with good gear, rather your a lone wolf or a group can be a game changer. especially in a very hostile environment where any resources at all could make the difference. "survival of the fittest" as they say. -
HARDCORE | FINALdayZ | Epoch Survival | The TOUGHEST Server in DayZ
xalienax replied to Cartoonrboy's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I don't generally play 'PvP forbidden' servers simply on the principle that in the apocalypse anything goes (even at the expense of your fellow man if need be). but with that said, this actually sound epic enough to be worth a genuine shot :) i'll be sure to come by this weekend m8 -
Pretty much. I would love a super hardcore survival server on Namalsk, but no epoch plz. Massively reduced loot, reduced vehicles, death from cold, etc. AI traders = Instant turn off. Safe zone = Instant turn off. economy = instant turn off. Basicly nutt up and bargain with other actual players (and risk death/robbery in the process) or spend days staggering around the map hopeing for the one thing you need.
