New patch coming soon to dayz

That looks great, and the crafting system seems like it'll actually give some freedom to discover recipes on your own. I love it. And I guess I have no choice now but to be a bandit... Thanks :P
  2. Sorry buddy, right away.... The difference between these two is TOO unpredictable for them to incorporate anything other than an accuracy difference between the two in the game. If you go out to a range and place several paper targets along side each other, you'll notice that M4s unpredictably tumble their .223 rounds around 150m. Sometimes you have a straight trajectory, sometimes you don't.Yes, a straight trajectory means more penetrating power and more damage with the funneling towards the exit wound, but you cannot make it realistic in the game without adding unneeded engine mechanics. The only REAL difference between an M16 and an M4 is the accuracy and tumble. The rounds were originally developed to tumble, so penetrating power isn't even a factor that should be considered in any capacity. The M4 doesn't lose power over the M16 given that the bolt and bolt return are exactly the same, the only issue being the gas fedback through the barrel to the buffer spring for a clean bolt return without a jam. At this point, any power less is entirely negligible dur to the gas return being an "after-the-fact" occurrence to a round being fired. Having a better understanding of gun mechanics might actually make the real reality seem a little more real to your COD standards :) Again, with the supression. This is all AFTER the fact. The supression comes from the muzzle, not the chamber. The chamber still has the same amount of energy as ever being released through your ejection port, which (obviously) releases more energy than the game leads you on to believe. But supressors work on the gases released from the muzzle at the instance of the round leaving the barrel, where the rest of the noise is generated. Supressors just absorb and dissipate the gas, energy and noise more evenly and fluidly, which can reduce the volitility of the noise caused at the instance of firing a round. The point of a supressor is to allow someone to fire a weapon safely without having to worry about damage to their ears. Suppressors are attached in place of your normal muzzle break or flash supressor, so they just work off of what would normally be lost anyway. At most, they affect accuracy purely due to the fact that the round is required to travel through it after the muzzle. Navy, given that you have "navy" in your name, you were never quite trained in the weapon disciplines you deserved to be trained in. Should've joined a real-man's branch and learned the truth. Doesn't surprise me you've come to the conclusions you have. Once you get to actually use these weapons in the given configurations, you can realize the differences in handling and the advantages.
  3. 1-2 hours*. It really depends on the type of thermal. I've used monocular thermals (which were actually pretty damn nice) that ran on one or two AAs and could last about a day or two, but they're not for long distances, much like NVGs (the issue being focusing, you can't see close and long range at the same time). The thermal scopes I used on weapons like the M240B or M2 .50 Cal MG in my gun truck ran on about 9 AAs and would only last me for one convoy and half of the return trip, so roughly 1.5 hours. Adding batteries in to the mix would definitely hinder the use of Thermals, especially for a sniper just camping out waiting to find someone. Given that they use AAs, and AAs are pretty common, I don't exactly know just how rare you'd want to make batteries... but rechargeable batteries and battery charges could be implemented and extremely rare, requiring the power generator or a vehicle to power the charger.
  4. Definitely like Helbrechts idea. There are always war museums all around in different countries, granted the weapons/vehicles they have on display have been deactivated (Engines removed, firing pins removed, bolts welded), but that doesn't mean you couldn't get parts from different weapons to apply to others (like previously suggested, finding suppressors) or parts to repair your broken weapons that you've been beating all to hell in the forest as you've been running around mercing zambies. Along with what he has stated, though, there should be an extremely rare chance to find previous-era weapons in some residential locations, given that there are plenty of collectors out there that love to own and display these things. Maybe not quite an MG42, but Kar98K is definitely possible. Now, as for the winter idea; That'd be great, given that finding the appropriate clothing for the climate is possible. The question is whether or not the infected actually have circulating blood. If they don't, then the temperate isn't an issue for them freezing to death, but it'd definitely cause muscles to tighten and make it more difficult for them to move, which would give you an upper hand. The other issue is snow accumulation: How well would you be able to run through deep snow? How deep would the snow get? Would it cause ice to form on the roads and cause hazardous conditions for driving? Would some of the debris that could damage your vehicle become covered and cause people to smash in to it? Could trucks get snow chains on the tires? Would survivors be able to find snowshoes, or maybe even improvise tennis rackets or planks of wood to use on their feet? Would the cold climate obscure the infected heat signatures in thermal? Would vehicles leave tire tracks in the snow that someone could follow to your camp? Different climates are definitely something that'd be awesome to have implemented and could really change up game play.

    Battleye Script Restriction 90... What?

No one on our server died. I had 3 other guys with me and they simply logged out. You probably just happened to get command killed by a script kiddie before the update.

    Battleye Script Restriction 90... What?

This is happening to almost everyone. We watched the battleye info pop-up about the update, then one-by-one my guys were kicked. I tried to rejoin, expecting the server to update it, but it froze at loading. I ctrl+alt+del and relaunched my game using DayZ Commander, got in the server and got the "Server requires battleye 1.168 up to date" "Computed GUID <gibberish>". Now I'm just sitting here watching person after person get kicked from Script Restriction #90. I had some of my guys sit in the lobby to see if it'd update, and no dice. Had some download the client update from http://www.battleye.com and install it, still no dice... granted, I don't know if they did it properly. I suggest trying to join a different server to see if it fixes it, then hop back to your favorite server. If that doesn't work, go to the battleye website and try that client download. ALSO, If neither work, close your game, then run it as an administrator (if you don't already) and try that. If that still doesn't work, go to your Parent arma folde, go to properties, and set the permissions to allow all (sometimes programs are denied the ability to overwrite/edit their own files, mainly Windows 7). If ALL of that fails, keep yelling at rocket.
  7. I was on Teamspeak with them when it started, and hopped on to the server when the guy started spawning cows in the sky with parachutes. Stuart was running towards their location when I heard Jay Are say "This fool just said someone is approaching our location and he's going to command kill him"... then 20 seconds later Stuart yelled "What the fuck!". I logged on to talk to the guy and got a picture of him saying he was spawning cows in the sky, and that he was the same one who did it in the pic on /r/dayzlol. I have a feeling his hacker buddy was Captain Quarkers(z?), due to their log-in times being almost identical (logged on together), http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/938126179249644738/695EBC7C900F193FF8ACE81AF35BFEED6919FB48/

    US 1033

US 1033 has had a decent brush with hackers recently... people teleporting, spawning helicopters, ect... but we just now started keeping track of these. Player: Count Funkula Server: US 1033 Time: 4:46ishPM MST Infraction: Teleportation and possible weapon spawning/manipulation. Victims: Lee, Plissken, Joker, <<Stuart>>, Darkriver, Jay At first, we thought he was just in a decent sniping position from our location (Joker, Stuart, Darkriver, Jay), until we noticed he was taking people out from only 50m away from their position, when there were several hundred meters between us. After respawning, one of our group spotted a guy appear infront of him with an M107, and he started firing at our group member, but the shots were silent. I was a good 2-3Km north of his position, in the middle of the woods when someone suddenly came up behind me and started shooting me with a silenced weapon. While this was going on, Jay had managed to take off from the original area (around 029025) with our UAZ, and encountered this fire again around 029040 until he was killed. All while this was happening, the server owner was checking a trail log and had the movement of all players except for Count Funkula. tl;dr; Count Funkula teleported around with a silenced M107, killing every player on the server. Server owner checked a movement log/map and had no record of Count Funkula for a good 5-10 minutes in the player list, then never saw any movement/location reporting when he finally popped up (not even a spawn location).

Stupidest Ways to Die in DayZ

This was a rather well timed post, I must say. My friend and I were just playing on Seattle 36... I (of course) was using the Enfield and he was using the Winchester... We met up outside of Bor, which took a while of me hiding inside of a house and him running being chased for 20 minutes, looking for my chem lights marking the house... eventually we met up, gunned them down and headed out to Zelenogorsk. Along the way, I saw a barn and decided "Hey, lets go raid that barn... they sometimes have some good stuff", completely forgetting it's a veteran server and that I might as well have been in an ice cream truck dragging fresh human flesh behind it... that was quite the fire fight, we each killed around 30 zombies with many instances of thinking we were completely screwed. I finally said screw it, and he ran around acting as bait with 15 zombies chasing him while I raided the barn, then we headed off in to the woods, dropping flares here and there to pull them off of us once they lost line-of-sight due to the trees. We came out by my favorite barn south of Zelenorgorsk by the super market and got in to another massive zombie brawl by that barn, 8-15 a piece killed this time. FINALLY we made it to our goal, the Zelenogorsk super market! We were inside, finally getting him an alice pack, watch and map.... and suddenly we were teleported 200ft in the air by a hacker and dropped to our deaths with the rest of the server (we counted around 12, might've been more). Gotta say... it was severely lame. Would be nice if there was a way to have the character datafiles rolled back to right before we got teleported. But the great thing is that my buddy got it recorded with fraps (not all of it, just our last zombie brawl, maybe the one before that, and our teleportation deaths).
