What Recording Software should I use?
mattldempsey replied to mattldempsey's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
The Hard Drive has other files on there. It is the main one for my PC. I have just argued that even though there is other stuff on there, it is not in use when I am running the benchmark, but now you have said the same as the other guy, so I guess I must be missing the point! Thing is, that space will run out really quick whilst recording. I did a couple of tests earlier and a minute is roughly 2.5gb, I could be recording for a long time. I just put in an old HardDisk (only 500gb) and that is giving me around 80mb/s. I am going to see what results I get with that in a second. I will put Arma on the SSD along with the operating system whilst I am asleep. Il post an update asap! -

Just tried a benchmark with HDTune. Wouldnt even let me. Left is write, Right is read. Edit: Nevermind, apparently this benchmark does that on purpose to stop you destroying all your data.. -

Okay thanks. A SSD that big will probably be out of my budget and I would need more space than that anyway. I think I will reinstall Arma2 on the SSD and then see if there is any improvement on the write speed. However, that wouldnt explain the benchmark. -

Mine is 7200RPM I believe. I have run the benchmark multiple times and it varies between 10 and 30. Never managed to get 30 whilst actually recording though. -

Seagate Barracuda 1TB 6GB/s Model:ST1000DM003. Na not really, not enough space on the SSD for anything considered how large the filesize is for recordings. I have a couple of older HDD's I could hook up (500 and 320). They may be knackered though. Using Lagarith codec as well. I assume that it would probably be an idea for me to get a second HDD so that I can record to both (not sure how that works) but at least it will reduce the workload of each. However, the issue I currently have is rendering this one a bit useless so I really need to sort it. -

I have gone for DXTory, but I am having an issue with write speed. Only getting like 15mb/s to my HDD for some reason? Any ideas? If I do it to my SSD I get 300 but I need that for windows, its not for storage. FPS isnt an issue. It just seems the write speed cripples the video and it also cripples me ingame. -

My experience with fraps is that it is average quality. Would be looking for something better. I will be using all 3 of the above (photoshop, vegas and after effects). I have experience with all. The reason I am unsure about what recording software will get me the best quality is because I have only ever recorded for one game which had its own ingame .dem system, CounterStrike. So I have never actually needed recoding software before. -
Hi all. I have been inactive for quite a while. Maybe around August time, possibly even earlier. A combination of nights out, hackers and having a broken leg made me put the game down for a while. Just wondering whats changed since then? I know they are still working on the standalone and since I last played the Hero skin thing has been added/returned(?). Is there anything else I should know about? Anything been done at all about the hackers yet? How are you guys keeping interested in the game?

Nice thanks for the info! I guess those choppers share spawn points? And the plane at NorthEast perhaps? Hopefully they have lowered the spawn rate because I liked how hueys were rare. l85 was the thermal gun right? Thank god if thats gone. I refused to use it. Tents is good news -

Remove livestock/animals/raw meat from the game
mattldempsey replied to porkyham's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I agree with this. Having to go into towns is a big part of the game, but with meat and waterbottles, I have no need to venture into them. This will actually provide a lot more longevity into gameplay. If you play solo, you should accept that you will need to communicate with friendlies for assistance in blood transfusions. -
The engine arma runs on is far far superior in many ways to the Cry, both have perks. Look at A3..

Loot Damage! Making you think more before PlayerKilling
mattldempsey replied to mattldempsey's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Indeed, if something like this was implemented. My first two options would be to either 1. Approach the target and get them to enter the surrender position or, if I am feeling like a bastard 2. Shoot them in the leg, take there stuff If I wasnt able to control the situation, I would have to blast them away and forfeit some of the loot. Seems fair. -
Loot Damage! Making you think more before PlayerKilling

Its just a base idea to work from, I didnt put much thought into the details. But as I say NVG would get blown apart in a headshot from a sniper. When you think about it, item hoarding (not vehicles, just items) is actually not a bad thing. It is just an alternative end game to sniping. Item hoarding could encourage creative base building, not to mention game development, whereby the scenario develops and power and wealth (through items) becomes more important. But yea, item hoarding doesnt negatively effect other players, unlike mindless murderers. -
Zombies carrying dead players equipment
mattldempsey replied to BwobBwub's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
If anything like this was to happen, it would require a rethink of one of the most important aspects of the game, zombies overall behavior. Id actually support this, if there was MORE to it, other aspects of zombie behavior. -

Zombies despawning is for optimization, which IMO is more important than zombies carrying guns -

That was why I said the part about better storage (tents bases etc), as that would make loot more meaningful, even if you are kitted out. -
Loot Damage! Making you think more before PlayerKilling

I used that term because it was an easy way to explain to people that we can relate to this kind of representation fairly well, get over it. -
Loot Damage! Making you think more before PlayerKilling

Im sorry, but I dont see that as a valid arguement. The game is meant to be brutal, and death is the end -

Bump for Awareness You need to promote this further. This is by far the most practical way for the system to determine whether someone is innocent or not. This could, when applied with other things that I currently cannot think off, cause 'bandits' to have a better thought process when they find there victim and possibly counter the OTT straight out murders we have atm. Rocket read this thread!
