Hi all! I am not the greatest player but I will be streaming regularly in the coming weeks so hopefully some of you can come join me. I will mainly be heading north and gearing up on DayZ. Another topic about encouraging teamwork within DayZ

The idea here is that you should need to work with other players to fulfill your own characters max potential. How?.... By giving us the ability to learn from each other. ================= The Basics We should be able to learn certain 'skills' off of each other by being in the presence of those capable using said 'skills' and benefiting from the experience of being in that presence. Skills would include crafts such as 'weapon maintenance', medicinal prowess, etc. Gaining experience in that skill would allow you to perform it better. An example would be you are able to take better care of your gun and it will accumulate less wear & tear overtime. Everyone should be able to perform EVERY skill, however without adequate knowledge from experience you should not be able to get good results. Implementation New characters would spawn with the basic functionality of all skills but with the chance to spawn with a varying level of knowledge in one skill in particular. If skill was based on a 1-10 level system there character could look something like these four examples below; 1/1/1/1/1/1/1/1 1/1/1/1/1/4/1/1 1/1/1/7/1/1/1/1 1/1/1/1/1/1/1/1 As you can see two of the characters spawned with a higher level of knowledge in one of the skills, they can then pass this to those with lower levels of knowledge in that particular field. It could be based by being in the presence of someone performing one of those skills. Or by reading books to each other. To further encourage a teamwork attitude you could make it so that the knowledge is not immediately transferred to each other but it takes a certain amount of time (30mins) to sink in. If the learner kills his/her tutor within that time then the knowledge can be lost in thought. ================== The way I see it, this sort of system gives players a choice when they find other players. 1. Kill them immediately, loot there body in the hope they have some gear (that you may have just damaged) that will keep you going until you find someone else to kill or 2. Approach someone in the hope that you can learn important survivor skills that will allow you a much greater chance of surviving. ================== Imagine if you approach someone to find out they have knowledge on how to maintain and pilot light aircraft (when DayZ is more developed). It could be very rewarding! -
Since 'zombie' hordes are confirmed.. what would you consider a "horde"?

Would be very very surprised if technicalities allow anything more than about 10-15 zombies in these 'hordes' Performance issues etc. -
Simple idea. Certain areas should have a radius of which anyone who disconnects inside of gets spawned outside of the radius next time they connect to a server. ie. Military Base (South of airfield) Anyone who disconnects within 1000m of the Military Base will spawn 1000m out of the Military Base in the direction of the Military Base that they were.

No, but a more dynamic world which we can help to develop a midst trying but ultimately failing to defeat the zombies. Not if your from a first world country. People want to get rich and have masses of power. An open environment like DayZ which is completely ungoverned by anyone other than the players themselves is a great platform on which some sort of long term progression goals could be placed upon. A game design that is ultimately flawed even once more content is introduced and bugs are reduced. Diseases and crafting are interesting but it is all ultimately a gimmick because the chain of power is this.. Hands > Axe > Gun. I am saying the concept is flawed, I am not complaining about the state of the game as it is now. Even if Rocket delivers on every promise the game still wont fulfill the potential this genre has. Not on such an awful engine. The balance of loot is irrelevant. As I said above anything outside of the Hands > Axe > Gun table is ultimately disposable. There is nothing wrong with killing or sight or pvp itself but it should absolutely not be the focus of the game. It should be a resort.

A game that is meant to be about survival but ultimately leads back to PvP. The main flaw with DayZ will always be the endgame. The way I see it are there are two massive problems here. 1. In the movies, people survive in the hope that they will make it through the apocalypse and be part of the rebuild of civilization. This is what motivates them and this is also there aim, a better life like before. Unfortunately in DayZ we have a static world, where the apocalypse will never end. This is a problem because there is no aim, no target you can set. Once you have geared up you simply have to disregard any sort of survival instincts & hunt out players because otherwise you really are just running around in an open environment with nothing to do. Therefor anyone who is actually interested in a game based on survival rather than PvP doesnt really have any end game content whatsoever. 2. Ties into the first problem. You can gear up in as little as 5 mins if you get a good spawn. For the survivors out there, this is it, game over. We dont have anything to survive for so there is no more to do. My latest character took little less than an hour to gear up with other 100 rounds of ammo. and food that could keep him going for days. There is no reason for me to go near loot spawns as I do not wish to fight people yet there is no more I need to do to 'survive'. Game over.

As long as it is a rare occurance then this is a lot better. And I mean rare. Developers often dont appreciate how easy it is to de-value something by having to much of it. Dont make it any more common than it currently is to find crash heli's. If anything make it a bit rarer. Another thing I personally think is crap is how the items are actually distributed. They all right under the heli and hard to see. They should be MORE spread out but EASIER to see. Once you have found the heli, you should still have to search for the items, they could be 50m of who knows, it would make it more dramatic because at the moment its boring. To make them easier to see you could introduce the items via weapons crates, that would make it fairer because of the larger radius the weapons/ammo could be. -

Ok, well the duping is very good news, I think I know a well run private server I could use. Its a shame I cant really go public though, private is not really ideal. I guess I could use this chance to try some other maps, maybe something with more aerial logistics, I like planes :) -
A couple of months ago, it was obviously really easy to get good gear. Sometimes you could get it yourself but most of the time it was either duped or hacked in, influx of weapons not intended to be in the game. I heard over the last couple of months a lot has been dont to prevent this, especially duping. Has there been any noticeable difference whilst trying to obtain stuff? I am installing again and would like to play a reasonable game without everyone running round with the best gun. Cheers, MattD

All the maps I find either have loot spawns or ugly grids on them. I just want a plain map, preferably without even the names of the towns on. I need a massive resolution as well, 4,000s and higher As there will be lots of zooming in

Just Re-Installed. No Combined Ops option? Cant run DayZ

Yeah so, you cant run DayZ without having run Combine Ops first but steam have removed Combined Ops option! What do i do! -
That is basically what will kind of happen. There will be disease and of course being out in the cold weather to long will affect health/temperature. As for asthetic wet clothing. Not needed. 'Much ado over nothing'

Not to my tastes. Middle earth is a continent, DayZ is barely the size of a English county. Its a 2 day ride as far as fast as the nazgul flies from edoras to minas tirith Orlok says: we are all entitled to what "we" think is a good idea, if one disagrees, try to do it in a more constructive way.
