Your opinions on forced server rules (3DP, Crosshair etc )
john_blund posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Good Evening! First of all, I'd like to point out that I'm not writing this to start one of the " omigod rokciet cen yuo ples fikxs thys gema becyus unbelcaned!!1 " threads, this is purely to get the overall opinion. I've been playing this mod for about a week non-stop now, and it was also my first experience with the Arma games, and I noticed quickly a lot of stuff I really liked about the engine, and stuff I didn't like. As of right now there are very few servers that force rules on their servers, forexample 3DP:1 CH:0, 0 being false, 1 being true, obviously. This means third person camera is enabled, but handscan/crosshair is disabled ( some servers have both enabled, but doesen't bother to update the text ). I personally think the handscan shit should be disabled by default on all servers, because it gives everyone a huge advantage over everyone, spotting people through mountains, through treelines, even sometimes through buildings. This ruins immersion into the game, and also ruins the balance ( I promised, there won't be any whining from here on out ). The third person camera I'm not too bothered with having enabled, some might say it gives you an unfair advantages in urban enviroments ( looking over walls, around corners or having a bigger FoV when scanning for enemy players around you using free-look ). I'd say this is true, but not game-breaking. A lot of players only use this option when prone, I play with it regularly, because I enjoy the way the game feels, more immersion for me at least. The point of this thread was basically just to hear your guys pros/cons on this system, and I'd like to add that my statements might be false, situational or pure fiction, it's just what I feel I've experienced about this so far. Thanks. TLDR; Yay or Nay on forced server rules like 3DP:1 | CH: 0? -

note to self - don't ever respond within 3 minutes of waking up Stop being so fucking ignorant, this is a sandbox survival game, It sounds like you are one of the inbreds who sit in electro/cherno all day, I'm the complete opposite, I'm way up north surviving. Which one of us is playing the game correctly? Both of us, that's the whole point. You choose how to play it, and you execute the plan you've made. My plan is to survive, take no stupid risks, and see how long I can live, I'm currently at 6 days and counting, 1 bandit kill, 0 murders. This is the most ironic thing I've read since Charles Darwin married his first cousin. For the future of this thread, you are free to reply, but please keep your bullshit out of it. I actually agree with you that I'm happy the Dev team of Dayz has limited the admins powers, I've heard a few stories where admins have been abusing on dayz already ( restarting servers to not die, vehicle spawns etc ). I'm not saying the correct way is to limit everyone to no nameplates/crosshairs and third person, it's merely a suggestion. -

First of a... I'm just kidding. The scenario I'm talking of, is the unctrollable shaking of your hands after getting struck by a zombie multiple times ( it does not happen always, but very often ( the shaking )) this makes aiming very difficult. I must admit I have not noticed the insane shaking of the screen in general ( while in first person, I don't alywas play 3rd person ) but I guess we're talking about the same scenario, just a different event of the scenario. The screen does get blurry/black/white and all that shit in third person as well iirc ( I'm tired as hounds as well ). As for your capturing of the footage, my only experiences have been with Fraps, Xsplit and FME ( the two last ones are mainly for streaming, but can handle recording as well ). FME is free, but takes a shit-ton of setting up :|. Xsplit has watermarks in local recording I think, I may be wrong. But yeah, I get it, you think and feel that the game is more immersed for you in first person, I respect that. I'm in no position to tell you what you think is wrong, I'm simply stating that I feel the game is more immersed ( i hope I'm spelling this correctly holy shit ) for me in third person, why? I honestly do not know the answer. When I do have to play in first person ( either enforced by the server, or when I'm inside houses/buildings or shooting ) I play with 0 headbob, and 0 deadzone. The bobbing makes me nausiated, and the deadzone I didn't really figure out much use for, since I use ALT to freelook pretty much all the time. I also use the double-tap on numpad minus to increase the FOV of the game. This thread was to get input from the community on what the overall opinion is, from what I can tell everyone agrees that nameplates/whatevertheyarecalled and handscanning is retarded, and should be removed, as for the third person camera, it's pretty much 50/50 I guess. I just wonder if listening to some old Elton John records will attract the genius behind this, and we can get his input on this. +1 if you got the reference. -

First of all, I did never intend to come off as a douchebag or being ignorant, I'm actually interested in your opinion(s). Not actually trying to make this more difficult but I have no idea what your idea of "the shakes" is then, I assumed it was the hand-shaking when you take a lot of damage. I always use the iron sights when I fire, except perhaps really clutch situations. -

Whats the future for the mod itself, will we see a complete port for ARMA 3, or perhaps a standalone game? And what can you tell us about the future of DayZ in terms of content/features and mechanics? ( Hoping for big spoilers! ) EDIT; Realised it was terribly formulated, cleaned it up!

This makes about as much sense as your so called "pro gaming" experience. I agree completely it's not realistic' date=' I'm not saying it should be in the game, but comparing it to ESP/wallhack, is taking it too far. This game is way too immersive and it's still hard as balls to spot anyone around walls if you have your nose against a wall, as you put it. Perhaps start thinking about the general public, and not only you fucking twats who sit in Elektro/Cherno all day, the 3rd person cam isn't that gamebreaking. I honestly can't recall any situations I've spotted someone purely on the third person cam, however the nametags and handscan shit, I can count on both hands and my toes! First of all, I can't speak for everyone, but at least for me I see no change with or without 3rd person camera when having the shakes. The servers that I play on have nametags+crosshairs disabled, so you still have to ironsight to shoot ( which I do even if the crosshair IS enabled ). The only difference I can see is that we don't get to see the -constant- shaking of the hands, when we're running/not shooting. -

DayZ has become Deathmatch / Team Deathmatch
john_blund replied to underpaidorphan's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've played this game non-stop for over a week now. It's been 2-3 days since I've seen or heard gunshots, with the exception of a few long distance views of passing survivors and bandits. Perhaps I'm the one playing the game wrong then, I don't know.. -

I have the same issue with getting headaches, and if you double tap the minus key on your numpad ( it's the zoom key you're refering to ), it will be constantly zoomed out, thus granting a bigger FOV. You will need to repeat this process every time you log on though, small price to pay. This does not work when wielding a sniper rifle by the way. -

I'm the exact same, I'm looking for servers purely with at least one of them disabled. I think the handscan/crosshair shit ruins the game -way- more than third person cameras does, however. I enjoy playing with third person camera, not for the improved visibility, but just for general enjoyment and immersion :| -
I fixed this issue by updating GFX drivers, flash + java, and doing a few computer restarts.

Strange micro-stutters in FPS while playing DayZ
john_blund posted a topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Hello there, and tahnks for taking the time to read this post, as I really love this game already, and I have no idea why my game is acting like this. I've already posted a thread on reddit about this, but since not everyone reads reddit, I'll post one here as well! I've noticed that no matter what I do with the GFX options, I seem to get small FPS stutters while playing online, I'm talking every second or so, the game "stops" for half a second, then goes fine again, it's playable, but VERY annoying when in intense situations. I have not tried playing any other mods or ARMA2 online yet, I've read somewhere that people think the stutters are from the debug monitor, is there any way to turn that off so I can try that? The game runs -completely- smooth and awesome in singleplayer/bootcamp on everything on maximum graphics and 2000 visibility, so I don't think it's related to my specs, but I'll include them anyway! My specs are; 1 MS Win7 Ultimate 64bit SP1 Intel Core i5 760 @ 2.8GHz 4GB DC DDR3 @ 662 MHz ( that's 1333 MHz I believe, becuase of DC) GeForce GTX 460 1GB ASUSTeK P7p55d-e LX Motherboard I doubt this has anything to do with my harddrive, but it's a Western Digital 1TB disk ( Green version ) What I have done inbefore posting this to get help without any success is as follows I just came out from the map editor on Chernarus, I just flew a chopper through all the cities at non-fps stutter, completely smooth at everything maxed, with about 1000-1500 visiblity - If I bring this online on DayZ, I still get the stuttering. I've done HDD check for read/write speeds, everything was okay, but not amazing speeds, shouldn't be the HDD speed. Thanks so much for reading this, and I hope to get this FPS issue fixed, because this game... this game, I fucking love it. I've noticed something new about this problem, if I press esc, I can see the game stuttering behind, but the mouse in the menu is not stuttering. Not sure what this means though. -
