Apparently the little troll didn't take kindly to quickly reacting and locking him out and then posting about it, sadly one users account was not thought of and cost us our forums to revert back to a backup from a week or two ago. Sad I know right? He managed to get a database backup from the 22nd (Hah, we don't keep backups for admins). But as everyone knows the normal drill when such events happen you should change your forum account password. His actions are going to dig him into a very deep hole and I assume he doesn't care or believes it to be a bluff like any normal person would, well we're not going to bluff and your actions against the forums are going to further lead us to peruse legal actions. So, for the people that have missed out on our previous announcement about today's rising events. A person has gained access to our main email account which have details listed for our FTP's, etc. He then uploaded a malicious application to the US file host which has since been taken offline. The file was called dayz_auto_updater.exe This malicious software is lead to be a backdoor / bot. Below is the ThreatExpert report on this file. http://www.threatexpert.com/report.aspx?md5=ead7a55075d5ce1a32353832bed88069 ThreatExpert also explains where this malicious application installs / moves its processes to stay hidden within your computer. So if you are a user who has downloaded the .exe called dayz_auto_updater.exe from the US Mirror is to scan their computer against viruses and read the description by ThreatExpert on where to locate this if your Virus detector does not pick it up. Now off to the server hosts Server hosts who provided us with RDP details are comprised and need to thoroughly scan their server for the same type of processes and to change their servers RDP details and to NOT ever give the RDP details out to anyone *Including DayZ* from now on. Now we move to the main event This person responsible for this goes by the following name in-game and here is his GUID: despected - GUID: e812801aa33603d69643eff110880ec9 He has since changed his name but is banned in DayZ. Fun facts: He once acted to be a female for 3 months to gain donations for a counter strike community. He makes money by selling runescape gold *w/e the hell that is lol* He apparently loves mcdonalds... This person has now become my center of attention, I truly do adore him. As the last bit of words I write, I would strongly advise this person to stop his actions otherwise. DayZ is becoming a very strong community and beloved by many communities. It would be ill advised to continue what you're doing, the community does not appreciate what you're doing and I feel you will anger the zombies *Ahh everyone run*.

We require all server hosts to contact us via email as we have a new mission file for everyone. Please email us with your server(s) instance id(s) so that we can send you the new mission file. We will begin updating servers that we have RDP access to but please note we may not get to all the servers in time of you reading this announcement. So again, please simply send an email to [email protected] with your servers name, servers instance id(s) so that we can get you the new mission file. This is to fix the Debug forest exploit. Hello everyone, I am mainly looking for server hosts and this does not apply to the public players that just play on servers. I will require all of our active server hosts to send me a private message on the forums with which server(s) you run for DayZ as I have important information for you guys to read. Obviously keeping track of our hosts through email and forums isn't that accurate due to low numbers of staff to keep up with it. But again, all active server hosts please send me a private message as this is a matter of security for all servers. I do not have time to go through each server and apply bans, detection pattern updates, etc. Thanks for your time, Tonic

V2 Signatures are enabled. What "more" are you talking about? What you as DayZ staff provide us as configuration files' date=' I'm using. I don't understand. Why do they only effect us specifically then? Well I say V2 signatures because at one point in time Addons such as Alexanderpack and GerkMenu were used on your server which is old stuff that was built upon for bypass of V1 signature checking and can't be used on V2 signature servers.

GUID can be spoofed but you will be kicked within 15 minutes for an invalid GUID, 15 minutes.. I know horse crap.... It's truly best to ban them via ips.

Added. Till I get the new system I will require the playerid, GUID, IP, name and script detection. Also if Joopig becomes a problem for to many hosts there is a solution. Do a range block through your servers firewall: 92.12.0.0 - 92.12.255.255 Block it via inbound connections and drop it for all ports (any). He won't be an issue. Downside that may occur is people in that range won't be able to get in your server but you can always have people contact you to verify their identity and can always add a separate allow list for their specific IP.

So what type of accountability are you taking for having our info taken from the backup database as per International law you are supposed to be emailing all customers that may be effected you realize amoung other things right ? and 3 week old backups seems a little ridiculous to me why not have a job that creates them it takes 5 minutes to write a script Users passwords are hashed by the forum software with a specific salt, cracking the passwords are not that big of a security threat unless your password is 123 then that just means you have a poor choice in passwords. We're going to follow up with a mass wide email shortly along with a guide for users to be aware of security ways to protect their other personal information. Most of it is pretty common such as never using the same password for multiple accounts, never use any personal information in your passwords, etc. The backup thing wasn't of high priority for a few reasons as we have a lot of other bigger things going on not to mention when we switch the forum software over in the coming weeks all data is going to be whiped and the new forum will be completely clean where users will have to re-register and posts, etc will be gone accept for the important ones.

Always look at the worst possible outcome which would be all his personal information goes on 4chan and reddit. To please the kind hearted people of the DayZ community, I want to encourage users to not harass this person. Users further posting more information about him which can lead up to his personal identity can and will be temporally removed from dayzmod.com So please guys, don't pursue this any more, let us handle it but by all means post your comments on what you think about him, discuss it but don't further pursue trying to obtain his personal identity to harass him in any way.

I regret to inform you but nothing that I have posted and am responsible for reveals his actual name, age, address, etc. The only things posted by me are is one of his known gaming aliases, other information posted by users is also related to his gaming aliases. Also the article you have posted does not apply to DayZ as dayzmod.com does not reside within the EU, not to mention even if it did apply to dayzmod.com the act clearly states: personal data are: address, credit card number, bank statements, criminal record, etc. None of this information is located on dayzmod.com Not to mention his personal information such as name, address, etc are posted on the internet via Linkedin and various other websites. I like that you want to preserve this users identity and I respect that, I to hold the responsibility to withhold such information but as I said, none of his actual personal information that is not public domain is posted on this website.

I have since came to senses and don't plan on posting his information unless he tries something else. Once Rocket gets online I believe we're going to have a nice discussion on how to pursue this.
