I near gave up on Dayz until I said screw it and became a mountain man. It's really the only playstyle I can conceive at the moment not dependent on good gear or vehicles. Matches, a hatchet, and a water bottle. BAM. Mountain man.

I poo'ed in the Sims why not DayZ?! Maxis didn't work in rape or slavery, but I'm pretty sure the latter could be acceptable/quite workable in a survival setting. -
I know that this tip isn't about equipment, but you should add it in anyway. Don't feed the trolls. They'll take all your beans.

I haven't been able to get the standard to turn on either. No problems with the military though. Servers black as night, damn you flashlight!

Hello all! After 4 days of playing this game my friends and I are hooked. Our 3-man group is working pretty well, but after 2 days of practicing Elektro raids and setting up campsites, we've decided it's time to move North. The decision has been made to travel the east coast and find a nice foresty area to call home. In the interest of conversation, Ive decided to ask my fellow survivors (you) what your general strategy is straight from the beach.
