How, exactly, is this physically impossible? He's referring to taking two clips for the Enfield and creating an 8 round reload. Literally, putting the strip clips together. To put into the rifle. Reloading the Enfield in ArmA and DayZ is pretty inaccurate. And combining mags to the max, such as two STANAG 5.56 at 18 and 23, respectively, then reloading one with the rounds from the other, giving you two mags with 30 and 11 rounds, respectively.

And where, pray tell, would you find the cell towers for these phones? The power to supply those towers? If these are satellite phones, why would you think that there would still be the physical infrastructure on the ground to support the satellites?

Oculus Rift support for stand alone DayZ
pfheonix replied to soapmak3r's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Well, it's TrackIR on crack. IT WOULD RULE. Yes. Yes yes yes. YES YES YES YES YESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYES. If you can't tell, I think it's a decent idea. -
Well, when you have a sight which can turn off computer-assisted vision modes, or digital vision modes, lemme know. Because that sight A) doesn't exist, and B) will not exist for a while. Now, let me tell you people something: the L85 will probably not be in the standalone. No thermal vision sights will, I should hope. The reason it is in this is because it fills a niche for a very rare weapon which has long range overwatch improvements. It should not have short range because it is a sighting rifle. That's the good bit. The bad bit is that you have to eyeball it for CQC.

Oh god... Imagine if you're creeping through the forest, your group just saw a car go by, stop, and people get out, and you're tense, and then someone just lets out a massive THPPPBBBBT! Two people jump and shoot wildly, your entire group opens up on something, and then you finally calm down and the guy who farted says "That... That was just me... I farted..."

You don't know how gravity works, do you?

To hell with primary weapons says the medic

Leave. Good idea, and well balanced within the game. I just hate what people think defibrillator's do. -
Think carefully about this: he's talking about a suit of plate mail. Found in rundown castles. That in itself is ridiculous. Unrealistic to the max, if you will. A) the metal would have corroded over the years, B ) there would be no padded fabrics that normally come with the suit in good condition, C) plate mail wasn't common in France or England, let alone eastern Europe. Add to that the fact that the reason knights were mounted is because they could barely walk in that armor, and they had TRAINED in the stuff for years. Your average infantryman couldn't even do that, let alone a civilian. Mail doesn't just pop on and grow lighter. You can barely shuffle in that stuff if you have full combat gear on. Alongside that, his suggestion of the metal being shiny is ridiculous. They didn't have shined metal combat armour. They had dull metal because it was supposed to be tough, not pretty. So a large amount of his post IS unrealistic. I understand your point of view as a moderator, but we have to point out that this suggestion is stupid. Plain and simple.

Okay, for those of you who are saying that this is a Zombie game... That one guy... So what? It's supposed to imitate what being in a zombie apocalypse would be like. A defibrillator, AS MANY PEOPLE HAVE SAID, is used to adjust the rhythm of a BEATING heart. It is not capable of restarting a heart. That's the job of CPR, which is capable of restarting a heart. At that point, you would apply an AED in order to test the rhythm, and if it's a fibrillated rhythm, you shock. Otherwise, you can't do shit. To recap: you can't restart a heart without manual interaction. A defibrillator isn't magical. It can't do much aside from adjust the rhythm, from a problematic one to a safer one. The only way I could see this happening is if their blood were low, they went unconscious and went into cardiac arrest, which would be hard as hell to spot. You could do CPR and shock them in time to transfuse them, which would have a low percentage of working. That's about it.

Well, the idea here is that they could model it at home, then post it. They could receive compensation based upon polygon count, quality, and low, mid, and high-res models, for distance model switches.
-
No, if only because most wounds in this scenario would not induce V-Tach or V-Fibrillation, the two heart conditions which are capable of being reversed by a defibrillator. Also, you would not often find a battery powered defibrillator with paddles which are capable of being used in this sort of scenario. The closest thing you'll find is an AED, which is only good for about five shocks, on full battery.

Well, it WOULD do more damage to anything to be hit point blank by a slug from a shotgun. Because a slug from a shotgun is larger. It's not as fast, but it doesn't matter if the AM round doesn't tumble. The slug is more likely to slow down more compared to an FMJ 12.7x99mm round.

I think it should have an adjusting third person, which moves forward or backward as you are enclosed. When you are right up against a wall, you can only really see the wall, just like in first person. This is obviously for the standalone, if that happens to use the RV4 engine, then that could be an issue...

Epic. Just epic. -
Have you actually tried to make a friction fire with just sticks and rocks? It's a pain in the ass. So is firesteel. I've tried both. I failed on the first one, second one needs lint to be most effective.

Well, you see, the reason why it's not OP is that it's damn near impossible to find one.
-
Then let me give you the response you've been waiting for. No. It's not feasible. It's not POSSIBLE. The engine barely runs well on good rigs. The PS Vita, which is worse than even my rig, which can barely run this at low settings, would choke on it. When they said watered down, they meant that the engine, the graphics, the mechanics, et cetera would have be watered down, not just the inputs, which would have to be simplified to arcade levels. It's simple: this is a simulator, not a mobile game. It can't be done with any foreseeable generation of handheld devices. Not until an i5, GTX 560 TI and 6 Gb of RAM can be crammed into one without overheating it.

Yes, because an ACOG is uncommon on an M16A2. Trust me, for a military base, which America would have used in the ArmA 2 conflict, this could be seen as set after that conflict in the Alpha, and they would have brought in military weapons. An ACOG is standard issue for medium range battle.

Too much complaining about 3rd person view
pfheonix replied to UberFAKnNooB's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The reason third person was included in ArmA 2 is that an FoV of 180 is standard for human binocular vision. You don't get that in the game because it has 90 FOV, I think. Third person was to allow more natural vision, which sadly causes stuff like this. Third person is, and bear with me, the more realistic view mode, if only because it gives you a more realistic range of vision, but is set too high up. Either way, however, it is a feature which allows for much better situational awareness with or without this sort of peeking, and provides a way of experiencing your character as well. -
And how would the developer make the mod standalone when it's still in Alpha? He requires the base engine from ArmA 2 and Operation Arrowhead for the mod, which is a mod because it modifies Arma 2. So, when you get over yourself and decide to pay the 30 dollars, just 30, to buy a game which is great itself but better with Day Z, come back to the forums. Jesus, you won't even take criticism.
-
You generally can't turn off the night vision in that scope. It's not Night-Vision goggles, it's a night vision scope. You can't turn that off, due to the passive nature of the scope. It's not more realistic.

Game changer (Server supplies/gear ratios)
pfheonix replied to CerebralZombie (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This could also mess up the balance of cross-server play. If you play on multiple servers over time, you'll change from high gear spawn to low gear spawn and low food spawn to high food spawn, and that could actually disrupt certain aspects. Just constructive criticism to consider here. -
No leveling up. NO STATS. NO EXPERIENCE. You should get better at aiming, and you should have a more efficient movement ability. Nothing beats an out-and-out run, and you're not going to get better at if after ten minutes. You won't get great at it at all in some sort of apocalypse, because food is limited, meaning you won't have enough nutrients to create and sustain muscle. You'll get thinner, but weaker. You're not going to get stronger.

It would indeed be interesting...
