I think you did the right thing. :) New players can hit the wrong buttons pretty easily, and being stressed and nervous being confronted by another player like that can make it worse. I love that this game has true friendly fire. Accidental or on purpose.. it still hurts. The only difference is with an accident you can (hopefully) have time to bandage up your friend before it's too late. Plus it teaches players they need to stay behind the guy with the gun and not run out into the middle of gunfire like I did when I first started playing; accustomed to games like WoW where friendly players can't hurt you as I was!

You can't trust heroes if you're a hero
cindyanne1 replied to CoolCain10's topic in New Player Discussion
From one hero to another I think this is horrible. :( -
I think a "gaming laptop" is an oxymoron, to be honest. I mean, they try. Lord knows they try. I had an Alienware laptop that was the cat's meow for gaming... until it burned itself up in a Big Fiery Ball Visible From Space (okay not really on the fiery ball part, but...) You get so much more for your money if you get a desktop and you'll get better gaming ability too. Laptops just can't hold all the graphics cards and fans and what-all they need to be a good gaming system that lasts. Just my thoughts. :)

Regular Vs Veteran Vs Expert Differences?
cindyanne1 replied to archangelalien's topic in New Player Discussion
Personally I think the zombies hit harder on veteran servers too. And they seem to see you from farther away and they don't forget about you as easily. Maybe that was all in my mind though... but dang. O_o -
When your character is in pain or low on health (blood) you start to see things faded and blurry. It drives me around the twist, but that's the way it is. It makes it more of a real -life simulator, as much as it can. The first time someone gave my guy a blood transfusion, I was like Oooooo look at the preeeeetty colors, lol. Sometimes you don't notice how much you've faded until you suddenly get back to full health like that! XD

Green "passed out" hourglass upon login every time?
cindyanne1 posted a topic in New Player Discussion
This is wierd... the last four times I've logged into the game, my character has been passed out. His health is good, he's not bleeding; he's not really in any danger since I tend to log him out in safe places, but it's getting a bit annoying having to wait for the hourglass to clear before I can continue play. Is this happening to anyone else? It's almost like a "login cooldown" or whatever... where you're not able to do anything upon initial login. At least it's better than the random teleportation I was getting! XD -
Hear, hear! I'm one of the good ones. :) In a real zombie apocolypse I'm afraid I'd just be chow, lol.

Looks very nice! What is that thing sitting on the ground between the 4-wheeler and the tent on the left? It looks like a little remote controlled car toy. XD

So I updated to version 1.7.2.5 last night (absolutely love DayZ Commander!) and when I logged in after the update I noticed my character was wearing a plaid shirt. Was he always wearing it and I just didn't notice? Here's a picture, forgive the dim light... it's early morning and having a thunderstorm in the game at the moment. I can't believe I didn't notice it before if it was there. I must have been having more graphics issues than I thought. O_o

SIX LAUNCHER UPDATE, AM I DOING SOMETHING WRONG?
cindyanne1 replied to Nickds54's topic in New Player Discussion
This. It really is. Although my McAfee didn't want me to install it at all... I had to over-ride it several times. Still, I took my chances and I'm really glad I did. It's so much better than Six Launcher. -
And to answer your question about is this how people would act in a similar real-life situation... I was thinking about that the other day and I think it is. See, eventually... with time, people would start to come together. We'd stop being so paranoid and thinking about the survival of number one. We'd realize that to build a society back we'd have to join up, help each other, etc. We're just... not there yet in this game. It would come later. But right now, in game, it's still too soon for most people to be thinking about rebuilding a society and I think a lot of people would be out just for number one at this point. I think it's good you're feeling apologetic. :)

Wow! I had no idea, lol! Awww, just look at him being all hero and stuff. :3 That's pretty cool! :D

Reminds me of someone in my game a few nights back... met up with him in the store in Cherno, I was flat on my belly and looting a pile with canned goods in it, armed only with an axe but I had a decent pack since the store had some Czeck packs in it. He was wearing a ghillie suit and had an assault rifle. "Gum, are you friendly?" he asked and I replied I was. He followed me for a little bit (I never got up out of prone, fully expecting to get a shot in the back any minute) but to my surprise he said, "Look in your bag and don't you dare use it on me!" He'd given me an assault rifle (I don't know which kind.) I thanked him but didn't equip it... didn't want him to think I was going to shoot him, you know? And I kept on my search of the store. Then he says, "Come with me and help me kill these guys." I soon found out by "guys" he meant players, not zombies. "Oh I don't PvP," I told him. "Thank you anyway, but it's not my style." and I dropped the gun he gave me so he could have it back, saluted him, and turned to go back into the store. He shot me. :(

Next thing you know we'll have horses and be able to ride them instead of having to find gas powered vehic... Hmmm... Hey, what did happen to all the horses?

PLEASE. bring the starting gun back for use new players.
cindyanne1 replied to blaxar's topic in New Player Discussion
Guns really aren't that great anyway in my opinion. The ones you find in the starting areas (if you do find any) are too loud and you'll end up aggroing a huge load of zombies and then (of course) run out of ammo at the worst possible moment. :S I think the best starter weapon is the lowly hatchet. They're quiet, they have other uses (chopping wood for cooking fires) they never run out of ammo, and they're practically everywhere. -
NEW ENCOUNTER ADDED OMG - SWAMP MONSTERS OMG WTF

Haha that's cute! :P -
A hatchet... or just some decoration to the rustic farmlandview..?
cindyanne1 replied to Colonel_Crunch's topic in New Player Discussion
Yeah, that particular axe is just a decoration (I tried to pick it up too lol) but there are lots of hatchets you can use. They will be lying on the floor, usually in corners of buildings generally. Another thing that made me -_- was the pumpkins. Here I am, hungry... and I come across a garden with lots of ripe pumpkins... but I can't eat them. Noooooo lol. Perhaps in the standalone game they'll make lootable gardens/trees that spawn fruits/vegetables that our characters can eat. I mean, it appears to be autumn in the game so it's not out of the question we'd find something edible growing somewhere. Edit: Oh, and fish! We need to be able to fish for food in this game too. All that ocean around and we wouldn't be trying to fish? Okay someone stop me before I turn this game into WoW. /slinks away -
I hadn't come into contact with any until the last several days. I came across a hacked stack of crates full of weapons and other gear, and then later I was playing and was teleported to "Thunderdome." It came up and said across the screen, "Welcome to Thunderdome, weapons are in the crates, last one standing wins!" Buh? Then back on that same realm I was on a new spawn (I'd died in the thunderdome lol) and someone instantly killed the entire server. I keeled over dead in the middle of a field, and I could see by all the names scrolling on the left that everyone else had died in that moment too. I also came in contact with a hacker apparently in this video: (the hack happens at 0:33)But yeah... sometimes people are just picked off by a sniper who is up on top of a building somewhere with a silenced rifle, and they claim it was a hack. Well, it may or may not have been. We don't know how that sniper found that rifle or how that rifle came to be in the game. The rifle itself may have come from a hacked crate of weapons, but the player wielding it may or may not have hacked the game; he could have just found it by chance or looted it from a corpse himself, we don't know. But if the rifle wouldn't have been in the game otherwise except for a hacker originally putting it there... did you just die from a hack? Yes, in a manner of speaking.

Personally I am not afraid to die. However, at present, my husband and I share a CD-key, and therefore share a character. After he's been playing and has acquired a lot of stuff, I don't like to play because I'm afraid I'll lose him. It just happened this morning. The character had gotten sick, and I had some antibiotics stashed in a tent near Cherno. My husband had logged him off in Stary. O_o So, I thought I'd go ahead and just run him to the tent and get the antibiotics. I did that, no problem. Killed a cow, cooked some meat, and had him back to full health. Yay! Then I decided to go see if the fishing boat I'd saved was still there (near Kamenka.) I took off toward that way, and got one-shotted over the head from behind by a zombie (freaking OP zombies I swear) and I fainted. I thought I'd have enough blood to outlive the faint, but no... the zombie apparently called over five of his friends for dinner. SIGH. I did respawn pretty close and was able to get most of the gear back, but my husband has lost the ghillie suit he found and was so happy with since you can't loot them back off your corpse. Screw that crap. I logged out and I'm not logging back in until 1) I get my own damn CD key or 2) my husband gets himself killed so I won't feel guilty, geez.

I was on a server last night that was being hacked like crazy. First, we were all teleported into... somewhere... and a message came up that said something like "Welcome to Thunderdome, weapons are in the crates, last one standing wins!" And I was of course shot and died. Logged back into the same server (why not, right? I mean in some crazy twisted way it was entertaining...) and the chat box to the bottom left started going nuts with spam messages in red. Just stupid stuff like "so and so makes himself the admin" and stuff like that. Then, all of a sudden, as I was trotting through some small town on the coast, poof... we were all dead. the entire server was killed in one blow. I could see the names of everyone in the chat box had died, all at the same time. I'm not sure why that happened; I justified it to myself by thinking it was the admin's way of getting back at the hackers that had caused the Thunderdome problem, but it probably wasn't it at all. It was probably just more hax. I... didn't log back on lol.

I had died in Cherno, and since I'd had some things I wanted to get back, when I respawned in Kamenka I decided to try and make the long run to Cherno and take my chances. Anyway, on the coast somewhere between Kamenka and Komarovo, I saw what looked like a big post coming up out of the ground. When I got closer, I could see that it was a stack of wooden crates. Of course I clicked on it, and it looked like there were five of every gun in the game. Like five FN FAL's and five DMR's, and I don't even know what all. The list went on forever. Plus all the ammo, and other items like medications and things to build barricades and portable generators. I got freaked out and logged off. Later, I wanted to show it to my husband when he came in, so I logged back in. It was still there, but there were people around it, and my character was shot. My husband respawned him back in a few times, trying to get close to the area again, and finally we got Kamenka again. We ran over, and there was a full-out battle over this stuff going on. It was crazy. Anyway I'd never seen any hacks before (at least that I knew of) but this time I'm sure I did! No wonder so many people in this game seem to have so many guns lol.

Is there a certain way you need to log out to not lose all of your gear?
cindyanne1 replied to Lionheart012's topic in New Player Discussion
It might matter that you changed servers. From what I understand (and I only partially understand this) there are "hive" and "non-hive" servers. If you obtain gear on a non-hive server and then go back onto a hive, you will lose it. I think non-hive servers are created that way to help new players learn the game; they discourage player vs. player action, etc. -
What should I bring when I go to hunt for vehicles?
cindyanne1 replied to Obsolescence's topic in New Player Discussion
Okay I feel really silly asking this but... how can you tell the difference between the vehicles that need repaired and the ones you can just hop in and drive? Of course, I've never come across one you can just hop in and drive; the only vehicles I've found have been a bicycle that wouldn't move and an overturned quad someone had abandoned. How do you know what the vehicles need to be repaired? How can you tell which ones you *can* repair when you see them vs. the rusted heaps that are sitting everywhere? -
How to fix the spawn on the coast glitch...
cindyanne1 replied to xNeRo's topic in New Player Discussion
Hmm I was thinking the teleportation upon logout glitch was part of the last patch to discourage server-hopping. I didn't ever see anything official about it; just thought that must be it because when I returned to the last server I was on, it wouldn't happen, but if I changed servers to log back in, I'd be along the coast somewhere. Has anyone else noticed you don't get ported if you go back in on the same server you were on? -
Hmm wonder if I could change a cd key manually. My husband I would really like to play together but we'd need two copies of Arma. I don't mind buying another copy, but the game is already installed on both our computers under the same cd key. But I didn't use Steam to buy it. :\
