The skin changes back. My other guy (my husband's guy now) always starts off every new login with 0 humanity, but he keeps the hero skin. Whereas my guy starts off with 5000 even, and has a normal skin but will change to hero if I do something that increases humanity until I log in again, then he goes back to the normal. :(

It sounds really great... I'd love to be a part of it, but my gaming time is so varied and unpredictable. Still, though... this kind of philosophy fits in with my gaming style in this game. I'll never kill another player. Never. No matter if they will kill me first, no matter if they have something cool (really, what else is "cool" besides guns and I don't carry one of those, so...) I'll help however I can if someone asks me, unless they're asking me to kill. That I won't do. Really glad you are doing this. :)

I think there should be something more than just a difference in clothing as perks for both hero and bandit. My husband and I were talking about this earlier, and we think perhaps a hero could have a larger health pool, but a bandit would have greater accuracy (and/or less vunerable to pain.) Something like that. I do like the pet idea, though too!

Beware of the hacker spawned Hueys. :( A friend of mine was spawning as a new life on the coast and there was a Huey there. On the coast. Fully operational. He was thrilled, and came to pick up my husband and I in it. We flew around for a while (he'd been practicing in the Arma tutorial) and then suddenly he was teleported to the middle of the ocean and the helicopter crashed, killing my husband and I. I said at the time "Well you know this was too good to be true. At least it was fun while it lasted, right?" That said, I did find the chopper on Skalisty Island once. It needed everything, but if I'd thought ahead and brought it all with me (or some friends with all of it) we'd have had a helicopter, lol.

I don't dream about it (but then again I don't remember dreams hardly at all so who knows...) but one thing I do find myself doing is "seeing" DayZ in the real world. I think it's because of the way DayZ is made: it's not really animated, per se... it's actual pictures of real things that are put into the game, and that makes it easier to notice things in the real world that look the same. Like I live in a rural area, and I see "lootable barns" everywhere now, lol. Or even when the news is on and it's showing pictures of buildings and I notice a ladder going up the side... I find myself thinking that looks familiar. :P

Hmm... usually when you change into a ghillie suit you will have a package in your inventory called "civilian clothes." Those are the ones you just changed out of. Since it was all done by a hack though, I'm not sure if that package would show up for you. If it did, you just click on it, and you'll now have a package that says "ghillie suit" that can be dropped. If all else fails, get some zombie aggro and run to a spot where you can find your corpse again and die. You won't have it and you won't be able to loot it off your corpse either. I don't like ghillie suits. :( They make you come up as a "sniper" when other players see you... even if you don't have a gun equipped. That's not my style at all, so I don't wear them either. Besides, they cover up my pretty plaid shirt. ;)

I found a trenching tool... but when I moused over it and read the tooltip, it said something about needing an engineering pack. What does that mean? I've never seen one of those in the game yet...

I have a friend who I'm trying to talk into playing DayZ. I'm not sure how to go about telling him to actually get the mod though. Does he still need to download it through the Six Updater as it shows on the website, or can he just install DayZ Commander right after he installs Arma II Combined Ops and have the DayZ Commander install the mod? I guess I want to avoid telling him to install Arma, then install DayZ with Six, then install DayZ Commander and forget about Six, lol. I can only imagine how confusing it might sound to a new player. :)

I thought the same thing when I read it... what a silly thing to do lol. I'm glad it doesn't make it so bandits can't wear them. I forget where I read it but good to know it wasn't correct info!

Yes! This is the way I feel too. I mean, it's not like you have to level *gags* or anything like that again. All you need to do is find some stuff and you can be right back where you were (or even better off!) than you were before. Dying is really not a big deal in this game. It's what keeps it interesting. :)

Yes, if you are a "good guy" (it's all relative, right?) then you get a plaid shirt and knee pads (see my guy down below.) You can also still wear ghillie suits and camo. If you are a "bad guy," then you get a towel wrapped around your head. Also from what I understand, you are no longer able to wear ghillie suits or camo.

Yep! :D Although the real question is, do you play with a male or female character? Me? I play with a male, because IMO the female model just looks too bland. :\

My screenshot thing is the same way. I'm sure it's some setting I have wrong, but with certain games I can't take screenshots using the print screen key... it seems as though it takes a picture "behind" the game. The only way I can do it is to run Fraps and then take screenshots of the movie as it plays back. Highly annoying lol.

I feel as though this mod took off so quickly, and became so popular so fast, that the creators simply couldn't keep up with it and/or were not equipped to keep up with it. It's a great game, though, and I have high hopes for it as it goes through the process of becoming a stand-alone title.

Could it have been from your ping being too high? That's happened to me. Also, my husband and I have one copy of Arma Combined Ops, and it's on two different computers. We tried to both log into DayZ to play together and it would kick us off the game then too... because we need two copies of Arma in order to play together (which I have no problem buying, but hey... you can't blame us for trying, right? LOL) Anyway, could it be that your CD key was in use by someone else or maybe your ping was too high?

Not gonna lie... I did get upset the first few times I had something worth keeping and another player killed me. Coming from a game like World of Warcraft where yeah... you die... but you don't start over with nothing, that took some getting used to. But then I realized, this is the game. This is what it's supposed to be. And there's a certain freedom in dying and starting over fresh. Who knows, this life may be even better than the last. Maybe I'll spawn in an area I've never seen. Maybe I'll find something I wouldn't have found otherwise since if I hadn't died I'd be in a different spot. You just never know!

I think they are attracted to flashlights, and chemlights, and road flares... and all of that. It may not cause actual aggro, but like you say... they will wander over to investigate it, which makes it more likely they will aggro on you.

From what I understand, when the game first started, you began life with a pistol and two cans of beans, along with the flashlight and bandage. That's probably where all the "killing for beans" jokes and memes came from with regard to this game. People just killing fresh spawns for beans. Need food? Head to spawn points and wait for new spawns... they have beans! I kind of like that you start with nothing of real value. Within the first five minutes of gameplay you can generally find a hatchet at the very least, and from that point on you can protect yourself against zombies well enough to find food, drinks, a knife... etc.

I imagine when this becomes a stand-alone game, there will be an endgame of some sort. What, though... I don't know. The "sandbox" aspect of this game is one of its great appeals, so it will be tricky to design an endgame that doesn't feel like the be-all and end-all of the entire game itself, but rather something optional that happens if you are ready and willing for it to happen. I am visualizing something having to do with the rebuilding of society, but I'm not sure what.

I have eyesight problems in real life, so yeah... even though I actually prefer playing at night in this game since it is safer, it's difficult for me. I'm lucky enough to have a computer that, when I adjust the gamma up all the way, makes the game look much like a black-and-white television. You could try that. Also, if you use DayZ Commander to find (or just randomly find) a realm that is in the daytime, hit the letter "i" when you are in game... it will tell you your current server number so you can then let your friends know. If they go into the realm selection screen and hit the "filter" button, they can type in that number you give them and it will pull up the server you are on for them so they can join it. Have fun! :D

YES!! In this game's world, we're the ones who will help bring about the new society and build humanity back to what it once was. Well... if we don't get killed first. :P

Nooooo! Don't let them change you! Keep fighting the good fight! I'm friendly, always. When I meet up with other players I declare it, and then usually lie down prone and turn away from them. If they want to shoot me, they'll have to shoot me in the back as I'm lying in the dirt. Some do. Others hesitate... are you really, they'll ask... and I assure them I am. If they don't kill me, I'll give them blood or food or medicaiton or whatever they need.

Mine does the same thing. See before I updated to the latest version, I didn't even have "humanity" on my debug monitor. I spawned for the first time post-update with a hero skin, but my humanity was zero. I figure I must have accumulated over 5000 up to that point but every time I log in, it resets. I assume it's "counted" on some kind of internal monitor and what I gain during each play session adds to that total. I have no idea what my total is though. It doesn't matter. I'll never kill anyone. :)

If it's what causes the extremely slow loading then I hate it too. >:|
