Okay so I loved... LOVED the DayZ mod for Arma 2 OA. But then, stuff happened... I got a new computer, didn't install Arma or DayZ Commander on it... got into some other games, etc. etc. I did buy the DayZ alpha and tried to play it, but... it's just not the same. I found I really wanted to play the "old" DayZ again. So, I reinstalled Arma 2 and Arma 2 OA. I reinstalled DayZ Commander. I'm having an issue now with Battleye. I did not ever have an issue with Battleye before and I'm at a loss. Battleye always seemed to have been one of those automatic things that happened... well, automatically. I don't remember having to do anything special with Battleye before. It's telling me that Battleye initialization failed. What do I need to do? Thank you!

Does the Arma 2 mod not work anymore?
cindyanne1 replied to cindyanne1's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I'm still plugging away at this. Now I'm having trouble reinstalling Operation Arrowhead. I'm almost positive it has to do with one of my kids starting up my Steam account on another computer during the download. It didn't just pause the download on my end; it appears to have finished it somehow over on that computer (and mine was put into streaming mode? I'm not sure exactly...) but anyway now OA will not start up on my computer, no matter how many times I download it. It downloads completely, but then seems to reset and forget it ever downloaded. So I'm in the process of trying to figure out why it's doing that. Frustrating, lol! -

OMG I want to play it even more now, lol! I will show the error if I get it again... Arma 2 installed overnight and now I'm putting Arma 2 OA back on. I did try to do the fix on the Battleye website, but I may not have done it correctly. Wish me luck this time! -
Does the Arma 2 mod not work anymore?

Good news and bad news... good news, I installed the DayZ Launcher and was able to find the server I used to play on the most! Yay!! But... bad news is my battleye still can't be initialized, whatever that means. :( I think what I'm going to do is uninstall arma and reinstall it. Maybe something went wrong and battleye didn't install properly for some reason. -
Hi all, I'm back playing DayZ after a two-month break (I got a new computer and didn't bother installing Arma on it as I was thinking the standalone DayZ was just around the corner; however I got tired of waiting and missed the game, so I finally broke down and re-installed lol.) Anyway, I was told I could see my humanity... sort of... if I keybound the special action #20 and used it, so I did. It brought up a little journal type thing, but on the Humanity page it didn't give me a number... it showed a deuce of hearts playing card, my character's picture, and the word Hero. Well, I knew I was a hero, but what's with the deuce of hearts? Does it ever change? If I get more humanity, will it eventually turn into the Ace of Hearts or something like that? And what about the other suits; do they mean anything? Are bandits spades or clubs, or whatever? It's quite possible the suits of cards don't mean anything and that I'm reading too much into it, but I thought it was a cute little feature and wanted to learn more about it. :)

Where will you take a dump in the Standalone?
cindyanne1 replied to pr3llox's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Oh my... It'll be like the sims, won't it? Like, if we don't make our character go potty he'll start waving at us and doing a little "gotta pee!" dance, and then if we don't take care of it he'll soil himself and then cry about it for hours. :( Sigh. -
Survivor, stop yelling "Friendly friendly" when im aiming at you!

<3 Sula! I've never killed another player either, even though I've died probably hundreds of times. Keep the faith, sister! It's good to know there are others out there like me. :) -
Hate to rage quit but...

How does the humanity work on the private hives? I've seen people with hero and bandit skins on them, but if your humanity resets every time (as I've heard it does) how is that possible? I know it's a small thing really, but that's my only problem with private hives (and in the standalone game I think that's going away anyway, right? So why do I even worry about it lol.) -

Seems that it doesn't matter what server I play on... hackers are everywhere! Sometimes it's amusing in its own way though, I'll admit that. The other day I was turned into a rabbit. :P -

And you know... to be honest I don't think I mind the true bandits. The non-hacking bandits. The guys who see you have a better backpack than they do and they actually take it off your corpse. Or the guys that have a stash of food and supplies in a shed and shoot anyone who comes near. That's as much a part of the game as killing zombies in my opinion. There's going to be people who team up and protect each other and there's going to be other people wanting to take what they can from people any way they have to. That makes for a good, exciting game. I think it's the hackers that bother me. Well, they bother everyone. The guys that teleport right to where you are, crouched in a building in the dark, and shoot you in the head with a silenced machine gun before teleporting away again. That's... that's not a bandit. Not really. I think all true players in this game, heroes and bandits alike, would agree with me on that! -

There's something I've been wondering about... in the no-pvp areas, is friendly fire disabled or are people just on their honor to not kill each other on purpose? A no-pvp (or reduced pvp) server sounds like heaven to me. I've never killed another player ever, but after seeing some of the things I've seen in this game I can't help but think that a server that advertises less or no pvp would attract people who want to grief other players. How is that sort of thing handled? -
I happened to have Fraps running while I was playing yesterday and caught this little adventure. :) Hope you enjoy!

Thanks guys! It was a fun time. :)

Eh... I like horses as much as the next person, but as far as DayZ goes I'll have to take the opinion my father had. "A four-wheeler is so much better. It still takes your butt from A to B and you only have to feed it when you ride!" Still, I hope the SA game does incorporate more "mounts" as it were. And hopefully finds a way to make them at least semi-permanant (you can still have it stolen from you, but if you log off with it you will log back in with it... that kind of thing.)
-
Right? I mean I don't have any qualms about playing a male character (I rather like it) but honestly, I wonder why that female one is even in the game at all at this point.
-
Yeah... try backing up and approaching again, or hitting your "G" key to open your bag, sometimes that will trigger the meat to show up. Keep scrolling your mouse wheel back and forth as you target the animal, it will eventually bring up the option to take the meat.
-
I've come across those, myself. Out of one I did take some meat and medical supplies... but I don't touch the weapons. I don't do well with guns in this game. >_> They're really nothing but people-killers... Lord knows if you try to use them against zombies you'll end up bringing a whole mob of them and run out of bullets at the most inopportune moment (had that happen more than once let me tell you!) I always die to the stupidest things when I'm carrying a gun. Not to mention if you do put all the ammo you'll need in your bags, you have no room for anything else. I guess they're okay if you want to sit on top of a building and target practice, but for me, who likes to get out into the world and explore... they're really a handicap. Besides, things like ghillie suits and the big rifles may look cool, but they make you a walking target. Again, okay if you want to just sit on a building I guess... but that's not the way I play. :)

Why we may never know what happened.
cindyanne1 replied to I2ejected's topic in New Player Discussion
Oh, and I was going to add... are we immune to whatever it was? Are we the ones who were naturally immune somehow and that's how we are still alive? Or is it still spreading, or did we just happen to be in the right place at the right time in order to survive it? -

Wha? There's Morse code? Interesting... I'll have to go there and check that out. Can you only hear it with a radio or some such? I'm with you about the Infected. :( It is sad, but when you see all of them... and for some reason the ones in business suits bother me the most... I mean, they were human once. And is it me or are the military zombies faster/more agile than your average everyday hobo zombie? :\ They seem like they are, which adds even more depth IMO. It's like on some level they remember what they once were. -
Seconding using DayZ Commander. Probably what is causing your problem is a discrepancy between your version of DayZ and the server's version. For best performance, both you and the server need to be using the same version of DayZ. DayZ Commander will enable you to update to the latest verions of DayZ (the one ending in .5) and the latest version of Arma... and you can sort the servers to only show you the ones that are running the same versions of the game you are running. You can also set it to show you only daytime servers (or nighttime,) only servers that allow third person... etc. It's great!

Okay, I had originally purchased Arma II Combined Ops through Amazon, and installed it on my computer. My husband played it too, but since we had one CD key, we had to share a character. I played him most of the time, though, and acquired a good deal of humanity, since when we upgraded to the .5 patch, he showed up with a hero skin (that's him in my picture.) Anyway, my husband and I decided we'd like to play together, so I installed the Amazon copy of Arma on his computer too. We (of course) tried to log in at the same time, but (of course) couldn't since we needed two cd-keys. Well, says I... we tried, but looks like we'll have to fork over the $30, lol. So, I uninstalled Arma from my computer, and we bought a new copy for me through Steam. Just to be on the safe side, I also uninstalled/reinstalled DayZ Commander, and upgraded it through all the latest updates. I started off with a new character, at 2500 humanity. It didn't take long, though, for me to reach nearly 5000. Yesterday I was be-bopping along in Cherno and (figuratively of course) tripped over a bandit lying prone on the ground pointing a rifle. After restarting my real-life heart, I said in chat I was friendly and that I was going to give him a blood transfusion since the option came up for me. I don't know if he was afk or what, but I gave the transfusion and... boom! Got my hero skin! I said in direct chat, "Thanks, you helped me get a new shirt!" and scuttled away. Didn't want to take any chances with that guy. ;) But I didn't keep it. :( My humanity reset to zero when I got it, which was... well, I didn't worry about it, since I thought that was supposed to happen I guess? But when I relogged, I was at 5000 humanity and back to a plain outfit. I had my husband log in, and followed him around until he needed some painkillers... gave him some, and boom... hero skin again. But the same thing happened again the next time I logged in... back to 5000 humanity and a normal outfit. It's getting pretty frustrating. :( Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
-
I guess I could play the first version we have that has the hero skin and let my husband play the new one lol. It would just be a bit of a pain, since I prefer to play on my computer in the kitchen where I can keep an eye on the household vs. back in the bedroom where his is... but it's really just a matter of uninstalling and reinstalling X 2. Just a matter of babysitting computers for a day, right? :) Gah... stupid bugs. :(
-
Well, if you have a friend who trusts you, or make some in game, give each other blood, medications, bandages, etc. It raises humanity. Or... if nothing else... you could uninstall your version of Arma, purchase another one, and reinstall the new one. ;) Hey, whoever said doing good in the world was free, eh? :P
