ArmA 2 engine for DayZ's future?

People like DayZ not because of its "stellar gameplay" but the idea of it. The concept of DayZ has a lot of potential if done correctly. Its execution in Arma2 is doomed to fail due to people being assholes and because the devs can't tailor the engine to their needs.

ArmA 2 engine for DayZ's future?

If they don't want the standalone DayZ to suck and fail, then it would be wiser to write your own engine or license a better one and heavily modify it. I don't know what existing engine would satisfy the needs of DayZ, gta IV perhaps. I don't know how good the fabled upcoming Unreal engine 4 is.
  3. Hackers can make other players execute scripts. They just made everybody change their FOV. I don't know if in the logs there would be a difference between you executing a script or someone doing it for you. Makes me wonder if you can get someone BE banned by doing this.
  4. 1. For gaming footage 1080p is preferred. 2. For maximum quality it should be encoded at 10 Mbit/s at 1080p. That would be 10 Mbit/s max with variable bitrate. Use x264 or H.264. 3. Record and encode at 29.97 FPS. DO NOT let your frames fall below that when recording. It looks really bad. If they do then change game settings untill they don't or upgrade your computer (mainly GPU but make sure you don't have a CPU bottleneck either). 4. In the above video the audio was bad. None of the people talking had good quality audio. 5. If you can choose your audio bitrate then choose 265 kbps. 6. Use audacity to clean up your audio if there is any problems with it. (remove background noise and normalize and equalize your voice) 7. Use audio levels that are similar to other big youtubers (if they click from their video to your video then the game and voice volume will be the same on both videos) 8. Be confident +bonus, be interesting and funny 9. Don't be monotone 10. Don't shut up 11. Don't act if you can't put on a convincing display 12. Don't try to be someone your not (you won't be able to keep it up) 13. Don't shut up. 14. Don't make meaningless commentary (repeating what you are doing on the screen) 15. People don't care about your uninteresting day. Oh you met up with Mike at the park and went go-carting? You had a blast you say? WHO IS MIKE AND WHO THE FUCK CARES? 15.5 For interesting storytellers look at Day9 and Seananners. 16. If you are going to use a live encoder, all programs that don't record in a raw format (every frame is essentially a key frame), then you are going to either need a beefy CPU or you are going to make sacrifices in compression (looks good, bigger file) or quality (encodes fast, smaller file, shit quality). Ideally you'll want a small file with good quality, but that takes up CPU. 17. If you are going to buy any recording software then it should be X Split www.xsplit.com 18. Have good upload speeds. 1 hour of 1080p footage that is encoded at 8 Mbit/s average bitrate will be 3.6 GB (you can see where all these bandicams make compromises in quality with their 1 hour = 1 GB file sizes). That is 28800 Mbits (the speed in which your upload is measured with). Personal pet peeves: I feel unwelcomed and weirded out if some youtuber I don't know starts a video saying "Whats going on all you Nimzors! Blah Blah Blah!" I'll be going "I'm not a Nimzor, who the fuck does he think he is with his 1000 subs? Good fucking bye!" I've closed the video numerous times because of that and I haven't been back to those channels. Doing something like this is beneficial if you have a lot of subs and want to create yourself a rabid fanbase who will be identifying themselves as a "Nimzor" and spreading your name, fanart and videos far and wide. It worked so well for PewDiePie because "Bro" is so generic. "Whats up Bros my name is PewDiePie...." that makes you feel welcomed and won't alienate new people, unless they take offence to "bro" and it is also something for the rabid fanboys and girls. 19. Basically make people feel welcome without alienating new viewers. 20. Same thing with inside jokes. You can sprinkle them here and there but don't alienate new people by having too many of them. Don't also go around explaining inside jokes (oh god, I've seen people do that on youtube) it defeats the purpose and will cease to be funny for everybody involved. whatever you do, DO NOT point out that you made an inside joke (seen that too) now everybody who didn't know what it was or even notice it is going to feel annoyed and left out.
  5. Some people also delete structures so that they can shoot and walk through them.

IF this was an actual game...

Game purchase only + selling cosmetic stuff. And whateverer you can think of that won't piss too many oeople off. Also: Studio developed. Standalone version is going to need tens-hundred million $ in development money, considering the scope of this game and what it should be. Community or studio servers? - How many people should be in a server? 200+ server might be out of reach for the community. Have strict, enforcable standards and go for both. Keeping up servers is expensive and would warrant a subscription model or a very very sucessful micro transaction system. Kickstarter? Kickstarter will give you money, exposure, show fat cat investors that there is a market and demand for it. Kickstarter alone won't cut it. Get investors and make a studio or let someone like Valve swoop you up.

HFB Servers is there a way to kick?

as per hosting rules you can not 1. Ban people 2. Kick people 3. password the server what control is there left?
  8. I don't really know what is in the scripts.log file, but here goes. Just some ideas to ponder on. 1. Kick if someone enters a non DayZ vehicle. 2. Kick if someone is spamming the chat (changeable settings for x messages in y time). 3. Kick if someone gets a lot of gear/specific gear shortly after spawning (don't know what safe parameters for this should be). 4. Make your program change server settings so that the integrity of arma2 files is checked (files that are the same for everybody). This will prevent people from deleting buildings, trees and whatnot. 5. A list of words or phrases that admins can come up with that will be censored, get the player muted/kicked. If the word "faggot" isn't allowed then the program should also detect "f4g0tt" "f46000000007" and any other variation. It should also let admins improve the filter. Like if 'ä' wasn't detected as a possible 'a' in the filter, then you can add it. 6. Kicks for suspicious players are streamed into a central database. From those kicks a temporary banlist will be created. Every kick will have an apropriate bantime. All servers running your program will download that banlist. An update to that list will be streamed to all servers every 10 minutes. That update will be containing names to remove and add. Bans should be 5-24 hours, depending on violation. 7. Option to give an automatic temporary ban to those kicks that don't warrant a ban from the central database (like kicks from the chat filter or whatever). Length of ban should be changeable. 8. Kick if players are detected to be moving too fast (teleporting) something bad is going to happen anyway. Might aswell kick them. This will prevent hackers from using it to help themselves and might save a few peoples lives and stuff. 9. Kick players that spawn with non-standard items. 10. Kick players who get items into their inventory when they are in a place in which no such items exist. (I don't know if you can see loot spawns/player inventories/zombie inventories/tent content/vehicle content/player corpse content) 11. Kick players who spawn in non-standard spawns (you never know what they come up with) 12. Kick if someone remains alive with negative blood. 13. Kick if someone regains blood without eating. 14. Kick if someone regains >1000 blood withouth someone with a bloodbag being near them. 15. Kick if someone fires more rounds that they have in their inventory (really doubt you can see that) 16. Kick if someone stops bleeding when they or someone else near them doesn't have a bandage. Or if there isn't a bandage on the ground/whereever near them. 17. Kick if players change skins without them having the skin in their inventory or somewhere near them. 18. Kick the people in a vehicle if it gets repaired without someone actually using the necessary items to do it.
  9. Arma 2 being a horribly broken game security wise and everything being client side, this game has become a cheater paradise. Even if 1/100 people used hacks, all it would take is for that one person is to go to 10 servers, kill everybody, and he has ruined the enjoyment for 500 other people, only that those 500 people get fucked 5 times a day. It is too easy to screw people over. BattlEye sucking doesn't help either. Btw it is much, much higher than 1 in 100. I know PunkBuster has it flaws and kicks people that aren't hacking and that VAC and BE don't have that problem, but that is because VAC and BE don't do ANYTHING! How is it possible that you can delete vegetation, and building files from your install folder, join a game and BattlEye doesn't check if the files are there or confirm their MD5 hashes? This would not be possible with punkbuster. Or you code some Direct3D shaders to override regular ones. BattlEye can't even begin to detect something like that. The biggest problem with PunkBuster games is that cheaters and hackers don't get punished. PunkBuster only kicks people, the banning is left to the server owners. This is where groups like www.pbbans.com www.punksbusted.com www.anticheatinc.net and others come in. A lot of them were recently DDOSed and are still down (shows that they are doing something right). These groups maintain banlists that are created from kicks and whatnot that are streamed to them. They also create custom MD5 and CVAR checks for cheats that punkbuster has yet to detect. PunkBuster also has a screenshot function where a screenshot is taken of a section of the players screen to check for ESP hacks and there are tools that will automatically go through them and detect hacks. Of course there are countermeasures to this like blockers (static image/rotation of images or those that causes it to fail), those that turn off everything before the image is taken and there have been some that attempted to clean them after the image is taken and before it is sent. I played America's Army for years and it had a very strong anti cheat community (3 major groups dedicated to it + many others) and on servers that were affiliated with them it was mostly peaceful. Official servers were hell because punkbuster didn't ban people by itself and they didn't run any banlists (tens of thousands of accounts were on them). The only flaw was that because America's Army was a free game you could make as many accounts as you wanted, but I imagine buying a new CD-Key would have gotten old pretty fast. The only reason PunkBuster hasn't been such a huge success outside of AA is because not many servers were part of these anti cheat communities so the punishment for hacking was mostly a kick. If Rocket can demand server admins to not kick/ban/lock the server then he can have every server run a shared banlist and checks from PBBans or some other community or even create his own. VAC is marginally better than BattlEye.

I want to experience the thunderdome

It'll last 3 seconds, you'll likely be down in 1. Same as every other encounter when someone gets a jump on you.
  11. God damnit. "A Doggy Dog World" is an episode of Rugrats. I'm pretty sure it originates from that, at least thats when I first heard it said that way. It is actually a common mis saying, many small children do it. When people use it, they usually know that "dog eat dog" is correct but use "doggy dog" instead.

    Get PunkBuster for standalone, please!

Let hope Rocket figures out this cheating stuff ASAP or it'll be the death of this mod.

    Get PunkBuster for standalone, please!

Yeah, DayZ needs to go standalone ASAP Is that still broken? That stuff is somehow related to DX 10, 11 and anti aliasing. Somehow messes with the way screenshots are taken and they turn out black. Figured they'd have fixed it, used some other DX function to grab it. Anyway my personal suspicion is is that Evenbalance is exploiting the apathy of big box publishers to rake in cash and not do shit. The detection methods haven't improved in years, but is that really the worst thing? Punkbuster is already running on SYSTEM level. People had problems with it scanning outside of the game folder. I believe that the best Anti Cheat system will come out of the game Devs and anti-cheat Devs working together. If you are not interested in your game then PB, BE or VAC have no interest in working to protect it.

    Get PunkBuster for standalone, please!

What I do is disable the steam overlay. PunkBuster kicks for those because cheats can be loaded through direct3d hooks. This proves that you did not read my post. PunkBuster does not ban people by default (only if you hack PB itself does it ban you). PB only kicks, disable your hax and its as if nothing ever happened. It is up to the server admins to ban people. (Read the part about anti cheat organisations) That is because VAC does not do much to stop hackers. PB does a lot so false positives are going to happen. The only advantage of VAC is that it bans silently, hackers play and lose their accounts as opposed to one dude getting banned and alerting the rest. Also the risk of losing your steam games acts as a deterrent. With VAC you have no control, no custom CVAR checks or MD5 checks no nothing. It is all VALVE. PunkBuster is much better at detecting hacks and harder to circumvent. The troble is is that people don't get banned.
