Well the current system is far too exploitable, and my proposed solution is also exploitable. The obvious answer is to make all servers totally separate and independent. Don't save any items, health status or locations between servers.

Server hopping is the easiest thing in the world to fix by simply removing persistent location tracking across servers. Keep persitence within a single server, and keep persistent health/inventory tracking across all servers (or don't, I don't care). Make it so that if I spawn on server 1 and hike north, then hop to server 2 I spawn back on the coast. If I then head west before hopping back to server 1 I reappear wherever I last was on Server 1, and the same when I go back to server 2.

My usual routine in DayZ has been to spawn with my Makarov+5, and immediately run North to find barns and the less frequented towns away from the coast. I would rarely, if ever, interact with other players and did everything in my power to avoid them. Since the update, I spawned on the coast and quite quickly got rumbled by a zed. The only obvious option at the time was to run a kilometer east to Elektro and hope to find a weapon in the shop. That didn't pan out because lol broken loot tables, but I did find a survivor - in Elektro - who didn't immediately murder me. He actually rescued me from the zeds, gave me a Makarov and a couple clips, and asked me to tag along with him! A few minutes later we found a third friend, and teamed up to raid the fire station. Our saviour and benefactor (a player called Matt) was shortly thereafter shot in the head by a bandit sniper who had been watching the firestation from a nearby building. Luckily another nearby friendly survivor heard the shooting, killed the bandit sniper, and shared his loot with us. The three of us then spent a solid hour or so trekking north, rummaging in barns without much luck, before eventually aggroing too many walkers at once, and I died of blood loss as my friends blasted the zeds with their shotgun and AK. Another game I had today turned out quite similarly - I was seriously low on blood and snooping in a Cherno office looking for... anything. I eventually found a survivor on the roof; crouched over a player body that was loaded with gear. I suspected the living player to have murdered the dead guy, but since I had nothing of value I took the risk of greeting him rather than running away. He didn't kill me. Instead he offered me weapons and gear, and then helped me find my way to the hospital before sharing a blood pack with me. I died shortly afterwards by falling off a ladder, but it was a great experience that showed me how PZ players can be good guys, if a little nervous and trigger-happy. I would not have had either of these good experiences if I had spawned on the coast with my makarov and 5 mags as usual, and for that reason I continue to support this new feature. The zombie aggro range and loot tables are all fucked up, though.

I've found so many shotguns this build that if I could strap them all to my body I'd have a full suit of armour. Not a single shell to be seen, however. No food either, but we all know about that.

20 words or less: Spawning without a weapon

YES Should make the early-game more interesting and promote emergent teamwork. -
Too many downsides playing night?
Landuin replied to Evilsausage's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What i'm looking forward to is when the gameplay is better developed so that we can have persistent survivor camps. When that happens the dark nights will work fine for me, because that will be the time to head to the local camp, sit around the fire and share stories and advice. Meanwhile the bandits are forced to set u camps in isolated farmhouses or under bridges, while a brave and hardy few stalk the night with flares and torches, taking the risk in hopes of finding those virgin loot spawns. In my mind the nights shoud be very different from the daytime - the darker the better as far as i'm concerned. It's just that right now the gameplay isn't developed enough to allow us to experience it in the "right" way. -
* [FIXED?] Too many zombies for the Carebears to be able to play
Landuin posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The game could really use fewer logins tbh. -
No, it needs to be fixed. Once it's been fixed to work correctly, and has been on the servers for a few days or a couple of weeks maybe then the devs can make a decision on whther or not it's working. You don't just throw out an entire idea because of a single, fixable, unintended problem.

You Do Not Get a Cold From Being Cold
Landuin replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Apart from the implementation of the cold=getting a cold being fubar, the only thing that concerns me is that the infections will make players even more mindlessly hostile towards each other. Why even take the risk of getting an infection if it'll cost you food and medication to set it right, when you could kill people on sight and avoid all the bother. -
An open letter to the silent majority

I agree with this product and/or service. -

Now there's going to be a lot fewer zeds you nincomfuckingpoops. -
LoTRO has a great music-playing system where you place .ABC midi files into a music folder, and then the instruments in-game automatically play all the required notes on command, allowing infinite variety of music, but avoiding the problems you'd get by allowing players to simply play .mp3 files directly.

Currently in Arma there's a system to write notes on a map and have them visible to other players. What I'd love is a pen+paper item that lets us write notes and drop them on the ground for other people to find. It could be used in a helpful way; to direct people to nearby stashes, or a naughty way; as a lure to get some curious survivor out into the open where they could be sniped. Or it could be just a way to record your thoughts and leave them for others to discover. It'd hopefully be a pretty simple way to let the players add texture and flavour to the world. I know somebody suggested something similar with the journals, but the idea here is something you'd write specifically for other people, as opposed to something you'd keep for yourself.

Cooking a steak can be done without utensiles for real by simply heating some rocks, digging a little pit and putting hot coals/rocks and the steak in there and covering it over for a few hours, but cooking a boiled egg is impossible without water and something to hold it in.

I like the idea of bikes, but there should be risks. Taking a bike off-road should basically entail a constantly increasing risk of getting a punctured tire, which would force you to have a spare or to discard the bike. There could also be a risk of falling off and sustaining an injury when going over particularly difficult terrain to balance out the advantages of that extra speed. Oh, and they definitely shouldn't be quiet. Bikes are pretty noisy when being actively pedalled on anything other than level road.

I like the idea of pickable eggs. All we need then is the ability to find pots, and be able to combine an egg+pot+fresh water+camp fire for delicious hard-boiled eggs! :D edit: I'm going to go make some right now!

What's your favorite playstyle/occupation?
Landuin replied to qbert's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Loner and explorer. I prefer to roam inland away from other survivors. I don't particularly make a distinction between bandit/survivor. If I have enough food, meds and ammo to keep me going I'll make friends with anybody, but if I'm running low I don't hesitate to kill others to get what I need. -
Date/Time: 18 May 6pm GMT/ and again at around 9pm gmt What happened: I died, and then respawned without losing any items or weapons. Where you were: Near Electro the first time, out in the wilderness the second time. What you were doing: First time I was shot in a barn by a survivor. Second time a ladder glitched and I fell to my death. Rejoined the server both times and got the glitch. *Current installed version: 1.6.0 I believe. *Server(s) you were on: Can't remember specifically, but I think it was a UK server first time and a DE server the second. *Your system specs: 3.20GHz quad core intel i5, 6GB RAM, NVidia GeForce GTS 240 *Timeline of events before/after error: First time I'd been logged in for about five minutes, done nothing except search a barn, cllect a gun or two before being shot and killed. Second time I just climbed a ladder, fell off and died. I might have hit the respawn button at some point by mistake, but not sure if that's relevant.
