  1. I am actually in complete disagreement with the thread starter. This is not an "Alpha" this is an open beta. The actual alpha was the mod... and they actually made people pay for this game prior to including all of the items that were in the actual alpha. This is nothing more than the developer cashing in on the name at an opportune time.

    Any Vanilla DayZ Servers Left?

US6299 just came up and is 100% Vanilla. No BS no added buildings... straight DayZ
  3. Really? This is almost unbelievable. Most companies don't charge people for helping them Beta test... let alone paying money for what standalone currently is. I really don't see a justification for this other than cashing in on the title now. Maybe a game developer can come shed light on what the reasoning behind this is as at this point it makes little sense other than abject greed.
  4. As the title suggests I was wondering when tents would be implemented.
  5. As the title suggests right now the Mosin Nagant has a very large bullet wander over distance. At 550 meters it was extremely difficult to hit a target as the bullet was wandering up to 3.5 meters (roughly) from my aiming point. The Mosin was a rifle used by snipers in World War 2... (yes Enemy At the Gates Vasiliy Zaytsev) but also by the legendary White Death... Simo Hayha. A good Mosin has a bullet wander of approximately 2-3" at 100 meters. Multiply that by 5.5 and you'll get a wander of roughly 10.5 - 15.5 inches. That's an acceptable wander for such a rifle in pristine condition. My wander of 7 meters (3.5 in either direction) mean's the rifle is shooting a 1.2 meter grouping at 100 meters meaning that the Mosin is over twice as inaccurate in the game at 100m as a real life one is at 550m.... Now, this was using a pristine long range scope but I had to do my shots from the kneeling position. The reason being that when zero'd my rifle invariably shot into the ground at the tip of my barrel despite the fact that I was on a hill. Love to hear a differing opinion on the matter... but in my opinion right now the Mosin needs some lovin'
  6. I had a run in today with a hacker. I couldn't believe that they were out already so I typed in DayZ Hacks on google and was very surprised to see about 5 or 6 paid for hacks already on the market. The reality is that no matter what you do or where you play people are going to cheat. I just hope that those who are already aimbotting and wall-hacking get banned from all of their steam games and not just DayZ.
  7. Well... that is the main issue with a game that has linked servers. This isn't what I would call "Server Hopping" though its what I call "Ghosting" and on my DayZ Mod server it was a bannable offense. Ghosting is cheating. Unfortunately with how loot is dispersed right now server hopping is going to be a way of life until its changed. I literally cannot find anything on a server sometimes and it practically forces me to switch to a server that's been restarted recently. That's just reality of loot spawn @ server startup. That being said though... maybe only allowing people to log out in a forest or area away from a city / town would be beneficial at the moment.

    Mosin with Long Range Scope

This is easily remedied using a bipod attachment and being prone. Crazy as this sounds... I was pissed off too because I couldn't hit anything beyond 400 reasonably... with a bipod I took some one out at roughly 700 meters in one shot.
  9. This shot is 350 - 400 meters... good shot with the scope you have... but far below the distances I want to hit people at.
  10. Actually... that seems to be the solution to my issue. Having a Bipod on the rifle GREATLY increases its effectiveness beyond 300 meters.... its a tack driver and hits very close to exactly what a real one is capable of hitting. So... THE SOLUTION to my issue is to have a bipod deployed and be prone. Hitting the ground at the barrel of the gun.... that's another issue.

    Correcting SA ballistics

If they go to reality with round-ball ammunition (like that being fired from buckshot) they should be using Journee's Formula. And, if they did your ballistic equivalencies and ranges / speed may be off significantly.
  12. I've been distance shooting for a pretty good chunk of my life... and its not too often when I see a game that is overstating the ineffectiveness of a distance rifle. Usually its the other way around (like the M98B in Battlefield 3).
  13. I'm a civillian and I can shoot a handgun free standing more accurately than this guy is shooting a rifle at 500 meters. 8 Meter Spread... total garbage.
  14. It is NOT windage... the bullet's are "wandering" due to weapon inaccuracy. if it was windage I'd be consistently moving to an area but it's actually all over the place...
  15. Agreed... because then it is a consistent movement to a specific direction and you are able to calculate roughly the general location of the bullet. Unfortunately most games go completely bonkers and overboard in calculating the affect of windage etc. and have even included the corealis effect for sub 1,000 meter shots.. which is almost negligible for that distance.
  16. I zero'd in on a barraks @ 500 and it was roughly a foot low... I then zero'd for 600 and it was a foot and a half high... I'm guessing it was anywhere from 540 - 560 meters away.

So the bush trick still works

So does ladder clipping to get to the top of firehalls....
  18. Been playing for a bit now and I've noticed quite a few things that I think are probably needing to be adjusted. And since this is an open ended question I think I'll go first and add in more as time goes on. 1.) Melee combat is a mess to use at the moment. I've hit people repeatedly with a crowbar (beyond the point of ridiculous) and they just won't die. Also, swinging it indoors is insanity. I can't even tell what the hell I'm hitting inside a building. 2.) Sick of playing night all day... and all night... 3.) Food / Water makes zero sense. I drink water... "I need a drink badly" literally 10 seconds later. 4.) Weapon availability seems limited to army camps / barracks. Pretty much what I'm seeing are players server shopping and gearing out rather than playing the way this game is intended. Its frustrating for players who pick a server and play for 3 hours to be far outgeared by someone who simply switched servers 3-4 times in the exact same spot in less than 5 minutes. Spreading loot out from these "hot spots" would alleviate that issue markedly... and I'm sure in the end this will be adjusted. 5.) Wearing an orange rain coat and a chest holster made my clothes fall on the ground and my body appeared invisible. 6.) Not enough zombies. 7.) Loot spawn's in general. You find a gun... no ammo... you find ammo... no gun... you find a gun and ammo.. no mag. You go to a school and find an m4a1 but you can't find food in the store and I've yet to see a bandage. Loot needs to be tweaked in short. 8.) Hitting tab when you're standing by loot is sporadic at best. I can literally be looking at something and hit tab.... only to not see it. 9.) Lack of side-chat. I know this is a contended issue but from both a player and server administrator point of view it affects the server negatively to not have it. Having it reduced KoS players and also increased the overall community feel on the server I hosted and not having it makes it feel as though I'm playing by myself even on a packed server. Hopefully this makes it into the game at some point via a radio and what not. 10.) People speaking on direct seem to be hearable throughout a whole server in certain instances.
  19. ...and all I saw was black....with a little white text saying "You are Dead". It was really not the epic death scene I expected for myself.... I was actually mildly disappointed by the lack of... well... anything on the other side. Was wondering if this is the permanent death scene or if a death sequence or.. well... something was up coming.

I finally died a bandit death...

It sucks though because I didn't even see myself go down... was running... heard a few shots... black screen!
  21. Ever fallen on top of an expensive scope? Ever dropped a 1911 on concrete? I've done both... both things were badly damaged (my Zeiss shattered and my 1911 needed a new front site). This is VERY realistic and something that should be looked at in my opinion.

    Late Game Ideas

You're right.. and the great thing is that the person creating the game is very likely to read your idea's and if one is truly great... he might use it. The only thing is right now people are focusing on other things right now... not that I want to be a debbie downer... but any great end game idea you have would probably not see the light of day until much much much later...

    Late Game Ideas

I think we should focus on the bugs and crazy stuff going on in the game right now and flush out the end game as this one gets more polished. I realize we all want that perfect game.. and I think this game could set itself apart... but right now its still a little bit newish and needs some meat and potato's before it gets the dessert.

    Should combat logging be ban-able?

annnnnnnnd when I switched servers prior to dying the information that I died is written to the hive after I'm already in a new server. Then what? I drop dead instantly like I'm in the matrix or do I continue playing... but wait... what if I logged out of that server and realized the error of my way and logged back into the same server to accept my fate.. my friend kills my "fake" body but then loots it and I still have my old loot because I logged out and my duplicate took the death thusly duping my body.... unless the matrix thing happens and I die instantly beside my own body thus giving my attacker twice the loot! (this was exploited on the mod in just the way I'm hinting at)
  25. If you die you can't play for 24 hours... BOOM done... I expect some beans for this gem of an idea!
