I wonder how Bf4 does i... oh wait they don't... reducing FPS when you zoom is balls and I could care less about graphical changes if it impacts playability.
-
One was significantly worse in the mod when you could fire 3-4 bullets... insta log... switch spots... fire 3-4 bullets... insta log... switch spots... fire 3-4... well you get the idea. This was the original idea behind ghosting. Logging into a server in an advantageous position not knowing that there's a person there isn't ghosting... its smart play. Its like saying that I'm cheating because I logged out for the night near a barracks thinking I would loot it when I logged on. That being said, server shopping is just about as horseshit as anything... switching servers to snipe or for loot is pretty balls.

Who agrees with my idea for upcoming DayZ UPDATES.

Its called Teamspeak or some version of it.... Not that I want to rain on this parade but if you trusted 2 other bandits you weren't on a voice program with you probably won't survive very long. That being said, I think encrypted radio's that only your crew can hear is making it into the game at some point, but if one of your boys loses the radio... you could have a big issue.... not sure though. -
You have to accept it guys... its going to happen. I realize its frustrating and "game breaking" but its just the reality of standalone at this point. There's a running saying here that you shouldn't get attached to your gear... and its true for many reasons. Look at the bright side though... at least we can all run on the docks in peace and harmony safe from flying in the air only to fall and die and zomb...

I've always defined "ghosting" as logging out of a server... switching servers and moving... then logging onto the original server in a better position. This is a really pansy annoying thing to do. Logging into a server in a spot isn't what I call ghosting... switching servers on top of a good sniper spot isn't ghosting.

I survived on the mod once for nearly a month. Racked up around 50+ player kills. I was running through Cherno and got shot up by a player with an AK-47 while I was trying to snag some blood bags. I managed to limp my way out of there and get back to base for my buddy to save me... and he accidentally shot me in the head while trying to blood bag me. I was alive for a month in a game surrounded by hackers and docks of doom.... I learned that day to not get attached to anything DayZ.

It'd be nice if you had to take a dump in game and needed something to wipe with wouldn't it? Can you imagine killing people for toilet paper? Oh the hilarity
-
Welcome to DayZ.... don't get attached to your gear.
-
This isn't going to happen whether or not we vote it as bannable or otherwise. The game could hang you up in game for up to five seconds or something prior to allowing an exit... but that is fraught with a whole bunch of issues. Losing a kill sucks... but getting banned because your computer lost internet connection is ridiculous.

This DayZ early release is just stupid

You had your break with everest... its DayZ time now brother! -
Oh god you hit the nail on the head with the walking / running uphills. Took me half an hour just to get to polana because I spent ten minutes literally walking up a friggen hill! And... I have noticed the random zombie noises... kinda annoying.
-
Tried that... then he goes into boxer stance and points it somewhere off to my right.
-
Oh... I forgot a huge pet peeve... aiming the goddamned flashlight is ridiculous. Is there a reason my guy doesn't point it at anything in front of him?

Charging people money to help you "make" a game....

Alright... I said I wouldn't post again but after reading through every single response... I'm in. If this is viewed as a pre-order type of purchase and is being used to make final content I will do my best to find bugs and area's for improvement. The vagueness of the $60 purchase versus the $30 purchase should be clarified..... from my understanding at this point the $30 purchase does not go toward the final game. REGARDLESS... I spent far more than that on a DayZ Mod server in its first month than $30 dollars and given that my initial post seems petty. So... rather than come on the boards and complain I shall see every single person on here hopefully on a server at some point. We'll sort out of differences there... -
Fellow Enthusiasts I have been here almost from the very beginning. I bridged over and began playing DayZ roughly two years ago -- in short I've been a long time player and server administrator. I recently closed my last hosting (US 520) thanks you to an unadultereated frustration with my hosting company... but also because DayZ now seems to lack something. There has been little to no innovation in the game in the last two years and changes have been very ponderous. The current game is based on finding weapons, food & water, medical supplies and vehicles.... the original game was based on finding weapons, food and water, medical supplies and vehicles. Everything you put in a tent or left in a hidden spot could be found while you were offline.... and the same is true today. Nothing has changed in over two years with regards to the base gameplay... there is no base building, there are no key sets for a vehicle... there's no safety for your hard work... which brings me to the point at hand... Standalone This has taken so long that the hype brought about from DayZ as an alpha has long past from people's memory. DayZ was innovative two years ago... now vanilla DayZ is old news and sadly so are the things that Standalone has promised to bring to the field. I have searched every barn and every city at least 10 times... how is DayZ Standalone going to be different from original DayZ and set itself apart? the truth is... its not going to. It is going to be the same thing I've done for almost two years. The innovativeness this game had as an MMO FPS with RPG elements has burned out after all these years and there are games based on DayZ now (WarZ, Infestation....) that are offering something similar to what standalone is offering. This game has just taken too long... For the new people coming to the game that have discovered it recently you're the lucky ones who avoided the catastrophe of two years ago. The game is hopefully still exciting and new and when standalone comes out it will be glorious. For us old guard... its just been one hell of a ride of hopes dashed and game breaking bugs that we ignored in the hopes of a better finished product that will come out over a year too late. - Brick

I think he thinks he's purchased the final game with his purchase of Alpha not realizing he has just purchased the right to play the pre-release and still has to buy the game. -

This is my last post on this topic because I don't see this being productive. What reason could you POSSIBLY have for waiting two years to release a game and then releasing a paid for alpha in this manner? HONESTLY? "The game will come out when its ready... not before"... are you telling me this game is ready? Because according to Steam DayZ is Here! And as for people saying all companies are charging for Alpha and pre-release.. OHHHH really? Pixel Piracy and a game supported by Bohemia are the same thing right? Give your head a shake. -
Ok i get it.. its alpha.. but this is worse than the mod.
jBrick replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
Its his and the development teams own fault for charging the full value of this game on what amounts to helping create it. I feel far more of a different emotion than pity. -

I did play it over a year and a half ago and I can tell you emphatically that you are wrong. The Mod was far more polished than the current rendition of Standalone a year and a half ago. -
DayZ Standalone... over a year too late.
jBrick replied to jBrick's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There are some issues (zombie rarity, food / water issues) that greatly diminish the game.. but I think they are inline with what this is intended to be. HOWEVER, if you go to your steam client and look at the description of DayZ it indicates that DayZ is Now Live! The warnings about what this is should be bigger than they are... there is no "This is an Alpha Test and you're helping us build the game" forum post from Dean Hall on steam... and I'd be rather pissed off if I didn't know what I was getting into and ended up with this. -

jBrick replied to jBrick's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So, I'm reading through the board posts and literally every second post is a negative attack on standalone. "Empty Wasteland" "Dean Lost his Way" etc. etc. etc. This game is an early release for TESTING purposes it isn't as polished as the mod but I expect over time it may be... and hopefully its a short period of time because right now it is basically unplayable. But that being said, it is for TESTING! Not the full release... TESTING! God... I'm actually a little shocked by the alpha release.... it feels almost as though they waited all this time and then rushed to meet a Christmas deadline. There are glaring issues that were unaddressed, things that you know are currently in the game and yet it was still pushed through.... -

I'm playing DayZ Standalone for the first time... I logged off. That being said, the graphics look fine but it is a very rough and unenjoyable gaming experience at this point. I expect prior to the game actually releasing it will improve because as of right now its unplayable. I've also gone through this topic and read some of the very pithy replies... it would seem I'm entertaining children rather than speaking amongst adults. Regardless, after your mom and dad go and purchase DayZ for you feel free to log in and see what two years of anticipation feel like. I was unsurprised. -

DayZ Standalone... over a year too late.
jBrick replied to jBrick's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I would have agreed with you a year ago. The thought that somebody could squirrel away an AS50 or DMR and be back in the fight without significant work was distasteful. Then I started running my own server and saw the little fuckers hacking and cheating their way through the game. Teleporting to tents and vehicles and ruining people through unscrupulous actions. You can't stop cheating or hacking in a game... that's reality. Being able to protect your gear while offline is a way to combat it. -

...And this is why the game needed significant additions or changes in order to keep the old guard still interested. I loved DayZ for the first year I played it... so much so that I bought a server and ran with a group of people. After a significant amount of time already spent in Chernarus the long time players need change to stay interested.
