Many people seem to not actually know what "Alpha" means...
jBrick replied to Raoul9753's topic in General Discussion
I am actually in complete disagreement with the thread starter. This is not an "Alpha" this is an open beta. The actual alpha was the mod... and they actually made people pay for this game prior to including all of the items that were in the actual alpha. This is nothing more than the developer cashing in on the name at an opportune time. -
US6299 just came up and is 100% Vanilla. No BS no added buildings... straight DayZ

As the title suggests I was wondering when tents would be implemented.

Genuine hacks or people looking for attention?
jBrick replied to synystr's topic in General Discussion
I had a run in today with a hacker. I couldn't believe that they were out already so I typed in DayZ Hacks on google and was very surprised to see about 5 or 6 paid for hacks already on the market. The reality is that no matter what you do or where you play people are going to cheat. I just hope that those who are already aimbotting and wall-hacking get banned from all of their steam games and not just DayZ. -
Server Hopping/Combat logging-How it ruins the Dayz experience
jBrick replied to Hero of Suburbia's topic in General Discussion
Well... that is the main issue with a game that has linked servers. This isn't what I would call "Server Hopping" though its what I call "Ghosting" and on my DayZ Mod server it was a bannable offense. Ghosting is cheating. Unfortunately with how loot is dispersed right now server hopping is going to be a way of life until its changed. I literally cannot find anything on a server sometimes and it practically forces me to switch to a server that's been restarted recently. That's just reality of loot spawn @ server startup. That being said though... maybe only allowing people to log out in a forest or area away from a city / town would be beneficial at the moment. -
This is easily remedied using a bipod attachment and being prone. Crazy as this sounds... I was pissed off too because I couldn't hit anything beyond 400 reasonably... with a bipod I took some one out at roughly 700 meters in one shot.
-
This shot is 350 - 400 meters... good shot with the scope you have... but far below the distances I want to hit people at.
-
Actually... that seems to be the solution to my issue. Having a Bipod on the rifle GREATLY increases its effectiveness beyond 300 meters.... its a tack driver and hits very close to exactly what a real one is capable of hitting. So... THE SOLUTION to my issue is to have a bipod deployed and be prone. Hitting the ground at the barrel of the gun.... that's another issue.

If they go to reality with round-ball ammunition (like that being fired from buckshot) they should be using Journee's Formula. And, if they did your ballistic equivalencies and ranges / speed may be off significantly.
-
I've been distance shooting for a pretty good chunk of my life... and its not too often when I see a game that is overstating the ineffectiveness of a distance rifle. Usually its the other way around (like the M98B in Battlefield 3).

I'm a civillian and I can shoot a handgun free standing more accurately than this guy is shooting a rifle at 500 meters. 8 Meter Spread... total garbage.
-
It is NOT windage... the bullet's are "wandering" due to weapon inaccuracy. if it was windage I'd be consistently moving to an area but it's actually all over the place...
-
Agreed... because then it is a consistent movement to a specific direction and you are able to calculate roughly the general location of the bullet. Unfortunately most games go completely bonkers and overboard in calculating the affect of windage etc. and have even included the corealis effect for sub 1,000 meter shots.. which is almost negligible for that distance.

I zero'd in on a barraks @ 500 and it was roughly a foot low... I then zero'd for 600 and it was a foot and a half high... I'm guessing it was anywhere from 540 - 560 meters away.

So does ladder clipping to get to the top of firehalls....
