    An Actually Fun Hacker Story

We logged in and IMMEDIATELY were accosted by the kid, so he didn't track us or camp out or anything. It was a random spot in the middle of the woods, not a place you would ever decide to sit and wait for someone to spawn in in front of you. We also shot him point blank twice with an AS50 and he didn't go down. If that's not a hacker I don't know what is.

    An Actually Fun Hacker Story

Jesus, the title of this post must have attracted all the fucking assholes day huh? When you log in in the middle of a forest hidden under a tree and are immediately being talked to over voip by a 12 year old, your gut reaction should be 'hacker'. When he takes two AS50 rounds to the chest and doesn't flinch and responds with "That wasn't very nice" and gunshots, you have a right to fucking alt-f4. Do you honestly think it's not okay to disconnect to avoid being killed by a hacker? I'm not going to let some dipshit little kid with his mommy's credit card ruin my 20-something day old character. Congratulations on being the pathetic soul who has to point out something negative in everything other people do just to try to make your epeen look a few inches bigger. YOU are a credit to the fucking DayZ community kid.

Just realized this is kind of ironic because I know you give kids on the shore guns. You totally could have been arming them with empty guns and dooming them to get sniped by us.

    An Actually Fun Hacker Story

We were only shooting kids who had guns. Technically, we had no way of knowing if they were new spawns or kids who had aks and had been camping unarmed kids in Cherno for days. If you have a gun, you're fair game because if you got the chance you'd just shoot me and take my things anyway.

Mad that he doesn't have a fun story about anything, because he has a sad pathetic life with no friends.

Shortly after this too, we went to another server. Immediately a kid starts talking to us from a bush behind us. We figure he's a hacker, AS50-friend pumps two rounds into him to make sure. We immediately disconnected, but he clipped AS50-friend with a shot from his own AS50 just as we got out. Logged in on yet another server, me and L85-friend first to see if we can rescue AS50-friend. When he logs in he has 200 blood and is bleeding, but luckily we were sitting right on top of him and saved him. He also had, and I kid you not, an hour and a half long unconscious timer. But he pulled through. Was some House M.D. shit going on right there.

    An Actually Fun Hacker Story

Oh we fucking scared-disconnected the second he was down. We weren't sticking around for that shit. And we did kill one unarmed kid who ran right up to us. We asked if we wanted to go on adventures and he said no, then proceed to check our bags for a backup weapon that he could steal and shoot us with. He kind of had it coming.

    Dear Newbies Wandering The Coast

I was driving around today offering rides to noobs and some kid server hopped in on the hill north of Elektro (I'm certain he hopped in because I had literally just checked it for dudes before going into town). He blew the truck up with an AS50, I was inside... but I didn't die. Regained consciousness with 200 hp and bandaged and ate 30 steaks like a man. Scanned the hill and didn't see him, so I booked it up the hill I was on to some trees. I figured he would come down to loot my "corpse" but he never did. He just dced after blowing up my truck, never to be seen again. Yay! Fuck the people who play this game. Also, our stash was raided so I don't have my backup ATV either. This game really needs a safer way to store gear/vehicles, like being able to make traps and shit. And there needs to be a better limit on where you can put vehicles, me and my group have combed the entire border of the map repeatedly looking for vehicle camps and they're nowhere to be seen. We check the spawns after every restart too and got nothing. Either people are still finding ways to hide shit off the map (like hiding it off map and just logging in every 23 hours to touch it so it doesn't go away) or Brazillians have discovered how to dig tunnels and hide vehicles under ground.

The best sniper rifle in the game?

You can use your NVGs while holding it, you just lose the NVG effect when you scope in. Thus, you can use your GREEN CROSSHAIRS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SCREEN to aim very effectively to 500m or so, which I have found is coincidentally the range that the DMR starts to suck anyway. Ergo, they're about equal on a night server assuming you're playing with crosshairs on.

The best sniper rifle in the game?

It does, but the problem is that the rangefinder is much more common than the SVD itself so statistically if you're farming you will find a rangefinder before the SVD. Also the SVD mags are incredibly rare. To top that off the SVD rangefinder does take considerable skill and patience to use. Watch a youtube video of someone using it, it takes time and patience to actually "laze" their distance. I'd still get a giant boner if I found one though because dat camo. Our group has been stockpiling the ammo despite not having the gun itself for the inevitable day when we find it. It'll fuse onto my arm like Voltron and I'll take off like a rocket ship to defend the universe from things.

The best sniper rifle in the game?

By the numbers, the AS50 is better. 1. Ammo for the fifty caliber snipers is roughly the same frequency of that of the DMR when you account for the amount of ammo that you use. If you don't land a headshot, the DMR is a 3-4 shot kill meaning that every mag you find is 5-6 kills. According to DayZ database, the drop rate for DMR mags at any military zone is 3.96%, while the M107 mags are a 1%. But an M107 mag nets you TWICE as many kills per clip, again assuming that you aren't landing 100% headshots. And even for those of you thinking you're the best sniper in the world, tutting "well I ALWAYS headshot every time!", no, you don't. Beyond 500 meters it's impossible to guarantee a headshot just based on the slight passive sway of being prone, which by the way is often impossible because of grass. The effect is worse when crouched. Couple this with the fact that the DMR has no manual zero and I very much doubt that even asians can guarantee headshots every single time. Now, factor in that the 5-6 figure is even assuming that you LAND every shot. In a typical case, within 300m you can easily fire off 3 rounds and land a kill before your victim can react, but much further out than that and you won't be landing every single shot because of recoil and passive sway. Either you spam the trigger and hope you get lucky (likely missing a few shots) or you wait for recoil and passive sway to calm down so you can accurately land another shot. However, in the time you're waiting your target has discovered HOLY SHIT I'M BEING SHOT AT and is now taking serpentine evasive maneuvers which also reduces your chance to land a shot. I would estimate that even a good DMR marksman only gets 3-4 kills per mag when firing beyond 500m, versus the easy 10 that even a mediocre AS50 marksman can get using a rangefinder. Thus the M107 mags net between 3 and 4 times as many kills per mag, making the (Drop Rate):(Kills Gained Per Drop) ratio about equal, slightly in the AS50s favor when you factor in NATO rounds, which I ignored in this instance because that would be too much work. Either way, on ammo "abundance" versus efficiency, they're equal. 2. This is true, but only a true advantage if you're playing on a server with crosshairs disabled. On any server with crosshairs turned on, an AS50 user can simply use the green crosshairs to easily land shots out to 500m. Because of recoil and passive sway, the DMR also drops off at around that range, so again this is a situational bonus. Personally I always play with crosshairs turned on because many of the guns in this game are extremely broken when attempting to use the iron sights (M16 M203, I'm looking at you). 3. Rate of fire means nothing when you look at the timeline of how that fight would go. AS50 - First shot, the target died. DMR - First shot within 300m, the target is probably dead. Beyond that? Depending on the marksmans skill, the target is probably still alive and kicking. Increased rate of fire (aka, pulling your trigger faster) only makes you less accurate, and given that the AS50 is ALWAYS a one shot KO I would bet cashmoney that a graph on damage done (reduced by accuracy %) over time would show the AS50 in clear favor. The increased fire rate is only helpful, again, in closer range. And still, the AS50 will always land a kill on the first shot, so the best the DMR can do is be ON PAR with the AS50. 4. Does it really matter what your "skill" as a marksman is on a game that has shady-at-best hit recognition? Sure if this was a competitive shooter, I'd say this makes a difference and is definitely good practice. But this isn't a competitive shooter, and it never will be because of crippling bugs and a shit-tacular engine. It's like saying that your skill at riding an elevator is just amazing: granted there's a slight skill cap (figuring out how to push them buttons!), but random chance plays a much larger role. I'd reckon that even if you were the worlds best Arma 2 player, ping and the inherently shit engine would fuck you out of most of your skillfully gained headshots anyway. In addition, when is it tactically a wise decision to go with the "showing off" thing to do over the "probably much more stable and guaranteed" thing to do? There is no denying that the AS50 will more consistently net you kills because hey, even if you lag or the server derps or what have you and your headshot is detected as a body shot YOUR TARGET IS STILL DEAD. Also, the AS50 has a dramatic advantage over the DMR when it comes to vehicles. One shot to the engine block of virtually any car with an AS50 loaded with NATO rounds will fireball it. Same goes for helicopters. I honestly take great comfort in the fact that if a helicopter flies overhead I'm at a great advantage over him because A) I have one of the few guns that can fight back against him and B) It's going to take him a lot longer to spot me that it is the other way around. Our group keeps a large stockpile of both because both are good weapons, but at the end of the day the AS50 is definitely more consistent. Edit: B followed by ) turned into a badass smiley with shades so I'm not even mad.

Firepower to the People: my new end game plan

Tents are easy enough to get. First off, they're dupable. I won't tell you how to do it in case that's not your cup of tea, but it's quite easy to do. Most people use it to make massive tent camps on the borders so that they can dupe other items, so someone using it for something stupid wouldn't piss me off. If you would rather legitimately farm them all, I've found Vybor is usually a pretty safe place to do it. Cherno would go faster, but it's much more dangerous. Basically, just take all the items out of a house and make a trash pile just outside the door. You have to take EVERY SINGLE ITEM out. Any loot you leave on the floor won't change until a server restart so leaving tin cans just ruins your chances. Previously loot would repopulate when you approached a building from 200m or more away, requiring you to empty a building and run out of town, then back in. I can confirm this is definitely no longer the case, as I was farming tents in Vybor and had loot popping up right under me. All residential buildings can drop tents, as well as general store locations.

Firepower to the People: my new end game plan

I've seen loot puddles disappear when hard farming the barracks (taking everything out and making a trash puddle) without a restart. Also, most restarts are on a 4 or 6 hour cycle, so I'm still right :P
  14. If NVGs were sufficiently rare (which they are) and unable to be duped it wouldn't be a problem. 99% of people playing on a night server would all have fun throwing flares and using flash lights and the one dude with super leet gear would be rewarded for farming the barracks 24/7. And I mean that, when setting up a new camp on a new server me and a friend farmed the barracks on NWAF for 12 hours straight and didn't get a single pair of NVGs. The legit drops themselves are extremely rare, but dupers ruing everything. Also the gamma/brightness ghetto night vision needs to be fixed. I know, some people legit have really dark monitors, but this also just defeats the purpose of the night. Once in a while I see a newspawn who doesn't know any better using flares in Cherno, but for the most part I never see a single light source at night because everyone is just in uber-gamma mode.

    The tent problem...

    OH GOD THE IRONY
  16. DEOVONTAY MCSLANGA

    The tent problem...

It sounds like your server might just be really shitty if some items (the older ones specifically) are being saved and the newer ones aren't. I would sitting there, saving the tent repeatedly for a few minutes and see if something changes. Otherwise I would just switch servers. It's sad, but it is extremely hard to find a reliable server for this game.
  17. DEOVONTAY MCSLANGA

    The tent problem...

The problem isn't so much the fact that your tents don't disappear when you die, it's that tents are so easily dupable. Think about it, what's the point of a tent if it disappears when you die? To hold one, maybe two alternate guns you like to use sometimes? And even then, you have to go through the pain in the ass of walking back to your tent when you want to switch from an AS50 to an L85 or whatever. If tents were sufficiently rare (which they currently are) and were no longer able to be duped things would be balanced; you get lucky and get a rare tent, congrats you have a place to stash some gear so you can go back to it when you die. And on duping items using tents, there's a very simple solution and I'm really amazed that it hasn't been implemented. Just force a "Save Tent" function every time someone accesses the gear. Problem solved.

Firepower to the People: my new end game plan

The items will despawn rather quickly if simply dropped, although it's more in the neighborhood of a few hours. If you want to really help, place tents on the shoreline near the newbie cities that no one ever wants to go to like Kamenka, Komorovo, etc. Place your items in the tent, and then save it. This will ensure that the loot stays there until some newspawn finds it. Bandits are also unlikely to loot them and steal the shitty weapons because seeing a tent on the shoreline just screams trap. They're also fairly hard to see unless you're actually on the shore, as the shore slopes down a little and hides them from view.

    The tent problem...

Our server restarted twice today and our tents were untouched... Are you sure you're saving them...? Or perhaps someone is just fucking with you. The admin could easily be stealing your things immediately after a reset and just chuckling to himself.

    Killed by a tree.

Tents, rocks, trees, doorways, and gates can all devour you if you do not make regular sacrifices to the Boar Gods.
  21. DEOVONTAY MCSLANGA

    Tent/Vechicle Storage

This is all true, although the items popping out the back of the tent when you overfill it are extremely hard to spot. More often than not they also just don't show up and are lost forever. I can confirm that overfilling a vehicle will cause the items to pop out the back, and they're actually possible to find.

US1081 - BRA 1 We kill brazillians on sight because we play league of legends enough to know how much they deserve to die.

    found a bike..

New patches sometimes eat vehicles for a week or so, then they'll find their way home. Server restarts sometimes do the same. Server restarts always reset your vehicles if you don't save them. Crooked admins have ways of finding your camps/vehicles, it's very hard to find a server where you're safe against illegitimate play. Hackers can find vehicles and tents instantly. Helicopters are rumored to have radar enabled. There is little/no proof of this, but I can't really argue it because I've never been in one. Supposedly though you can see the location of any vehicles you fly over.
  24. DEOVONTAY MCSLANGA

    Dear Newbies Wandering The Coast

He had the option to just hide in the cabin. Am I going to risk getting out and potentially getting lucky headshotted just to get a murder on a new spawn? Nope.
  25. DEOVONTAY MCSLANGA

    Dear Newbies Wandering The Coast

First, you can get in the drivers seat and not turn the car on. It'll only turn on if you press W/D. Second, even if you have no knowledge of this game you know what the drivers seat of a car is for, and what the passengers seat is for. They're quite clearly labelled. If you have no knowledge of how a car functions, then I would have to question how in fact you are operating your computer. Third, and this is more of an after thought, but if you aren't familiar with the game it's still fairly obvious that you should be REALLY careful when a guy with a giant gun is just waiting for you to do something crazy. I'd be carefully reading every line of the scroll-wheel menu to make sure I didn't piss someone off by accident.
