Okay here's the problem : Gear Hoarding

I have lost so much gear but its always fun to start with a fresh spawn and gear up, get my character healthy and interact with friendly players (with a handful of betrayal :P) The thing is, looting is THE main mechanic of the game, second to that are the survival mechanics. Also humans get attached to gear, its how we work, once we have something, even a can of beans, you feel bad if that is stripped away from you, and especially if the reason is something that feels unfair. Things like glitches, falling off roofs when you didn't do shit, breaking your legs when you step off a 2 inch high wall, or a one shot to the face from a random location. These events feel cheap and unfair and is cause of allot of complains. You are talking about creating a story? well there isn't much stuff in the form of mechanics to create that story besides, collect gear and survive. We don't have any vehicles to repair, we don't have any tents that you can store loot in, so you feel more at rest when you walk around with a character. We don't have bases that we can build, etc. There are allot of mechanics that are coming, but in its current state, I think its a fair play to go for the loot because without that, there isn't much to dayz at the moment.
  2. I'd like the idea of more dangerous wildlife, things like bears that go on a rampage when you arrive in its territory, or Wolves which hunt in packs. It would also be awesome to have animals avoid the undead, so when you are in an area an you know there are animals around and they suddenly get startled it might be the case that a roaming pack of zombies is shambling trough he forest closeby. It would also be nice if these animals hunt for each other, so wolves attack deer and you might stumble upon a pack of wolves that are eating a dear carcass, which you would be able to loot if you can kill off the wolves.
  3. So because you have bad experiences you want rocket to change the nature of the game? riiight. Listen, the point is the game to be a tool-set for players to form their own paths trough the world and survive in their own way. surviving in dayz is hard, especially in the beginning with nothing on you but the bare necessity to survive and It needs to stay that way. Its what makes this mod so special, hell, i'd like it to be even harder! Anyway I think you need to realize that for now, at this stage of the games development (pretty damn early) this mod is not for you. You need time to get ahead in this game and since you, as you said yourself have limited time to invest, you cant expect to go anywhere. It takes time (many deaths and allot of hairy situations) to learn how to be successful at this game. I think it would make this game way WAY to easy if you could simply avoid being shot. Its the nature of the beast and I think it adds to the realism of the game. people will be dicks, and people screw other people over. you cant trust noone because once you turn your back on your cherno friend, there is a high chance that he will shoot you for your beans. Dog eat dog, its a tough world and you need to adapt to survive. The best advice I can give you is to, once you spawn, go prone, crawl to the edge of the woods staying away from zombies and run into the wild. Its the safest place at this moment (until they add predatory beasts) and head for the nearest small town. crawl to buildings avoiding zombies and find stuff there. The coast is to dangerous for new players so don't stay to long!
