I think it would be cool if you could find electronic components in the world and craft simple things from them. Now, I'm not saying go down the whole resistors/capacitors etc route, as that would be far too complex, but if you could find things like circuitry, copper wire and maybe even soldering irons you could craft things like rudimentary short range radios, door locks, maybe even a fan that makes a noise to attract zombies. Now of course, not everyone knows how to make a radio from old circuitry, but if the skill books idea sticks around, you could find an electronics textbook and use it as part of the crafting recipe. So for example, you could have 3 circuits, some copper wire and a soldering iron, to craft a short range radio, using the textbook. But, if you are doing it for the first time, there could be a higher chance of failure, as you're not quite an electrical engineer just yet, so you can just take one look at the book and say "yep, all 400 pages of that have been memorized, I don't need this anymore!" (I'm sure this is a point that may have been raised before, but pah, I'm lazy, sue me.)

Electronics, skill books and crafting
homeslice1986 replied to homeslice1986's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
That sounds awesome; but I would like to see craftable radios (and other useful electronic) that are simple (ie a simple receiver and tuner), rather than just "here's your radio, in perfect working order, just needs batteries!" If you can craft, fix and find mechanical things, why not electrical? -
Electronics, skill books and crafting
homeslice1986 replied to homeslice1986's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I would argue that, while it would be awesome, having lots of different components would be a far to complex system, especially as not many people know the resistor colour codes. Sure a simple google search would yield the answers, but having to tab out of the game all the time would get annoying. Dont get me wrong, i'd love to see a system as in depth as the individual components, and having to hunt all over for a specific 400 ohm resistor to get a radio to work, but it's the kind of thing that wouldn't interest anyone who isn't an engineer, and would probably lead to more frustration for the player. I'd rather see a simple system implemented first, then make it more complex as development goes on. -
Its fine, nobody was expecting it.

Will you be able to learn as go? e.g get better/faster at doing actions the more you do them?

No DevBlog this week but here is some screens

Ill take that action, 5 beans says the 26th! And I couldn't care what it looks like, it could look as ugly as a bag of greasy spanners, its the functionality I care about. -
Make the M107 harder to use, replace the AS50 with something like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PTRS-41 so there is at least something to use against vehicles. And make it as rare as rocking horse sh*t too.

New patch coming soon to dayz
homeslice1986 replied to leviski's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Sounds good :3. Also, with the custom loot table, it could work well with the crafting system, say, finding 2 broken arrows outside and crafting them into 1 "good" arrow. -
My crazy crazy first day in dayZ and experience with a hacker

Congrats kid, welcome to the horde. Also, I have socks older than you.. -
Night time is where I've had some of my best experiences on DayZ, without NVGs I should add. Learn to embrace the darkness, and how to use flares and chemlights correctly.

New patch coming soon to dayz

I guess its safe to assume the buildings will spawn from the same loot tables as their enter-able types? -
Hero-Bandit system gone in SA?
homeslice1986 replied to Hosty's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I dunno, last time I checked (which was a while ago) the heartbeat thing did work quite well, the closer you got, the louder it was, but you could still hear it from a good distance away. -
Hero-Bandit system gone in SA?
homeslice1986 replied to Hosty's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I doubt this will change many peoples behavior in the game, bandits will be bandits at the end of the day, and by the time you're close enough to see the claret chances are they've already shot you in the face. The problem with the humanity system is that its very hard to balance, if you give the game away about a persons nature too far away, it renders the system pointless, as people will happily shoot anyone who seems a bit dodgy. Too close, and see my above point. Theres no easy way to deal with this.. Good luck Rocket, old boy. -
As long as there's no MLP fanfics involved...

So in theory, someone could play the game, write about their adventures in the game, and then have it uploaded into the game itself for others to read while playing the game? We have to go deeper..

Well, ill be on the lookout for some Jules Verne on my travels! I assume that the only books allowed are the ones that the copyright has expired on?

Im guessing you werent around when Steam was in its infancy.. trust me, that was one buggy PoS. I gotta admit, I didnt think much of Valve and Steam back then either, but Its also why its so good now, they've had over a decade to work on it. (Which is why most other DD platforms cant come close to it, but thats another topic all together.) Back on topic.. exciting times! Rocket survived Everest(1 in 10 people die in the attempt, so if you ever want to do it, bring 8 friends and someone you dont like :P), E3 is around the corner, SA soon after! Its gonna be a good summer chaps.

Some feature ideas requesting feedback
homeslice1986 replied to Ander (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Its a fine idea, however I think it needs to serve more than just the one purpose. The ability for long range coms with handheld radios, or perhaps having a radio back-pack (that replaces your normal backpack, someone mentioned it before) that can use the signal from the stationary tower to have a portable version, with reduced range. Also giving the radio towers the ability to track active radios in their range. -
DayZ Maintenance ~ Should be functional again

It gave me some time to go outside into the real world, at least. The ssssun, it burnssss ussss.. -
How the player-built base worked out.
homeslice1986 replied to bahhh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Sounds like a great idea, and good fun too. A seaborne assualt by a large group on a foggy day or night could make for an interesting situation. -
But I used wood to make the fire place' date=' and I have plenty of wood left to use. You are saying that the normal way the fire should take longer then 1~2 seconds ? [/quote'] Yep, should last about 10 minutes after you first light it. Then it'll go out. After that, it'll only last a few seconds.

You should put the temperature readout in Kelvin, just to mess with people :P Im guessing there'll be more fixes to be listed; the context menu bug hopefully makes the cut.

Crossbow Bolt "Quivers"
homeslice1986 replied to FrankDaTank1218 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This would certainly make this a more viale weapon; at the moment its pretty useless, considering the amount of space the bolts take.
