I promise I'll think about it.... then I'll bury your precious Mary Ann along with your body. That is the respectful thing to do, is it not?

Yeah, 'cause quotes around a single word can't be used to change context or make it intentionally ambiguous. /sarcasm Don't be dumb, Sparky. If you log in and find your weapon gone you would say: 'My DMR disappeared!?! OMG! This is like the worse DayZ moment ever! All my work on my ranging curves is WASTED! I'm gonna go to the forums and make a whiny post about how I'm quitting DayZ because of it.' You would have no idea if it was a bug or if it was removed on purpose. I found it condescending that you assumed I didn't know how items can get destroyed through normal gameplay. I suppose that I can be rude but only to people that come off sounding like know-it-all douchebags. Besides, this is the mod. Hacking will always be present and, by extension, L85s will be spawned in for quite some time because someone could claim it's been in a tent for months. Just look at how prevalent the AS50 TWS became. I doubt that normal gameplay will be enough to substantially decrease the inventories relative to active players in a reasonable amount of time.

Duh... Everyone with a reasonable knowledge of this mod's mechanics could tell you that. Hence why I find it odd that Ander would spend the time to say that. And if that was his true meaning, why say it in such a cryptic way??? Maybe I'm chasing a ghost - who knows? Only Ander...

Beans for Bricks. Just zombies hitting on the run would change the predominant looting tactics drastically. Hey OP, WarZ has pay to win... :P No beans for you! :emptycan: I'd give you a granola bar but then I'd have to shoot you for it from across the map with my railgun "sniper rifle."
-
Is it just me or did he basically say that they're gonna delete existing L85s at some point in the future?

Edit 2: Nice job with the necro Orgunas. Ya got me... From the Server Hosting Rules posted on another section of this forum: "You are permitted to kick for illegitimate weapons/items not intended to be in the game, however please remember, many players do not and should not be expected to know every item that is legitimate and as such we would prefer you do not ban for this." Notice that they do not explicitly forbid banning for illegitimate weapons. This applies only to public hive servers. If this was a private hive, ask the admins or check any website listed in the join messages. I've seen private servers ban for picking up weapons that were legitimate but very likely spawned in (tent full of high Mk48s and AS50s in the middle of Electro the day after a hive reset). Edit: This particular ban ended up getting reversed but it took a bit of talking. As always, use questionable stuff at your own risk.

AKM for sure. Went head to head @ 2m with a guy that was using an MP5 in the top of a fire station. He was on the trigger much quicker than I was but I still won. IMO the sights and any fire rate advantage that the Kobra might have don't make up for the damage that the AKM will put out.

Dayz koS would be rife irl if there was an apocalypse
ZTrainz replied to jaytmuk (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I used 99% instead of 100% to give all the know-it-alls a place to (erroneously) put themselves and hopefully not spout pointless rage. Damned if I do, damned if I don't I guess. And I'm NOT gonna be alone... Bubba and me are bros, yo. I even dated his sister for a minute after high school. He's not the type to sit in front of computer so I'll tell ya, she gave me quite the education back in the day! ;) Her name was Sue-Ann but everyone called her 'SOOOoooie' for the reason y'all are thinkin. Bigger girls definitely try harder! -

ZTrainz replied to jaytmuk (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Bubba and his 50 cousins are gonna turn y'all into fertilizer for his tomatoes as you drift out of the suburbs. I'll be okay 'cause I installed and maintain Bubba's wind turbines but the rest of you sissies are fucked. Gonna have me some delicious tomatoes the year after the apocalypse hits! On a more serious note... often seeing your comrades get hit is worse than killing. None of the guys I know talk about the insurgents they killed. They talk about the buddy who got torn in half or the little girl that got caught by a ricochet. Not to say the killing can't come back to haunt years later, but there are other events that can cause more immediate impact. 99% of you guys don't have a clue what you're gettin all high and mighty about - on both sides of the argument. -
If the bandit skins are still in the standalone I'm going to be pissed.
ZTrainz replied to electroban's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Did you even read the threads that oppose your view? The only way to avoid some version of deathmatch is to remove the ability to kill players. No one wants that for DayZ so we'll just assume pking will always be present. As long as pking is possible there will be some version of deathmatch. So the real question becomes, what type of deathmatch do we want for DayZ? No forced visual identifiers gives us free-for-all deathmatch. Skins give us team deathmatch. With the skins, you still have the vast majority of the population still being unknowns. You've said it yourself, survivors might kill you when they see you or they might not. It's that uncertainty that we want in every encounter. Knowing that 99% of your encounters will end in a firefight is bad. Just as bad is knowing that 99% of heroes that you meet won't shoot you unprovoked. Seriously, if you can come up with a system that regulates pking effectively enough to take the game away from one these deathmatch modes without breaking immersion (forced skins/tags/etc.) someone will pay you a lot of money for it. Other games have tried to find this before but have ultimately resorted to skins or failed to sustain the balance. Until someone figures out the magic formula, you're gonna have to accept forced skins because the majority of us don't want FFA DM (which is basically what everyone means when they tell someone to go back to CoD). Anyway, if this doesn't clarify things for you someone else will have to break it down for ya. I'm off to kill some bambis (no, not the DayZ kind). -
Why the skin system is fine...for now

ZTrainz replied to electroban's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Fixed that for ya... Honestly and all BS aside, when I read your post my first thought was "This guy wants WarZ." Incidentally, the first two weeks of WarZ alpha were perfect example of what happens to a "sandbox" game without consequences. Kinda, yeah. Now you tell me how terrible/noobish/carebearish we all are for wanting that. Then I say that you're a complete idiot for not seeing how this can enrich the gameplay. To which you reply, "But, but I want moar HATS!!! And cool masks, and bullet proof vests and awesome skull skins for my AS50. I'll even pay Rocket extra for them." Come on Dreygar, lets keep this spiral going straight to The Graveyard. -
This is incorrect. Given the same angle from the horizontal, aim point correction is essentially equal for uphill and downhill shots. The velocity effects that you refer to occur but are offset by the opposing effect on the drag forces as the bullet travels through air of different density.

Welcome to western society. The values have been carried over by the players and there's nothing you can do about it - except get your entertainment elsewhere. A vigilante skin is a good idea though. LOL... you just said "Give us moar HATS!!!" You just don't get it. I don't think you ever will. -

There is a general perception that the periods where bandit skins were active had less KoS behavior. There are no publicly available numbers to prove one way or the other so this perception is the best we've got. Anonymity and lack of consequence breeds antisocial behavior. Spend 10 minutes on the internet and this will become self-evident. Without obvious visual indicators of 'good' or 'evil' players, the safest course of action for an individual rapidly devolves to KoS. We've seen it and not just in this game. Sandboxes without consequence just don't end with a fun environment. The problem is that without the visual indicators, people WON'T do what the want. They'll KoS because they feel like they have to and every encounter becomes a foregone conclusion. I support bandit skins because I see it as a decent way to preserve the uncertainty and tension of player interactions. See player, shoot player is old and tired. You could theoretically move player behavior away from KoS by imposing severe gameplay penalties for rampant killing but that would actually put the bandit playstyle at a measurable and concrete disadvantage. While I do want something more that just KoS, I don't support such penalties for a particular playstyle. If you have any ideas for moderating player behavior that don't involve visual indicators, please present them. -

ZTrainz replied to electroban's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Why shouldn't your actions have consequence? Who are you to make that call? Like I said, there are plenty of other shooters out there that have no consequences for killing at all. DayZ is evidently trying to be something different. Immersion breaking? I agree with that. It certainly isn't a perfect system but that doesn't justify it's complete removal. It's only a punishment because a large segment of the community has deemed it so. If the bandit skin triggered from cow kills instead of player kills it probably wouldn't be KoS. Any guesses on whether it would become a KoS skin for any servers located in India??? Your posts are all I have to judge you by. Now that I know you're not a bandit I judge you to be short-sighted,close-minded and wrong. -

Anytime you begin with the phrase "In a real life zombie apocalypse," you invalidate everything that follows. I'm getting really sick of people trying to support their opinions about a video game that purports to simulate a completely fictional event with "But IRL..." The games isn't imposing ANY morality system on you. The bandit skin is just that... a skin - nothing more, nothing less. It's the players that assign a meaning to it. If societal values were reversed bandits would be revered instead of reviled. As it stands, the players are collectively telling you that your past behavior is unacceptable by shooting you (and all the other bandits) on sight. Judging from your posts here, what you want is to shoot anyone you want without community reprisal. I'm sorry but that just doesn't fit with DayZ. It does, however, fit with a ton of other shooters out there. Maybe you'd be happier playing one of them. -
WarZ is what you get when you take the concept of DayZ and ask your marketing department how to turn that concept into a game. On the other hand, the DayZ SA is being driven by a guy that seems to want to make a good game, period. I think this will result in a great game but no one really knows when that will occur. No numbers have been given but the SA is supposed to be much cheaper than Arma 2 when it releases. I suspect that the SA, when it first comes out, will be more similar to the mod than it is different. DayZ the mod was created in such a way that it could never withstand it's own end state while also being available to everyone that wanted it. First and foremost the SA has to achieve everything that the mod has but with an architecture that will withstand growth and public access. Can this be done in a few months? We'll see, but since they're essentially doing the WarZ thing and modifying an existing product, I think the SA will be at least as good as the mod upon release. Keep in mind, it's been stated that they expect about a year's worth of additional development after the initial SA release. As for WarZ being in development for 2 years, I think that is bullshit. Don't use the current state of WarZ as a yardstick for what kind of game can be produced in 2 years. NoCheats, Dankine's comment "no additional gameplay content? like bases for example?" was not about WarZ. He was responding to the OP's comment about no additional content but now you're both lost in the sauce.

I play on a private hive that uses these as stand-ins for chopper crashes. Try to ask an admin of that server. If you can't find one, you probably won't get caught and/or the server isn't run well enough to put much time into.

I'm Back! But where's everyone else...
ZTrainz replied to Tomas889's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
As far as I know, there is no way to distinguish unless they saw logs of the creation or you looting from a hacker box. Either there's more to this story or you got screwed and bought the BS excuse. -
Bandit? Or just getting my stuff back
ZTrainz replied to DevilDog (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Only one DayZ player ever killed someone just to steal his gear... the rest of us are just trying to get our shit back. ;) -
I was bothered by it for a few seconds. Never said I wasn't (evidently you have the same reading comprehension problem as your husband - PLEASE don't procreate have a child, I beg you). Then I realized how obtuse your husband is and I got over it. Are you banned from that server? Yes? Then I rest my case. I have no idea about any of them except you. I'm not the admin of that server. Maybe a few of those people were banned by accident. If it was really that big of an issue, don't you think there would be more than a dozen or so people complaining in the two months that server has been up? Nope, you can't go back there. But even if you could, how would you prove they banned you for thievery? It's pretty obvious that you were banned for the Alt-F4 that you admit to. Pretty stupid thing to do in front of the clan that likely runs the server. They don't allow illegitimate weapons. Says so in the server join messages. I know this because I've regularly played on that server for weeks. It's actually one of the more hacker free public servers. By the way, I think that's rather arrogant to suggest your whining had any effect on the behavior of that(those) admin(s). Such a situation could also indicate a severe level of hacking, illegitimate weapons and exploiting in the community. Then you've got all the players that won't jump on a clan server 'cause they don't have the stones for it. I've read 'em and they're the one of the reasons hacking continues to be a huge problem. Why do you think private hives have become so popular? Because those rules tie the admins' hands. But back to your situation... Rocket has identified combat logging as an exploit. Per the rules "You are permitted to kick or ban for cheating/hacking/exploiting that is affecting players in a server-disruptive way, providing you have solid evidence." The "server-disruptive" part is open to interpretation but I'd say that the admin has a case here, given how pervasive this practice is. There probably was log evidence of it but since you openly admitted it, I see little need for that. Exploiting is bannable. They prefer that you don't ban for carrying hacked weapons but stop short of actually prohibiting it. Have you read the hosting rules??? Don't cry because ONE admin had the balls to call out your exploitative gameplay even though it may have put his/her server at risk. I applaud this type of banning by admins and I'm sure there are many, many others on this forum who would agree. LOL, this coming from an admitted combat logger! Sorry about those braincells, I know you don't have that many to spare.

Come on honey, do you really think I'm that bothered by it? The only reason I even labeled it was because someone else falsely accused me of slinging mud first. I didn't but I did do it a little better. I'll bet that's not the only thing I do better than your husband. ;) I did read it and all the related threads. They're all long on accusation and short on proof. You posted your version of the story and a screenshot of the ban notice. It should have occurred to you that you were banned solely for combat Alt-F4. The fact that you were looting their tents is probably irrelevant. Been there, done that, stole the ghille suit to prove it and didn't get banned. Although I didn't Alt-F4 and I didn't try to log on with an AS50 TWS, so that's probably why I didn't get banned. What does the clan tag have to do with anything? There's tons of servers out there that are home to clans. So one of their members witnessed your alt-f4 and reported it. I don't see why that's any different from a random player reporting the same thing and the admin deciding to take action. Sure, the admins could be on a power trip but I think it's much more likely that hackers and exploiters are getting pissed off that an admin actually took a stand and banned them for not playing the game how it was intended. Evidently it is on this server. Boohoo back.
