Would you Abort if in Danger of death?

I've never done it. I don't get attached to gear, so it doesn't matter much to me to die. It makes for bold play since I am not afraid to lose anything.

Do You Play DayZ in the Nude?

In a box, with a fox.

    Forum Webserver performance

Very slow loading times in both my locations, akin to the speed of a chilled turtle.
  5. DayZ Commander now has the files for download. After using their download, I was able to get on v5 servers.
  6. I read it. :P I'll take a look at that. Fortunately, I have two computers and left the other unpatched.
  7. As an update to my eternal load message problem, I have tried v4 and v5 servers. It makes no difference, I cannot get into the game no matter which patch the server is running.
  8. I replaced all the files in the DayZ folder with the new ones from the torrent. I can get past the server screen that lists the players, but get a loading message after that. Loading.... but I never get into the game. I've tried several servers.
  9. How is the update handled for those of us using DayZ Commander?

    PvP vs PvE

To expand on my earlier post, I've always seen conflict between PvPers and those who don't PvP. Invariably, it boils down to each group feeling that their needs are not being met because resources are being spent on the other group. The best PvP games are "pure" PvP. In my opinion, of course. As an example, if anyone played SWTOR (what a bore), there was always a huge catfight going on between the two groups. Even the PvPers were divided between the Wow-gear-progression group and the run-what-you-brung group of people who hate gear progression.

    PvP vs PvE

In my experience, if there is a PvE option, then the two camps will fight about every change to the game. PvE folks want better gear and a greater variety of clothing. True PvP folks don't give a crap about gear progression. Then there's the group who grew up on WoW.... they want PvP in which they can dress up in costumes and wield mega-weapons and totally dominate the game because they can play all day, every day. :P

    Having trouble finding livestock

I've wondered if there are specific areas with more animals. Last night I set out on a hunting expedition and focused primarily on open areas with fence lines. I didn't see a single cow, but did bag some bunnies.

    DayZ Stories

I'll fess up to being new and dumb at times. My 4th session in the game occurred last night and I hooked up with a group through a buddy. When they took me to one of their camps, I marked it on my map as "camp". Now.... how was I supposed to know that the map is public? :P Fortunately, they caught it very quickly and laughed it off. Lesser men would have killed me and buried the body.
  16. I started playing DayZ last week while my two sons were out of town. I told them about the game when they got back and found out that they were already playing themselves. It seems I have two new buddies now. Since they share a computer, I can only team with one son at a time. Here's the dilemma: one of my boys is a good player. The other, not so much. His idea of a good time is running into a town in the middle of the road while waving an axe. He rarely has anything of value and loses good items quickly due to his play style. He likes playing his way and doesn't want to play my "boring" way. My style of play is much more covert. Since starting a few days ago, I've accumulated a ghillie suit, AK-74, map, watch, binocs, compass, hatchet, matches, morphine, canteen, revolver, etc. etc. I have decent setup, and I've no desire to lose it all while following an axe-waving teenager around Cherno. Although.... I know I'll lose it all eventually. My strategy is to head inland and hit smaller towns when I play with him. Does anyone else play with their kids, and how do you deal with this? I've played other games with him, but none of them were PvP games, and none with perma-death. I really wish I could have a second, disposable character. Then I'd grab an axe and go to town with him. :D

How do i open doors (webshot)

If the door can be opened, you'll be presented with two green triangles on the screen, one pointing up, the other down. Scroll and choose the option and you're in.

    Your Welcome

Grammar Nazis make me loose my mind. :D
  19. Beans to you. I'm setting up a second computer for them soon. Perhaps I should team with both and we can use our Axeman as bait. Great idea!

    My Endgame

Find a house with a swimming pool. Loot a Mercedes. Build a harem.
  23. I like to study up on things before jumping in and did a lot of reading on this site before installing the game last night. Thanks to the helpful threads here and in the troubleshooting area, the install went flawlessly. After spawning on the beach, I moved north while crouch-walking and was shot at by a player while crossing the railroad tracks. In my hasty escape, I attracted a zombie who followed me into the woods. Running up a hill and the breaking their line of sight DOES work - another helpful hint from this site. After finding a remote spot to hole up lying prone, a buddy was able to find me in the dark and I obtained a Winchester and some ammo. Looting my first barn resulted in a zombie attack when we were forced to kill one who wandered by as we were leaving. Shot a few, headed into the woods and lost the rest. Whew. Gave my buddy a blood transfusion. Thankfully, I'd read up on how the inventory system works. Weird, but serviceable after a bit of practice in a safe spot. We even managed to kill a sheep and obtain cooked meat. In the looting, I was also able to pick up some painkillers and morphine. I feel wealthy with a rifle, pistol, meds, and food. :D Now, gotta find a map. Thanks for all the helpful tips!
