    Concerning "Hating Bandits"

Regardless of how you feel, OP, every single one of those types of people are a part of the game. They are playing, in a sense, the way it was designed. Even the ones shooting new spawns on sight. Remember when Rocket said his goal was to make it so no part of this game ever feels safe? It's those people who are making that possible. People have certain expectations when they sit down and experience something. Sometimes, those expectations are to have a harmless time wandering around a wasteland, making friends and surviving together. That's great and all, but if you set unrealistic expectations, knowing fully well just what the mechanics are and what they allow, then you have nobody to blame but yourself for a frustrating or ruined experience. The bottom line is, if new spawns weren't intended to be targets, there would be something implemented to hold their hands and keep them safe. This isn't the truth. In this game, it's about principle, morality, and ultimately the psychology of how far a person will go. And it's working perfectly. Whether you like it or not, agree with it or not, every single aspect of this experience you mentioned is intended to function the way it is. People might think it's stupid to shoot on sight, but without those people we wouldn't have the strong emotional responses we do to this game, which is what it is all about. It's all a necessary evil, and for those who can't handle it, there are plenty of other games that will hold your hand and keep you safe. And there is nothing you could say, regardless, that would change the minds of how a person plays. Disclaimer: Yes, I'm a bandit. Sometimes I'll help somebody that shows me a moment of kindness, or that needs it, but ultimately I kill to survive, to get gear, and most importantly to not be bored. Running around fixing vehicles and shooting poorly coded zombies can only entertain me for so long. The human element, the thrill of the hunt, and the knowledge that this life, too, shall end is what keeps me on the edge of my seat. While you wouldn't find me in Elektro shooting bambies, you certainly won't see me trying to remove them from the game. Besides, they're usually a free kill and maybe even a free can of beans.

    Awesome Loot

I spawned fresh on a super busy server on the west side of elektro, started to run west rather than the city, and got promptly sniped by an as50. respawned on the east side, decided to run through the shore and go west to cherno again, and happened upon a ghillie sniper not too far east from where i had died with an as50, m14 aim, gps, nvgs, rangefinders, coyote pack, tons of mags and meat. guessing my assailant was taken out shortly after I bit the dust. well worth the death, i'd say.

    Standoff

Now I know that Lingor related threads generally belong in off topic, but in this instance, Lingor is just the backdrop. The heart and soul of DayZ is what this is really about. So that being said, a buddy and I were driving along the northern most island, and we came across a military barracks area east of the prison. We noticed a bunch of zombies down there (we were a good 400m away, so the spawns were clearly not ours), so we hopped out with our newly acquired M107 and DMR in hand. A quick check with the rangefinder verified our initial estimate, and we both took up position and zeroed in. We sat there for probably 5-10 minutes, occasionally hearing shots pop off as zombies ran into one of the buildings. Perfect, we thought, now we know exactly which door to cover. Finally, two people crouch walk out the door, and a moment of poor impulse sees me pop off a shot. I miss. Great, now they know we're here. They both run into the building next to them, zombies hot on their tail. So it's obvious they are being watched. Having only heard one gun go off, we figure this is a perfect opportunity. I change positions so I can better cover the building they're in, while my buddy starts making his way down there with his M14. I watch him slowly walk around the area, trying to find another entrance, as the one I'm facing is not only covered in zombies, but also doesn't give him the best cover to approach the building without the two guys having a great line of sight on him. This process probably takes about 20 minutes, however the only other entrance is crawling with more zombies than the front. So he makes his way back to the front, manages to slip by the zeds, and gets behind a wall next to the building. He tells me he can hear them pacing back and forth, and at one point hears them drink. Sounds like they're getting antsy. It'll be any minute now, I think, gotta make these shots count. Sure enough, after dispatching a few more zombies, they come out at top speed. They start hauling ass towards the front entrance, which happens to have them coming in my direction. I pop one shot off, but he zigs instead of zags, and I miss. This gets one of them to run straight towards my friend. Unfortunately, he was in third person (he wasn't expecting them out so soon, I suppose), so the shots he rang off completely missed and he gets lit up. The other guy continues running out of the walled off area towards the trees, and another shot puts him down instantly. His still breathing friend freaks out, and heads straight back into the building he had previously occupied. Bandits-1 Survivors-1 So here we are, a familiar scenario. I maintain my position, my friend respawns, and my nemesis gets comfortable. About 20 minutes pass and he makes another run for it at full sprint. I miss another shot, and he gets in another building. I sit there, determined to give this guy an early retirement from the zombie apocalypse. Many, many minutes go by, and we talk in side chat a bit. At one point, he asks me if I have any mold growing on my shoulder yet. I ask him how he's adjusting to the neighborhood. Apparently the neighbors aren't too friendly, but at least they're kinda quiet. After about 40 minutes, I notice some zombies despawn from a tree stand directly north of the complex, and I change positions, realizing he's probably no longer in the building. Sure enough, to the left of me, a single zombie appears to have gotten tangled in a bush about 300m away. Aha, so he's in the little tree infested area. Probably hiding in a bush. I scan and scan, but to no avail. Luckily, my friend has managed to travel the 7800 meters back to the area. And, as luck would have it, is coming up right behind the little miniature forest. So I start talking to my neighborhood-friendly-tree-hugger, complimenting him on his undying level of patience and determination as my friend scans the forest, moving ever-so-silently. I am asked if I've moved since my first shot, and I tell him of course I have. At this point, I've been in the rain for quite some time, so my vision is getting shaky and I can feel a cold coming on. Not cool, I think, I gotta get out of this rain. I head back to my UAZ, because I know that if this guy moves, his position is no longer secure, and my friend has the perfect shot. As I get in my vehicle, he spots the guy, and starts rolling up right behind him. Then I hear it. The unmistakable crack of gunshots. All it takes is 3, and I see the words I've been waiting to hear for over an hour: "Checker was killed". Relief, at last. All in all, this had to have lasted an hour and a half at least. Checker mentioned at one point, "I don't think there is a single other game in existence that could create a scenario like this". And I have to agree with him. You'd think sitting in a few spots in such a close vicinity would be boring as hell, but no, not in this instance. Cheers to both of our victims, not only for being real men and sticking it out until the bitter end, but also for being a part of one of the most intense and amusing standoffs in my DayZ career. TL;DR - guns don't kill people, bullets do

    learned the hard way

You'll occasionally find someone who will surprise you, but yeah, ultimately it's best not to trust anyone.

Nice bandit killing Bad bandit encounter

lol, some dirty people in this thread. i'm a bandit, and a sociopath, but generally if someone is gracious enough to let me live i'll do the same. unless they have something i really want..... but that's banditry for ya. to the OP, yeah you gotta be careful around stary. that hill usually always has someone on it. glad the other bandit saved your life, it's always great when a bandit will help dispatch a dirty sniper for you.
  6. i don't play nice, ever :P well, unless i'm a fresh spawn or all i ahve is a pistol. then i'm generally pretty friendly. is your lingor server hosted by vilayer? those are the only ones I tend to really hop on these days, since they share a hive.

2 bandit stories (one with a video!)

the satisfaction is not only knowing where you stand in the journey of another player, but also illustrating the saying "making out like a bandit". also, surviving zombies can really only entertain for so long (in my case, about 45 minutes)
  8. i love lingor for banditry. all the noobs broadcast their positions in side chat like crazy. good times to be had.

    unarmed massacre

Yeah man, if I saw that many people sporting melee weapons, I'd have to do the same. Although I'd probably arm up my axe, jump in the middle of them and start swinging. I bet you anything they'd hit each other more than they hit me.

    The Gravel Pit - Lingor

I can confirm the sexy good times that can be had on this server. We need a good healthy population so I have heads to pop and peeps to roll with! Come give it a go! No kicks for stupid shit like hiding bodies or any of that other stupid crap.

    Cya all, and bb DayZ

stick to servers below 20 people, you'll still find some action and avoid the hackers. or, play lingor. hackers are there, too, just not in as high volume.

Do bandits put people off the game?

bandits are part of what makes this game unique. the FFA pvp aspect adds the level of intensity and reward that no other game really can. without bandits, we'd just be trying to survive glitches and zombies, and that would make for one hell of a boring game. and for those that are turned off by this, there are games like l4d.

Music you listen to while playing.

i actually prefer the classical when i'm committing banditry. very soothing.
  14. DrunkPunk

Music you listen to while playing.

Music generally throws me off, and ruins my ability to hear others. However, it's a toss up between either fast, angry and loud punk rock (i bet you never would have figured), or classical music. only one of those is good for banditry. i'll let you guess which one. edit: the song in my signature, however, i listen to every time i boot the game up. perfect loading screen music. give it a listen, the words will make you lol
  15. in those instances, i prefer to let my rifle do the talking for me
  16. 6 isn't too much. I would go with less, but here is how I try to manage my loadout: Primary assault rifle (for mid-close range encounters), 6 mags Sniper rifle, whichever I can find (for long range/sneaking, when i say whichever i can find, I pretty much mean m24/DMR/as50, I find the camo to not be so ideal for longer range due to the lower zoom) in the backpack, with 6 mags 2 morphine, 2 backup bandages (i always keep 2 bandages readily available, so this would be an additional 2 in the backpack) 4-6 cooked meat, 3 water/soda And the rest, if I have any room left, I stock up with additional food/water. Sometimes more mags, if I think I'm going to be out for a while. It really depends. Also, one piece of advice I totally forgot to give. DEFINITELY give it some time before you go to loot any bodies. I can't count how many times I've just been caught up in the moment and started to loot a body, or started heading out in the field I killed someone in, just to find myself dead again. If it's in a field, scan constantly and give it some time after relocating to another good hiding spot. If it's in an urban area, hole yourself up and keep an eye on the door and pay close attention to the sounds around you. Once you are sure you're safe, loot away but keep your guard up. You are never safe in this game. Ever.
  17. ALWAYS use your free look to scan your horizons, never go out in the open without checking treelines, look for zombie spawns from far away (this indicates a player presence), keep cooked meat, 2 bandages and at least one (2 preferrably) morphine on you at all times, and never ask "friendly?" before opening fire.

    I am a horrible person.

This is exactly what I was going to post about. On my way from cherno to elektro, I passed by a player. Decided not to kill him, but after he got about 100m away, I decided I would do something better/worse. Shot to the knees, bandaged him up and started walking the other way. I felt bad about it, and decided to turn around to kill him, but he was already gone.

    AS50-TWS

Found one after a server reset, in a vehicle spawn. Seems to be back in the game, despite everyone claiming it's a hacked weapon.

Should we remove barbed wire in the next update

Hell no. The ability to fortify an area against players is great. One of the most entertaining experiences I've had in Elektro involved a fresh spawn and somebody strategically setting up wire everywhere. This kept anyone from going through the back alley routes and forced them to be in the open. What ensued was some pretty damn entertaining noob pvp. But things like this help build a better game, so I'd recommend leaving it in.

    You killed me.

I tried putting myself in your shoes, but I died so much I figured I might as well just KoS.

    alt f4 question

i'm curious how my buddy found one a couple weeks ago, not long after 1.7.2.5, in a vehicle that had freshly spawned after a server restart. i've seen a few other reports of people finding them, a couple who found them in freshly spawned vehicles, as well. also, it's entirely possible that tents have duped (both intentionally, and i'm sure unintentionally, too) the legitimate ones. assuming that everyone who has one is running a script is pretty ignorant. and i see peoples points here. you talk about doing wrong by using said weapons, yet you violate terms you agreed to when renting a server. it's like that old saying goes...
  23. DrunkPunk

    Bandits these days.....

You were with 3 other people. Did they die, too? Because if I had managed to take one out of 4 out, and all I had was a winchester, I would probably assume the kill was enough and ditch the gear for my own survival. Sometimes leaving that gear alone is the better option.

    Bandits Killing Bandits

Some people make really, really long walks to places like helo crash sites, the NWA, ect. to get their gear. I just walk along the ridgeline of Elektro or plow through Cherno, and murder people until I'm loaded up. Guess which one is faster. We may be of the same mindset, but that doesn't mean we're on the same team.

First gun you ever found in DayZ?

My first gun was a hatchet. That totally counts, since it seems to make bullet noises. But the real first gun that I found was probably a makarov. After that, I really can't remember.
