HFB, Vilayer, and DayZCommander need to knock this crap off..
DrunkPunk replied to ersan's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Bingo. You nailed it. This is why I didn't bother defending my position earlier to Mr. Knows Everything About Copyrights. As far as I can gather, the big moral issue is the fact that the vilayer download doesn't work with the regular one. Well, let me say something about that. The reason why I went to commander in the first place is because so many servers list themselves as using certain versions of the original DayZ mod (lingor, too), but are modified in such a way that the version they boast does not work. This may no longer be the case, or it may not be as widespread of an issue, but I know it's very present with Lingor. If all Vilayer is doing is ensuring CONSISTENCY, then what is the issue here? Both methods of obtaining the files still exist, therefore both versions of the map are usable. Yeah, they boast the other maps as a feature of their server hosting. Why would they do that, I wonder? Maybe the plethora of DayZ server hosters that will flat out deny you the ability to host said server? I know that's the only reason I ever found vilayer to begin with. Now maybe the issue is they didn't want anyone else to play Panthera in DayZ. If that's the case... well, too late now. I can find the download for the mod everywhere, so that's no longer an option. If I'm wrong on all accounts, then I guess I just don't understand the moral issues here. Is the original map maker expecting to get paid for this? Perhaps that's it. Who the hell knows. From what I've gathered, half the people whining in here don't even know. So lets stop trying to ruin the fun of the people actively enjoying and appreciating this mans creations (who would have otherwise never heard of the guy, much less cared about anything he ever created) and focus on a positive solution rather than be the reddit soap opera of the day. -

haha I actually know a great deal, only been in the business of dealing with them my entire life. you really know nothing about me or what my daily life consists of, so try keeping your misinformed comments to yourself. -

You know, I haven't had an easy/successful experience with Lingor, Panthera, or any other mod until you put them in commander. People cry and act like it's some personal attack on them when they really have nothing at stake other than possibly experiencing it. I honestly can't believe that some people are so selfish that they would be so concerned with who is taking credit over accessibility rather than be happy the masses can experience their creations. My biggest fear here is that you are going to pull support because a bunch of people are around here whining about this all. I would recommend getting in contact with the map creator, since I know you want to respect his wishes, and stop listening to all the whining BS that goes on here on these forums, regarding those who have no involvement other than they like to be a part of the internet drama. You've opened a huge door in helping the not-so-technically-inclined (as well as those who just run into stupid issues and enjoy a more streamlined experience, such as myself) in enjoying what this mod has to offer, and it would truly be a shame to see that progress halted over this nonsense. -

I can put any disclaimer in front of anything I want. Doesn't mean it has any legal traction. Since they aren't making money off of the map itself, but by hosting the server, there's nothing wrong with this. Not to mention it's all about assets owned by BI, who ultimately owns them all, anyway. It's a shame that people throwing little misinformed fits on a forum can cause so much damage to such a wonderfully thought out and designed tool. Oh, well, that's the internet for you. -
I agree with this. especially with a map like chernarus. there's little skill involved with running around with a sniper, if anything i'd say keep the cz and m14 and take out the rest. despite how rare such items might start out, they won't be after a short period of time when people start looting them off of each other. and yeah, nvgs and thermals are just crutches anyway. i'm willing to bet those that want them left in are the ones who can't play without said crutch.

Ax-Murder stories. (+ discussion)
DrunkPunk replied to Dr.Lyme's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
One day, after dying to a hacker, I ended up in Cherno. Here's how it went down. Pay particularly close attention to the conversation going on as soon as this video starts, as it is what clued me in and the irony.... oh, the irony.... and here's another one, more of an axe fail, but man this was good times regardless. I don't know why I left so much of us just driving with a dirtbike in. But I did. -
Oh man... I'd be lying if I said this has never happened to me. I just ended up sitting there, dumbfounded that I could be so careful in my stalking just to die like that. Beans to you, good sir, hopefully that eases the sting just a tad.

People who moan about bandits / the inability to survive
DrunkPunk replied to tomallbones@gmail.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I completely agree with you about this game and bandits. The ability to choose with minimal forced consequence is what makes the game, that and the random nature of the human element. I don't, however, agree with you about WarZ and the scam angle. First of all, RhinoCrunch is a money hungry retard. I remember the video he posted talking about how he's not in it to make money, but then spends 10 minutes explaining why he has the right to make money by asking his subscribers for donations for a new computer and charging a lot of money per head for his private server. So if anyone is running a scam, it's him. And he's pretty terrible at the game, too, so I guess he's more of an enigma. Ultimately, though, I don't think the war z looks like anything special, if anything I call it ArcadeZ. I'm still going to try it, though, because why not. Besides, I can't properly knock it until I try it, and who knows. Maybe it'll add something that is lacking in DayZ (although quite doubtful). -
You know, I never mind people who shoot on sight. But the ones that fall out friendly, talk you into trusting them against your better judgement, then pop you in the head when you have your back turned really drive me nuts.

What's wrong with "bandits" in this game?
DrunkPunk replied to yoshez's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Most people I've seen are bad enough at this game where sniping unarmed players is a real enough challenge for them. it's sad, i agree. i honestly think this game would benefit greatly from the removal of sniper rifles, maybe just keeping the M14 AIM and CZ. assault rifle gunplay is so much more intense, interesting, tactical and overall fun. -
Time to share things about ammo :D
DrunkPunk replied to Elite Skydaz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
this, except no DMR, just the M14. DMR is cool and all, but sniping bores the piss out of me. I'd much rather run around and get closer to my enemy, actually moving and using real tactics. -
NEW DayZ Fallujah Map Released!
DrunkPunk replied to avid_gamer's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
eh, i think, for an urban style map, that this map falls short. the vast majority of buildings you cannot enter, most of the ones you can have no loot, the buildings all look the same and are too spread out (which kills the urban feel to it), and there is no really coherent feeling behind the design. i hopped on a pretty populated server and spent about 30 minutes walking through what seemed like the same space to finally get bored of not finding anything and jumping back on lingor. it's a great thought and all, but needs a lot of work. -
Is this what you call a bandit?
DrunkPunk replied to Tonymaroni's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You know, I love Lingor Island. Not just because every encounter seems to happen in more than 4 spots on the map (quite unlike chernarus), and not just because it actually promotes real tactics other than hiding in a bush with a sniper rifle..... ..... But because people are so damn stupid on side channel. Constantly broadcasting their positions, trusting everybody who chimes in, with zero regard for the rest of the potential bandits on the server. I've paid close attention to side channel, and managed to spring some awesome ambushes against meeting parties (who occasionally blame the other person they were chatting with in side channel! an added victory!). And it's also great to see how some people react to a game like DayZ, where you already know the real threat is from the other players. Constant exclamations that generally fall along the lines of "WHY DID YOU SHOOT ME, I'M FRIENDLY!". Yeah buddy, you're friendly, that doesn't mean the guy behind the gun is... Also, yes. This is what I'd call a bandit, taking advantage of a wonderful opportunity. -
There's a plus side to being friendly..
DrunkPunk replied to Jaqlada's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Soooo.... what's the plus side, aside from not having a primary or DMR mags anymore? -
hah! that's dayz for ya! and this is why i love this game. i think, honestly, my favorite part of the game is how people react to what they already know is going to happen. that's what side channel was great for. seeing the moronic responses to being killed, "I WAS FRIENDLY YOU ASSHOLE!", that kinda stuff. yeah, you were friendly. that doesn't mean I or the person who shot you was.... Bottom line, when you die like this, you only have yourself to blame.
-
found one on a truck that was freshly spawned after a server reset, and i've seen a couple of other reports of the same thing (one was in the exact same location), so judge for yourself whether it's legit or not. either way, if you're playing chernarus, they are everywhere anyway so using it is really just keeping the playing field even. (this is part of why i stick to lingor these days)
-
m14 is my favorite gun in the game. yeah, it's very loud, close to the enfield, but what it does in noise it makes up for ten fold in accuracy and damage. learn to use this gun well, and you'll never need more than 1 shot at any target 400m or below.

1. Zombies 2. Get gun 3. Fire boolets 4. ????? 5. Beans
-
Hop on lingor, it'll add a bit more longevity to it. Much more dynamic, I've found. It still suffers from the lack of end game, but ultimately, the player driven experiences often times do.

Is KOS really that big of a problem?
DrunkPunk replied to colekern's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The fact that there are (at the time of posting this) 8 people who think this is a problem that needs addressing, tells me one thing and one thing alone.... You people are playing the wrong game. Quit trying to fuck with the only game we have left that doesn't cater to the carebears and go play one of the other countless games your kind has corrupted. -
I've provided moments of charity myself. One time, riding my bike west along the coast near balotta, I hear some gunshots. I toss the bike in some bushes, hop off and start creeping. See a guy taking shots at another, the guy receiving shots comes out on top. I sneak up behind him while he loots, and start yelling SUP BUDDY HOWS IT GOING as I pop him in the back with my svd. Grab my bike, continue riding west. See a fresh spawn running towards balotta, I start circling him, telling him whats up. Turns out he's the guy I just killed. Him being a good sport and all, I reward him with my svd and 6 mags, and send him on his way. Moral of the story is, even us cold blooded killers like to throw a bone out there every now and then. The way I see it, if you can take it all in stride, you're okay in my book.

Why is the M14 so overlooked?
DrunkPunk replied to Inception.'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Amen, OP. The M14 Aim is hands down my favorite weapon in the game. I'd take it over anything else. Super accurate, great at short-mid-long ranges (assuming you can aim and time it worth a damn), and 90% of the time I get the kill in a single shot. -
Makaroni Duel with a Desert Bandit
DrunkPunk replied to Holliday (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
realism! that's what they're going for, right? -
in all fairness, it's pretty clear you missed almost every single one of those shots. i'm guessing you had slugs armed?
-
this is why i don't play chernarus anymore. after playing lingor, i was quite surprised at how fun pvp with assault rifles can be.
