Suggestions for the DayZ standalone - thinking outside of the limitations of an Arma 2 mod.

A lot of really great suggestions here! Looking forward to see what they end up doing with the base building mechanics in this game. And lets not forget about the generator idea to power up things for your base, like flood lights or other external things that may or may not be included in the standalone such as lighthouses or buildings. -
This game is unfair and unforgiving, that is how it was intended.

Well you wouldnt be able to hide this vehicle haha, but i think its a good idea if there is an extraordinarily large map with a more complex rail system in place. This is even assuming there are going railways implemented in the standalone.

I really like the king of the hill idea for everlasting end-game. What the idfficult part would be is determining what the 'object' could be and how it's going to benefit players. -
Like what was said here, Arma 2 is a different product than dayz it was first initially a mod. this is like saying you deserve a PS4 because you just bought the PS3 for a different version of the game. It isn't going to happen. However, I believe Rocket and/or Bohemia INteractive are being generous to the early adopters by using the minecraft model.

To go along with that maybe a larger container not for drinking water but something similar to the size of jerry cans for water for your crops. This as well as fishing sounds like it'd be a great start to the self-sufficiency aspect of the game!

I believe we have satchel charges that can already do this? forgive me if im mistaken as I haven't used them yet but dont they just require to be hit to blow up?

I think tracking techniques in general would be great additions to this game, finding people trash etc. I think this would have to be something done in the standalone if they chose to implement something like this though!

maybe not necessarily classes per say but maybe more loot-able clothes and/or choose-able skins that would help the player decide in game what they want their role to be if any.

I'm sure they are looking into something, remember however that this game is just a mod for arma 2 which doesn't really require such measures taken. As much as it would be nice we may just have to wait until the standalone.

Possibly add the construction of crude bases.

Rocket has said previously that he really wants to add a base building mechanic to the game. He has stated that he wants to try an instanced underground base building metagame. The reason he didnt want to do above ground as it would clog up the map with unnecessary structures and would probably be abused such as the barbed wire currently is -

would love to see this kind of stuff implemented when/if rocket decides to add seasons. Whether it be in the alpha mod or the full standalone. -
I think attaching weapons to specific vehicles would be pretty cool, give a little more customization to the game. Also, Trailers.

I don't think its necessary. Slightly off topic: wouldn't different genders and ages of zombies be applicable to the game? Right now its fine to use the ones we have as a placeholder, however I know a few friends that would shit their pants if they had a 6yr old female zombie running at them. would break up the monotony of the zombies overall :) -
Rocket has mentioned several times that he would like to use the minecraft revenue model. I highly doubt that you would be able to trade in arma 2 for a new game thats like saying oh im done with nhl 2009 can i trade for nhl 2012 for 50-75% off please?

Ideally there is no reason why they cannot make multiple maps, like in arma. That being said, the maps currently are ARMA maps and not really DayZ maps. Chernarus works right now for what it is but something on a much grander scale ( think multiple islands the size of chernarus) would be more suitable for DayZ I think. It would reduce the issues with map borders and such as well as giving new dynamics to the game with islands that people would actually use maybe with some small ones that clans could try to fortify. -

Remember that the game is in alpha so they should be testing new ideas and concepts for the game. That being said I believe there are some things that could be fixed to make it easier for the players to test the game. -
Bag/pouch inception, Holster/Sling, Ammo+Mag & inventory management

Great ideas! Something like the sling idea where you could carry a second primary weapon as you carry your primary weapon now when you are using your handgun. With the pouches maybe have a limit of 2 or something and only have them compatible with specific bags. not too sure how easily this would be able to be implemented into the mod currently though. -
I was surprised to find out they didn't stack when I got my first one. That being said, they should stack even if its only up to 5 or something. Maybe theres a limitation on the arma side of things that is preventing this?

this game is unfair and forgiving, which is the way it is meant to be, while some things like thermal may be op they are in the game for a reason. Just because you have thermal or not does not make you all of a sudden invincible. It gives you an advantage just like most other things in the game.

I think performance would be the main issue here with the game. Also the fact that there isn't any cross platform interaction of games that I'm aware of , most especially on vita/pc. That being said it doesn't mean that there aren't other developers looking in to cash in on other platforms in this genre.

I believe that this would add to the authenticity of the mod overall. Currently though, there is no back story to how/why there are zombies throughout chernarus and how they became zombies.

Suggestion to stop bad players, hoppers, etc

I think a better alternative would just eliminate server hopping altogether by starting a new character on every server you go to, and saving your character information individually on each server. Although, I'm not sure how easily this is implement in the current iteration, being a mod for arma and all!
